Conformity Influence The Way People Conform
Factors that Influence People to Conform
Conformity is the act of matching attitudes, beliefs, and and. behaviors to .group. norms(Boundless,
2014). Simplifying it; Crutchfield in 1995 is quoted .saying that conformity is basically labeled as
yielding to group pressures (McLeod, 2007). The majority of people conform to their surrounding
standards without even noticing it(Advameg, 2014). Conforming is not necessarily bad or good.
Advameg (2014) gives the example of how people stop at a red light even though a law enforcer may
not be around. A small amount of conformity is required to have an organized society(Boundless,
2014). However the view of conformity is .distinct .from .nation to nation. Since conventionality does
exist everywhere, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this particular experiment, partakers were asked to choose a line that matched the size of one of
three different lines (Myers DeWall, 2014). Typically the participants would answer correctly,
choosing the string that was identical. During one query the two confederates involved in the project
would deliberately choose the wrong answer. Consequently during the same question, around thirty
three percent of participants conformed to the confederate s response one time or more (Cherry, 2013).
The thing that makes these results different from informational conformity is that the correct answer
was obvious. Solomon s project is an excellent case in point of normative influence. Normative
influence is Yielding to group pressure because a person wants to fit in with the group (McLeod,
2007). Solomon Asch s experiment also gave insight of why people conform. (Myers DeWall, 2014)
People conform when they feel inept, or in a group where every person has the same opinion. If
another person agrees the results are different (Myers DeWall, 2014). Solomon Asch also observed
how people displayed extreme discomfort when confronted with the decision to disagree with the
group (Myers DeWall, 2014). Solomon Asch s project showed signs of several conformity factors.
First on the list is unanimity. More people conform in situations where the group s response is
undisputed (Boundless, 2014). Groups high in cohesion

Globalization Is The Increasing Inter Connectedness Of...
1. Globalization is defined in the book as the increasing inter connectedness of people and places
through converging economic, political, and cultural activities. Cultures and countries are now linked
much more than they used to be in the past as technology continues to grow. It s becoming cheaper
and easier to set up technology in lesser developed countries as well as that it continues to grow in
more developed countries. Fast food restaurants are now changing and transferring to other countries
and changing the menu to the culture of that country in an attempt to make more money. These
restaurants from America transferring to other countries are causing diets to become unhealthy much
as they have in America. Most American s don t go a week without eating at some fast food restaurant.
Western consumerist culture has also transferred. America is absolutely infatuated with spending to
get what they think they need when in actuality they don t. Most scholars believe that economic
organization is a large part of globalization. It includes global communications that link all people. It
also includes better transportation systems, transnational business strategies, and promotion of free
trade. There are many positives to globalization. One of which is more money being put into lesser
developed countries. This is a plus because this causes people in those countries to be able to succeed
and support themselves. Also governments of different countries can better work together

Analysis Of Boo Radley
He just might be watching all the townspeople through their windows. Staring in the dark night. All
anyone knows of him is what they have heard through rumors. Is all the gossip true, or is Boo Radley
just a tall tale? In literature, authors use dynamic characters to leave readers asking questions and
wanting more. Similar to how Harper Lee uses Boo Radley in her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, to
display tension throughout the story, by having him slowly transform from an ominous monster, to a
true mystery, and eventually, a hero. From the start of the novel, Boo is automatically perceived as a
horrific beast that preys on the innocent people of Maycomb County, yet everything anyone knows of
the man is based off speculation. For instance, the narrator provides her questionable knowledge of
Boo when she informs readers that he is, a malevolent phantom that is auspiciously known for lurking
in the night to [peep] in [residents] windows (Lee 10). If this rumor about Boo is true, readers should
have a growing concern for all the people in the town, especially because no one has a clue what Boo
s appearance resembles. He has not left his home in the light of day for countless years. This man
could be real trouble. Later, rumors seem to be confirmed by town gossip, Miss Stephanie Crawford
when she recalls a time when she awoke in the middle of the night to find Boo s skull of a face staring
right at her through her window (Lee 16). Even though Miss Stephanie is known to be

Jeff Jacoby s Bring Back Flogging Essay
Jeff Jacoby s Bring Back Flogging
This essay by Jeff Jacoby illustrates an authors use of ironic sarcasm otherwise known as satire to
defend and illustrate his platform on his position. Jacoby uses in this essay verbal irony (persuasion in
the form of ridicule). In the irony of this sort there is a contrast between what is said and what is
meant.
Jacoby s claim in simple is he believes that flogging should be brought back to replace the more
standard conventional method of the imprisonment of violent and non violent offenders. His grounds
for the revival of flogging stems back to his initial mention of the Puritan punishment system. He cites
how in 1632 Richard Hopkins was Flogged and branded for selling guns and weapons ... Show more

Jacoby s argument of flogging attempts to show how it can be more productive over the conventional
method of punishment seemingly the only way, imprisonment. His beliefs are that public whippings
will prevent youths and first time offenders from becoming lifelong felons. The benefits deduced from
his argument for flogging assuming it proves to be conclusive would be such. Lowering the rate of
felons in jail, freeing up space for the more violent offenders. The appalling estimated amount of thirty
thousand a year per inmate would be saved. A public whipping would not be associated with respect
and sign of manhood or status symbol that prison serves for many offenders. Flogging he believes
would deter many of the first time offenders and youth along with preventing them from being repeat
and long time offenders. The pain, scars, and embarrassment of public whippings would far exceed the
value or risk reward benefit of doing a petty crime thus forcing people to think about their actions
before they did it. Jacoby contends that he is unsure whether being whipped is more degrading that
being caged. At the end of his essay he draws attention to the point of the terrible risk of being raped
in prison as an argument in favor of replacing imprisonment with flogging.
I think that Jacoby appeals to the readers sense of sympathy for the wrongly

Invasive Mycoses Research Paper
Invasive Mycoses
Fungi have emerged over the past several decades as major contributors to human disease.(1, 2) As
populations of immunocompromised and/or hospitalized patients continue to increase, so will the
incidence of invasive fungal infections. A recent study reported that fungemia in the United States
increased by 207% between 1979 and 2000.(3) Moreover, as the populations at risk for fungal
infection continue to expand, so will the spectrum of pathogens capable of infecting those individuals.
Invasive mycoses may be categorized as i) opportunistic or ii) endemic. Endemic infections, which are
generally confined to specific geographic regions, are most often acquired via inhalation of spores.
Infective agents include, but are not limited to, Histoplasma capulsatum, Coccidioides immitis, and
Blastomyces dermatitidis. These infections frequently mimic common pulmonary infections in initial
stages and are therefore often misdiagnosed. Dissemination and advanced disease follow. Dormancy
may also occur, with reactivation of infection years later. This leads to diagnosis in a geographic
regions outside of the high risk area.(4, 5)

begins and continues as the biofilm matures. This matrix is composed primarily of carbohydrates,
which differs from the protein rich matrix of the C. albicans biofilm. As the biofilm grows, non

Romanov Dynasty Swot Analysis
The Romanov Dynasty I. The Romanov Dynasty Background Beginning in 1613, the Romanov
Dynasty has become one of Russia s most known. During the Romanov reign, Russia not only
became, but remained a European powerhouse. The powerful three century reign continued until Tsar
Nicholas II abdication in 1917. In 1918, the Romanov family consisting of Tsar Nicholas II, Tsarina
Alexandra, and their five children were all executed. Nearly a century after their deaths, the Romanov
line is still highly mentioned and speculated today. II. The Bolsheviks Background After permanently

This meant getting rid of any threat that could potentially take them down. Having no problem with
executing any and everyone who could stop them, they devised a plan to kill off the Romanov family
line. Not only did they plan to kill Tsar Nicholas II and his wife Tsarina Alexander, they planned to kill
their children to make sure there was no chance of a Romanov ever taking power again. On July 17th,
1918 the Romanovs were all executed by the Bolshevik troops. Most were killed by a plethora of
bullets fired into a small room. It is rumored that some were beaten, tortured, and raped before
meeting their final fate. Many versions and rumors of the Romanov execution still run rapid today.
One of the most famous rumors regarding the execution is the survival of Grand Duchess Anastasia.
For years, many people around the world debated rather Grand Duchess Anastasia survived the brutal
execution or was killed along with her family. If Grand Duchess Anastasia was alive this meant she
would inherit everything left behind, this caused many imposters to surface. Unfortunately, any
speculation of her survival has been proven false due to DNA evidence. Even after tests have proven
Anastasia died during the execution, many people still choose to believe she survived. I choose to side
with the conclusion that she in fact did not survive. As sad as it is to accept that none of the Romanov
family survived the brutal execution, DNA has proven that it was not possible for

What Are The Similarities Between Scientology And...
Religious intolerance and Scientology
The world can be a dangerous place. It can be even more dangerous if someone proves to be different,
or seen as unusual in any way. Scientology may be arguably one of the strangest religions in the
world. Because of this, Scientology has experienced intolerance since it was first founded in 1954.
Religious intolerance is a social issue, and affects every level of the religious community, from the
followers to the conductors of Scientology. Widespread intolerance has always been a problem for
Scientology for many reasons. Religious intolerance has always re an extremely serious issue which
faces all religions of the world. However, the practice became popularized when monotheistic

However, there is a catch! Every single one of these alleged victims of the religion have all been
kicked out of Scientology, in a sense. Can someone really be a reliable source for such information
with that kind of bias? It doesn t make any difference at this point. Many Americans have heard her

because they have a history with Scientology at all. The guests have made many terrible and overall
baseless claims against Scientology. Just because someone has a history, doesn t automatically mean it
is a good one. Scientology has tried as hard as possible to bring this to light. The community started
by writing letters to the channel the show airs on, A E. Scientology named every lie she told, as well as
the history the people she had on her show truly had with Scientology (Jensen). To find these letters

Shel Silverstein The Giving Tree Analysis
The Giving tree by Shel Silverstein is an elementary level children s book with illustrations. The book
is about a young boy and his relationship with a tree throughout his life. The tree is always giving him
something to make him happy and fulfill his needs. The tree never complains and is always happy to
help the boy. As the boy grows older he finds different uses for the tree. At the beginning of the story,
the young boy and the tree are very close but as he gets older he grows apart from the tree and only
visits when he s in need of something. I personally love this book a lot. This story can have many

This line also makes me feel anxious and a little sad because i feel that the tone foreshadows sorrow.
As the story goes on it in fact is a little sad because the young boy decided to go on and discover
bigger, better things in life and he always forgets about the tree that loves him so much. This reminds
me of when kids are in their teens years, how we are too busy trying to fit in amongst our peers and try
new things. We are so caught up in other activities that we tend to forget about our parents and we
give more importance to other things and end up taking our parents for granted. Regardless of how the
boy neglects the tree that anxiously waits for him daily, the tree never holds a grudge because of how
strong the love is. The tree is always so excited to see the boy whenever he visits but the boy doesn t
feel the same way. Come Boy, come and climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and eat
apples and play in my shade and be happy! I am too big to climb and play said the boy. He always
asked the tree for something each time he visits and without hesitation the tree gives him every part of
itself but the young boy is still never

A Woman s Descent Into Madness
Shayna Pospisil

English 112
29 April 2015
A women s descent into madness Hamlet is praised as one of the greatest literary works ever written
but unlike the title, many characters play key roles in the development of the story and his progression
towards revenge induced madness. One such character is Hamlet s lover Ophelia. She is a pivotal
character in the effectiveness as well as execution of the plot for revenge. One fact that is commonly
short sited is the relationship Ophelia has with Hamlet and how that ultimately affects his road
towards revenge. Without Ophelia there is no Hamlet. Ophelia s innocence, lack of knowledge and
ignorance, and weakness of the mind all play a key role in not only her own but also Hamlet s demise.
One of the most talked about subjects in the play itself is Ophelia s innocence of purity. Because
Hamlet was going to Denmark a relationship with Ophelia would never work therefore her father felt
the intense need to protect her innocence. Any kind of relationship would be detrimental to not only
Ophelia but her family as well. If Ophelia were to lose her purity before marriage she would no longer
be desirable to any other man because she would be used goods . That would reflect not only on
herself but on her family. Another interesting point is just how protective her brother Laertes is of her
virtue. In Act I, Laertes gives advice to Ophelia on the pitfalls of a pre marital relationship in a lengthy
speech that s geared

The National Minimum Drinking Age Act Of 1984
Replacing the Old Fashion Around the world new adults are flaunting their new found responsibilities
consuming alcohol at the average age of 18. However, unlike most countries in the world the United
States has determined to establish their drinking age to be set at 21 years of age. This antiquated
position is unjust to many young American adults. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984
should be revised and reconstituted to the legal age of 18. To provide a more suitable America that is
secure and reasonable for all young adults. The drinking age needs to be lowered so that it can reduce
traffic fatalities, reduce binge drinking, and allow young adults to understand an old ongoing tradition.
It s time to reconsider the drinking age to allow a safer environment for everyone. Drinking and
driving is still a problem today, and can even be seen in young adults. The National Minimum
Drinking Age Act of 1984 was instituted to reduce drunk driving. According to Michelle Minton, a
fellow in consumer policy studies at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, states due to this act ages of
18 and 21 actually increased traffic fatalities of those between the ages of 18 and 24 by three percent.
(Minton 22). Having an increase of three percent in traffic fatalities is by no means a small portion of
the total deaths, with just an increase of three percent, many more young American adults have passed
away, which could have easily been prevented. Even Anne McCartt, a vice president

Jewish Folk Dance As A Means Of Creating A New Israeli...
Jewish national identity was colonized when Jewish people were forced out of ancient Israel and
dispersed to various different nations. Anti Semitism was one of the principle means for this
colonization because it made it dangerous for Jewish people to express their own national identity in
the European nations they dispersed to. As a result, certain traditions, like Jewish folk dance, which
were not codified, were lost. Jewish folk dance also disappeared because folk traditions are strongly
connected to the land in which they originated and the majority of Jews left Israel. Furthermore,
because of the third commandant of the Torah, Jews were not allowed to depict images of their dance.
Consequently, their traditional dance was lost forever. However, when the Jews returned to Israel in
the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they found it important to recreate traditions like folk dance to
reassert their fractured nationhood after so many years of diaspora. Thus, Israeli folk dance was a
means of creating a new Israeli culture.
Israeli folk dance was created by using elements from other dance cultures with themes and music of
modern Israel. In this paper, I will argue that while anti Semitism resulted in the colonization of
Jewish national identity, women re created Israeli folk dance as a means to establish a new Jewish
identity, as well as an identity for themselves. By focusing on Romania and Yemen, we will identify
the vestiges of colonialism in Israeli folk dance, and

The Death Of Ivan And By Leo Tolstoy
In The Death of Ivan Ilych , Leo Tolstoy purposely focuses on Gerasim, the assistants Butler, to
establish a transformation in Ivan Ilych that makes him realize the true meaning of life. Gerasim is
used as an important tool through the events that lead up until Ivan s death. Through Gerasim, the
author conveys the themes of death, family, and propriety by emphasizing the impact that he brings
upon Ivan s life. Gerasim acts as a guide in the shift of Ivan s perception by helping Ivan change his
views and perspective towards death which no other person could have done if Gerasim was removed
from the novelette.
Ivan Ilych does not live his last years before death to his fullest potential and it is as if he is not living
at all. Ivan can not bring himself to accept death because he believes he does not deserve to die and
questions why this is happening to him. Ivan is not ready to face death so soon since his life is going
as planned. Ivan is lying to himself about him dying and tries to avoid the word death by saying it, He
went to his study, lay down, and once again was left alone with it. Face to face with It, unable to do
anything with It. Simply look at It and grow numb with horror (Tolstoy 80). Ivan is referring to death
as it because he can not fully grasp the idea that death is really and seriously a lot closer than he
expected. Instead of Ivan living each remaining years like it is his last, he makes himself miserable
and depressed by the thought of dying.

Analysis Of The Poem
The Deformity
The bright lights and unknown voices travelled around me. It surly wasn t the first time I had
experienced this, but it was the first time I could actually recognize what was going on. They tried to
ease my nervousness with their soothing words, but being so anxious nothing could soothe me.
It all started at birth. My deformity was nothing new to the medical world, but in my parent s eyes it
was something out of fiction. My feet were turned in like hockey sticks. In medical jargon it is noted
as club foot which is a perfect description. But of course my parents being who they are dismissed my
quark and accepted me and fell in love. This could be said about the rest of my family too, but when
they finally were able to conceive what was actually occurring they became weary and quite sad,
especially my grandfather. When he first picked me up he took me to the corner seat of the hospital
room and cried. But, his fear and sadness did come with love and acceptance.
At the age of one I received my first surgery. Being June, the temperature was excruciating which only
made things worse for my casts and me. The sweat would drip down my legs and into the crevasses
where I could not reach. The moisture would sit in the cloth for days and my wounds would itch
tremendously. After the removal of the casts learning to walk was difficult, but being a child it came
quickly.
In elementary school the problem reoccurred and my ligaments began to shorten again. This was

Abstract
Mental illness is an area that many people are uncomfortable with. There is something suspicious
about people who tend to appear mentally ill. This creates nervousness, fear, while presenting the
unknown; therefore, Stigma. Now Stigma is defined as disgrace or public disapproval, which can lead
to the devaluation of a person. Because of the stigma and devaluation it creates significant barriers for
those targeted simply because of their mental status, such as fear, doubt, shame, and isolation. People
are being labeled; they are seen as being mentally ill instead of having a mental illness. The purpose of
this paper is to present the documented effects of the stigma associational with having the mental
illness Schizophrenia by providing research from the field of Psychology, Sociology, and Mental

Chuang Tzu s Basic Writings Essay
Chuang Tzu s Basic Writings, with his idea of the way which is effortless and ineffable, seem to
suggest a minimalist take on government. The Daoist philosophy present in the text has no room for
organized hierarchy or unified morality in the understanding of the world. This leaves no room for
government whose laws and bureaucracy are based on codified morality and hierarchy. The
government must also allow its citizens to practice the wu wei, which means the government would
have to allow individual freedom. Thus the only suitable form of government following the way
would be a limited structure emphasizing individual morality essentially a libertarian form of
government. There is a lack of hierarchy in Chuang Tzu s Daoism due to the belief in the
indistinguishable position of the individual to the rest of humanity and humanity to all the world. This
is evident in The Dream and The Butterfly in which Chuang Tzu shows that the perspective of a
human is no truer than the perspective of a butterfly. In the fable, Chuang Tzu s questioning of which
organism is the reality and which is the dream blurs the distinction between humanity and nature. This
is consistent with Chuang Tzu s belief that humanity is one with nature, meaning that human
government should reflect the form of hierarchy present in the natural world. Such a belief in the most
natural sense of hierarchy would at first suggest that the way is a path of egalitarianism; however, this
belief that, in nature,

Social Media And Electronic Communication
Communication
Electronic communication technologies influence the social development of adolescents in several
ways including interpersonal communication, and emphasized that interpersonal communications are
depersonalized because adolescent now conduct a higher proportion of communication electronically
rather than face to face or voice to voice. (Subrahmanyam greenfield, 2008). Any type technology to
communicate with others, such as cell phones, instant messaging, and social networking sites, it
deprives any visual or auditory cues of facial expression, body language, and voice dynamics (Cyr,
Berman, Smith, 2014). Interpersonal relationship problems arise when messages on either end are
misunderstood (Erozkan, 2013).
When adolescents communicate face to face, it provides an adequate tone of voice, therefore the
message is more clearly, in contrast, when using social media, the reader may misinterpret the
message. Erozkan (2013) emphasized that without effective communication, a message can turn into
error, misunderstanding, or frustration. Communication is the basis of personal relationships and
effective communication happens when the message that is sent is the same message that is received
(Erozkan, 2013). This can cause differences in relationships as interactions face to face are necessary.
Although face to face interactions provides more meaning to relationships, adolescents opt to use their
electronic communication. Some adolescents might be more expressive

Rights, Laws, and Policies for Children with Special Needs
In 2006 and 2007 over 6.5 million children (13.6 percent) enrolled in public schools in the U.S. were
identified as children with disabilities or special needs (Ben Porath, 2012, p. 25). Current legislation,
such as the Individuals with disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA), is designed to
ensure these students get appropriate education in an environment that is inclusive and the least
restrictive possible. This best environment for students with special needs is not a physical place, but
represents a philosophy to guide practitioners in supporting equity for all children (Darragh, 2007, p.
167). The equity does not mean that every child gets the same thing, but that each individual gets what
is needed to be successful in school. There is, to some extent, a paradox. Students with special needs
must be treated as individuals so their specific challenges can be addressed, and yet they must also be

Satisfying the mandates on both sides of the paradox requires sensitivity, skill, and understanding of
laws, policies, and the rights of the individuals involved. There are four laws in the U.S. that are
important to understand as they relate to children with special needs: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation

During 1953 1957 the United State was busily making collective security arrangements in an attempt
to recruit Allies for her confrontation with the communist camp. In south east Asia the United State
sponsor and encouraged the formation of SEATO (The South East Asian Treaty Organization) and
CENTO (The Central Treaty Organization).
The arrangement was originally viewed by the United States Thailand as underpinning the inherently
with Geneva agreement which recognized the communist ruled North Vietnam. CENTO also began as
a regional security grouping at the behest of Iraq and Britain, but the participation of those northern
states of Asia sharing frontiers with the Soviet Union such as Iran, Turkey, Pakistan and the
reinsurance, as it were, provided by the United Sates, made CENTO no less than SEATO, a US
weapon against her Global adversary, Soviet Union.
The birth of Bangladesh the first state to be born in blood and fire in a polycentric world has been a
unique case, as the following analysis shows. There is hypothesis that political factors, rather than
economic, ethnic and cultural one, were catalyst of Bangladesh revolution.

From autonomy to secession

International Standard For Quality Management Systems
Introduction
This document is an overview of the ISO 9001:2008 international standard for quality management
systems developed by the International Organization for Standardization with the intent to give
specific requirements to companies and organizations on methods to enhance customer satisfaction
and meet statutory and regulatory requirements by improving effectiveness and performance of their
quality management systems. The overview will cover the requirement, certification procedures and
benefits of ISO9001 certification.
History
Quality management systems owe their basis to the the military industry. In fact the origins of
ISO9000 series of standards dates back to fifties, during the development of a nuclear submarine in
the US which had issues with contractors causing delays and quality breakdowns. As the result of the
research of that project the foundations of quality management were developed and other important
military standards were born such as NASA s and British Defence s quality management standards. In
1971 the British Standard Institute applied a QMS to electronics industry with the BS 9000 and, later
on, in the manufacturing industry in 1979,publishing the BS 5750 from which the ISO9000 series of
standard, published in 1987, is heavily based. After its revision in 1994 the ISO 9000 added separate
ISO 9001, 9002 and 9003 standards for different industries becoming the reference quality
management system standard in different nations and

The Symposium And The Bhagavad Gita Essay
Paper Assignment 2 Prompt 1
When it comes to the subject of love and desire, it would seem that The Symposium and The
Bhagavad Gita disagree as to whether those qualities are beneficial to achieving spirituality or
detrimental. In the Symposium, Plato states that desire is part of the pathway to achieving spirituality.
By contrast, the unnamed author of the Bhagavad Gita seems to state that desire is an obstacle in the
pathway to achieving divinity. Their perspectives can seen through their texts that connect of love to
the divine, Plato s way of reaching divinity and the way of reaching divinity that is mentioned in the
Hindu scripture of The Bhagavad Gita. Through the readings of The Bhagavad Gita and The
Symposium, it is clear that love and desire seems to be a asset to fulfilling one s divinity rather than an
obstacle.
An important part of the subject is that in both The Symposium and The Bhagavad Gita, love is seen
as sort of a divine force. At the setting of the Symposium, Plato, through the speeches of the other
great minds at the Symposium, introduces the possible concepts that Love might be a God that is one
of the beautiful gods of all. However, according to Plato, love is neither a god nor human, but He is a
great spirit, Socrates. Everything classed as a spirit falls between god and human (Plato 38). This
quote is crucial to the rest of the content of The Symposium because by saying that Love falls in
between the status of gods and humans, Plato is able to

A Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
In the world of sex, drugs, and baby cloning you are going to be in many situations where you feel
like the world we live in should be different. In the story Brave New World, they had sex with
multiple partners along with a very bad use of drugs.
It is weird that Aldous Huxley wrote this book in 1931 about the world he was living in during that
time and how it is similar to the world we live in today. Nowadays, drugs are still being used and
people are still engaging in sexual encounters with multiple partners. Things are no different than they
use to be. People still to this day are using drugs and committing adultery as if there aren t any
diseases out there. In the story they introduced a drug named Soma. This particular drug was the
narcotic they used to escape the world they lived in.
Aldous Huxley did not like being in London because he felt the people there were basically all the
same. Aldous Huxley was characterized by people as being very weird to people because he didn t like
to do the things they did. He became so weird to people that the press and news reporters became
interested in talking to him in order to find out more about him. I have a connection with this
particular story because the world I m living in today is based on the same things he described.
Sex is the main thing teenagers care about nowadays. In my generation kids look at you funny or think
you are weird if you do not have sex or have sex as often as they do. It seems as if people

Supremacy
1) There is a drear and lonely tract of hell
2) From all the common gloom removed afar:
3) A flat, sad land it is, where shadows are,
4) Whose lorn estate my verse may never tell.
5) I walked among them and I knew them well:

9) But as I went majestic on my way,
10) Into the dark they vanished, one by one,

The Man Who Died Twice and Tristram The last two of these won Pulitzer Prizes in 1925 and 1927,
when he was elected as a member of the National Academy of Arts and Letters.
Robinson never married but enjoyed the company of many friends. He died of cancer in hospital in
New York on April 6, 1935. A few of his most known poems are, The Children of the Night Captain
Craig The Town Down the River The Man against the Sky The Three Taverns and Avon s Harvest. He
had 3 Pulitzer prizes awarded to him.
For the first twenty years of Robinson s writing career, he had difficulty in getting published and
attracting an audience. He published his first two volumes privately and friends secretly guaranteed
the publication of the third. He did receive positive reviews from the beginning, however, and with the
publication of The Man Against the Sky in 1916 his reputation was secure.
For the rest of his life he was widely regarded as quot;America s foremost poet, quot; as William
Stanley Braithwaite put it. Both academics and the general public held him in high esteem, as attested
by the fact of his winning three Pulitzer Prizes for poetry for volumes published in 1921, 1924, and
1927, when his Tristram became a national best seller.
Although Robinson s subject matter and philosophical stance differ markedly from that of his
predecessors , his form

Transhumanism In Eugenics
In Francis Galton s Eugenics: Its Definition, Scope, and Aims the purpose of eugenics is to improve
the human race. Eugenicists view the undesirable qualities in a population as aspects of humanity that
can be improved upon and developed through the careful regulation of breeding within a society. If the
breeding of specific traits were to be controlled, the best possible offspring would be produced. The
desire to improve the human race is a theme also found in Nick Bostrom s Transhumanist Values and
The Transhumanist FAQ. The purpose of transhumanism is to enhance humans through the use of
technology and other means. Transhumanists want to evolve the human race into a posthuman form
that has greater capacities than humans currently obtain. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is accomplished through the sterilization of those who are considered inferior. If only superior
humans breed, the rising generations of people will continue to improve, resulting in the improvement
of the society as a whole. The determination of an individual s worth leaves too much room for
opinion, resulting in an increased risk that eugenics will be abused by those with racials biases.
Transhumanists view the purpose of transhumanism as being the enhancement of the human race
through highly regulated research/clinical trials and equal opportunity for all races and classes of
people to have access to the technology being used. The careful control of technological advances and
the focus on all classes and types of people leaves very little room for the ideology to be abused by
those with any kind of racial biases. Both eugenics and transhumanism want to improve the human
race in one way or another, but they vary in the execution of their ideals. Eugenicists scarcely
acknowledged that their ideology could be misused and did not provide safeguards in case it were to
be misused. Transhumanists fully acknowledge the risks involved with their ideology and carefully
designed their ideology so as to have preventive measures in place in case it were to

The Human Need For Realistic Representations
When photographs and film were first invented it was seen as a means for capturing reality. They
would replace paintings in the role of capturing reality, due to the ability to capture pictures in real
time. In class we discussed about the idea that artists may choose to omit a part of a portrait that is not
representative of the person being depicted (such as a random strand of hair standing up).
Additionally, a random ray of light may draw attention to something in the real world that may also
not be of great importance to the person in question. These same problems are things that can arise in
movies and rather than having the viewer interpret and figure out what is being shown, the director
can take on these responsibilities through the use of camera angles, multiple cuts, editing, artificial
lighting, and the use of professional actors who can portray the director s vision of the characters.
Bazin identifies cinema as the human need for realistic representations. Bazin is a believer in realism
and explains the elements of realism consisting of long takes, deep focus, limited editing, and the use
of non professional or relatively unknown actors (De Sica, Metteur En Scene, p.65). Though realism
does have its place in filmmaking, it would fail to take advantage of the artistic gifts and skills of the
director to show what he envisions the film to be. After considering both sides carefully, I have come
to the conclusion that the formalist approach to filmmaking is

Wally Pfister s Techniques In The Film Inept Inception
not until the van falls of the bridge that the audience is presented with the rest of the stages. I cannot
imagine how hard it had to be for Nolan to narrate the story concisely and smoothly at the same time.
Roger Ebert commented on his review for the film that we have to trust him (Nolan) that he can lead
us through, because much of the time we are lost and disoriented. I, personally, did not feel that way.
Of course, a lot of credit has to be given to the cinematographer too. Wally Pfister used subtle but
effective techniques to simplify a little the complex nature of the story. In order to prove my point, let
me give an example.
In order to help the audience to seamlessly identify the dream levels where the different stages of the
plan were takin g place, Pfister gave each level a particular color tone. The first level, where the
abduction takes place, has a fairly neutral tone to it; everything looks normal. The second level, most
of the action develops in the hotel hallway, the lighting and furniture provide a warmth tone; and the
third level, where they penetrate the mountain fortress, has a cool tone to enhance its already sterile
ambient.
Pfister certainly contributed to the beauty and creativeness of the film. It is no surprise his work on
Inception earned him the Academy Award for Best Cinematography. Among many of the scenes that

movie, but I do not want to spoil the movie for you; therefore I will address this point of view as a
post review comment. I recommend you to watch the movie first, and then come back to read the rest

Restorative Justice In Australia

Restorative Justice

Restorative justice refers to those practices, which require offenders to acknowledge their
wrongdoings, and in turn give back to those affected victims or communities. The main focus of
restorative justice is to rehabilitate offenders through reconciliation with victims and the community in
other words tries and repair the harm caused as a result of the committed crime (Daly Immarigeon
1998). Each state government in Australia takes a particular approach to the restorative justice
process; whilst some states are more committed others are lacking the same level of commitment. This

which has steadily expanded since then. Circle sentencing can be traced to the traditional practices of

Analysis Of The Movie The Heart Of The Sea
December is usually a time of celebration where most people enjoy the holidays loved ones. Unlike
every other year, this season will include a blockbuster film that is loosely based off the classic tale,
Moby Dick. However, the trailers for In the Heart of the Sea, directed by Ron Howard, are based of a
book version with the same title. The abstract idea of this movie sounds phenomenal, but the when it
comes to the teaser trailer that is supposed to be about a giant whale, it did not seem to make a splash.
The movie is not slated to be released until December 11, 2015, but it is clear to see that the teaser
trailer has given the movie a negative vibe. Luckily, the official trailer was released about a month
later, and it has revived the film through the extremely well crafted usage of plot details, appropriate
music, and dialogue.
Ron Howard started his career as a child actor on the classic television shows. Soon later he began
breaking the barrier into movies, and Howard convinced Roger Corman, a producer, to help him direct
Howard s film project. Three years later, Howard evolved into a well established movie director. Mr.
Howard has now directed many movies that have resulted in success. For example, he is the genius
behind the movie, Apollo 13 (Ron Howard Biography). The award winning director s latest project
has had a difficult beginning, but is now steadily evolving into a great film thanks to the official
trailer.
In the Heart of the Sea is completely set

  • 2. Conformity Influence The Way People Conform Factors that Influence People to Conform Conformity is the act of matching attitudes, beliefs, and and. behaviors to .group. norms(Boundless, 2014). Simplifying it; Crutchfield in 1995 is quoted .saying that conformity is basically labeled as yielding to group pressures (McLeod, 2007). The majority of people conform to their surrounding standards without even noticing it(Advameg, 2014). Conforming is not necessarily bad or good. Advameg (2014) gives the example of how people stop at a red light even though a law enforcer may not be around. A small amount of conformity is required to have an organized society(Boundless, 2014). However the view of conformity is .distinct .from .nation to nation. Since conventionality does exist everywhere, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this particular experiment, partakers were asked to choose a line that matched the size of one of three different lines (Myers DeWall, 2014). Typically the participants would answer correctly, choosing the string that was identical. During one query the two confederates involved in the project would deliberately choose the wrong answer. Consequently during the same question, around thirty three percent of participants conformed to the confederate s response one time or more (Cherry, 2013). The thing that makes these results different from informational conformity is that the correct answer was obvious. Solomon s project is an excellent case in point of normative influence. Normative influence is Yielding to group pressure because a person wants to fit in with the group (McLeod, 2007). Solomon Asch s experiment also gave insight of why people conform. (Myers DeWall, 2014) People conform when they feel inept, or in a group where every person has the same opinion. If another person agrees the results are different (Myers DeWall, 2014). Solomon Asch also observed how people displayed extreme discomfort when confronted with the decision to disagree with the group (Myers DeWall, 2014). Solomon Asch s project showed signs of several conformity factors. First on the list is unanimity. More people conform in situations where the group s response is undisputed (Boundless, 2014). • 3. Globalization Is The Increasing Inter Connectedness Of... 1. Globalization is defined in the book as the increasing inter connectedness of people and places through converging economic, political, and cultural activities. Cultures and countries are now linked much more than they used to be in the past as technology continues to grow. It s becoming cheaper and easier to set up technology in lesser developed countries as well as that it continues to grow in more developed countries. Fast food restaurants are now changing and transferring to other countries and changing the menu to the culture of that country in an attempt to make more money. These restaurants from America transferring to other countries are causing diets to become unhealthy much as they have in America. Most American s don t go a week without eating at some fast food restaurant. Western consumerist culture has also transferred. America is absolutely infatuated with spending to get what they think they need when in actuality they don t. Most scholars believe that economic organization is a large part of globalization. It includes global communications that link all people. It also includes better transportation systems, transnational business strategies, and promotion of free trade. There are many positives to globalization. One of which is more money being put into lesser developed countries. This is a plus because this causes people in those countries to be able to succeed and support themselves. Also governments of different countries can better work together ... • 4. Analysis Of Boo Radley He just might be watching all the townspeople through their windows. Staring in the dark night. All anyone knows of him is what they have heard through rumors. Is all the gossip true, or is Boo Radley just a tall tale? In literature, authors use dynamic characters to leave readers asking questions and wanting more. Similar to how Harper Lee uses Boo Radley in her novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, to display tension throughout the story, by having him slowly transform from an ominous monster, to a true mystery, and eventually, a hero. From the start of the novel, Boo is automatically perceived as a horrific beast that preys on the innocent people of Maycomb County, yet everything anyone knows of the man is based off speculation. For instance, the narrator provides her questionable knowledge of Boo when she informs readers that he is, a malevolent phantom that is auspiciously known for lurking in the night to [peep] in [residents] windows (Lee 10). If this rumor about Boo is true, readers should have a growing concern for all the people in the town, especially because no one has a clue what Boo s appearance resembles. He has not left his home in the light of day for countless years. This man could be real trouble. Later, rumors seem to be confirmed by town gossip, Miss Stephanie Crawford when she recalls a time when she awoke in the middle of the night to find Boo s skull of a face staring right at her through her window (Lee 16). Even though Miss Stephanie is known to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Jeff Jacoby s Bring Back Flogging Essay Jeff Jacoby s Bring Back Flogging This essay by Jeff Jacoby illustrates an authors use of ironic sarcasm otherwise known as satire to defend and illustrate his platform on his position. Jacoby uses in this essay verbal irony (persuasion in the form of ridicule). In the irony of this sort there is a contrast between what is said and what is meant. Jacoby s claim in simple is he believes that flogging should be brought back to replace the more standard conventional method of the imprisonment of violent and non violent offenders. His grounds for the revival of flogging stems back to his initial mention of the Puritan punishment system. He cites how in 1632 Richard Hopkins was Flogged and branded for selling guns and weapons ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jacoby s argument of flogging attempts to show how it can be more productive over the conventional method of punishment seemingly the only way, imprisonment. His beliefs are that public whippings will prevent youths and first time offenders from becoming lifelong felons. The benefits deduced from his argument for flogging assuming it proves to be conclusive would be such. Lowering the rate of felons in jail, freeing up space for the more violent offenders. The appalling estimated amount of thirty thousand a year per inmate would be saved. A public whipping would not be associated with respect and sign of manhood or status symbol that prison serves for many offenders. Flogging he believes would deter many of the first time offenders and youth along with preventing them from being repeat and long time offenders. The pain, scars, and embarrassment of public whippings would far exceed the value or risk reward benefit of doing a petty crime thus forcing people to think about their actions before they did it. Jacoby contends that he is unsure whether being whipped is more degrading that being caged. At the end of his essay he draws attention to the point of the terrible risk of being raped in prison as an argument in favor of replacing imprisonment with flogging. I think that Jacoby appeals to the readers sense of sympathy for the wrongly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Invasive Mycoses Research Paper Invasive Mycoses Fungi have emerged over the past several decades as major contributors to human disease.(1, 2) As populations of immunocompromised and/or hospitalized patients continue to increase, so will the incidence of invasive fungal infections. A recent study reported that fungemia in the United States increased by 207% between 1979 and 2000.(3) Moreover, as the populations at risk for fungal infection continue to expand, so will the spectrum of pathogens capable of infecting those individuals. Invasive mycoses may be categorized as i) opportunistic or ii) endemic. Endemic infections, which are generally confined to specific geographic regions, are most often acquired via inhalation of spores. Infective agents include, but are not limited to, Histoplasma capulsatum, Coccidioides immitis, and Blastomyces dermatitidis. These infections frequently mimic common pulmonary infections in initial stages and are therefore often misdiagnosed. Dissemination and advanced disease follow. Dormancy may also occur, with reactivation of infection years later. This leads to diagnosis in a geographic regions outside of the high risk area.(4, 5) Opportunistic ... During the Romanov reign, Russia not only became, but remained a European powerhouse. The powerful three century reign continued until Tsar Nicholas II abdication in 1917. In 1918, the Romanov family consisting of Tsar Nicholas II, Tsarina Alexandra, and their five children were all executed. Nearly a century after their deaths, the Romanov line is still highly mentioned and speculated today. II. This meant getting rid of any threat that could potentially take them down. Having no problem with executing any and everyone who could stop them, they devised a plan to kill off the Romanov family line. Not only did they plan to kill Tsar Nicholas II and his wife Tsarina Alexander, they planned to kill their children to make sure there was no chance of a Romanov ever taking power again. On July 17th, 1918 the Romanovs were all executed by the Bolshevik troops. Most were killed by a plethora of bullets fired into a small room. It is rumored that some were beaten, tortured, and raped before meeting their final fate. Many versions and rumors of the Romanov execution still run rapid today. One of the most famous rumors regarding the execution is the survival of Grand Duchess Anastasia. For years, many people around the world debated rather Grand Duchess Anastasia survived the brutal execution or was killed along with her family. If Grand Duchess Anastasia was alive this meant she would inherit everything left behind, this caused many imposters to surface. Unfortunately, any speculation of her survival has been proven false due to DNA evidence. Even after tests have proven Anastasia died during the execution, many people still choose to believe she survived. I choose to side with the conclusion that she in fact did not survive. It can be even more dangerous if someone proves to be different, or seen as unusual in any way. Scientology may be arguably one of the strangest religions in the world. Because of this, Scientology has experienced intolerance since it was first founded in 1954. Religious intolerance is a social issue, and affects every level of the religious community, from the followers to the conductors of Scientology. Every single one of these alleged victims of the religion have all been kicked out of Scientology, in a sense. Can someone really be a reliable source for such information with that kind of bias? It doesn t make any difference at this point. Many Americans have heard her claims, as well as the other guests on her show s claims, and have taken them as complete fact, simply because they have a history with Scientology at all. The guests have made many terrible and overall baseless claims against Scientology. Just because someone has a history, doesn t automatically mean it is a good one. Scientology has tried as hard as possible to bring this to light. The community started by writing letters to the channel the show airs on, A E. The book is about a young boy and his relationship with a tree throughout his life. The tree is always giving him something to make him happy and fulfill his needs. The tree never complains and is always happy to help the boy. As the boy grows older he finds different uses for the tree. At the beginning of the story, the young boy and the tree are very close but as he gets older he grows apart from the tree and only visits when he s in need of something. I personally love this book a lot. This story can have many different messages because each person can interpret the message in their own way and theres so many different possibilities. As the story goes on it in fact is a little sad because the young boy decided to go on and discover bigger, better things in life and he always forgets about the tree that loves him so much. This reminds me of when kids are in their teens years, how we are too busy trying to fit in amongst our peers and try new things. We are so caught up in other activities that we tend to forget about our parents and we give more importance to other things and end up taking our parents for granted. Regardless of how the boy neglects the tree that anxiously waits for him daily, the tree never holds a grudge because of how strong the love is. The tree is always so excited to see the boy whenever he visits but the boy doesn t feel the same way. Come Boy, come and climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and eat apples and play in my shade and be happy! I am too big to climb and play said the boy. He always asked the tree for something each time he visits and without hesitation the tree gives him every part of itself but the young boy is still never ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Woman s Descent Into Madness Shayna Pospisil Professor Callis English 112 29 April 2015 A women s descent into madness Hamlet is praised as one of the greatest literary works ever written but unlike the title, many characters play key roles in the development of the story and his progression towards revenge induced madness. One such character is Hamlet s lover Ophelia. She is a pivotal character in the effectiveness as well as execution of the plot for revenge. One fact that is commonly short sited is the relationship Ophelia has with Hamlet and how that ultimately affects his road towards revenge. Without Ophelia there is no Hamlet. Ophelia s innocence, lack of knowledge and ignorance, and weakness of the mind all play a key role in not only her own but also Hamlet s demise. One of the most talked about subjects in the play itself is Ophelia s innocence of purity. Because Hamlet was going to Denmark a relationship with Ophelia would never work therefore her father felt the intense need to protect her innocence. Any kind of relationship would be detrimental to not only Ophelia but her family as well. If Ophelia were to lose her purity before marriage she would no longer be desirable to any other man because she would be used goods . That would reflect not only on herself but on her family. Another interesting point is just how protective her brother Laertes is of her virtue. In Act I, Laertes gives advice to Ophelia on the pitfalls of a pre marital relationship in a lengthy speech that s geared ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act Of 1984 Replacing the Old Fashion Around the world new adults are flaunting their new found responsibilities consuming alcohol at the average age of 18. However, unlike most countries in the world the United States has determined to establish their drinking age to be set at 21 years of age. This antiquated position is unjust to many young American adults. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 should be revised and reconstituted to the legal age of 18. To provide a more suitable America that is secure and reasonable for all young adults. The drinking age needs to be lowered so that it can reduce traffic fatalities, reduce binge drinking, and allow young adults to understand an old ongoing tradition. It s time to reconsider the drinking age to allow a safer environment for everyone. Drinking and driving is still a problem today, and can even be seen in young adults. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 was instituted to reduce drunk driving. According to Michelle Minton, a fellow in consumer policy studies at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, states due to this act ages of 18 and 21 actually increased traffic fatalities of those between the ages of 18 and 24 by three percent. (Minton 22). Having an increase of three percent in traffic fatalities is by no means a small portion of the total deaths, with just an increase of three percent, many more young American adults have passed away, which could have easily been prevented. • 15. Jewish Folk Dance As A Means Of Creating A New Israeli... Jewish national identity was colonized when Jewish people were forced out of ancient Israel and dispersed to various different nations. Anti Semitism was one of the principle means for this colonization because it made it dangerous for Jewish people to express their own national identity in the European nations they dispersed to. As a result, certain traditions, like Jewish folk dance, which were not codified, were lost. Jewish folk dance also disappeared because folk traditions are strongly connected to the land in which they originated and the majority of Jews left Israel. Furthermore, because of the third commandant of the Torah, Jews were not allowed to depict images of their dance. Consequently, their traditional dance was lost forever. However, when the Jews returned to Israel in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they found it important to recreate traditions like folk dance to reassert their fractured nationhood after so many years of diaspora. Thus, Israeli folk dance was a means of creating a new Israeli culture. Israeli folk dance was created by using elements from other dance cultures with themes and music of modern Israel. In this paper, I will argue that while anti Semitism resulted in the colonization of Jewish national identity, women re created Israeli folk dance as a means to establish a new Jewish identity, as well as an identity for themselves. By focusing on Romania and Yemen, we will identify the vestiges of colonialism in Israeli folk dance, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Death Of Ivan And By Leo Tolstoy In The Death of Ivan Ilych , Leo Tolstoy purposely focuses on Gerasim, the assistants Butler, to establish a transformation in Ivan Ilych that makes him realize the true meaning of life. Gerasim is used as an important tool through the events that lead up until Ivan s death. Through Gerasim, the author conveys the themes of death, family, and propriety by emphasizing the impact that he brings upon Ivan s life. Gerasim acts as a guide in the shift of Ivan s perception by helping Ivan change his views and perspective towards death which no other person could have done if Gerasim was removed from the novelette. Ivan Ilych does not live his last years before death to his fullest potential and it is as if he is not living at all. Ivan can not bring himself to accept death because he believes he does not deserve to die and questions why this is happening to him. Ivan is not ready to face death so soon since his life is going as planned. Ivan is lying to himself about him dying and tries to avoid the word death by saying it, He went to his study, lay down, and once again was left alone with it. Face to face with It, unable to do anything with It. Simply look at It and grow numb with horror (Tolstoy 80). They tried to ease my nervousness with their soothing words, but being so anxious nothing could soothe me. It all started at birth. My deformity was nothing new to the medical world, but in my parent s eyes it was something out of fiction. My feet were turned in like hockey sticks. In medical jargon it is noted as club foot which is a perfect description. But of course my parents being who they are dismissed my quark and accepted me and fell in love. This could be said about the rest of my family too, but when they finally were able to conceive what was actually occurring they became weary and quite sad, especially my grandfather. When he first picked me up he took me to the corner seat of the hospital room and cried. But, his fear and sadness did come with love and acceptance. At the age of one I received my first surgery. Being June, the temperature was excruciating which only made things worse for my casts and me. The sweat would drip down my legs and into the crevasses where I could not reach. The moisture would sit in the cloth for days and my wounds would itch tremendously. After the removal of the casts learning to walk was difficult, but being a child it came quickly. • 19. Chuang Tzu s Basic Writings Essay Chuang Tzu s Basic Writings, with his idea of the way which is effortless and ineffable, seem to suggest a minimalist take on government. The Daoist philosophy present in the text has no room for organized hierarchy or unified morality in the understanding of the world. This leaves no room for government whose laws and bureaucracy are based on codified morality and hierarchy. The government must also allow its citizens to practice the wu wei, which means the government would have to allow individual freedom. Thus the only suitable form of government following the way would be a limited structure emphasizing individual morality essentially a libertarian form of government. There is a lack of hierarchy in Chuang Tzu s Daoism due to the belief in the indistinguishable position of the individual to the rest of humanity and humanity to all the world. This is evident in The Dream and The Butterfly in which Chuang Tzu shows that the perspective of a human is no truer than the perspective of a butterfly. In the fable, Chuang Tzu s questioning of which organism is the reality and which is the dream blurs the distinction between humanity and nature. This is consistent with Chuang Tzu s belief that humanity is one with nature, meaning that human government should reflect the form of hierarchy present in the natural world. Such a belief in the most natural sense of hierarchy would at first suggest that the way is a path of egalitarianism; however, this belief that, in nature, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Social Media And Electronic Communication Communication Electronic communication technologies influence the social development of adolescents in several ways including interpersonal communication, and emphasized that interpersonal communications are depersonalized because adolescent now conduct a higher proportion of communication electronically rather than face to face or voice to voice. (Subrahmanyam greenfield, 2008). Any type technology to communicate with others, such as cell phones, instant messaging, and social networking sites, it deprives any visual or auditory cues of facial expression, body language, and voice dynamics (Cyr, Berman, Smith, 2014). Interpersonal relationship problems arise when messages on either end are misunderstood (Erozkan, 2013). When adolescents communicate face to face, it provides an adequate tone of voice, therefore the message is more clearly, in contrast, when using social media, the reader may misinterpret the message. Erozkan (2013) emphasized that without effective communication, a message can turn into error, misunderstanding, or frustration. Communication is the basis of personal relationships and effective communication happens when the message that is sent is the same message that is received (Erozkan, 2013). This can cause differences in relationships as interactions face to face are necessary. Although face to face interactions provides more meaning to relationships, adolescents opt to use their electronic communication. Some adolescents might be more expressive ... Rights, Laws, and Policies for Children with Special Needs In 2006 and 2007 over 6.5 million children (13.6 percent) enrolled in public schools in the U.S. were identified as children with disabilities or special needs (Ben Porath, 2012, p. 25). Current legislation, such as the Individuals with disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 (IDEA), is designed to ensure these students get appropriate education in an environment that is inclusive and the least restrictive possible. This best environment for students with special needs is not a physical place, but represents a philosophy to guide practitioners in supporting equity for all children (Darragh, 2007, p. 167). The equity does not mean that every child gets the same thing, but that each individual gets what is needed to be successful in school. There is, to some extent, a paradox. Students with special needs must be treated as individuals so their specific challenges can be addressed, and yet they must also be considered part of the mainstream to have access to that which is afforded the majority of students. Satisfying the mandates on both sides of the paradox requires sensitivity, skill, and understanding of laws, policies, and the rights of the individuals involved. There are four laws in the U.S. that are important to understand as they relate to children with special needs: Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973; Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA); Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA); and the Elementary and Secondary ... The overview will cover the requirement, certification procedures and benefits of ISO9001 certification. History Quality management systems owe their basis to the the military industry. In fact the origins of ISO9000 series of standards dates back to fifties, during the development of a nuclear submarine in the US which had issues with contractors causing delays and quality breakdowns. As the result of the research of that project the foundations of quality management were developed and other important military standards were born such as NASA s and British Defence s quality management standards. In 1971 the British Standard Institute applied a QMS to electronics industry with the BS 9000 and, later on, in the manufacturing industry in 1979,publishing the BS 5750 from which the ISO9000 series of standard, published in 1987, is heavily based. After its revision in 1994 the ISO 9000 added separate ISO 9001, 9002 and 9003 standards for different industries becoming the reference quality management system standard in different nations and ... • 26. The Symposium And The Bhagavad Gita Essay Paper Assignment 2 Prompt 1 When it comes to the subject of love and desire, it would seem that The Symposium and The Bhagavad Gita disagree as to whether those qualities are beneficial to achieving spirituality or detrimental. In the Symposium, Plato states that desire is part of the pathway to achieving spirituality. By contrast, the unnamed author of the Bhagavad Gita seems to state that desire is an obstacle in the pathway to achieving divinity. Their perspectives can seen through their texts that connect of love to the divine, Plato s way of reaching divinity and the way of reaching divinity that is mentioned in the Hindu scripture of The Bhagavad Gita. Through the readings of The Bhagavad Gita and The Symposium, it is clear that love and desire seems to be a asset to fulfilling one s divinity rather than an obstacle. An important part of the subject is that in both The Symposium and The Bhagavad Gita, love is seen as sort of a divine force. At the setting of the Symposium, Plato, through the speeches of the other great minds at the Symposium, introduces the possible concepts that Love might be a God that is one of the beautiful gods of all. However, according to Plato, love is neither a god nor human, but He is a great spirit, Socrates. Everything classed as a spirit falls between god and human (Plato 38). In the story Brave New World, they had sex with multiple partners along with a very bad use of drugs. It is weird that Aldous Huxley wrote this book in 1931 about the world he was living in during that time and how it is similar to the world we live in today. Nowadays, drugs are still being used and people are still engaging in sexual encounters with multiple partners. Things are no different than they use to be. People still to this day are using drugs and committing adultery as if there aren t any diseases out there. In the story they introduced a drug named Soma. This particular drug was the narcotic they used to escape the world they lived in. Aldous Huxley did not like being in London because he felt the people there were basically all the same. Eugenicists view the undesirable qualities in a population as aspects of humanity that can be improved upon and developed through the careful regulation of breeding within a society. If the breeding of specific traits were to be controlled, the best possible offspring would be produced. The desire to improve the human race is a theme also found in Nick Bostrom s Transhumanist Values and The Transhumanist FAQ. • 32. The Human Need For Realistic Representations When photographs and film were first invented it was seen as a means for capturing reality. They would replace paintings in the role of capturing reality, due to the ability to capture pictures in real time. In class we discussed about the idea that artists may choose to omit a part of a portrait that is not representative of the person being depicted (such as a random strand of hair standing up). Additionally, a random ray of light may draw attention to something in the real world that may also not be of great importance to the person in question. These same problems are things that can arise in movies and rather than having the viewer interpret and figure out what is being shown, the director can take on these responsibilities through the use of camera angles, multiple cuts, editing, artificial lighting, and the use of professional actors who can portray the director s vision of the characters. Bazin identifies cinema as the human need for realistic representations. Bazin is a believer in realism and explains the elements of realism consisting of long takes, deep focus, limited editing, and the use of non professional or relatively unknown actors (De Sica, Metteur En Scene, p.65). Though realism does have its place in filmmaking, it would fail to take advantage of the artistic gifts and skills of the director to show what he envisions the film to be. I cannot imagine how hard it had to be for Nolan to narrate the story concisely and smoothly at the same time. Roger Ebert commented on his review for the film that we have to trust him (Nolan) that he can lead us through, because much of the time we are lost and disoriented. I, personally, did not feel that way. Of course, a lot of credit has to be given to the cinematographer too. Wally Pfister used subtle but effective techniques to simplify a little the complex nature of the story. In order to prove my point, let me give an example. In order to help the audience to seamlessly identify the dream levels where the different stages of the plan were takin g place, Pfister gave each level a particular color tone. The first level, where the abduction takes place, has a fairly neutral tone to it; everything looks normal. The second level, most of the action develops in the hotel hallway, the lighting and furniture provide a warmth tone; and the third level, where they penetrate the mountain fortress, has a cool tone to enhance its already sterile ambient. • 35. Analysis Of The Movie The Heart Of The Sea December is usually a time of celebration where most people enjoy the holidays loved ones. Luckily, the official trailer was released about a month later, and it has revived the film through the extremely well crafted usage of plot details, appropriate music, and dialogue. Ron Howard started his career as a child actor on the classic television shows. Soon later he began breaking the barrier into movies, and Howard convinced Roger Corman, a producer, to help him direct Howard s film project. Three years later, Howard evolved into a well established movie director. Mr. Howard has now directed many movies that have resulted in success. For example, he is the genius behind the movie, Apollo 13 (Ron Howard Biography).
