In this shot you can see the main male character lead is guy Pearce who
plays a detective. He looks like he has something on his mind and is
determined to go through with it but is thinking it through. For example
his facial expressions show that he is looking into the distance day
dreaming. This demonstrates that he is the leading character that will be
taking most of the challenges.
Another example is the lighting is directed at his face in high key.
The camera shot is a mid-shot/ close up and the background and the
things around him have been blurred to draw the audience’s attention.
The sound of the audio is mysterious and eerie this is to create tension to
the audience.
He is well dressed of what you can see of him and looks in a blazer and
shirt.
In this shot the main character is going to ask a lot of questions and won’t
like the answers. For example his facial expressions look like he’s waiting
for someone to talk to him this can be seen form the way he has tilted his
head slightly. This demonstrates that the leading character will be closely
paid attention by the audience because he’s asking the important
questions.
Another example is the lighting is high key which draws attention to his
face.
The sound of the audio is quiet and you can hear people breathing in the
room this is done to create a sense of power that the main character has.
He is wearing the same thing that he was wearing in the other scene
which shows that he hasn’t gone through any big challenges yet because it
still looks intacted.
In conclusion I believe that there is no major main female
character role and the main roles are all played by male this
shows that male dominate the thriller genre.
