Gokan Ozcifci: The Office 365 and Hybrid SharePoint Deployments bare essentialsSharePoint Saturday Warsaw
Office 365 is becoming more and more indispensable for small and lone companies. Moving to Office 365 comes with multiple key benefits and key features. Everybody’s focal points are on the benefits (Generate greater productivity with Office 365, Access from anywhere with Office 365, Robust security …) but the drawbacks are being omitted.

For enterprises that want to gradually move their existing on-premises SharePoint Server 2013 services to the cloud, SharePoint Server 2016 hybrid provides a staged migration path by extending high-impact SharePoint Server 2016 workload to SPO
This session focalizes on all interested parties who might be interested in the whole cloud process (migration, upgrade...). After this session you’ll be able to know exactly what the “cloud” represents with his benefits and drawbacks and should be able to lead any SharePoint project wherever it may be required.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. 26. 1. Hardcoded
2. The Service Application Load
Balancer now always prefers
local instance
3. Less Scenarios for Microsoft
to Test
4. Simplified Deployment
5. Simpler Farm scalability
1. Guidance
2. The Service Application Load Balancer
could have went to another server even
if local instance was running
3. Infinite number of scenarios.
4. Which server should run x service
already?
5. Need to manually start services every
time
30. 1. You need at least Four (4) Servers to have a MinRole
Deployment
2. You need to have all the Roles in the Farm before starting to
create service applications
3. If you don’t have 4 Servers, select Custom!
4. Office Web Apps > Office Online Server
31. Design this infrastructure in SharePoint 2016
1. Contoso 2. Fabrikam Trey Research Inc.
Contoso is a small
business that relies on
SharePoint for their day to
day activities. If
SharePoint goes down,
they lose money, so High
availability is a must. Due
to budget cuts, Contoso
can only afford a maximum
of 4 SharePoint Servers
and 2 SQL Servers.
Fabrikam is a medium
sized company that uses
SharePoint as a intranet
platform and light
document collaboration.
High availability is not
needed as no business
critical information is
stored on SharePoint.
Fabrikam can afford 4 SP
Servers and 1 SQL.
Trey Research is a Fortune
100 company that relies
on SharePoint to run their
business. Having 20 000
users, Trey Research is
looking for a stable farm
that is available 24/7/365.
The farm will also run Trey
Research’s Public website.
36. • Search for sensitive content in your existing
eDiscovery Center, keeping content in place and
enabling you to search in real time.

for Business and SharePoint Online!
Find that information before it’s too late!

SharePoint Search
DLP Policies and templates to automatically protect content

content is affected by a policy
Admin notifications when sensitive content is detected
DLP Queries and templates to simplify searches for sensitive information
searches

40. • Forefront Identity Manager is gone,
Microsoft Identity Manager is in!
• Not built in SharePoint anymore, fully
separate product.
New Way to Sync User Profiles
42. • SharePoint Profile Synchronization used old Forefront Identity
Manager (FIM) code from 2010
• Tough to set-up
• Not 100% integrated with SharePoint Best Practices
• Permissions!
• Users from different domains can’t be part of same
audience
• FIM 2010 doesn’t work with Windows Server 2016.
46. • Resource-based URLs now retain links when
documents are renamed or moved in SharePoint.
• No more broken links when someone changes a
document in another folder or renames the file!
**** Requires Office Online Server ***
No more bad links!
48. • Fast Site Collection Creation is a mechanism
designed to improve provision performance of Site
Collections through instrumenting a copy operation
using SPSite.Copy at the Content Database level.
• Instead of creating a blank site, activating all the
features to get the Site Collection you want,
SharePoint will copy the template at the Database
Level!
No more waiting for the Site Collection to create!
49. 1. Enable Fast-Site Creation on Template
Enable-SPWebTemplateForSiteMaster -Template “STS#0” -CompatibilityLevel 15
2. Create Site Master in Content Database
New-SPSiteMaster -ContentDatabase $DB -Template “STS#0”
3. Create your new Site Collection
New-SPSite http://portal.demo.local/sites/FastSite1 -ContentDatabase $DB -CompatibilityLevel 15 -
CreateFromSiteMaster -OwnerAlias demosp_admin
