PROS AND CONS Trusted computing (Software filters): protects your computer from malicious spywares Eavesdropping on telephones and emails: catch potential criminals “Trusted computing”: the person who decides which software is safe for you is not you (shouldn’t you have a right to do that?) Wiretapping: allows monitors to access private information that you don’t want to share PROS CONS

9. Discussion Questions Where should the “line” be drawn between safety and privacy? Put yourself in the shoes of someone who has to make the decision between security vs. privacy…if you were at the airport, do you think it is right for the airport staff to scan each passenger, which x-rays through your clothes (so they can pretty see you naked), to search for any weapons or dangerous objects?

10. Discussion Questions Put yourself in the shoes of an employer, would you want surveillance cameras around the office to make sure people are doing their job? Now, put yourself in the shoes of an employee, would you want a surveillance camera in the offices which can see everything you’re doing? Where do you draw the line between security vs. privacy?
