8. Buddy Bolden (1877 - 1931) Charles “Buddy” Bolden is credited with being the first to combine ragtime and Blues, to add brass and even incorporate parts of Gospel music, all in one. His best known song was “Funky Butt” I'm not kidding. 1907 at the age of 30, Bolden has a psychotic breakdown and goes into a mental institution, never to emerge. He made no recordings.
