a. Definition
Practical question is one which puts the examinee to
perform a task to form and verify hypothesis /
establishment of a hypothesis / establishment of already
proved law.
b. Criteria for constructing practical test questions
b.1. Question should test the psychomotor domain.
b.2. Use appropriate wordings
b.3. Safety measures to be taken for conducting the
test
b.3. Safety measures to be taken into account for
conducting the test
✓Practical test should be on the ability level of students.
✓Availability of necessary instruments / tools / chemicals
should be checked
✓Poisonous substances should not be given
✓Explosive substances should be avoided
✓Examinees should do the practical under supervised
environment
c. Advantages
•Measures cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains.
•Students ability of handling the apparatus can be known
d. Limitations
• Necessity of skilled teacher
•Availability of instruments / tools
•Availability of chemicals
•Can’t set practical test for entire syllabus
Example
• Find whether the given substances as acid or base
(Verification of hypotheis) (Skill)
•Find the volume of the given cube
(Calculation) (Skill)
