Eve Lamberg presented her doctoral research on the development of an accounting model using design-based research. The study aims to address the difficulty entrepreneurship students have with the traditional accounting cycle in the IT era. Phase 1 identified the educational problem of interchangeable use of data and information in accounting definitions. Phase 2 developed a conceptual accounting model to distinguish data, information and knowledge. Phase 3 involves iterative testing and redesign of an accounting prototype using spreadsheet software with university students. Phase 4 will reflect on results to improve the prototype.
This document proposes a model to assess the level of ubiquity in higher education institutions. It discusses key concepts around ubiquitous learning (U-learning) and trends in higher education, including the impact of technology. The proposal involves developing an educational model around ubiquitous learning scenarios. The model would evaluate institutions across three dimensions: technology, learning, and management. It suggests using a mathematical model and hyperplane to determine an institution's overall ubiquity level based on proportional development across the three dimensions. Future work is needed to define metrics, indicators for each dimension, and graphical representations in three-dimensional space.
The document discusses supporting creativity in research and academic writing at different educational levels.
At the undergraduate level, the focus should be on teaching students strategies for writing from sources and developing their own ideas. Writing at this stage is often "writing-to-learn." Feedback and practice revising first drafts based on feedback is important.
At the graduate level, students may need support through writing workshops on topics like generating ideas, writing introductions and literature reviews, and using writing groups for peer feedback.
For postgraduate students, research schools can provide writing workshops on specific dissertation writing topics and writing groups can further support the writing process. Developing a strong knowledge base is crucial for creativity, as is learning strategies for
This document summarizes a lecture about academic writing and feedback from a research study. It discusses how feedback was provided in online master's degree courses and how it influenced student learning. The study found that feedback often lacked clear goals, focused mostly on task-level comments rather than writing process or self-regulation, and did not provide explicit guidance on how to improve. Additionally, the course design did not require revisions or demonstrate how to apply feedback to new assignments. Based on these findings, changes were made to improve goal-setting, feedback quality, and promote a dialogic approach and revision practices.
This document discusses four main research paradigms: positivism, interpretivism/constructivism, critical, and pragmatic. It provides an overview of the key aspects of each paradigm, including their ontology (nature of reality), epistemology (nature of knowledge), typical research questions, and common methodologies. The document uses examples from educational technology research to illustrate different studies that fall within each paradigm. Overall, it analyzes the tradeoffs of different paradigms and argues that the choice depends on personal views, the research question, available resources, and supervisory support, with no single best approach.
The document discusses competency-based education and outlines a systemic framework. It describes key elements of competency-based education including a student-centered approach, collaborative and cooperative learning, and active student roles. The framework illustrates the relationships between students, facilitators, tutors, the professional environment, curriculum design, learning design, programs, courses, learning activities, and assignments. It positions competencies as the central focus, with integrated learning activities assessed through assignments and evaluations.
1. Dr. George Veletsianos discussed the significant opportunities and challenges facing learners, educators, and institutions with the rise of open and connected learning models like MOOCs.
2. He argued that while technologies like MOOCs are facing enthusiasm, universities are dealing with issues like funding cuts, competition, and demands for accountability.
3. Veletsianos proposed that stakeholders have an opportunity to help design the future of education through advocacy, partnerships, research, and developing learning experiences for a new era of educational technology.

The document discusses current problems and future prospects in e-teaching. It notes problematic assumptions that digital natives know how to study online and want to, and that students can study autonomously. It argues that teachers are central to knowledge construction and that their digital literacy is often basic. Reluctance to use IT comes from issues like workload and lack of support. Future prospects include improving computer literacy for teachers and students, developing materials through expert centers, and redefining teaching roles and workloads to better support e-teaching.
