Introduction Summary
The article I critiqued is called “Interactions Among Online Learners: A Quantitative
Interdisciplinary Study” by Pawan Jain, Sachin Jain, and Smita Jain, 2011. The study focuses on
the amount of interaction students have with each other and with their professors to identify if
interaction levels differ among disciplines.
Research Problem
The major research problem identified in the study is that there is not enough research
concerning the matter of online interaction. The majority of the completed research is very
discipline specific and cannot be generalized. The author’s justification for conducting the study
was to remedy the lack of prior research on this increasingly important topic. The purpose is “to
fill the gap and try to understand the relationship between the interaction and differences in
discipline;” however, the authors also noted that this was “one” of the purposes of the study and
failed to mention any other purpose.
While the authors did not specifically discuss their decision to utilize a quantitative
approach in this study, it was clearly justified by their need to examine the relationship between
discipline and study interaction. The theoretical basis that is used as the basis for this study is
that increased interaction within an online course will ultimately lead to a better designed course
and better outcomes for students grades. Further, the authors attest that much of the literature is
inadequate for their study due to the specificity of the studies, disallowing them to be universally
applied.
ARTICLE CRITIQUE 3
The research question is “do the differences in the discipline area impact the overall
interaction among learners as defined by the number of learner-learner interactions?” The
hypothesis that was tested is “there is no significant relationship between the number of learner-
learner interactions and discipline area.” The only noted relationship that could be inferred
between the theory and the research question/hypotheses is that there are not any studies that
have been conducted that measure said information in a way that can be used for their purposes.
They note the importance of learner-learner interaction as a major pedagogical design; however,
they continued to note the lack of available research.
METHODS SUMMARY
Measurement
The primary concepts/variables in this study were the observations of the amount of
discussion posts by students in 39 different courses across 4 disciplines (College of Education,
College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Health Sciences). The
identified independent variable was the 4 categories of discipline; the dependent variable ...

Introduction
In my selection of an article which fits the assignment criteria I zeroed down to a peer-reviewed article entitled “Impact of social media on student’s performance”. The article was authored in 2013 by Sara Selvaraj of Vels University. This work posits to explain the issue being addressed in the research article, the purpose of the work, provide a summary of the research questions therein, describe both the null and alternative hypothesis used by the author, show application of the conceptual framework, and discuss the methodology used and the limitation of the article.
Describe the problem or issue addressed.
The main issue addressed in the article is the consequences of students using social networking platforms. This means the impact that social networking has on the education system. As evident from the literature part of the work social networking sites are not meant to have a negative effect on the education system. However, it has turned out that there is an array of negative effects of using social networking sites by students. One of these problems is prompted by social networking site addiction. Students with access to the internet and have social media networking sites accounts spend a significant time of their day on these sites. The impact of that is the students are left with little or no time for their personal studies hence cannot submit things like assignments in a timely fashion (Selvaraj, 2013). Secondly, the students are poised to fail their examinations or experience a decline in their academic scores. The article attempts to show the severity of this problem and provide proof that indeed the problems exist.
Describe the purpose or intent of the study.
The article has 3 main objectives or intents. The first objective is to determine the influence of various social networking sites on student’s academic performance. Young children or generation is one of the most affected by social networking sites. The study tries to investigate the difference between the performance of the students before starting to use the sites and the performance after starting to use the sites. The second objective of the study is to investigate how the education system in totality has been impacted by social networking sites. This objective arises from the knowledge that not only student use the sites. The websites are used nearly by everyone in the sector irrespective of age, position and professional. This use must have an effect and it’s this impact that the work tries to unravel. The third objective of the study is to determine the motivation behind the use of social networking sites. These are the uses which are prompting individuals to sign up of social media accounts. The work also tries to discover the uses of the si.

The document summarizes the key differences between action research and action learning. Action research aims to improve practices through a structured, reflective process involving researchers studying their own practices. It focuses on generating new knowledge and understanding through analyzing issues, taking action, and reflecting on the results. In contrast, action learning focuses on the learning of participants as they select issues, analyze them, take action, and reflect, without necessarily generating new theoretical knowledge. The primary goal is learning rather than research.

Feasibility and preliminary outcomes of a yoga and mindfulness intervention for school teachers
This paper is an academic review of a qualitative research article written by Matthew R. and Tamar Mendelson (2014) entitled: Feasibility and preliminary outcomes of a yoga and mindfulness intervention for school teachers. Holistic Life Foundation, a nonprofit organization implemented a 6-session yoga and mindfulness program for teachers in seven urban public schools. The purpose behind the case study was to examine how the challenges of overcrowded classrooms, academic and emotionally challenged students, and lack of sufficient administrative resources effect teachers. My evaluation of this article is a holistic interpretation of a qualitative research project and is based on my understanding of this type of study. The study used seven urban schools randomly selected to either receive the intervention or to a no-intervention control condition. The participants were volunteer elementary and middle school teachers in Baltimore city public schools in low income neighbor hoods. The students test scores was the same in math, reading, and science. 21 teachers were used in the intervention and 22 teachers was used control arm. Qualitative feedback was collected, from the intervention instructors and participants. The participants also completed self-report measures of stress and burnout at baseline and post-test to provide preliminary information about intervention effects. Data collection techniques is a collaboration of observation, interviewing and data analysis (cite). Throughout the study, teachers were questioned, and observed in which the findings are outlined in the results section of the report. As finding emerge the hypotheses uncovers that the interv ...
The document summarizes and analyzes two educational studies - a quantitative study on classroom support for at-risk students, and a qualitative case study on a teacher's learning in a multicultural curriculum course. It finds that while the individual studies were effective, combining quantitative and qualitative methods would have produced stronger conclusions. A mixture of methods allows statistical correlations to be shared alongside an in-depth analysis of behaviors and interactions. The document concludes that as a new researcher, qualitative research can complement any quantitative study by providing different perspectives to draw fewer gaps in conclusions.
This document summarizes a study on students' attitudes toward research. The study found that most students had a negative attitude toward research activities and lacked capabilities and insight into research. It is recommended to improve students' knowledge and engagement with research. While students showed some knowledge of research, their attitudes were inadequate. Greater focus on research skills in the curriculum could help increase student interest. Barriers like a lack of information and support negatively impact students' research abilities. Overall, graduating students tended to have negative views of research, which is problematic if a nation aims to advance in technology and research. The instructional process should be modified to foster more positive attitudes toward research methods.

Effect of blended learning approach on student nurses’ attitudes and academic...Alexander Decker
This study examined the effects of blended learning versus traditional teaching on student nurses' attitudes, motivation, and academic achievement. 62 nursing students were randomly assigned to a blended learning or traditional lecture group. Both groups completed pre-tests of attitude, motivation, and achievement before the course. The blended learning group received instruction through online materials and face-to-face meetings, while the traditional group received only lectures. After the course, both groups took post-tests of the same measures. The results showed that the blended learning group had significantly higher attitude, motivation, and achievement scores than the traditional group after the course. The study concluded that blended learning is more effective than traditional lectures alone.

ED523 Research Analysis
Purpose:
Finding research-based instructional practices that are applicable to your unique classroom situation can inform your practice. In this assignment you will use the ERIC database in the University Library to select an article to analyze. In Unit 3, you will write a lesson plan using what you have learned from this article about your chosen instructional technique.
Directions:
Choose one instructional method that is applicable to your unique classroom situation. This can be based on what you have learned in previous courses or from your own experience. Some suggestions can be found in the Bullmaster literature review in Unit 2.
Go to the University Library to search the ERIC, Academic Search Premier, or Professional Development Collection databases and select one full text article on your chosen instructional method. Examples of possible topics might be discovery learning, scaffolding, nonlinguistic representations, cooperative learning, etc. (This topic can also be used for your Literature Review due in Unit 6. If you find several articles of interest, you might want to save them for your Literature Review.)
Write a 2-3 page paper analyzing and reflecting on the article you read. Use the following headers and discussion questions to frame your research analysis assignment.
Research Problem:
· What are the research questions? What is the hypothesis being tested?
Literature Review/ Theoretical Framework: (This will be a summary of the author’s literature review included in the article. You will not need to create a new literature review.)

Effects of in cooperating Project based Learning in the school curriculum
Introduction
Learning is determined by a number of factors, some of which are environmental related while others are not. The approach of teaching is one of the major determinants of learning as far classroom learning is concerned, however there has been a concern that the current approaches to learning are a little too abstract. Lack of real life scenarios and too much theory has been responsible for the growing apathy towards learning. It is for this reason that studies are being contacted to see if the change in tact can improve learning. One of the suggested ways is the project based learning approach which uses non fictional concepts for teaching.
Purpose of the study
The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of in cooperating project based learning in the school curriculum. The study seeks to ascertain if there is any relationship between projects based learning and the improvement in scores for students (Daniel 2012). Previous studies have shown that students are likely to improve in cases where some form of simulation or use of no fictional material. According to these, the use of non fictional approaches stimulates the students to look at issues from the reality perspective hence making it easy to internalize whatever they are learning for the sake of being able to remember, however these studies have not clearly explained the actual relationships that exist between the performance and the project based learning. There are other factors which could have in for the findings to be so, for those studies, this study would critically examine the direct impact that project based learning has on students.
Research questions
1. Will the incorporation of project based learning improve students state assessment scores as it relates to the common core state standards in comprehending non fiction text?
2. Will the inclusion of project based learning improve student application of comprehending non fictional text at a high depth of learning level?
3. How does project based learning integrate clear expectations and essential criteria and remain successful
In research, data is an important factor because it is the one which determines the findings and recommendations for the, decisions to be made (Peter 2011). The main data collection methods will be observation, interviews and artifacts, questionnaires will also be used to collect data concerning the stakeholders. Observation will be effective tools for confirming how students behave in classes, when the various approaches are used. Students will be observed in a classroom setting and comparisons be made between those classes that imp.

1) The document provides advice for doctoral students and new nursing faculty on advancing their research program, drawing on literature and the authors' experiences.
2) It discusses strategies like pursuing individual training awards, obtaining a postdoctoral fellowship, and seeking a faculty position at a research-intensive university.
3) The authors also recommend finding mentors, developing a trajectory of research productivity, and applying for career development awards to support building an independent research program.
This document provides a summary and critical analysis of a research article that examined the relationship between students' learning style preferences, teachers' instructional strategies, and academic achievement. The research found no significant correlation between these variables. It suggests that teachers primarily used visual and auditory instructional approaches that did not align with the predominantly kinesthetic learning styles of the students. As a result, the study was unable to demonstrate that matching instructional strategies to learning styles improves academic outcomes. The analysis discusses implications for incorporating greater awareness of individual student learning differences into educational practices.
The document discusses research topics, questions, and hypotheses. It provides an example of a topic on interactive whiteboards, with related research questions and hypotheses about the impact of teacher training on student test scores. It also discusses qualitative and quantitative approaches to researching the topic of weight gain in women after marriage. A qualitative approach may involve observational case studies and interviews, while a quantitative approach uses surveys to collect data on habits and assign point values to analyze common factors contributing to weight gain.
A qualitative approach may involve observational case studies to look for commonalities in behaviors and choices among married women. A quantitative approach could use observational studies and a questionnaire to assign point values to daily habits and come to a conclusion about what attributes most to weight gain.

Critical Evaluation of Four Articles On Note Taking
Critical Evaluation of Four Articles On Note Taking
Note taking is the process of recording information from another source and is an integral part of university studies. Comprehensive studies have been conducted to underline the cognitive process of note taking. This essay aims to critique four research articles pertaining to the study of note taking namely by highlighting several pros and cons of certain methodologies used, to improve future researches done on the topic of note taking.
The first article aims to examine whether the use of laptops in note taking impairs learning compared to people who were using the longhand method (Mueller & Oppenheimer, 2014). They conducted three experiments to investigate whether taking notes on a laptop versus writing longhand would affect academic performance, and to explore the potential mechanism of verbatim overlap as a proxy for the depth of processing. They used an experimental design in order to achieve a quantitative result. Using five 15 minutes TED talks lectures, the use of either laptop or longhand method for note taking as a categorical variable, and 67 participant samples from different university research subject pools, they concluded that participants using laptops were more inclined to take verbatim notes than participants using the longhand method. An overlooked procedure of this methodology is that in their first study, either one or two students were placed in an enclosed room.Mueller & Oppenheimer (2014) unknowingly made this a variable in their experiment. Additionally, typical university lectures are done in an occupied lecture hall. Mueller and Oppenheimer (2014) should have had his experiments in a lecture hall with students while testing his participants, emulating an environment similar to the real world. Doing so would increase external validity without sacrificing internal validity. Participants were taken randomly from a pool of voluntary university students, which is a good representation of the larger population for their hypothesis of the experiment. Mueller and Oppenheimer (2014) did not account for how the participants usually took notes in their classes. Instructing the participants to take down notes in a medium they are not used to could have affected their implicit processing of information, affecting results. The experimenters should have divided the participants into two separate groups based on which medium they were more comfortable in using. A third control group whereby participants did not take notes would have been beneficial to this experiment, eliminating compromising factors such as selection threats (Trochim, 2006).
The next article alleviates most of the previously stated concerns. This experiment was conducted to determine whether students’ note-taking and online chatting can influence their recalls of lecture content and note quality (Wei , Wang .

1) All of the computers purchased have been recorded in the accounting records.
2) The computers recorded as being purchased actually exist.
3) Depreciation expense has been calculated correctly
4) Laws and regulations regarding software usage have been followed (e.g., no pirated or illegal software is installed).
5) The computers are properly safeguarded from theft or unauthorized use.
Here is a helpful hint on how to go about responding to question 5.
For example let’s say you are asked to determine that the useful lives and salvage values of the computers are reasonable. A possible response would be to inquire about how the useful lives and salvage values of the computers were determined and then compare the estimated useful lives and salvage values of these computers with comparable computers used in other divisions or functional areas of the company.
Extra Credit – True/False (each question is worth 1 point)
1) Most frauds are detected by internal auditors.
2) Evidence from within the company is considered more reliable than evidence obtained from third parties
3) The internal auditor has no role in fraud prevention or detection
4) Confirmation involves examining trends and relationship among financial and non-financial data
5) Expertise within the internal auditing department is a barrier to implementing data analysis technologies

Re:Constructing 10 Strategic Points
Hello Elizabeth-
I am so glad that you worked on this over the weekend and sent it to me in advance. What you have done -- and this happens with a few students every class -- is propose an interesting future study on incivility in higher ed. However, the guidelines for this assignment limit the scope to a replication of the 2007 Clark and Springer study. This means that many of the elements of the 10 Strategic Points (e.g., problem statement, research questions, purpose statement, data colection, data analysis) should be exactly the same as the Week 2 strategic points except with a population of undergraduate psychology students and faculty.
For example, the correct phrasing of the Week 2 problem statement that I provided you was "It is not known what the possible causes and remedies are of incivility in nursing education in a university environment from both student and faculty perspectives." For the Week 5 assignment, you would use the problem statement verbatim but just change "nursing ed.

This document reviews literature on factors associated with student lateness and strategies for dealing with it. It summarizes 24 papers and reports from 1991-2013. Key findings include:
1) Common factors for student lateness include transportation issues, parenting responsibilities, low self-esteem, and anxiety. Some theorists see lateness as a personality trait.
2) One study found that 3 out of 60 students were always late due to late-night social media use, while another study found that a middle school's policies inadvertently facilitated chronic lateness.
3) Lateness is disruptive as it interrupts lessons and distracts other students. The document recommends further research to better understand lateness patterns and effective strategies for

This document summarizes a review of factors associated with student lateness and strategies for dealing with it. It reviewed 24 papers on the topic from 1991-2013. Key findings include:
1) Common factors for student lateness include poor time management, late bedtimes, family issues, cultural differences, illness, lack of consequences for lateness, fatigue, emotional challenges, and logistical issues.
2) Strategies for dealing with lateness discussed in the literature include clearly outlining attendance policies, discussing issues with students, dealing privately with disruptive students, understanding motivations, documenting incidents, and addressing problems immediately.
3) While several factors for lateness were identified, the literature on effective strategies was limited
Here are the key characteristics of correlational research:
- Shows the relationship or connection between two or more variables or factors. It indicates if a relationship exists but does not determine causation.
- Measures the extent to which two variables are related through statistical analysis. This allows researchers to predict changes in one variable based on changes in another.
- Relationships can be positive (changes in one variable correspond to changes in the same direction for the other), negative (changes correspond in opposing directions), or there may be no correlation.
- Does not describe causal relationships like experimental research or determine what specifically causes changes like descriptive research. It can only indicate a relationship exists.
Some examples of correlational research questions include examining

Ford VS ChevroletThere are many reasons that make the Chevy.docxTatianaMajor22
Ford VS Chevrolet
There are many reasons that make the Chevy’s and Ford’s motors two most common trucks. Studies reveal that that they are the most popular vehicles on sales today. It is because they are powerful, versatile and reasonably priced. They also come in a wide variety of configurations and styles. However, many buyers and sellers have questioned themselves on the better vehicle compared to the other in terms of quality, Wi-Fi, price ranges, value, and costs. To compare and contrast on this subject, let us take an example of two vehicles each from each company to facilitate comparison.
Ford offers the full-size track with automatic high-beam control, automatic parallel parking and power-retractable running boards. Fords are elegant, and they are mostly aluminum making them save weight and bolster gas mileage. None of these features are offered Chevy’s. Chevrolets have outstanding quality. They are mostly comprised of steel, for instance, the Chevrolet Silverado. This makes them good for rough roads and difficult terrains.
Fords have employed the use of up to date Wi-Fi technology. Ford intends to provide the Ford Sync, which will provide robust connections for occupants. Latest Chevrolet brands Malibu utilize the 4G LTE Wi-Fi Technology that provides rich in-vehicle experiences. This technology is powerful compared to Ford Sync, and is used for connecting devices and executing few remote operations within the car.
From the value and cost standpoint, Ford can consume a little more, and its payload capacity is a little higher. Additionally, its mileage is too better. The prices vary from nation to nation. Chevrolet seems to be a little cheaper, and reasonably priced going for $33,044, which is slightly less than Ford, but the differences are not serious to propel buyers towards one truck leaving the other
Technophiles are likely to put their preferences on Ford to Chevrolet. On overall, Fords have many features as compared Chevy’s. However, they may be hard to maintain. Compared to Fords, Chevrolets are reliable and cheaper. However, the two brands are equally good performers. It is, therefore, prudent to pick what one thinks would fit his or her usage and preference and personal style

Statement of Cash Flows—Direct Method
LEARNING OBJECTIVE
6
Prepare a statement of cash flows using the direct method.
To explain and illustrate the direct method, we will use the transactions of Computer Services Company for 2014, to prepare a statement of cash flows. Illustration 12A-1 presents information related to 2014 for Computer Services Company.
To prepare a statement of cash flows under the direct approach, we will apply the three steps outlined in Illustration 12-4.
Illustration 12A-1
Comparative balance sheets, income statement, and additional information for Computer Services Company
STEP 1: OPERATING ACTIVITIES
DETERMINE NET CASH PROVIDED/USED BY OPERATING ACTIVITIES BY CONVERTING NET INCOME FROM AN ACCRUAL BASIS TO A CASH BASIS
Under the direct method, companies compute net cash provided by operating activities by adjusting each item in the income statement from the accrual basis to the cash basis. To simplify and condense the operating activities section, companies report only major classes of operating cash receipts and cash payments. For these major classes, the difference between cash receipts and cash payments is the net cash provided by operating activities. These relationships are as shown in Illustration 12A-2.
Illustration 12A-2
Major classes of cash receipts and payments
An efficient way to apply the direct method is to analyze the items reported in the income statement in the order in which they are listed. We then determine cash receipts and cash payments related to these revenues and expenses. The following pages present the adjustments required to prepare a statement of cash flows for Computer Services Company using the direct approach.
CASH RECEIPTS FROM CUSTOMERS.
The income statement for Computer Services Company reported sales revenue from customers of $507,000. How much of that was cash receipts? To answer that, companies need to consider the change in accounts receivable during the year. When accounts receivable increase during the year, revenues on an accrual basis are higher than cash receipts from customers. Operations led to revenues, but not all of these revenues resulted in cash receipts.
To determine the amount of cash receipts, the company deducts from sales revenue the increase in accounts receivable. On the other hand, there may be a decrease in accounts receivable. That would occur if cash receipts from customers exceeded sales revenue. In that case, the company adds to sales revenue the decrease in accounts receivable. For Computer Services Company, accounts receivable decreased $10,000. Thus, cash receipts from customers were $517,000, computed as shown in Illustration 12A-3.
Illustration 12A-3
Computation of cash receipts from customers
Computer Services can also determine cash receipts from customers from an analysis of the Accounts Receivable account, as shown in Illustration 12A-4.

A review of factors associated with student’s lateness bahavior and dealing s...Alexander Decker

· What physiological changes occur in the brain due to the stress response?
· What emotional and cognitive effects might occur due to this stressful situation?
· Would the above changes (physiological, cognitive, or emotional) be any different if the same stress were being experienced by a person of the opposite sex or someone much older or younger than you?
· If the situation continues, how might your physical health be affected?
· What three behavioral strategies would you implement to reduce the effects of this stressor? Describe each strategy. Explain how each behavior could cause changes in brain physiology (e.g., exercise can raise serotonin levels).
· If you were encouraging an adult client to make the above changes, what ethical considerations would you have to keep in mind? How would you address those ethical considerations?
In addition to citing the online course and the text, you are also required to cite a minimum of four scholarly sources. For reputable web sources, look for .gov or .edu sites as opposed to .com sites. Please do not use Wikipedia.

Intercultural Communications Exercise Response Paper –
Week 5
The most overt cultural differences, such as greeting rituals and name format, can be overcome most easily. The underlying, intangible differences are very difficult to overcome. In this case, the underlying cultural differences are
· Assumptions about the purpose of the event (is the party strictly for fun and for relationship building, or are their business matters to take care of?).
· Assumptions about the purpose and the nature of business relationship.
· Assumptions about power and leadership relationships (who makes the decisions and how?).
· Response styles (verbal and nonverbal signals of agreement, disagreement, politeness, etc.).
Many (though not all) cultural differences can be overcome if you carefully observe other people, think creatively, remain flexible, and remember that your own culture is not inherently superior to others.
The Scenario
Three corporations are planning a joint venture to sponsor an international concert tour. The corporations are Decibel, an agency representing the musicians (from the US, Britain, and Japan); Images, a marketing firm which will handle sales of tickets, snacks and beverages, clothing, and CDs; and Event, a special events company which will hire the ushers, concessionaires, and security officers; print the programs; and clean up the arenas after the shows. The companies come from three different cultures: Blue, Green, and Red. Each has specific cultural traits, customs, and practices.
You are a manager in one of these companies. You will attend the opening cocktail party in Perth, Australia the evening before a 3-day meeting during which the three companies will negotiate the details of the partnership. Your management team includes a Vice President and a number of other managers.
During the 3-day meeting, the companies have the following goals:
Decibel

Discussion Question Comparison of Theories on Anxiety Disord.docxTatianaMajor22
Discussion Question:
Comparison of Theories on Anxiety Disorders
There are numerous theories that attempt to explain the development and manifestation of psychological disorders. Some researchers hold that certain disorders result from learned behaviors (behavioral theory), while other researchers believe that there is a genetic or biological basis to psychological disorders (medical model), while still others hold that psychological disorders stem from unresolved unconscious conflict (psychoanalytic theory). How would each of these theoretical viewpoints explain anxiety disorders? Does one explain the development and manifestation of anxiety disorders better than the others?

Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety disorders such as panic disorder, specific phobias, and social anxiety disorder feature a heightened autonomic nervous system response that is above and beyond what would be considered normal when faced with the object or situation that the person reacts to. For example, a person with a specific phobia of spiders (called arachnophobia) experiences a heightened autonomic response when confronted with a spider (or even an image of a spider). This anxiety response must result in significant distress or impairment. In general, anxiety disorders have been linked to underactive gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain, resulting in overexcitability of the amygdala and the anterior cingulate cortex. Additionally, genetic research shows that anxiety disorders demonstrate a clear pattern of genetic predisposition
Charles Darwin's Perspective
We talked about Charles Darwin when discussing evolution and natural selection. Darwin was also very interested in emotions. One of his books published in 1872,The Expression of Emotions in Man and Animals, was devoted to this topic.
Darwin believed that emotions play an important role in the survival of the species and result from evolutionary processes in the same way as other behaviors and psychological functions. Darwin's writing on this topic also prompted psychologists to study animal behavior as a way to better understand human behavior.
James–Lange Theory of Emotions
Modern theories of emotion can be traced to William James and Carl Lange (Pinel, 2011). William James was a renowned Harvard psychologist who is sometimes called the father of American psychology. Carl Lange was a Danish physician. James and Lange formulated the same theory of emotions independently at about the same time (1884). As a result, it is called the James–Lange theory of emotions. This theory reversed the commonsensical notion that emotions are automatic responses to events around us. Instead, it proposes that emotions are the brain's interpretation of physiological responses to emotionally provocative stimuli.

I have always liked Dustin Hoffmans style of acting, in this mov.docxTatianaMajor22
I have always liked Dustin Hoffman's style of acting, in this movie he takes on a sexually deprived young male just out of college, and has never been with a female, and is duped by horny older woman that feels neglected. Dustin Hoffman takes the characters form of a young male, goofy, respectful virgin and intelligent male, missing something but not really sure at the beginning till Ann Bancroft coaxes him with seduction to fulfill her own needs. In an other movie called "The life of Little Big Man" he plays almost the same character but as a white child raised by the Native Americans and a wise old chief that deeply care and loves him as his own, and Fay Dunaway plays a Holy rollers wife that is older and sexually deprived and feeling neglected by her husband and also she goes through major changes in her life from devoted wife, to a honey bell/ house hooker, whats funny Dustin Hoffman is a awesome actor but has to have his surrounding characters bring his character to life. The Graduate was Dustin Hoffman's first big movie of his career.
I actually liked movie "Little Big man" way better due to he went through major changes in his life, from being a Native boy warrior, captured by Yankees, meets Fay Dunaway who loves to give baths, to finding his sister who teaches him to be a gunslinger and then returns to his Grand Father to be a native again and tells his blind Grand Father the world of the white man is a crazy one, then his see the Psyho Col. Custer and gets his revenge by telling Custer the truth. The movie Little Big Man makes you laugh, teaches you things about people and survial and cry at times... its a must see...
Although a stray away from the Benjamin Braddock written about in the novel The Graduate, Dustin Hoffman does an awesome job with this character on film. When you first meet Ben he is at a party that his parents are throwing in his academic honor upon his graduation from school and return home. The whole night, Hoffman stumbles though various conversations and tries to coyly escape from the festivities. Small things such as this Hoffman did a great job at, conveying the hesitance and crisis that Ben was going through as a graduate. There are multiple times in the movie he hardly expresses anything at all, yet it clearly shows you that Ben is having a very hard time internally with everything going on. Even through his relationships with Mrs. Robinson and her daughter Elaine you see the young man struggling with himself through either failed attempts at affection or lack thereof.

If the CIO is to be valued as a strategic actor, how can he bring.docxTatianaMajor22
If the CIO is to be valued as a strategic actor, how can he bring to the table the ethos of alignment, bound to the demands of process strategic planning to move IT to the forefront of the organization's future? Is there a lack of information on strategic planning? Nope. I think the process of planning is poorly understood, and rarely endorsed. The reasons are simple enough. Planning requires a commitment of resources (time, talent, money); it requires insight; it requires a total immersion in the corporate culture. While organizations do plan, planning is invariably attached to the budget process. It is typically here that the CIO lays out his/her vision for the coming year Now a few years ago authors began writing on the value of aligning IT purpose to organizational purpose. They wrote at a time when enterprise architectural planning was fairly new, and enterprise resource management was on the lips of every executive. My view is that alignment is a natural process driven by the availability of the tools to accomplish it. Twenty years ago making sense of IT was more about processing power, and database management. We are in a new age of IT, and it is the computer that is the network, not the network as an independent self-contained exchange of information. If you will spend some time reviewing the basic materials I provided on strategic planning and alignment, we can begin our discussions for the course. Again, here is the problem I would like for us to tackle: If the CIO is to be valued as a strategic actor, how can he bring to the table the ethos of alignment, bound to the demands of process strategic planning to move IT to the forefront of the organization's future? Most of the articles I bundled together for this week are replete with tables and charts. These can be a heavy read. Your approach should be to review these articles for the "big ideas" or lessons that are take away. I think these studies are significant enough that we will conclude our first week with an understanding of the roles between executive leaders, and how they see Information Technology playing a role in shaping a business strategy.
Read the articles to answer the question. Please No Plagerism or verbatim but you are allowed to quote from the article.

I am showing below the proof of breakeven, which is fixed costs .docxTatianaMajor22
I am showing below the proof of breakeven, which is fixed costs/ contribution margin.
We start with the definition of breakeven and proceed using elementary algebra to derive the formula. Breakeven is a number and is created by knowing fixed and variable costs, and the retail sales price. It is thus not a point of discussion but is based on the assumptions of these variables.
Proof of Breakeven
Definition of BreakevenVolume: Total Revenue = Total Expenses
Definition
1.Total Revenue = Total Expenses
Breakdown of Definition
2. Retail Price * Volume = Fixed Expenses + Variable Expenses
Further Analysis
3. Retail Price * Volume = Fixed Expenses + (Volume * Unit Variable Expenses)
Subtract (Volume * Unit Variable Expenses) from both sides
4. Fixed Expenses = (Retail Price * Volume) — (Volume * Unit Variable Expenses)
Factor
5. Fixed Expenses = Volume * (Retail Price – Unit Variable Expenses)
Divide both sides by (Retail Price – Unit Variable Expenses)
6. Volume = Fixed Expenses
(Retail Price – Unit Variable Expenses)
Substitution based on Definition
7. Since (Retail Price — Unit Variable Expenses) is called Contribution Margin,
Therefore:
Breakeven Volume = Fixed Expenses / Contribution Margin

College Girls in Media
Sogand Karimi
Media and Hollywood movies have affected and influenced society’s perception on
female college students. Due to Hollywood movies and media, society mostly recognizes the
negative stereotypes of a college women. Saran Donahoo, an associate professor and education
administration of Southern Illinois University, once said, “The messages in these films
consistently emphasized college as a place where young women come to have fun, engage in
romances with young men, experiment with sex and alcohol, face dilemmas regarding body
image, and encounter difficulties in associating with other college women.” In this essay I will
be talking about the recurring stereotypes and themes portrayed in three hollywood movies,
Spring Breakers, The house bunny and Legally Blond and how these stereotypes affect our
society.
The movie Spring Breakers is about four college girls who are bored with their daily
routines and want to escape on a spring break vacation to Florida. After realizing they don’t have
enough money, they rub a local diner with fake guns and ski masks. They break the laws in order
to get down to Florida, just to break more rules and laws once they’re there. During the film, you
will notice a lot of partying, drugs and sexual activity. The four girls wear bikinis for majority of
the film and are overly sexual. These are some common themes and stereotypes seen in all three
movies. Media and movies like spring breakers have made it a norm to constantly want to party,
get drunk and have sex as a college woman. In an article by Heather Long, she mentions how the
movie can even be seen as supporting rape culture. She believes because of these stereotypes
always being shown in media, it is contributing to the “girls asking for it” excuse when it comes
to rape cases with young girls. Long also said “...never mind the fact that thousands of college
students are spending their spring break not on a beach, but volunteering with groups like Habitat
for Humanity and the United Way, especially after Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy.” THIS shows
how media only displays one side of a certain group or story. Even though not all college girls
like to party and lay on a beach naked for spring break, that’s what media likes to portray. Not
only does this give the wrong message to our society but it influences bigger issues like rape, as
the author mentioned.

families and children.
Susanna
Susanna is 15 years old. Th e city where she lives has four schools: two elementary, one
middle, and one high school. Th ere are about 1,500 students enrolled in the city/county
school district and about 450 in the local high school that Susanna is attending. For the
past six months, Susanna has been living with her boyfriend and his parents. Prior to this,
she left her mother’s home and lived on the streets. She is pregnant and her boyfriend’s
parents want her to move out of their home. Her father lives in a town with his girlfriend,
about 50 miles from the city. Her mother lives outside the city with Susanna’s baby brother.
Right now Susanna’s mother is receiving child support for the two children. Susanna wants
to have a portion of the child support so that she can find a place of her own to live. Her
mother says that the only way that Susanna can have access to that money is to move back
home. Susanna refuses to move back in with her mother.
You receive a call from the behavior specialist at Susanna’s high school. Susanna’s
mother is at the school demanding that Susanna be withdrawn from school. Susanna’s
mother indicates that Susanna will be moving in with her and will be enrolling in another
school district.
Currently Susanna is not doing very well in school. She misses school and she tells the
helper it is because she is tired and that she does not have good food to eat. She has not told
the helper that she is looking for a place to live. Right now she is failing two of her classes
and she has one B and two Ds. Her boyfriend has missed a lot of school, too.
James and Samantha
James is 10 years old and he has a sister, Samantha, who is 8. At the beginning of the
school year, both of the children were attending Boone Elementary School. Both children
live with their aunt and uncle; their parents are in prison. In the middle of the scho.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

Florida International University
2. ARTICLE CRITIQUE 2
Article Critique – Task Stream Assignment
Introduction Summary
The article I critiqued is called “Interactions Among Online
Learners: A Quantitative
Interdisciplinary Study” by Pawan Jain, Sachin Jain, and Smita
Jain, 2011. The study focuses on
the amount of interaction students have with each other and
with their professors to identify if
interaction levels differ among disciplines.
Research Problem
The major research problem identified in the study is that there
is not enough research
concerning the matter of online interaction. The majority of the
completed research is very
discipline specific and cannot be generalized. The author’s
justification for conducting the study
3. was to remedy the lack of prior research on this increasingly
important topic. The purpose is “to
fill the gap and try to understand the relationship between the
interaction and differences in
discipline;” however, the authors also noted that this was “one”
of the purposes of the study and
failed to mention any other purpose.
While the authors did not specifically discuss their decision to
utilize a quantitative
approach in this study, it was clearly justified by their need to
examine the relationship between
discipline and study interaction. The theoretical basis that is
used as the basis for this study is
that increased interaction within an online course will
ultimately lead to a better designed course
and better outcomes for students grades. Further, the authors
attest that much of the literature is
inadequate for their study due to the specificity of the studies,
disallowing them to be universally
applied.
4. ARTICLE CRITIQUE 3
The research question is “do the differences in the discipline
area impact the overall
interaction among learners as defined by the number of learner -
learner interactions?” The
hypothesis that was tested is “there is no significant
relationship between the number of learner-
learner interactions and discipline area.” The only noted
relationship that could be inferred
between the theory and the research question/hypotheses is that
there are not any studies that
have been conducted that measure said information in a way
that can be used for their purposes.
5. They note the importance of learner-learner interaction as a
major pedagogical design; however,
they continued to note the lack of available research.
METHODS SUMMARY
Measurement
The primary concepts/variables in this study were the
observations of the amount of
discussion posts by students in 39 different courses across 4
disciplines (College of Education,
College of Business, College of Arts and Sciences and the
College of Health Sciences). The
identified independent variable was the 4 categories of
discipline; the dependent variable was the
overall interactions per student per week. The conceptual or
operational definition of these
variables was not mentioned beyond the above listed
information. The authors did not address
whether the measures were valid or reliable.
Research Design
Although the authors in this study did not explicitly state the
specific research design, one
can infer the researchers used a Randomized-to Groups Pretest-
Posttest Design. Maturation
6. could be a threat to the internal validity because of the time
elapsed between the pretest and
between posttest 1 and 2. Experimenter effects could also be a
threat to internal validity because
ARTICLE CRITIQUE 4
the study does not assure the reader that experimenter bias has
not influenced the results. Subject
effects could also be a threat to internal validity. Students may
have responded differently
knowing they were part of a study. The authors did not address
whether or not the children knew
7. they were being videotaped or used for a research study, which
may have affected their behavior
and responses. Because this study only included a sample from
the majority one race/ethnic
group (White), and was not specific to the SES of the
participants, there is a clear threat to
external validity. The study may not be generalized
appropriately to a larger population.
Sampling
The population that the authors wanted to study was
interdisciplinary students enrolled in
online courses. The population from which the sample was
taken does not represent all of the
appropriate people. The sample was taken from Graduate online
courses at a major university in
the Rocky mountain region from four different disciplines. The
sample is limited in that it
excludes all students besides graduate students. There was no
mention of a specific sampling
technique that was used. I presume that it was a convenience
sample. Additionally, there was
not any address of the implications of the sampling technique
for the findings.
8. There may be issues with external validity based on the limited
population of the sample.
Since they only sampled graduate courses, it cannot be
generalized that the results would be
similar for other class levels. The difference in intensity for
graduate courses compared to
undergraduate courses is not noted as it should be.
Data Collection
The researchers collected data based on observations of the
number of discussion posts
per student per week in each course across the four disciplines.
The advantage of this data
collection is that the information from the courses was archived
and researchers needed only to
9. ARTICLE CRITIQUE 5
count the amount of discussion posts. The disadvantages to this
use of data collection include
human error in counting, as well as the lack of distinction
between quality and quantity of the
posts.
Data Analysis Critique
The data was organized using SPSS 15.0 statistical software.
Descriptive statistics were
utilized to summarize, organize and simplify the data collected
for the study Additionally, a one-
way analysis of variance was used to find the relationship
between the dependent variable and
the nominal independent variable, discipline. Follow -up tests
were conducted to analyze the
pairwise differences among the mean and Scheffe’s post hoc
comparison test was employed for
10. this purpose.
Results Critique
The major findings of the study were that “the mean number of
interactions per student
per week was 4.76; the standard deviation for this variable was
3.89” (Jain et al, 2011, p. 541).
The use of a one way analysis of variance was conducted and
concluded that “differences in
discipline accounted for 22% of the variance of the dependent
variable” (Jain et al, 2011, p.
542). The results showed that the overall interaction in Arts &
Science courses was significantly
different than the overall interaction in Health Science courses.
The interaction in Business
courses was significantly different than both, the interaction in
Health Science courses and the
interaction in education courses. But no significant differences
were found between the
interactions in Arts & Sciences courses and interaction in
Business courses and interaction in
health Science courses and between interaction in education
courses and the interaction in Arts &
Sciences courses. Overall, the health sciences courses had a
11. higher interaction rate than the rest,
leading the authors to conclude that the “interactivity in an
online class depends on the discipline
ARTICLE CRITIQUE 6
it belongs to” (Jain et al, 2011, p. 543). I am not highly
confident in the results because of the
nature of the data collection as well as the limited sample used.
Additionally, they do not
provide for a practical use.
12. Implications of the Findings Critique
The conclusions that the authors reached were that interactivity
was different based on
the discipline of the course; these conclusions are appropriate
but the author did not provide
practical implications of the study. The only implications the
author noted was that additional
research would need to be conducted. The authors did not
provide any practical information on
how the conclusions of this study could be used to further
develop courses. In my opinion, the
significance of findings was minimal for my area of interest.
Online education design and
implementation is my area of interest and I did not find this
study to be particularly helpful or
beneficial.
My Contribution
Overall the study did not provide any practical information. I
would suggest adjusting
the data collection method to include additional information
about the particular students from
whom data was being collected (Are they full time or part time?
Are they married? Do they have
13. children? Do they work? If yes, do they work part time or full
time?). The information gathered
as to which students provided higher levels of interaction would
be far more beneficial in
designing online courses. I would keep the data collection of
the graduate students, but also
expand it to include undergraduate as well. I feel it is
important to note the difference in
interaction between graduate level business courses and
undergraduate level business courses.
14. ARTICLE CRITIQUE 7
Simply knowing that there is a difference among interactions
does not provide any beneficial
information in developing courses and activities designed to
increase interaction.
The authors noted on more than one occasion the lack of
research already in this field;
however, I felt that their contribution should have been more
significant. They conducted this
study, which in my opinion, still leads to a lack of necessary
research.
Additionally, the actual layout of the information in their paper
is not easy to navigate
through. There was key information that was left out such as
the sampling technique used, as
well as any external factors that were not controllable. I would
suggest changing the layout of
the article and address key information in a clear and easy to
follow way. The independent and
dependent variables were not clearly addressed until the Results
section of the article, when they
should have been listed at the beginning of the Methods section.
The Theoretical Framework section was well laid out and the
authors did a good job of
15. defining any new terms that they used; however, they lacked a
clear connection between the
question and the theoretical framework. They were not clear as
to specifically what the
theoretical framework had to do with the questions at hand.
Further, the purpose of the study
was mentioned in the theoretical framework section as opposed
to the opening portion of the
study. The paper also noted in the theoretical framework that
said purpose was “one of the
purposes” (2011, p. 541), but another purpose was never clearly
identified. I think it is important
to lay out a clear purpose toward the beginning of the article so
that the reader can easily identify
what they will get out of the article.
As mentioned above, there was a significant lack of practical
implementations. The
results failed to provide information and suggestions on how to
move forward. They simply
suggest that interaction is good based on their theoretical
framework and that in fact there is a
16. ARTICLE CRITIQUE 8
difference in interaction amongst disciplines. I would change
the procedures of the study to be
able to provide practical uses, such as what can be done to
increase interaction for students who
have additional responsibilities such as full time jobs, spouses,
and children? Information on
when the discussion posts were completed as well as the
timeframe as to how long the students
were given to complete each post, would also be beneficial. I
also feel that information should
be provided on the length of posts, to determine if the students
in each discipline are contributing
quality comments and discussion or are they simply replying
17. with “yes, I agree”.
In conclusion, I thought that the study lacked focus, and
implications. I felt as though the
authors took the easy way out in stating that “more research was
necessary”, which is generally
true of most studies. I felt as though the authors could have
completed additional data collection
in relation to the particular students in each course as well as
expanded the study across
undergraduate courses as well. There was no mention in the
article about specifically studying
graduate students. I was disappointed in the article; I did not
feel as though I gained any
information from reading it, other than a conclusion that I could
have inferred on my own.

ISP Instructions
Use this form to develop your Individual Success Plan (ISP) for
NRS-493, the
Professional Capstone and Practicum course. An individual
success plan maps out what
you, the RN-to-BSN student, needs to accomplish in order to be
successful as you work
through this course and complete your overall program of study.
You will also share this
with your preceptor at the beginning and end of this course so
that he or she will know
what you need to accomplish.
In this ISP, you will identify all of the objectives and
assignments relating to the 100
direct clinical practice experience hours and the 25 indirect
clinical practice hours you
22. need to complete by the end of this course. Use this template to
specify the date by which
you will complete each assignment. Your plan should include a
self-assessment of how
you met all applicable GCU RN-to-BSN Domains &
Competencies (see Appendix A).

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Use the following information to ensure successful completion
of each assignment as it
pertains to deliverables due in this course:
• Use the Individual Success Plan to develop a personal plan for
completing your
clinical practice experience hours and self-assess how you will
meet the GCU RN-to-
BSN University Mission Critical Competencies and the
Programmatic Domains &
Competencies (Appendix A) related to that course.
Show all of the major deliverables in the course, the
topic/course objectives that apply to
each deliverable, and lastly, align each deliverable to the
applicable University Mission
Critical Competencies and the course-specific Domains and
23. Competencies (see Appendix
A).
Completing your ISP does not earn clinical practice experience
hours, nor does
telephone conference time, or time spent with your preceptor.
• Within the Individual Success Plan, ensure you identify all
graded course assignments
and indirect clinical assignments listed in the table on the next
page.

75. ISP Instructions
Use this form to develop your Individual Success Plan (ISP) for
NRS-493, the Professional Capstone and Practicum course. An
individual success plan maps out what you, the RN-to-BSN
student, needs to accomplish in order to be successful as you
work through this course and complete your overall program of
study. You will also share this with your preceptor at the
beginning and end of this course so that he or she will know
what you need to accomplish.
In this ISP, you will identify all of the objectives and
assignments relating to the 100 direct clinical practice
experience hours and the 25 indirect clinical practice hours you
need to complete by the end of this course. Use this template to
specify the date by which you will complete each assignment.
Your plan should include a self-assessment of how you met all
applicable GCU RN-to-BSN Domains & Competencies (see
Appendix A). General Requirements
Use the following information to ensure successful completion
of each assignment as it pertains to deliverables due in this
course:
· Use the Individual Success Plan to develop a personal plan for
completing your clinical practice experience hours and self-
assess how you will meet the GCU RN-to-BSN University
Mission Critical Competencies and the Programmatic Domains
& Competencies (Appendix A) related to that course.
Show all of the major deliverables in the course, the
topic/course objectives that apply to each deliverable, and
lastly, align each deliverable to the applicable University
Mission Critical Competencies and the course-specific Domains
and Competencies (see Appendix A).
Completing your ISP does not earn clinical practice experience
hours, nor does telephone conference time, or time spent with
your preceptor.
· Within the Individual Success Plan, ensure you identify all
graded course assignments and indirect clinical assignments
listed in the table on the next page.
