2. Production techniques research
• Research potential production techniques you might want to use or
feel would be most appropriate – these can be related to camera,
editing, story, sound, etc
• You should look at a minimum of 3 related products in your research.
• You should collect clips/still images/how to guides/etc that might
help you. When watching scenes from films, etc you could also ask
potential target audience what they think.
• You may need to add extra slides!
• With each technique you should assess whether you can use it or
how you might employ or why you may want to disregard it
completely
• Always think about your investigations links to your intentions and
production!
3. Product 1
This product is a bit like the style ill be incorporating in my music video. I will be using a
technique in which I use a stabilized camera and have people cloned more that once and
also just standard stop motion. Ill try to keep the camera moving straight
4. Product 2
This style of video with the abstract colours and symmetrical shot is what ill be using as
inspiration when making the music video. It has many random scenes but it keeps up with the
abstract colours
5. Product 3
• This music video contains a lot of random shots that play with lighting
9. Genre and artist breakdown
• Think about the conventions of music video and which of these you
feel are the most appropriate for you video and why
• Think about the genre characteristics for your chosen artist – how do
you plan to employ these?
• Which techniques and styles do you think fans of your chosen genre
prefer? What should you expect to see in that type of music video?
• Use the following slides to show your ideas and explain these using
good illustrative examples – this is where your research and
explorations should start. Remember to consider the aspects we
looked at in class [and the academic things from Goodwin, etc].
11. Genre Characteristics
Much like “Alternative Rock” in the 90s and “College Rock” in the 80s, “Indie Rock”
typically describes a style of music that doesn’t quite fit a typical, traditional definition
of simply “Rock.” And, just like the two previous versions I mentioned, it started as a
label describing music that wasn’t quite fit for radio airplay, but rose in popularity to
the point that it’s actually become mainstream, or close to it. Indie rock is basically
that, now. You could go so far as to break down “indie rock” into a dozen sub-genres
now, as the term is used to describe many bands who don’t sound like each other.
12. Chosen approach/justification
My chosen approach to the video will have an 80s/90s vhs tape style. I
will be using a lot of inspiration from alternative and indie rock music
videos.
13. Experiments
Camera/Editing/Audio Experiments
This is for you to evidence the filming and editing tests we did.
Be prepared to add extra slides.
You can add more experiments as you do them as the project progresses.

15. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product?
• In my final product I will be using the old vhs style filter over the
whole video which will convey a retro feeling. Although in did not
edit the video I. I will also use a another tint which will make the
video much more grainy to add to the aesthetics of a vhs tape. Also I
will incorporate the tempo of the video as this makes for more of an
old fashioned/retro look.
17. Reflection
• What elements of your experiments will you include in your final
product? What about this process has been notable [positive and
negative]?
