1984 Essay Questions
1. 1984 Essay Questions
Crafting an essay on the topic "1984 Essay Questions" poses its own set of challenges, primarily
due to the complex and multifaceted nature of George Orwell's dystopian novel "1984." The
depth of the themes, intricate plot layers, and Orwell's deliberate use of language demand a keen
understanding and analytical prowess from the writer.
One of the significant difficulties lies in navigating the nuanced political and social commentary
embedded in the novel. Addressing questions related to the manipulation of information,
surveillance, and the suppression of individuality requires a comprehensive grasp of Orwell's
vision and an ability to draw connections to contemporary issues.
Moreover, constructing a compelling thesis and organizing the essay coherently can be a
formidable task. The intricate web of ideas in "1984" demands a careful balance between
exploring specific essay questions and maintaining an overarching analysis of the novel's broader
themes.
Analyzing the characters, such as Winston Smith and O'Brien, and their symbolic significance
requires a deep dive into the subtleties of Orwell's narrative. Interpreting their motivations,
actions, and relationships necessitates an acute literary sensitivity and an understanding of the
historical and political context that influenced Orwell's work.
Furthermore, incorporating relevant quotes and textual evidence to support arguments adds an
additional layer of complexity. Selecting the most pertinent passages to strengthen the essay's
points while avoiding excessive quoting requires a meticulous approach.
In conclusion, crafting an essay on "1984 Essay Questions" demands more than just summarizing
the plot. It requires a profound engagement with the novel's themes, characters, and the socio-
political commentary Orwell intended. Successfully navigating these challenges leads to a rich
and insightful essay that goes beyond surface-level analysis.
For those seeking assistance in tackling such essays or exploring similar literary analyses, various
resources are available, including writing services likeHelpWriting.net, which can provide

2. Involuntary Change Definition
How do you define change? Change is when something goes from normal to
abnormal, but eventually the abnormal becomes normal again once you get used to
it. For example, just as you get into the swing of your classes they are over, or when
you actually start to like Baker food and then they change the recipes. Everyday
something changes in your life, sometimes these changes are minimal, but in some
way they impact you.
What do you know about change? I know that many people struggle with change,
including me. Change often comes without a warning and catches you off guard, but
it is not always a bad thing. Change can make things exciting and test your limits.
Describe a situation in your life where change was challenging. Why? A... Show

If I make the decision to do something I tend to find that I deal with it better than if
the change was forced upon me. It s nice to be in control of the change you are
making.
In general, what are your personal default patterns when you are confronted with
involuntary change? Why do you believe this is so? An involuntary change is when
I have no control over what is changing. I am a huge worrier and as soon as
something happens, I think of all the things that could go wrong. I get frustrated and
then I cry and then eventually I cope. There is no way to get through life without
change so I just try to embrace it.
In your opinion, what characteristics, qualities, and skills does a person need to
lead change? To make a change in this world you need to be dedicated. It is so easy
to quit when things get tough, but if you stick it out it will be worth it. For
example, I did the 21 Day Fix Extreme (the workout portion) over the summer and
the women who leads the workout would always say, It s not gonna be easy, but it
will be worth it! She was right. It was definitely not easy, but in the end I felt like I
was in better shape. I was ready to quit on day 2, but I didn t and I feel accomplished

6. America s Love Of Americans Towards Dogs
One of the most amazing things in the United States is the love of Americans
towards dogs. According to the 2015 2016 APPA Survey, there were 54.5 million
households that own at least one dog, and the estimated number of pet dogs was
77.8 million. Of all pet owners, 66.7% consider their dog to be a family member;
whereas, the rest consider their dogto be their petor companion. Raising a dog seems
to be an easy task, but is it indeed? Although humans love their dogs, many end up
relinquishing them because they develop various behavior issues. According to the
ASPCA, every year approximatively three million dogs enter into the animal shelters
across the United States, and about half of them are surrendered by their own owners,
of which 65%... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A pack will be formed by one or two leaders (the alpha), and the rest of the pack, the
followers (Hennie 4.). It is important for dog owners to be aware of this fact because
once they bring a dog in the family, in its eyes that family becomes its pack, and if no
one assumes the alpha position or gives direction, the dog will be forced to take the
leadership role because it is mandatory for a pack to have a leader.
There are many cases where people are raising their dogs as their children, giving
lots of affection and spoiling them. Nowadays dogs have birthday parties, are
being dressed up, or even inherit money after their owner s death. Is it a bad idea
to love a dog as much as a family member? Definitely no! Is it a bad idea for people
to humanize their furry companions? Definitely yes! Dogs can be part of the
family, but they will never be humans. No matter how much people love their pets,
they should not forget about the fact that in the end they are animals, the dog
species, and they are totally different than humans. A dog can have a great lifestyle,
but most of the time its true needs are not met, and not because the owners do not
want to, but because they often do not know what their pet s needs are. Providing
food and shelter and giving lots of affection are far from enough for a dog in order to
have its needs fulfilled.
In one of his books, Cesar`s Way, Cesar Millan, a well known dog behaviorist, writes
about a formula that he
7. The Pollution Of Fossil Fuels
The world is currently run on decayed plants and animals that have been
transformed into crude oil, coal, and natural gas, by exposure to heat and pressure
over millions of years. These materials are known today as fossil fuels, and they
produce 84% of all energy created in the United States (Suplee 2014). Although
these sources are extensively used, they have a limited supply, eventually they will
run out. Even with new extraction methods such as fracking and offshore drilling
the deposits of fossil fuels in the world will diminish because of the extreme rate at
which they are being used. There is much speculation as to when the Earth will be
sucked dry, but whether it s 10 years from now or 1000, the threat still looms.
However, there is a much greater problem fossil fuels pose that already affects
everyone today. The burning of crude oil, coal, and natural gas to create energy
cause pollution that affects the atmosphere, the water, and the health of everyone.
The smog that comes from the smokestacks at power plants fills the air with more
carbon dioxide than nature can balance out. This excess carbon dioxide interferes
with the atmosphere and pokes holes in the ozone which is the major cause of
global warming. Over the next 100 years it is likely the global temperature will rise
by 11 degrees (Suplee 2014). Not only are temperatures rising but the emissions are
mixing with rainwater creating acid rain. This mixture of water and toxins pollutes
water which harms trees,

Emile Durkheim defined suicide as any death which is the immediate or eventual
result of a positive or negative act accomplished by the victim himself (Emile
Durkheim s Four Types of Suicide, 2014). Emile Durkheim began his studies on
suicide in 1897. He thought that economic, religious, and military factors would
greatly influence his findings. After he concluded his study he found that there were
four different types of suicide. The first type of suicide is Egoistic suicide. This type
of suicide occurs when the degree of social interaction a person has is low. ... Show

An example of this could be when the market crashes or spikes (Emile Durkheim s
Four Types of Suicide, 2014). The last type of suicide is Fatalistic suicide. People
generally commit this type of suicide are people whose lives are kept under tight
regulation. These people often live their lives under extreme rules. These types of
people are left feeling like they have no sense of self (Emile Durkheim s Four Types
of Suicide, 2014) .
Every year there are at least 20,000 firearm suicides in the United States. That s
more than 50 every single day. That s more than half of all suicides and two thirds
of firearm deaths. Research has shown that guns in the home make suicide three
times more likely. There are many reasons why the presence of a firearm in the
home can t be a risk factor for suicide. Having a firearm in the house provides
impulsivity for suicide at times. Also, firms are also so much more lethal than any
other method. Most people who survived a suicide attempt do not go on to die by
suicide, but only one in 10 people who attempt suicide by gun get that second chance
(Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence).
Typically, firearms are divided into two categories, there are handguns and long
guns. Handguns are firearms such as pistols that are designed to be held and fired
with one hand. The most common types of handguns are single shot handguns,
revolvers, and semiautomatics (Saferstein, 2016, p. 192 193). All handguns can be
classified as either single action or

Jane Eyre was published during a time when the treatment of females was not so

11. The Soviet Threat, As Experienced By The United States...
Section I: Identification and Evaluation of Sources
This investigation will explore the question: To what extent was propaganda used to
show the Soviet threat, as experienced by the United States, during the Red Scare
of the Cold War? The scope of this investigation will be 1947 1957, to allow for
analysis of the era of McCarthyism, as well as the evolution of Anti Communism in
American society.
The origin of the first source being evaluated is the book, Total Cold War
: Eisenhower
s Secret Propaganda Battle at Home and Abroad, which was written by Kenneth
Osgood and published in Lawrence, Kansas in 2006. The purpose of this source was
to chronicle the secret psychological warfare programs that the United States

The author presented information on propagandist strategies and how, theoretically,
to psychologically affect an audience, but never presented information on the actual
effect. Another limitation of this source was that the chapter titles were not allusive
to the content of the chapter, they were very vague.
The origin of the second source being evaluated is an essay called The Role of the
Media during the Cold War which was written by Alexander Stafford at Queen s
University of Belfast and published on October 16, 2013. The purpose of this source
was to explain the role of the media during the Cold War and how it produced and
maintained cultural antagonism. The content of this source included information on
the development, distribution, and importance of political propaganda. This source
was organized in a way where claims were presented, supported by facts, and then
validated. A value of this source is that the content included a lot of information on
the public opinion of the Cold War. This allowed for further expansion within the
research question of this investigation. Another value of this source was that the
sources used hold validity, which further benefits this investigation. A limitation of
this source is that the content omitted information on all forms of media, such as film
and print. The author stated these mediums, but did not expand upon their effect or

When you sleep if you sleep you sleep by candlelight.
You hate the smell of every candle you ve ever lit. It can be the typical clean cotton

But soon after, you remember any belief in a kind man in the clouds was left behind
when you saw the horrors of war.
Other times, the dreams lull you into a false sense of security, blurring the lines
between what is, what was, and what never was. You can start somewhere
mundane, somewhere safe. You re leaning on a counter in your kitchen with a cup
of coffee, looking down at a newspaper, while your dog nudges its nose against
your exposed calf. But, when you look down, there is no dog, nor are there kitchen
floor tiles. There s mud and matted grass, and a man s bloodied hand touches your
trouser, his lifeless eyes gazing blankly up at you. The kitchen cabinets and walls
melt away to a grey sky and a dozen familiar faces.
Then, there s the worst of all they re like memories, see, but they ve been twisted.
Something in the very depths of your mind, your soul, your bones, leeches onto your
memories. You miss the target, fail the mission, don t hear the warning as you step
on a landmine, don t shout the warning as someone else does the same, you don t

13. Pros And Cons Of Spaying And Neutering Animals
There is research to argue both positive and negative consequences of spaying or
neutering animals. This paper will overview both sides indicating that there are
several benefits of this procedure. Making the decision to spay or neuter a pet can
be a touchy subject for some pet owners and a hard decision to make. Spaying a pet
means to sterilize a female animal by removing the ovaries. Neutering(also referred to
as castration) means to remove the genitalia of a male or female pet but is mainly
used for males. Some may also refer to the procedure as getting the animal fixed but
this terminology holds the same meaning. An estimated 5 to 8 million animals are
euthanized in the United States every year. Many organizations try to reduce these
numbers by opening Spaying and Neutering clinics to prevent the increase in pet
populations. Some against castration say that spaying and... Show more content on

It was not uncommon to see advertisements for free kittens and puppies to a good
home. People did not put the same value on animals then as it is done today. Many
more households today have cats and dogs that are kept inside and treated like a
family member (Jordan). A typical behavior one might observe with a cat or dogis
the desire to roam the environment. Animals like to explore surroundings for many
reasons (Hopkins, Schubert, and Hart 9). The pet might be wanting to mark territory
by urinating on grass, trees, and fire hydrants. Instinctively, animals want to breed.
Sexual hormones increase motivation to want to roam and find other animals to
breed with during or after the natural cycle. Unfortunately, a roaming animal might
roam into a person that will hurt the animal or into traffic where the chances of
being hit by a car is increased. Spaying and neutering animals decreases the desire to
roam away from their home by decreasing sex hormones
14. Domestic Violence As A Victim Of Domestic Abuse
Introduction Although we lost Ellen Pence, a woman who changed how domestic
violence is addressed, in 2012, there are many lives that are being saved to this day
because of her work. Ellen Pence found her calling in 1977 when she began working
for the Minneapolis Housing Authority that helped individuals relocate with housing
complications (StarTribune, 2010). It was then that she immersed herself through
domestic violencecases and set the standard for addressing these cases. Ellen Pence is
especially known for establishing the Duluth Program, a program that address
batterers in the court systems, and Praxis Training, which are training on addressing
domestic violencefor law enforcement, advocates, community agencies, and
institutions. Pence s 35 years of service change the way domestic violence cases
were handled, educated key players in domestic violence cases, and showed the
world what it was like to be a victim of domestic abuse. Without her efforts, many
individuals in power addressing these cases would be lost and those to who are
victims would not be understood as they are today.
Duluth Program
Pence established the Duluth program at the Domestic Abuse Intervention Project
(DAIP) in Duluth, Minnesota. The Duluth model can be described as a men s re
education curriculum and an intervention model that addresses women s safety by
modifying and coordinating the procedures, practices, and discernments of the
involved parties of domestic violence cases, such
15. Venus De Milo Vs. The Laocoon
The Venus de Milo and The Laocoon are both legendary works of art. Both of these
works employ the Hellenistic style, but there is so much contrast in the design of
the forms, detailing, expression and many other characteristics. Hegel s Absolute
Idea is a goal for art. This goal is to be as Godly as possible. It is both the plan and
realization throughout the history of art. Hegel pictures this in an analogy to the
humansoul and body; the soul is the concept and the body is the physical form.
(Hatt 25). In recognition to the Absolute Idea of Hegel, Venus de Milo more closely
represents the idea of divinity over The Laocoon.

2. The Venus de Milo represents the Absolute Idea more successfully than the
Laocoon. This is due in large part to the physical appearance of the works, The
Laocoon being more of a distraction to the divine, while Aphrodite does not hinder
the viewer from the divine. The subject matter also plays a part in this distraction.
The Laocoon with a large backstory about the Trojans and the Greek gods wrath.
The Venus de Milo does not have that story (at least not commonly known to
common era). She really does have almost no distractions to remove the divine,
other than controversy in discovery, the work was originally thought to be created
in the Classical Era, however the pose of the figure led more to the Hellenistic
period. Even with that story there is very little that takes away from the work and the
divinity of the absolute
16. Violence And Resistance Chapter 8 Summary
Chapter 8 Violence and Resistance was about the need of addressing violence
against women in the rise of feminism. The chapter goes into details about how
rape is a form of social control that has often been used on a large scale as a weapon
of war, in particular in contexts of ethnic cleansing. (pg. 338) In other words, rapehas
been a big issue, especially in U.S colleges first year female students. Then in
section 8.2 Scope of the Problem , gives better details an example of a common
question about sexual assault on college campus towards victims and assailant if
they re acquainted. Some analysis I got from this section is how victims, (mostly
women) are not heard or believed which can be the number one reason why rape

This is important to know because rape victims not given the support and attention
needed when they report an assault will only increase the amount of rape on
campus. Section 8.2 was also very important because they give the experience to
make the text more believable about victims on campus sexual assault. Providing
this information can inform people the different type of victims of rape and the
assailants and how each rape case can be similar or different. Some new concepts I
learned was mostly vocabulary about this topic. For example, I learned what
acquaintance rape consensual, and sodomize means. The main thing I learned and
noticed was that there are different types of campus sexual assault and rape. I always
thought there was only one type of rape that can happen on campus but apparently,
there isn t. The one that really stood out to me was acquaintance rape because it
seems that one to be the biggest issue. An acquaintance can mean two people that are
familiar with each other, which men tend to thinks it enough reason to take advantage
of someone when in reality, it
17. What Is The Value Of Life
Michel de Montaigne explained that the value of life lies not in the length of days,
but in the use we make of them. This quote sums up many peoples exact feelings
about the value of living, what it means, and who really appreciates it. Our society
has become obsessed with putting a monetary worth on everything we do, even the
most precious of things. Life is one of the few things that you cannot put any price
on, despite what others might believe. Memories and what they mean to those who
have made them are priceless, so why should a legal character determine what the
value of our lives have been, when all it sees is the way that we have died, rather
than the worth of what we have lived. Hamlet, Roger Ebert, and Kenneth Feinberg all
felt differently about their thoughts on life, but in the end, a life is a life, and that is
something all people can agree on. Roger Ebert was a man whose faith wavered
from the beginning to the end of his life, he stated that he no longer believed in God
at the time of his death, and it seems that those who are not god fearing do not
worry themselves about death as much as someone who is religious. Personally I
have always felt that atheists value life more than religious people; those who are
religious figure that they can fix whatever they have ruined in their current life, in
the afterlife when they see their God, which is not exactly an ideal way to live.
Typically, when plagued with diseases like AIDS, or Cancer, the victims realize

21. The Controversy Of Transgenic Crops
Ever since the discovery of DNA, farmers have selectively bred plants in order to
bring out desirable traits such a large yield or longevity. As time passed on new
discoveries were made about DNA and scientist eventually became able to directly
insert genes into a plant cell, permanently changing the world of agriculture.
Genetically modified agriculture, or transgenic crops, are crops that have had their
DNA altered via genetic engineering. Transgenic crops are often the subject of
skepticism from wealthy countries such as America. In these countries the citizens
are concerned transgenic crops may have a negative impact on their health and the
environment. As a result transgenic crops, or any other genetically modified organism
, are the subject of controversy. On one side of the debate there are the supporters
who see the potential of genetic engineering and the other side there are people who
fear modifying the DNA of any living creature is going too far. Although some
wealthy nations refuse to grow or consume transgenic crops many developing nations
can benefit from this technology. This essay is not meant to argue the moral
problems or speculations associated with transgenic crops, it is intended to argue the
potential benefits of transgenic crops in developing nations where there is a scarcity
of quality food. In developing countries, transgenic crops can positively affect the
health of citizens, the economy, and the environment of these nations. When

function of filmsoundthat was used was loudness. In the movie, the way the
characters spoke to one another when a major event occurred. This can be shown in
the movie when the general is commanding the soldiers to attack the iron giant

ENTREPRENEURIAL DIFFICULTIES IN BANGLADESH
ABSTRACT
Bangladesh is a developing nation with a lot of constraints and difficulties for
entrepreneurs. One of the primary difficulties that entrepreneurs face is raising
capital. Finding out what types of difficulties entrepreneurs face in raising capital, and
how the government and private sector can help to eliminate them, is the subject of
this report. This report is an attempt to critically evaluate and review the current
problems of acquiring for entrepreneurs. The government itself has not shown ...

A venture firm could help facilitate that, it could act as an intermediary for both the
entrepreneur and the investors.
Another absence is that of private equity firms in Bangladesh. A private equity firm
an investment manager that makes investments in the private equity of operating
companies through a variety of loosely affiliated investment strategies including
leveraged buyout, venture capital, and growth capital. This firm only invests in
private firms by pooling resources in return for management fees and share in profits.
Then we do not have any angel investors, which may be hoping for too much in this
nation. Angel investors invest in a business in return for controlling ownership or
convertible loan, they usually keep themselves anonymous to the entrepreneur. They
are usually retired entrepreneurs or executives. Their purpose is never completely
monetary, they like to keep themselves occupied in the current business scene, or
guide new entrepreneurs or apply their experience in the new businesses. One may
put it in the Self Actualization part of Maslow s Hierarchy theory.
There are no government loan programs to support these entrepreneurial startups. If
any organization could afford to take on high risk ventures then it is the government.
But sadly the government takes no such initiative.
The Solutions
The first actor that needs to take actions is the government. It needs to make policies
and provide opportunities. One policy it can make is that it

Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in In Country by Bobbi Ann Mason
Many Vietnam veterans suffer from posttraumatic stress disorder. Typically, such
individuals have flashbacks, dreams, and are constantly haunted by their war
memories. The mental stress can lead to further complications, even physically
injuring or paralyzing the human body. The book In Country by Bobbi Ann Mason
portrays a prime example of such a victim. The difference? The subject is a
seventeen year old girl in the early nineteen eighties who never saw the war.

26. The Marriage Ceremony Of India Essay
Just imagine the person you will spend the rest of your life with waiting for you at
the altar. Once you wed, life together begins. The phrase, Welcome to the rest of
your life , is often heard when a couple becomes engaged. Marriage is defined as the
union between two individuals that make a permanent and exclusive commitment to
each other (Kavya, CN and Pavan Kumar 531). Essentially, when to people get
married their hearts and mind unify as well. Historically, marriagewas a union with no
ceremony. The Bible mentions several couples being married but does not mention
any ceremony. The actual union is more important than having an enormous
celebration. However, as time went on, many cultures formed traditions that are part
of the marriage ceremony. India is one of the most populated countries in the world
and one of the oldest. Indian marriage celebrates Dharma. Dharma is essential
guidelines in order to live a fulfilling life and afterlife. The Southern Hindu wedding
lay emphasis on three essential values: happiness, harmony, and growth (Knott 10).
Each step of the marriage process outlines each value.
DATING, MATCH MAKING, AND LOVE COURTSHIP In Hinduism marriage is
considered the most sacred commitment. This is a commitment of the souls and
minds, not just physical bodies. Many Hindus enlist the help of someone called a
match maker. The match maker observes and examines all single individuals in the
village. Typically, the family sits down with the match maker and

Psychological Contract Breach (PCB) Psychological contract breach is the cognitive
perception that an employee has not received everything that was promised formally
or informally by the organization (Morrison Robinson, 1997). Psychological contract
breach is perceptual and subjective in nature (Rousseau, 1989). That is, an employee
may determine that contract breach has occurred even in the absence of a real breach
(Morrison Robinson, 1997). An employee s belief that a contract breach has occurred
may influence attitudes, behaviours and performances, even though the belief may
not be justifiable or the breach may never have happened (Robinson, 1996).
Perceptions of psychological contract breach are quite common. Conway and Briner

The Last Supper The Last Supper was painted by da Vinci between 1495 and 1498.
It is 15 feet wide by 29 feet long and it is not in a museum, it is in a church. This
painting depicts the last supper that was celebrated by Jesus and his disciples, as
told in the Gospel of John, and the reactions given by each disciple when Jesusreveals
to them that one of them would betray him. Starting from the left and moving to right
the each individual figure is as follows:
Furthest to the left is Bartholomew. Next to him is James, son of Alphaeus, and
Andrew. These three men appear to be surprised. Next to Andrew is Judas Iscariot,
Peter and John who formed the next group of three. Judas is holding a small bag in
his right hand which could mean two things; either as a symbol of silver that was
given to him as a payment for betraying Jesus, or could be a reference of him as the
treasurer of the twelve disciples. Peter, who is next to Judas, looks angry and he is
holding a knife and this could in a reference where Jesus was arrested and he cut off
one of the guard s ears, which was later restored by Jesus. And then there is the

employees has been tense because of substantial layoffs, bankruptcy proof pension

In 1988, the Basel I was published by the BCBS. It is a new method to the measure
the capital and also it focused on the credit risk and appropriate risk weighting of
assets (International convergence of capital measurement and capital standards,
1988). Under the concept of the risk weighted asset, the regulators can include the
riskiness of the bank s activities into the calculations of the capital adequacy (Lange,
Saunders Millon Cornett, 2015).
The core requirement of the Basel I were 2 capital ratios: a minimum 4% for the

In Basel II, it improved the measurement of the risk weighted assets. It includes the
market risk, the operational issues and the risks caused by the emergencies like the

is more detailed than the Basel I. In the Basel II, it creates a new frame, the Three

Santiago who, through a dream found where his treasure would lay. The author of
the book Paulo Coelho, was born in Brazil, and has written sixteen books including
The Alchemist, and has sold over one hundred and forty million books worldwide.
What attracted me to the novelwas how there was some supernatural aspects
throughout the book. The supernatural aspects made the book more enjoyable to
read, because it was different than the typical self discovery novel, there was
something unique about it. I enjoyed the book, and wanted to continue, because I
was curious to see what other events would occur throughout his journey, and what
Santiago would find. The novel was very empowering, it was motivating for the
audience to read, because of the risks Santiago takes on his journey. The author did
immensely well on showing both aspects of different peoples lives, one that took a
chance, and the other that conformed to society, and didn t follow their dreams. This
motivated the audience, because they didn t wantto be like the Crystal Merchant, they
wanted to be like Santiago. In the novel there are four important characters that
Santiago met through his voyage to the Pyramids. Most of the characters are flat and
static in the story, because they never grew as characters. The people that Santiago
meets along the way are either wise, so they have no development in the story, or

Abstract
Electrochemical behavior and hydrogen evolution reaction of mild steel in sulfuric
acid solutions, containing different concentrations of gamma Aminobutyric acid
(GABA) as a green inhibitor have been investigated. The electrochemical techniques
included Tafel polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The
rate of both the corrosion reaction and the hydrogen evolution affected significantly
by changing GABA concentrations. Polarization results showed that GABA is a
mixed type inhibitor with good inhibition efficiency. Increasing the temperature led to
an increase in the hydrogen evolution rate and a decrease in the total surface
resistance value (RT) or the relative film thickness (1/CT) of the steel. Quantum
calculation including EHOMO, ELUMO, the energy gap (?E) and the fraction of
transferred electrons (?N) demonstrated the inhibition ability of GABA. The results
were confirmed by surface examination using scanning electron microscopy.
Adsorption of GABA on the steel surface fitted the Langmuir isotherm.

Abstract
Hepcidin levels peak after exercise in athletes. This is attributable to many
inflammatory responses following interleukin 6 elevation. This event can affect iron
levels and an onset of anemia. Athletes should ensure that they consume enough
dietary iron for hepcidin levels to peak, but not to set them to undergo anemia. Most
testing was used to predict VO2 max and hepcidin levels post exercise. Hepcidin
levels peak after aerobic exercise as a protective mechanism to prevent iron toxicity,
with this in mind it is important to maintain normal iron levels to have the ability to
exercise to an individual s greatest genetic potential.

Key words: iron, hepcidin, exercise induced changes, interleukin 6, anemia, VO2 max
Introduction
Hepcidin levels increase as a protective mechanism as iron levels become higher than
normal after aerobic exercise. As a result athletes should be careful to consume and
retain sufficient iron to prevent their bodies to become iron deficient. Athletes spend
many hours training and performing sports, as a result their bodies sweat, and
undergo hemolysis of erythrocytes. This great stress situation affects their potential
for using or maintaining iron levels at their normal

educators were taught during their educational career. These devices are going to
require a completely new approach to teaching and thinking about the new skills that
are needed to succeed today.

41. Essay On Cuban Rhapsody
From its central roots in Africa all the way to an island called Cuba in the middle of
the Northern Atlantic Ocean, Cuban music has traveled a long way. The vessels that
traversed this mighty ocean carried Slaves from Western Africa who held on to songs
that reminded them of home and their families when they entered this new land. Even
though they carried very little, the African slaves brought over their culture and
practices to Cuba which integrated together and soon a multi racial population came
forth and Afro Cuban musicwas a product of this integration. (Bruce, 2018) This
music contained nostalgic traditions of previous generations such as dancing,
performing, and enjoying the music as a group which developed an atmosphere of
Afro Cuban culture and eventually evolved and flourished... Show more content on

The way the musicians performed the Afro Cuban style with expertise and sheer
talent introduced a new favourite genre of music in which performance is not the
main focus. Instead, having fun and enjoying the music is the main aspect in what
makes this style so unique and sets it apart from all the other genres. Afro cuban
music has come a long way since the African slaves introduced it to Cuba during the
Atlantic crossing, it expanded and flourished in Latin America and became the
various types of latin styles that we got to enjoy during the Cuban Rhapsody
performance. Jane lead the musicians with elegance while playing the saxophone, and
likewise DГЎnae lead parts of the performance with charisma. She motivated me to
pursue a Afro Cuban style of piano playing which consists of montuno style and lots
of improvisation. I hope to go to similar concerts in the future due to the fact that I
have grown accustomed to enjoy the latin culture and all that it consists of, the
history, the music, and the culture. All combined to create a distinctive atmosphere
that really makes you want to

43. The End Of The Medieval Period Essay
There are many factors that led to the end of the medieval period and brought about
the emergence of the Renaissance period, otherwise known as, the age of rebirth.
Some of these factors would have a devastating impact on Europe, which we can
still see to this very day. During the Medieval period, the feudal aristocracy and the
Catholic Church emerged as the dominant political forces and were instrumental in
imposing social and economic order on the people. Peasants were organized within
the manorial system as serfs; the guild system dominated economic life and imposed
its own wage, price, and production controls in the system. In religious life, the
church reached its height of power and influence, not only the spiritual, but also the
secular life of Europe. Europeans were feeling bold to launch an expansion of
Western Christendom and sometime between the 11th and 13th centuries, this took
place in the form of the Crusades in the Baltic border lands. However, the 14th
century would be an era of multiple crises that would weaken and even destroy many
of the medieval institutions of Europe that seemed the most durable, and in their
place, pave the way for the development of modern Europe which we all see today.
During the 11th and 13th centuries, Europe, organized strict feudal lines, finally
experiencing the social and political organization necessary for successful agriculture
and sufficient crop production. Since much of Europe had been forest and unsettled
land after

ligand gated ion channels that mediate a fast synaptic transmission of the
neurotransmitter.
The muscarinic AChRs occur primarily in the CNS, and are part of a large family
of G protein coupled receptors ( G proteins ), which use an intracellular secondary
messenger system involving an increase of intracellular calcium to transmit signals
inside cells. Binding of acetylcholine to a muscarinic AChR causes a conformational
change in the receptor that is responsible for its association with and activation of an
intracellular G protein, the latter converting GTP to GDP in order to become
activated and dissociate from the receptor. The activated G ... Show more content on

45. Summary Of Poem For Happiness
In life we assign meaning to everything. We construct ideals for ourselves, and then
frequently fail to uphold our own decrees. We lazily allow meanings to run together
and they lose their value. We become so focused on the ideal of something that we
lose sight and understanding of the purposeful and essential things going on around
us each day. In Poem For Breakfast, written by Geoff Bouvier, and The Art of
Happiness, by Mary Ruefle; loss of meaningin everyday life is explored. Through
forms of repetition and concept connection, these authors build discursive and
dramatic structures which serve not only to organize their poems but also to question
the way society lives in accordance with the meanings it creates. In Poem For
Breakfast, author Geoff Bouvier links each stanzatogether with internal connectors,
just as paragraphs in an argumentative essay are smoothly joined by transitions. This
form of connection allows him to continually question the meanings of words while
still moving forward logically and expanding his argument. In the first stanza Bouvier
claims that Everything is food, and then explains and refutes his own statement,
immediately starting the process of questioning meanings. The second stanza
expands upon the first theme of food, beginning with the claim: Food is also called
fodder. Bouvier again immediately refutes his claim, remarking that calling food
fodder [is] like a misspelling where they let it keep the same meaning. While
allowing a
46. Tertullian Just War Theory
Throughout this course we have gone over numerous different topics and issues that
all relate to the Bible. The topics range from Genesis and the different accounts of
creation to who founded the African Methodist Episcopal Church. A topic that seems
very intriguing is Augustine and Tertullian s theories on war and violence. This paper
will discuss the two main theories on violence in the Christian tradition. Throughout
history, Christians have had different perspectives on violence. Some of the accounts
are on the pacifist side, while others are on the side that violence is necessary in some
instances. The two leading authors on violence are Tertullian and Augustine.
Tertullian seems to base his facts more on the Bible, specifically Matthew s teachings.
These teachings based his thinking as to why a person should not commit violence
under any circumstances. Augustine bases his teachings off of Saint Thomas Aquinas
as well as accounts in the bible. These things helped him create what is known as the
Just WarTheory . In the end, one can see how Augustine s Just War Theory is a
much more viable option grounded in a Christian tradition which allows for one to
practice their faith, but not be pushed around by those looking to forcefully push one
away from God. Tertullian was a pacifist, which means he is completely against
violence and anything that involves violence, including war. He even disagrees with
a military simply for the fact that it involves

Intelligent Extraterrestrial Life
When I look up at the stars at night, I just have to wonder who or what is
looking back at me from some distant planet in some distant galaxy. We ve all
probably wondered what lies beyond our small, self contained little world. The
question many have pondered is whether or not there is intelligent life beyond
earth. In the words of Metrodorus, a Greek philosopher of the fourth century,
To consider the Earth as the only populated world in infinite space is as
absurd as to assert that in an entire field of millet, only one grain will
grow. I believe that intelligent extraterrestrial life does exist.
Critics of the theory of intelligent life beyond earth will argue that there is ... Show

Some say that there couldn t possibly be life on other planets because other
planets are too harsh to support life. First of all, our galaxy contains about
100 billion to 200 billion stars (Angelo 1985). Each one of these stars could
have planets much like ours, with an atmosphere capable of stabilizing an
environment to a point in which life is suitable. The only reason some think
that there are no planets like Earth is that we have actually explored and
researched very few planets, only a small fraction of the entire galaxy. In
addition to that, scientists believe that our galaxy is a very small fraction of
the universe. A universe which is still expanding, and will continue to expand
forever (ScienceNews May 29, 1999). The number of possibilities for life is
literally infinite.
Before we can discard the notion of extraterrestrial intelligence, we must
49. consider how much we actually know about the universe around us. While
scientists are fairly sure that no intelligent life currently exists on mars,
the possibility of past intelligent life is still unknown. A two year
investigation of a meteorite found in Antarctica, and believed to be hail from
Mars suggests that life did exist on Mars about 3.6 billion years ago. While
discussing the analysis of this meteorite, Richard N. Zare of Stanford

It can be quite the experience being approved for a mortgage, especially if it is your

implications dawns.
Mortgage payments can exert a heavy burden on your expenses. Besides paying a
mortgage, you have other equally important things to do with your money. Life goes
on even after the mortgage. However, the thought of paying for a house month after
month, year after year, for thirty years, is close to living a never ending nightmare.
But there s good news for you. You can actually complete paying off your 30 year
mortgage (assuming a $222,000 home at 4% interest) within 11 years ... Show more

Any extra, however small, payment you add to your monthly payments goes towards
reducing your principal amount. At the end of the day, you will end paying your
mortgage in a shorter time period and save in interest.
2. Cut Down on Your Non Essential Daily Expenditure
Having lunch is a necessity that you can t do without. But who said you must buy
lunch every day? What about bringing your own lunch from home? Let s assume that
you normally spend $100 a month on lunch. If you put this towards your mortgage
payment, you will end up saving yourself more than $25,000 in interest! Add to this
whatever you spend on Starbucks every month and you will see your interest
crumbling faster than cookies. There are so many non essential expenditure that you
can scrape or skim off to put your mortgage payments on the fast track.
3. Consider Refinancing Your Mortgage
No one wants to be tied down to a mortgage for 30 years! If the above stringent
measures are not your cup of coffee, you might want to consider refinancing your
mortgage for a shorter term, say 15 years instead of 30. Refinancing your home
allows you to get financing to pay off the initial loan and instead sign up for another
one with a lower interest, which is payable within a shorter

Celebrity Activists in Contemporary Society

According to the book Celebrity Politics, approximately 10 percent of Americans get
national political news from nightly entertainment shows such as the Tonight Show.
For Americans under 30, the number is nearly five times as many (Orman and West

news. As David Schultz aptly put it, The new media cover politics, but only politics as
it entertains, in part, because the audience the new media attract is a less politically
interested audience than traditional news audiences (20). The fact is that this

The most notable case of a politician using celebrity endorsers is that of former
President Ronald Reagan, a former B list actor himself. Some of his supporters in
1980 included James Cagney, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Hoagy Carmichael (West and
Orman 38).
The growing connection between politics and Hollywood has happened for a number
of reasons, in a somewhat cyclical fashion. Politicians need Hollywood stars to
support their campaigns because celebrities are useful in fundraising attempts and
recognition. They have the advantages of fame, wealth, and can easily command
press attention. In return, celebrities endorse candidates whose policies are
beneficial to their industry. For example, while Clinton was in office he argued for
industry self regulation and a television rating system, as opposed to formal
government regulation (Ormand and West 38). For this and other reasons,
Hollywood stars donated large sums of money to Democratic candidates in return. In
2000, Hollywood contributed $20 million to Democrats as opposed to the $13
million that was contributed to the less Hollywood friendly Republican party
(Ormand and West 40).
This is the new celebritized (Combs 123) political culture in which advocacy
organizations must function. Because the media is so inundated with celebrity

My song is Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield. This song is about being ready for

important theme. This song shows that it is okay to not have your life figured out,
but to still be open to new things and not scared. The song Unwritten by Natasha
Bedingfield uses a lot of symbolism. The song compares a book to life. One lyric
says that your life is unwritten, which is like saying that you still have a lot of life
left to live. Another lyric is Staring at the blank page before you . The blank page
symbolises the rest of your life. Another example of symbolism in this song is when
she says, Live your life with arms wide open . This means to be open to new things
55. The Themes Of African American Literature
Within African American Literature, there are many themes that are relatable across
many different forms of media. Paintings, for example, can have similar and
contradictory themes to those that are used in African American Literature. Like
authors with their literature, artists too take from their experiences and opinions and
form a creation that is a reflection of what they believe. These creations, both
literature and paintings, can contain certain topics that are quite alike. Ellis Wilson,
and African Americanartist, created a painting that exhibits the theme of spirituality in
his painting Prayerin the Field. This theme can be linked to at least three works from
African American literature that broadens the way readers and spectators of art see
spirituality.
In Prayer in the Field, it is not difficult to see that spirituality is a major theme.
There are three elements of this painting that support the theme of spirituality. The
first element of this painting that one notices is the bright colors used. Ellis
Wilson, whom is known for his expressive, emphasis of color, uses warm and
inviting colors to create a scene that conveys complete tranquility (Ellis Wilson).
Along with color, the next element is the four figures kneeling in the field praying.
These elongated forms, which Wilson is also known for, are what bring in the
spirituality aspect (Ellis Wilson). The tone of Prayer in the Field created by the
colors is what gives these kneeling figures meaning. The warm

13 February 2015 Paper # 1: Close Reading ?Sometimes the quarrel between two
princes is to decide which of them shall dispossess a third of his dominions, where
neither of them pretend to any right. Sometimes one prince quarreleth with one
another; for fear the other should quarrel with him. Sometimes a war is entered upon,
because the enemy is too strong, and sometimes because he is too weak.
Sometimes our neighbors want the things which we have, or have the things
which we want; and we will both fight, til they take ours or give us theirs. It is a
very justifiable cause of war to invade a country after the people have been wasted
by famine, destroyed by pestilence, or embroiled by factions amongst themselves. It
is justifiable to enter into a war against our nearest ally, when one of his towns lie
convenient to us, or a territory or land, that would render our dominions round and
compact. If a prince send forces into a nation, where the people are poor and
ignorant, he may lawfully put half of them to death, and make slaves of the rest, in
order to civilize and reduce them from their barbarous way of living.? (Swift 2602).
This quotation comes from the middle of chapter five, part four of Gulliver?s
Travels, by Johnathon Swift, as Gulliver begins explaining the state of England to the
master Houyhnhnm, and more specifically, why princes in England go to war with
one another. This passage is of particular import
