Part 2: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1fGmEa6WnY
The purpose of this short film is to spread awareness of what little kids go through while dealing with
abusive parents as well as raising up in foster care. It encourages people to treat kids right, also to be
useful in foster parent training and raising u foster parent. There are 5 main character in this short film.
The narrative of this short film is clearly expressed through the way it has been shot for example slow
motion shot complimenting with close up projects the emotions and the tension that the character is
going through. This is also the opening scene of the short film, close up shot of the main character which
is the girl. The audience can straight away realize who is the main character. The audience can also
understand the mood/feeling of the character through the background sound/music which was the
sound of waves on a beach in the opening scene which sets the mood of calmness and sadness.
The voice over throughout the short film was quite effective because it made it easier for people to
understand the narrative or the overall message as the text being narrated in the girl’s voice was direct.
The short film used Todorov's 5 stages to structure the film. The first equilibrium was the opening scene
which showed the situation the little girl was stuck in which is also the narrative. The 2 stage which is
called disequilibrium was represented by the girl’s parents who were in an abusive relationship which
disrupted the girl’s childhood. The 3 stage of acknowledgement was is the second half of the short film,
when the girl is taken away from her brother to the foster care. Stage 4 which is solving the disruption,
which was represented in the second part of the short film removed. When the girl was staying with the
foster mother and her little brother. However, it was shown at the new equilibrium
The character of the girl is one of the most important character in the short film as it represents a life of
a foster child which is also the narrative of the film. The other character who are related to the girl are
her parents which includes her abusive father, her mother and her little brother who also plays an
important character as the character of the girl is attached to her brother. The part 2 of removed in
based on her journey with her foster parent and surviving without her little brother.
The film is linear as it has a literal meaning and a straightforward message. It also has close ending as the
film includes her future self. It also suggested how foster parenting can help a child grow up and become
something in future.
2. Short film analysis - RWD FWD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMJwo0_UNys&t=612s
This short film is about friendship between two people which gets disturbed and leads to unwanted
events. The whole idea of this short film is to show that viewers that rewinding back into the past and
releasing what you did can help you move forward. There are 5 characters in this short film, 2 of them
are main character which are the two young boys who got into a flight because of the third character
which is the girl and the other 2 characters are trying to help those boys solve their problem.
This film used three act structure, the opening scene straight away exposed the viewers to a quick flash
back of the inciting incident and made the viewers feel tensed already. The flash backs used in this film
helped show the viewers different point of views of both characters and how they are feeling about the
situation between them two. The opening scene itself summarized that there is a conflict between the
characters. The second scene showed the plot point 1 of the film where the conflict begins. The flash
forward to when they are sitting together with the two side characters is the pinch 1 of act 2. It takes
the viewers back to the overall situation. The act 3, which is the climax of this film was when the actual
conflict is shown between them followed by the results of it. This then leads to the resolution, which is
the last part of act 3, where the conflicts are over, and it's been resolved.
The themes used in short film are friendship, loyalty, and betrayal. These are all part of the drama genre.
It also has closed ending the it conflict is resolved between the two characters at the end of the film.
Furthermore, this short film was nonlinear as it included flashbacks and flash forwards. It also had
restricted narrative which mean the audience knew the same information as the character.
The camera work made this more effective, for example the close up of each character in their point of
view of flashback showed the characters emotions as well as set the mood for the viewers. The editing
complemented the camera work making it look even more effect, for example the slow-motion effect
used in the opening scene which was also supported by the distorted sound in the background.
3. Short film analysis – Prego
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zsgBkOaxwcE
This short film is about a one-night stand that leads to pregnancy. There only two characters in it, a boy
and a girl. The character of the boy is presented as dumb and immature and the character of the girl is
presented as scared and annoyed. This short film is part of comedy genre.
The opening scene in this film is a close up of the two characters which straight away suggests that the
main character are those two actors. It is linear as it has beginning middle and end. The ending is a close
up ending as the guy leaves the girl alone.
The purpose of this film is to entertain the viewers as it’s a comedy short film. This is projected by using
different camera shots and editing which shows individual characters point of view. For example, when
the girl tells the boy she’s pregnant and the scene cuts to his perspective towards it through a scene of
him dressed as a baby which also showed the immature funny personality of the character.
They film has mainly used medium shots and close up shots throughout the film which means the focus
was on the characters expression the whole time which made the viewers feel what they were feeling
for example when it’s a close up shot of the girl while she cries or when she is annoyed. These shots
contrasted with the close-up shots of the other character as he had confused funny look the whole time
which made him look dumb but seemed funny to the audience.
There was only one part were music was used which was quite effective however for the rest of it there
was only ambience sound which made the film look natural. Furtheremore the short film was restricted.
