This document outlines Mel Nuttall's initial plans and reactions for a project incorporating elements of cosplay. Mel was relieved that the brief allowed for both a magazine and short film. Mel plans to create a magazine, photography portfolio, short animations, advertisements, merchandise, and incorporate photos of their own cosplays. Mel created mind maps considering the pros and cons of short films, magazines, videos, and focusing on cosplay. Mel also included mood boards showing different cosplay styles to influence the final product's varied moods and inspiration for photo styles.

2. Initial Reaction
My initial reaction was being quite relieved that the brief
was much more relaxed than I had expected, for I had been
worried than I wasn’t going to be able to choose between
making a short film or a magazine. I’d had the idea to
potentially use the theme of cosplay, since I knew that
could be broad enough to do both. But once I realised that I
could incorporate both elements into my one project, I
know that I’ll be able to add the elements of what I thought
I could do for either into one. Now I know that there is the
possibility to make:
• Magazine
• Photography portfolio
• Short animations
• Adverts/cosplay videos
• Merchandise

3. Initial Reaction
I know that the photography portfolio I will be able to
incorporate into the magazine with my own photos
since I and a few friends do our own cosplay. I know
that I am fairly skilled at photoshop and I can always
use online tutorials for that and for any animations or
videos I create in premiere or possibly even after
effects. I feel like this will be an interesting project that I
can use to create a broad range of different products
that I can do to a good quality.

Is there any repetition in the images you have collected? Repeated
colours/images styles/fonts/tone/mood
• The colours aren’t as repeated as they might have otherwise been,
since I purposefully had my mood boards to show a broad range off
different kinds of cosplay photos. And depending on the character,
the mood changes with each one too, although the general mood is
a happy one when they’re taken from a con. The staged and edited
ones seem a bit more serious and possibly more in character. That
does though depends on the style of photograph.
How will your mood board influence your final product?
• In my final products, I’ll know that I can give different moods from
pictures by how they are edited if at all and what setting the images
are taken. I can also take inspiration of what kinds of photographs
I’ll take and talk about.
