Don Benito
Don Benito is situated in the south-west
of Spain, in Extremadura, near Portugal. It is in
the High Meadow of the river Guadiana, in the
province of Badajoz. It has got a population of
38,000 inhabitants.
Its climate is subtropical. Winters are
mild and summers are dry and hot..
In the centre and in the north of
Extremadura, plains and mountains are the most
common geographical features.

San Sebastián Church: Don
Benito was created around it .
Virgen de las Cruces Chapel:
the Patron Saint of the city, on
12th October we celebrate the
festival of “La Velá”.
Plaza de España, in the centre of the city.
There, you can find the
town council…
… a fountain, which
represents a man and a
woman as a symbol of the
earth and the river
Guadiana.
… Santiago’s Church,
16th-17th century
Casa de Cultura (House of
Culture), a building designed by
the famous architect Rafael
Moneo. Inside, you can find the
municipal library, the tourist
offfice, a gallery and an
exhibition hall.
Ethnographic (an old Palace-House that
belonged to the Counts of Los Campos de
Orellana)
Ave María Art School, a
cultural place where there
are musical performances
and artist exhibitions.
Nowadays it is the head
office of the Don Benito
Municipal Band.
Pictures from the city: an open shopping centre, Red Square and the
Municipal Park.
Railway Station
FEVAL, trade fair of Don Benito, where products from
Extremadura and other regions are shown during the whole
year.

Our school:
“Donoso Cortés” Secondary School
Juan Donoso Cortés, Marquess of Valdegamas, was a
very important thinker, politician and Spanish writer in
the 19th century.
The school was built during the school year 1955-56. The
current building was opened in 1967.
At the beginnning, the school
was only for male students. In
the school year 1965-66 it
started to be a coeducational
school.
In our school you can find:
Secondary education (4 years)
Bachillerato (High School -2 years):
• Natural Science and Health
• Humanities and Social Science
• Intermadiate Level Module: “Resources of
Computer Systems” (2 years)
• Upper Level Module: “Applications and Computer
Development” (2 years)
European projects:
Erasmus+
• K102 for students of Intermadiate Level Module:
“Resources of Computer Systems and Networks”
• KA103 for students Upper Level Module:
“Applications and Computer Development”
• KA219 for secondary students The school we
like to learn in.
Programmes of high school dropout
prevention:
Curricular Diversification: for students who retake
the 2nd or 3rd year of Secondary with learning
difficulties (not Special Education Needs)
Improvement Programme of Learning and
Reinforcement: for students who have taken the 2nd,
3rd or 4th year of Secondary with learning difficulties
(regardless prior school history) not attributable to
lack of relevant study or learning difficulties effort
Basic Vocational School: for students who had
finished the 3rd year of secondary and older than 15
years old
Programmes of high school dropout
prevention:
Stimulus: for secondary students with difficulties in
Spanish, Maths
REMA Programme : for students of 1st, 2nd or 3rd
year of secondary school with learning difficulties
because of the socio-economic conditions of their
families
