SharePoint 2016 provides enhancements that allow organizations to continue using a hybrid model with services hosted both on-premises and in the cloud. It improves bidirectional synchronization between on-premises and cloud environments. The release also features resource ID based URLs that remain intact with content moves or renames, consolidated server roles called MinRoles for improved performance, and a Search Service Application that can index both on-premises and cloud content.
