Commandments of
Human Relations
+
WHAT IS
HUMAN RELATION?
2
noun
HUMAN RELATIONS
An area of management
practice which is concerned
with the integration of people
into a work situation in a way
that motivate them to work
productively, cooperatively
and with economic,
psychological & social
satisfaction.
- Keith Davis
3
HUMAN RELATIONS
Relation between human
being that are affected by
many other factors & helps in
the accomplishment of goals
of an organization.
4
There is nothing as
nice as a cheerful word
of greeting.
5
SPEAK GRACIOUSLY
TO PEOPLE
It takes 72 muscles to
frown, only 14 to
smile.
6
SMILE AT PEOPLE
The sweetest music is
the sound of one’s
name.
7
CALL PEOPLE BY NAME
Build relationships
with those on your
team by treating them
like a friend and
remember to be a
friend first.
8
BE FRIENDLYAND
HELPFUL.
Sincerely speak and
act as if everything you
do is a honest choice.
9
BE CORDIAL.
You can like almost
everybody if you try.
They don’t care how
much you know until
they know how much
you care.
10
BE GENUINELY
INTERESTED IN PEOPLE
Praise publicly, correct
privately. Everyone
wins this way.
11
BE GENEROUSWITH
PRAISE, BE CAUTIOUS
WITH CRITICISM
Understanding the
feelings of others is
usually appreciated.
12
BE CONSIDERATEWITH
THE FEELINGS OF OTHERS
There are three sides to a
controversy – yours, the
other fellow’s, and the
RIGHT one.
13
BETHOUGHTFUL OFTHE
OPINION OF OTHERS.
What counts most is
what we do for others
not ourselves.
14
BE ALERT
Don’t take yourself too
seriously. When you
add loads of patience,
and humility, you will
have a formula for
enduring success.
15
HAVE A GOOD SENSE
OF HUMOR
HUMAN RELATIONS
Some of these may sound
simple, while others seem
more difficult. But they are all
equally as important. In
today’s world, a deeper
understanding of the
sensitivities of human
interactions becomes not only
essential but imperative.
16
…
Human Relations is nothing else but Jesus’ command:
Love One Other
(John 15:17).
17
…
Remember them
and, more importantly,
put them into practice.

Editor's Notes

  1. Most of us are quite familiar with the story of the 10 Commandments in the Bible given to Moses in Mount Sinai. However, I find 10 Commandments of Human Relations also quite inspiring. After all, an effective human relation is essential especially when  we are dealing with different kinds of people almost every day. In a nutshell, human relation is the skill or ability to work effectively through and with other people.  Lets take a look at these simple yet often neglected principles in communicating with people. 1. Speak to people. There is nothing as nice as a cheerful word of greeting. Approaching people and talking with them will provide the opportunity to hear more about their stories. Oftentimes, a simple greeting is the first step to break silence and intimidation. 2. Smile at people. It takes seventy-two muscles to frown, only fourteen to smile. While almost everyone keeps busy using mobile phones or gadgets, we take for granted to smile with people around us. Smiling will give you a chance to exercise your muscle face and look even younger than frowning. If you are working in the service industry which involves meeting new people, it is always worth to smile. Remember, smiling is also contagious and can increase productivity. 3. Call people by name. Music to anyone’s ears is the sound of his/her own name. Calling people by name shows sincerity and interest in communicating with people. If you are finding hard time to memorize names, start practicing. 4. Be friendly and helpful. If there is an opportunity to help, never hesitate to do it. John Maxwell once said, “People really don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”  So, don’t forget to reach out people. 5. Be cordial. Speak and act as if everything you do is genuinely a pleasure, and if it isn’t, learn to make it so. Being cordial and polite shows that you respect people. It has also the power  to lessen the conflict or tension especially when dealing with difficult people in the workplace. 6. Be genuinely interested in people. You can like almost everybody if you try. People have stories to tell with others either good or bad. So, be genuinely interested in people and lend your ears. If you’re a teacher, approach your students and talked with them. Don’t wait for them to talk with you. 7. Be generous with praise, cautious with criticism. Never forget to commend someone who did good things to you and to others. If you wish to  criticize someone, do it gently and in a constructive manner. 8. Be considerate with the feelings of others. There are usually three sides to a controversy: yours, the other fellow’s, and the right one. To hurt the feelings of others is a painful experience which creates tension in every relationship. Therefore, you have to be considerate and make sure to listen all sides with empathy. 9. Be alert to serve. What counts most in life is what we do for others. Serving others is the ultimate purpose in life. Whenever there is an opportunity to serve, do it without hesitation. 10. Add to this a good sense of humor, a big dose of patience, and a dash of humility, and you will be rewarded manifold through life. Apostle Paul is reminding believers in Galatians to never get tired in doing good. Remember, always be humble. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. –Galatians 6:9
  2. Also Peacefully. Some have to be leaders to lead the groups in the accomplishment of their ends.
  3. The basis of a good human relation is a good character. One must possess important divine values as well as socially acceptable human values to enabled him to live well with others.
  4. There is nothing like a cheerful word accompanied by eye contact, be sure to look your team member in the eye as you speak.
  5. People can hear the difference in your voice – even over the phone.
  6. But be sure that as you refer to someone by name, that you are pronouncing it correctly. Calling people by name shows sincerity and interest in communicating with people. If you are finding hard time to memorize names, start practicing.
  7. Cheerfulness promotes a pleasant relationship
  8. Speak & Act with utmost sincerity. A Cordial gesture invigorates the heart.
  9. It is a nice feeling to be genuinely interested in people in all walks of life.
  10. We make friends when we praise, enemies with criticism. Never forget to commend someone who did good things to you and to others. If you wish to  criticize someone, do it gently and in a constructive manner.
  11. To hurt the feelings of others is a painful experience which creates tension in every relationship. Therefore, you have to be considerate and make sure to listen all sides with empathy.
  12. Serving others is the ultimate purpose in life. Whenever there is an opportunity to serve, do it without hesitation.
  13. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. –Galatians 6:9
