This document summarizes the results of running various DNS queries and examining the corresponding DNS responses using Wireshark. It finds: 1) DNS queries are sent over UDP with destination port 53 and responses use source port 53. Queries are sent to the local DNS server and sometimes authoritative nameservers. 2) Responses contain answers providing the host name, record type, class, TTL, data length and IP address(es) corresponding to the query. 3) Subsequent TCP connections are made to IP addresses resolved in earlier DNS responses. Additional DNS queries are not needed to retrieve page objects.
