the electoral bonds scheme carries significant

electoral bond details purchased by donors since the
court’s interim order passed inApril 2019 by the State

inforces this commitment to transparency. The pur-
chasers of these bonds enjoyed anonymity. Petitioners
questioned this anonymity. The EC has been ordered
to publish the details on its website by March 31, 2024.
This verdict serves as a litmus test for political par-

capitalism. The government defended the scheme for

BENEATH THE

Examine the physical
structure of brain cells as
deeply as you want, and
there is no hint at the fact
that the brain produces a
3-D image of the world.
Nor does a close examina-
tion of specific brain areas
explain how we convert
invisible photons, the
quanta of light, into sight,
the vibration of air into
sound, and so on through
all five senses.
What lies beyond physical-
ism and its almost total
dominance in science? No
one can predict, although
a paradigm shift is inevita-
ble, because of the objec-
tions just raised, and many
more. We don’t even know
what a thought is or have
the ability to predict what
our next thought will be.
For now, here are some
quotations from a thinker
who looked to the mind’s

an unproven assumption,
namely,thatonceyouunder-
stand the brain, you under-
stand the mind. At best, the
notion that Brain=Mind is
touch and go. When you try
tofigureoutwherethoughts,
feelings, and sensations
come from, you find your-
self in a strange domain
filledwithmirrors,illusions,
and a shaky grasp of reality.
The mind is harder to hunt
down than the mythical uni-
cornbecause,withthemind,
thehunterandthehuntedare
the same.
This frustrating obstacle
has led to speculation that
swings between two ex-
tremes: At one extreme,
occupied by strict materi-
alists, consciousness is
pure illusion created by
brain chemistry. At the
other extreme, occupied by
anyone who doesn’t really
want an explanation, con-
sciousness is a given that
defies exploration, much
as water is a given to a fish.
Must the riddle of the
mind remain a riddle? For
answers, relying on
Brain=Mind is a dead end,
even though that’s the po-
sition adopted wholesale
by neuroscience. The com-
plexity of the human nerv-
ous system is fascinating,
but the mind doesn’t need
the brain in order to exist.
Consciousness preceded
all living things by being
fundamental in creation.
Over the past decade or
so, the notion that con-
sciousness is innate in the
universe, as built-in as
gravity, has gained in stat-
ure. Some leading cosmol-
ogists are circling back to
the insights of quantum
pioneers like Max Planck
and Erwin Schrödinger.
Planck declared that it was
impossible to “get behind
consciousness,” meaning
that consciousness can’t be
explained by referring to
anything more primal.
Schrödinger held that con-
sciousness cannot be sub-
divided; there is only one
consciousness, even
though it appears to be sub-
divided into billions of in-
dividual minds. To use an
honored analogy from the
Vedanta tradition in India,
pure gold can be made into
countless objects, but in es-
sence, they are all gold.
Quantum physics is a
two-edgedsword,however,
whenitcomestoexplaining
themind.Itsprincipleshave
been used to justify a con-
scious universe or not, de-
pending on the perspective
of the thinker who is wield-
ing the theory.The predom-
inant aim is always to res-
cue the materialist (now
generallycalledphysicalist)
viewpoint. A sharp break is
all but impossible even
amongfar-seeingphysicists
and neuroscientists.
On the sidelines, the
physicalist view is steadily
eroding even without the
thorny issue of conscious-
ness to contend with. It is
agreed among quantum
theorists that subatomic
particles are essentially
mathematical constructs,
withnofixedpropertiesthat
resemble tangible objects.
So how did rocks, clouds,
mountains, and trees get
their physical properties?
How do we get from math-
ematics,whichhasnophys-
ical properties, to the hard-
ness of granite and the
sweetness of strawberries?
It’s a classic example of
“you can’t get there from
here.” Physicalism isn’t ap-
plicable to the mind.Atoms
and molecules can’t think,
and the human brain con-
sists of nothing but ordi-
nary organic molecules that
are shuffled around not
very differently from heart
or liver cells. This obvious-
ness of this objection is so
glaring, you wonder how it
can be denied. Making the
brain the source of the mind
is like making the colors on
Rembrandt’s palette the
source of his genius.
The fallacy of physical-
ism runs much deeper even
than this. Why is oxygen
gaseous while iron is hard?
A glance at the periodic
chart of the elements re-
veals that an iron atom is
larger than an oxygen atom,
but this fact has nothing to
do with hardness. Because
they are the first two ele-
ments in the periodic chart,
you might suppose that hy-
drogen and helium are gas-
es, but the third element is
lithium, a soft, silvery met-
al. That is unpredictable
from the lithium atom,
much less why it should be
medically effective for bi-
polar disorder.
Examine the physical
structure of brain cells as
deeply as you want, and
there is no hint at the fact
that the brain produces a
3-D image of the world.
Nor does a close examina-
tion of specific brain areas
explain how we convert

tions from a thinker who

thest horizon and beyond.
His name was Vasistha, a
Vedic sage writing many
centuries ago, but almost
eerily anticipating the most
far-seeing speculations in
current cosmology.
l “The entire universe is
forever the same as the
consciousness that dwells
in every atom, even as an
ornament is non-different
from gold.”
l “Cosmic consciousness
alone exists now and ever;
in it are no worlds, no cre-
ated beings. That con-
sciousness reflected in itself
appears to be creation.”
l“This consciousness is not
knowable: when it wishes
to become the knowable, it
is known as the universe.”
l “The world exists because
consciousness is, and
the world is the body of
consciousness.”
THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY

Innovate options for broadcasting: Thakur
PTI
New Delhi

Anurag Thakur
on Thursday
made a strong pitch for
exploring innovative op-
tions of broadcasting
such as Direct-to-Mobile
to ensure wider reach of
content to all strata of the
society and also become
self-reliant in the sector.
Inaugurating the an-

also stressed the need for
encouraging indigenous
research and develop-
ment by nurturing scien-
tific talent and fostering
partnerships between
industry and academia.
“New Direct to Mo-

offer exciting content
possibilities for terres-
trial broadcasting not
only to television but
also on handheld devic-
es such as mobile
phones, notepads on any
where, anytime basis,
and that too without the
need of Internet,” the
I&B Minister said.
“We must explore and
embrace innovative op-
tions of broadcasting
like Next Gen broad-
casting which shall not
only ensure wider reach
to cater to all strata of
our society but also
serve as a catalyst for

Farmers agitation continues
Shocking:StirplannedtobringdownModi’sgraph
First India Bureau
New Delhi/Chandigarh
It seems that the farmers’
agitationhasbeenplanned
to “bring down the graph
of PM Narendra Modi”.
The statement of one of
the farmers leaders bears
testimony to this.
Bharti Kisan Union
(Ekta Sidhupur) chief
Jagjit Singh Dallewal,
one of the agitating or-
ganisations, has made a
statement against PM
Modi, which has raised
questions on the intention
of the ongoing protest.
A video has gone viral
in which Dallewal is say-
ing that the farmers’ pro-
test has been launched to
bring down the graph of
PM Modi’s popularity.
“PM Modi’s graph has
gone too high after Ram
Mandir... there is very lit-
tle time... we need to
bring down his graph...,”
Dallewal is heard saying
in this viral video.
As people suffer due to stir, a farmer leader’s statement raises questions on intention of their protest
Ludhiana: Some
trains on the Delhi-
Amritsar route were
diverted on Thursday after
farmers squatted on tracks
at many places in Punjab
over the Haryana Police’s
action against ‘Delhi Chalo’
protesters. Farmers staged
dharnas at several toll plazas
and forced authorities to not
charge the commuters a toll
fee. Some farmer bodies had
given the call for a four-hour
‘rail roko’ protest at several
places in Punjab. Farmers
began their stir around 12
pm by squatting on rail
tracks at several places. As
farmers are sitting on the rail-
way tracks at several places
on the main Delhi-Amritsar
route, railway authorities
diverted the routes of the
trains via Chandigarh (for
Delhi side) and Lohian Khas
(for Amritsar and Jalandhar
side), an Indian Railways
spokesperson said.
New Delhi: After Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s video on rising graph of PM Narendra Modi
went viral, rival BJP and Congress parties have expressed their views on the issue.
The BJP did not directly attack the farmer leader for his comments against Modi but
said that the PM’s graph is already very high for a long period of time due to his honesty, work
and people’s blessings. “He is a world leader,” BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said and
noted the homecoming of seven Indian nationals from Qatar. They were on the death row in
Qatar on alleged espionage charges before their sentence was commuted to jail terms. They
were later released following India’s intervention. Prasad also referred to Modi’ trips to Abu
Dhabi and Qatar to make his point about his global recognition. Meanwhile, Congress said
that if any farmer displays his political leanings he should not be considered an anti-national.

New Delhi:
Carrying lug-
gage, while
accompanying their
little children, sev-
eral commuters faced
difficulties as the Sin-
ghu border remained
closed for traffic for
the third consecutive
day on Thursday in
view of the farmers’
protest. Some people
also had to cross the
Delhi-Haryana border
on foot while carrying
their little children in
arms. The restrictions
in areas around the
Delhi-Haryana border
points, which have
been fortified with
metal barricades and
concrete blocks to stop
farmers from enter-
ing the city, came into
effect on Tuesday, the
day the march began.
Chandigarh/New Delhi: The farmers have devised
innovative tactics to counter these escalated secu-
rity efforts. They took to the skies, flying kites as a
strategic move to disrupt the drones' operation, tangling
their rotors and limiting the effectiveness of the tear-gas
firing zone. Additionally, the protesters donned goggles to
protect themselves from the effects of the tear gas. When
faced with the physical barriers of cement blocks on the
roads, the farmers showcased their resolve by manually
dragging away the blocks and even using tractors to clear
their path, undeterred in their march towards Delhi.
Kolkata: West Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar,
who had fallen sick on Wednesday after getting
caught in a scuffle
between police and BJP
supporters at Taki in North
24 Parganas district, is still in
ICU. “Sukanta Majumdar is in

he has vomiting tendencies.
He needs to rest for some time in order to recover fully,”
said Leader of the Opposition in West Bengal Assembly,
Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday. Majumdar received injuries
on his chest, ribs and waist during the scuffle.
Chandigarh: The
Union Home Ministry
has ordered suspen-
sion of telecom services
in Shutrana, Khanauri and

on Friday in the wake of

unions. Earlier, in neigh-

Young people hate corruption because they feel cheated by nepotism: V-P
First India Bureau
New Delhi
“Corruption and patron-
age are the worst killers
of young innovative
minds, and antithetical to
merit and stability”,
stressed the Vice-Presi-
dent Jagdeep Dhankhar
while addressing the
125th Founders Day cel-
ebrations of the Hindu
College, University of
Delhi on Thursday.
He further empha-
sized, “Young people
hate corruption because
they feel cheated by nep-
otism, favouritism”.
Lauding recent re-
forms in the governance
ecosystem, Dhankhar
highlighted that power
corridors have now been
fully sanitized of cor-
rupt elements, and a
transparent, accounta-
ble system is in place.
Now is a time when
meritocracy prevails
and youth can aspire
and fulfill their dreams
and fully exploit their
potential, he added.
In his address,
Dhankhar stressed that,
“equality before law is
the most inalienable fea-
ture quintessential to
democratic govern-
ance”. Referring to re-
cent developments, he
said, “now no one is
above the law, the long
arm of law is reaching to
everyone particularly to
those who never thought
they will be held ac-
countable to law.”
Asserting the impor-
tance of respecting rule
of law, VPstated “respect
for law is respect for na-
tionalism, respect for law
is respect for democracy
and respect for law is re-
spect for meritocracy,
respect for law is curbing
corruption.”
Calling upon those in
positions of power and
authority, Dhankhar em-
phasized, “it is the prime
obligation of all particu-
larly those in positions of
power and authority to
set an example by show-
ing respect to law”.
Underlining India’s
economic rise during
the last decade,
Dhankhar said that, “A

was taken to be part of

the global economy...
but now we are among
the big five global econ-

ver the last
decade, the
dire repercus-
sions of cli-
mate change
have become
indisputable and increasingly
alarming. Floods have affected
billions of people around the
world. In developing coun-
tries, its impact has been great-
er on vulnerable groups, espe-
cially women. In the decade
starting 2010 showed a sig-
nificant increase in the risk of
pregnancy loss (miscarriage or
stillbirth) for women exposed
to floods in early and mid-
stage pregnancy. According to
research published in Nature
Communications, flood events
during 2010-2020 could be re-
sponsible for approximately
1,07,888 additional pregnan-
cy-related losses annually in
33 developing countries.
Preconception exposure to
floods may significantly affect
the health of pregnant women
and the development of their
fetuses. Previous studies have
indicated that maternal expo-
sure to flood during pregnancy
elevates the risk of pregnancy
loss, a major public health con-
cern that is linked with substan-
tial economic and emotional
tolls. However, prevailing epi-
demiological data linking ma-
ternalfloodexposuretoadverse
birth outcomes often stems
from small samples, isolated
flood incidents, or confined re-
gions, making it difficult to
draw reliable conclusions.
WOMEN SENSITIVE TO
INDIRECT EFFECTS
Women and children are 14
times more likely than men to
receive fatal casualties when
disaster strikes. An Oxfam
analysis showed that during
the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsuna-
mi, 70 percent of the 230,000
people killed were women.
Women in developing coun-
tries such as Pakistan are par-
ticularly vulnerable to the im-
pacts of climate disasters due
to deep-rooted gender inequi-
ties that define the moral and
social fabric of their societies.
The direct consequences of
floods are immediate such as
physical destruction, psycho-
logical stress and infectious
diseases etc. But its indirect
effects particularly affect preg-
nant women, including unsafe
labor and delivery, and lack of
essential elements such as food
and water. Apart from this, ex-
posure to floods greatly affects
the health of pregnant women
and the development of their
fetus. The destruction of fam-
ily and social structures, in-
cluding homes and local com-
munities, by floods makes
women more vulnerable to
these hazards and have to man-
age the risks alone.
MOST CASES REPORTED
IN SOUTH ASIA
Flood-related risk most affects
women aged 21-35. Geographi-
cally,SouthAsia(43%)reported
the highest incidence of preg-
nancy loss, followed by Sub-
SaharanAfrica(28%)andSouth
America (13%). Pregnancy loss
occurred more frequently in ru-
ral areas (59%) than in cities
(41%). The countries with the
highest rates of pregnancy loss
in the 2010s were the Domini-
can Republic, Rwanda and Co-

powering them with climate-

THE WORLD SUFFERED
ECONOMIC LOSSES WORTH
BILLIONS OF DOLLARS
Flood-relatedmaternalandchild
health challenges are greater in
developing countries as 89 per-
cent of the global flood-affected
population lives in low- and
middle-income countries. Re-
cent changes in climate, sea
level,infrastructure,andpopula-
tion dynamics have accelerated
the severity, duration, and fre-
quency of catastrophic floods.
Floods have emerged as the
most prevalent types of natural
disasters over the past few dec-
ades, affecting 2.3 billion peo-
ple. This has resulted in eco-
nomic losses of more than $600
billion globally. This study
serves as a warning to govern-
ments, policy makers and inter-
national organizations to prior-
itize the protection and assis-
tance of pregnant women in
developingcountries,especially
in the face of increasing flood
risks due to climate change.

This film marks the first col-

admiration for Madhuri.
Kriti Sanon took to her X

Nor does a close examina- tion of specific brain areas explain how we convert invisible photons, the quanta of light, into sight, the vibration of air into sound, and so on through all five senses. What lies beyond physical- ism and its almost total dominance in science? No one can predict, although a paradigm shift is inevita- ble, because of the objec- tions just raised, and many more. We don’t even know what a thought is or have the ability to predict what our next thought will be. For now, here are some quotations from a thinker who looked to the mind’s farthest horizon and beyond. His name was Vasistha, a Vedic sage writing many centuries ago, but almost eerily anticipating the most far- seeing speculations in current cosmology. WHYYOURBRAINISN’T EXPERIENCINGANYTHING ven as we pass through a golden age for brain sci- ence, onlythe futurewilldeterminewheth- erthewholefieldisbasedon an unproven assumption, namely,thatonceyouunder- stand the brain, you under- stand the mind. At best, the notion that Brain=Mind is touch and go. When you try tofigureoutwherethoughts, feelings, and sensations come from, you find your- self in a strange domain filledwithmirrors, illusions, and a shaky grasp of reality. The mind is harder to hunt down than the mythical uni- cornbecause, withthemind, thehunterandthehuntedare the same. This frustrating obstacle has led to speculation that swings between two ex- tremes: At one extreme, occupied by strict materi- alists, consciousness is pure illusion created by brain chemistry. At the other extreme, occupied by anyone who doesn’t really want an explanation, con- sciousness is a given that defies exploration, much as water is a given to a fish. Must the riddle of the mind remain a riddle? For answers, relying on Brain=Mind is a dead end, even though that’s the po- sition adopted wholesale by neuroscience. The com- plexity of the human nerv- ous system is fascinating, but the mind doesn’t need the brain in order to exist. Consciousness preceded all living things by being fundamental in creation. Over the past decade or so, the notion that con- sciousness is innate in the universe, as built-in as gravity, has gained in stat- ure. Some leading cosmol- ogists are circling back to the insights of quantum pioneers like Max Planck and Erwin Schrödinger. Planck declared that it was impossible to “get behind consciousness,” meaning that consciousness can’t be explained by referring to anything more primal. Schrödinger held that con- sciousness cannot be sub- divided; there is only one consciousness, even though it appears to be sub- divided into billions of in- dividual minds. To use an honored analogy from the Vedanta tradition in India, pure gold can be made into countless objects, but in es- sence, they are all gold. Quantum physics is a two-edgedsword,however, whenitcomestoexplaining themind.Itsprincipleshave been used to justify a con- scious universe or not, de- pending on the perspective of the thinker who is wield- ing the theory. The predom- inant aim is always to res- cue the materialist (now generallycalledphysicalist) viewpoint. A sharp break is all but impossible even amongfar-seeingphysicists and neuroscientists. On the sidelines, the physicalist view is steadily eroding even without the thorny issue of conscious- ness to contend with. It is agreed among quantum theorists that subatomic particles are essentially mathematical constructs, withnofixedpropertiesthat resemble tangible objects. So how did rocks, clouds, mountains, and trees get their physical properties? How do we get from math- ematics,whichhasnophys- ical properties, to the hard- ness of granite and the sweetness of strawberries? It’s a classic example of “you can’t get there from here.” Physicalism isn’t ap- plicable to the mind.Atoms and molecules can’t think, and the human brain con- sists of nothing but ordi- nary organic molecules that are shuffled around not very differently from heart or liver cells. This obvious- ness of this objection is so glaring, you wonder how it can be denied. Making the brain the source of the mind is like making the colors on Rembrandt’s palette the source of his genius. The fallacy of physical- ism runs much deeper even than this. Why is oxygen gaseous while iron is hard? A glance at the periodic chart of the elements re- veals that an iron atom is larger than an oxygen atom, but this fact has nothing to do with hardness. Because they are the first two ele- ments in the periodic chart, you might suppose that hy- drogen and helium are gas- es, but the third element is lithium, a soft, silvery met- al. That is unpredictable from the lithium atom, much less why it should be medically effective for bi- polar disorder. Examine the physical structure of brain cells as deeply as you want, and there is no hint at the fact that the brain produces a 3-D image of the world. Nor does a close examina- tion of specific brain areas explain how we convert invisible photons, the quanta of light, into sight, the vibration of air into sound, and so on through all five senses. What lies beyond physi- calism and its almost total dominance in science? No one can predict, although a paradigm shift is inevitable, because of the objections just raised, and many more. We don’t even know what a thought is or have the ability to predict what our next thought will be. For now, here are some quota- tions from a thinker who looked to the mind’s far- thest horizon and beyond. His name was Vasistha, a Vedic sage writing many centuries ago, but almost eerily anticipating the most far-seeing speculations in current cosmology. l “The entire universe is forever the same as the consciousness that dwells in every atom, even as an ornament is non-different from gold.” l “Cosmic consciousness alone exists now and ever; in it are no worlds, no cre- ated beings. That con- sciousness reflected in itself appears to be creation.” l“This consciousness is not knowable: when it wishes to become the knowable, it is known as the universe.” l “The world exists because consciousness is, and the world is the body of consciousness.” THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL Over the past decade or so, the notion that consciousness is innate in the universe, as built-in as gravity, has gained in stature. Some leading cosmologists are circling back to the insights of quantum pioneers like Max Planck and Erwin Schrödinger. Planck declared that it was impossible to “get behind consciousness,” meaning that consciousness can’t be explained by referring to anything more primal. The statement of one of the farmers leaders bears testimony to this. Bharti Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur) chief Jagjit Singh Dallewal, one of the agitating or- ganisations, has made a statement against PM Modi, which has raised questions on the intention of the ongoing protest. A video has gone viral in which Dallewal is say- ing that the farmers’ pro- test has been launched to bring down the graph of PM Modi’s popularity. “PM Modi’s graph has gone too high after Ram Mandir... there is very lit- tle time... we need to bring down his graph...,” Dallewal is heard saying in this viral video. As people suffer due to stir, a farmer leader’s statement raises questions on intention of their protest Ludhiana: Some trains on the Delhi- Amritsar route were diverted on Thursday after farmers squatted on tracks at many places in Punjab over the Haryana Police’s action against ‘Delhi Chalo’ protesters. Farmers staged dharnas at several toll plazas and forced authorities to not charge the commuters a toll fee. Some farmer bodies had given the call for a four-hour ‘rail roko’ protest at several places in Punjab. Farmers began their stir around 12 pm by squatting on rail tracks at several places. As farmers are sitting on the rail- way tracks at several places on the main Delhi-Amritsar route, railway authorities diverted the routes of the trains via Chandigarh (for Delhi side) and Lohian Khas (for Amritsar and Jalandhar side), an Indian Railways spokesperson said. New Delhi: After Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s video on rising graph of PM Narendra Modi went viral, rival BJP and Congress parties have expressed their views on the issue. Floods have affected billions of people around the world. In developing coun- tries, its impact has been great- er on vulnerable groups, espe- cially women. In the decade starting 2010 showed a sig- nificant increase in the risk of pregnancy loss (miscarriage or stillbirth) for women exposed to floods in early and mid- stage pregnancy. According to research published in Nature Communications, flood events during 2010-2020 could be re- sponsible for approximately 1,07,888 additional pregnan- cy-related losses annually in 33 developing countries. Preconception exposure to floods may significantly affect the health of pregnant women and the development of their fetuses. Previous studies have indicated that maternal expo- sure to flood during pregnancy elevates the risk of pregnancy loss, a major public health con- cern that is linked with substan- tial economic and emotional tolls. However, prevailing epi- demiological data linking ma- ternalfloodexposuretoadverse birth outcomes often stems from small samples, isolated flood incidents, or confined re- gions, making it difficult to draw reliable conclusions. WOMEN SENSITIVE TO INDIRECT EFFECTS Women and children are 14 times more likely than men to receive fatal casualties when disaster strikes. An Oxfam analysis showed that during the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsuna- mi, 70 percent of the 230,000 people killed were women. Women in developing coun- tries such as Pakistan are par- ticularly vulnerable to the im- pacts of climate disasters due to deep-rooted gender inequi- ties that define the moral and social fabric of their societies. The direct consequences of floods are immediate such as physical destruction, psycho- logical stress and infectious diseases etc. But its indirect effects particularly affect preg- nant women, including unsafe labor and delivery, and lack of essential elements such as food and water. Apart from this, ex- posure to floods greatly affects the health of pregnant women and the development of their fetus. The destruction of fam- ily and social structures, in- cluding homes and local com- munities, by floods makes women more vulnerable to these hazards and have to man- age the risks alone. MOST CASES REPORTED IN SOUTH ASIA Flood-related risk most affects women aged 21-35. Geographi- cally,SouthAsia(43%)reported the highest incidence of preg- nancy loss, followed by Sub- SaharanAfrica(28%)andSouth America (13%). Pregnancy loss occurred more frequently in ru- ral areas (59%) than in cities (41%). The countries with the highest rates of pregnancy loss in the 2010s were the Domini- can Republic, Rwanda and Co- lombia.Involvingwomeninkey decision-making within com- munities, recognizing them as importantstakeholders,andem- powering them with climate- risk resilience skills and knowl- edge could elevate their role as agents of change. THE WORLD SUFFERED ECONOMIC LOSSES WORTH BILLIONS OF DOLLARS Flood-relatedmaternalandchild health challenges are greater in developing countries as 89 per- cent of the global flood-affected population lives in low- and middle-income countries. Re- cent changes in climate, sea level,infrastructure,andpopula- tion dynamics have accelerated the severity, duration, and fre- quency of catastrophic floods. Floods have emerged as the most prevalent types of natural disasters over the past few dec- ades, affecting 2.3 billion peo- ple. This has resulted in eco- nomic losses of more than $600 billion globally. This study serves as a warning to govern- ments, policy makers and inter- national organizations to prior- itize the protection and assis- tance of pregnant women in developingcountries, especially in the face of increasing flood risks due to climate change.
