Peering Through Spectacles Of The English School, Has...
Peering through spectacles of the English School, has provided valuable insight into the mechanics
of international affairs, in which I had little prior knowledge. I have always believed that the United
Nations assisted countries to co–operate by allowing the diversities to be acknowledged and
respected, providing equality amongst the nations, even if relations have sometimes been strained.
The English School are a group of scholars who believe that the state actors form an international
society which helps to establish a co–operative environment. However, society doesn't completely
eradicate conflict which I believe is evident in the conflicts around the globe. During week five, I
learnt about the English School as a theory of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this new knowledge, I will look at international politics with new understanding about the
protocols and judge situations differently. In my opinion, International Politics can be understood
using the distinction of thought carried out by the English School. Bull introduced a distinction in
views of the English School between those who hold more realist views which he described as
pluralist and those that hold solidarist views who are idealistic and believe states can achieve
solidarity (Linklater 2013, p.97). Although I see that solidarist views would be ideal, I don't believe
it would ever be achieved because states have different ideologies, cultural and religious ideas which
shape state's interests. An example would be the Syrian conflict which has become an international
war with various state actors taking part for various reasons. In this view, when analysing events in
the future, I believe the pluralist view is practicable when applied to world events as it looks at
social relationships between states and behaviour, in future I will apply this perspective to
international affairs such as the Syrian war as stated above. The background of the Syrian War is
hidden in media hype which in the past skewed my understanding. As a civil war, the people
opposed the Assad government which ultimately brought in those who supported them within the
international society. Russia and Iran who have relationships with the

Promotion of Democracy and its Purpose in the United...
The United States prides itself on its democratic idealism and believes the every state should have
the opportunity to experience the freedom democracy offers. Democracy, in term of American
values, allows for the "right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" . These are inalienable for
everyone and those countries that withhold this must be change or reformed. The United States with
other democratic countries has taken on the project of converting all non–democratic states into
democratic governments. This process in motivated by the face, many believe democratic nation are

Condoleezza Rice believes, "weak and failing state serve as global pathways that facilitate the
spread of pandemics, the movement of criminals and terrorist, and the proliferation of he world's
most dangerous weapons." . Failing states need to be changed because their existence is a detriment
to the United State security. Non–democratic states are often portrayed as lacking the ability to
conduct them in a manner, which is conducive to the international environment. Many people
believe "democracy is the only assurance of lasting peace and security between states, because it is
the only guarantee of freedom and justice within states" . This determination is the main reason he
United States believes promotion of the democratic ideals is important when making foreign policy.
America has often taken on the task of promoting democracy across the global however; their tactics
are different from state to state. Anthony Lake, author of "From Containment to Enlargement"
proposes a comprehensive plan to use in the promotion of democracy. He believes "We contained
global threat to market democracies, now we should seek to enlarge their reach" . This plan to
spread democratic institutions is smart and a little complex. It must be taken step by step in its
entirety. The United States needs to strengthen the community in which that it wishes to build this

Rwanda Genocide: The First Conviction
Rwanda is a small country in Africa, made up of three ethnic groups: the Hutus, who held the
majority of the population; the Tutsis were only a small portion of the population; and there were
also very few Twa. All three groups spoke Kinyarwanda. There were differences in the appearances
of the Hutus and Tutsis, so that made it easy to identify their ethnicity. Tutsis were identified as
light–skinned and tall, while Hutus were darker–skinned and short. Although there were more
Hutus, the Tutsis were in control. ("Rwanda genocide of 1994")
On April 6, 1994, a plane with the President of Rwanda on board was shot down, killing everyone
inside. It was not identified who or what group caused the crash, but it was blamed on the Tutsis.
Hutu extremists began to kill all Tutsis. "Two major militia groups played a role in the killing of the
Tutsis, the Interahamwe which means those who attack together and the Impuzamugambi (those
who have the same goal)"("Rwanda genocide of 1994"). Radio broadcasters made the killings worse
by referring to the Tutsis as "cockroaches" that should be exterminated. One method that was used
to kill the Tutsis was machetes. The extremists used the machetes to hack and chop away at the
victims. Another method was rape. Hutus would

The Security Council 's Politics
After the end of two World Wars, and the League of Nations' failures to stop them, the world was
desperately in need of a supranational organization, which will not only prevent conflicts and wars
between nations, but would also promote friendly relations between them. As a global institution,
United Nations (UN) has been responsible in the areas of economic development, alleviating
poverty, promoting and maintenance of the Humans Rights, economic growth and related issues,
International health, Justice and most importantly its peacekeeping missions. Firstly, this essay will
analyze the Security Council's Politics, structure, its purpose ensuring peace and security between
the UN members, its functions, Powers and articles. Then, the roles of the permanent members of
the Security Council will be discussed, with special attention given to the United States. Then the
analysis UN's Security Council actions and missions in Suez Canal and Korean War will analyzed
and how UN's efforts on how it is coping up with Intra–State conflict, especially terrorism that has
become a new norm in violent conflicts. Then Humans Right missions in Afghanistan and Rwanda
will be reviewed. Then the UN's ambitious target, "The Millennium Development Goals"(MDGs)
will be examined. It can be agreed that, overall, the UN has largely been successful and effective in
delivering its roles and responsibilities, with few failures in its operation. The Security Council is

Relations Between The United States And The Europe
Peterly Jean Baptiste
US– EU relations
Introduction
Relations between the United States and the Europe dates back as far to 1950. Back in those days
the U.S dealt with the ECSC, European Coal and Steel Community. The ECSC was created in the
wake of WWII, established by the Treaty of Paris, with the sole purpose of uniting Europe which
had been hammered by three increasingly destructive wars. The ECSC's objective of unity was
forged through the creation of a free trade area for several key economic and military resources:
coal, coke, steel, scrap, and iron ore. The plan for trade area was proposed by the French foreign
minister Robert Schuman, one of the Founding father of the European Union. The ECSC was one of

Relations between the U.S. and EU were strengthen, and became less about war and more about
diplomatic action and economic relation. The Transatlantic Declaration of 1990 underlined key
reforms and conditions of their transatlantic relations.
The declaration included common goals such as:
support democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights and individual liberty, and promote
prosperity and social progress world– wide;
pursue policies aimed at achieving a sound world economy marked by sustained economic growth
with low inflation, a high level of employment, equitable social conditions, in a framework of
international stability
Today they collaborate on wide variety of issues, from terrorism to human rights. They also work
together on education policy. A complete account of their ongoing dialogues can be found on the

From a young age, my interest in the world around me was apparent in my love for history. I could

Water For Life Decade: Why People Need Access To Clean Water
The severe health concerns and effects from poor water and sanitation have drawn the attention not
only of small international organizations like Water.org, but also of the United Nations, which
declared the years of 2005 to 2015 as the Water for Life Decade. Its goal was to "bring attention to
the lack of access to clean water and sanitation systems." In 2010 the United Nations General
Assembly reaffirmed their efforts when they passed a resolution which recognized the human right
to have access to clean water and sanitation. However, there are still over 663 million people who
need access to clean water. The attempt to garner international recognition to this dearth of access
was to bring awareness to the number of obstacles people who had

Overview of the College Process The college process is a stressful meatgrinder that, at the same
time, crushes and fulfills the dreams of millions upon millions of students each year. Never before
have I seen such a calculated and corrupt system. For instance, universities have set up a
monopolistic empire that is free to price discriminate at will, and society, along with our
government, perpetuates this standard along with other equally revolting standards. Why have we
supported it? Because the job market now stipulates that every new employee must have a shiny
college degree regardless of the job's actual qualifications. Furthermore, colleges seem to have little
regard for their prospective students. Each institution demands three or more essays, and they act as
if students are not taking classes at the same time. Next year I will be, most likely, taking seven
advanced placement classes because that is necessary for admission into this nation's most
prestigious universities, yet my studies are hampered by the same question stated in an infinite
amount of ways, "What makes you right for our school?" This is not how the college process should
be, but we are all too busy writing 250–500 word meaningless essays, essays that simply answer
cliche questions that could be asked in an interview and answered in two to three sentences, to see
what the college process could be. My Personal Goals My dream school is Georgetown University,

What Are Human Rights And From Where Do They Originate?
What are human rights and from where do they originate?
According to Campbell, MacKinnon & Stevens (2010), there are two prominent schools of thought
with regards to human rights, natural law and positivism. Natural law is grounded in religion and
morality, based on God, and contends that individuals know the difference between what is right and
what is wrong (Cummings, et al., 2010). Proponents of natural law believe that every individual is
born with human rights and that states can only enact laws to restrict these rights. Positivism can be
traced to the Protestant Reformation, John Austin and Jeremy Bentham. Proponents of positivism
contend that human rights are created by the state and that the state is solely responsible for ... Show

The abolitionists, suffragists and peace activists were responsible for fighting for human rights
during the modern era. Abolitionists were concerned with slavery, the suffragists were concerned
with women's rights and peace activists were concerned with war and the peace (Cummings, et al.,
2010).
Individual human rights were not fully addressed on an international level until after World War I,
by the League of Nations, which was the predecessor to the United Nations (UN). The League of
Nations was responsible for promoting equal rights and protection for minorities in member nation–
states. The UN was formed after World War II and was formed to prevent war and promote peace.
The UN was instrumental in crafting documents and treaties with regards to human rights
internationally and forcing its members to adopt domestic legislation protecting human rights. The
UN was responsible for drafting the International Bill of Rights and the Universal Declaration of
Human Rights (UDHR), which aimed to protect human rights but were not legally binding
(Cummings, et al., 2010). The International Covenant on Civil Rights and Political Rights (CPR)
and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR) were legally binding
and had a component for monitoring but lacked an enforcement component (Cummings, et al.,
2010). The United Nations has been responsible for monitoring

Long Way Gone Ishmael Beah Analysis
Ishmael Beah wrote about his experiences in child warfare. His writings touches that the sky's the

scenarios that kids were forced into show how corrupted the area was and how strong the people had

people should be aware what's going on in the world. Beah proves how strong minded, he is as he

needs to set priorities in the reconstruction of Haiti. The first step, that is already taking place, is to

The second step should be focused on the alleviation of the country's debt with international
financial institutions and the promotion of direct access to credit. Only by solving the financial
problem, will the country be able to reconstruct its economy and reduce its high unemployment
rates. The third step involves international cooperation in the fields of agriculture, health, social
development and the strengthening of institutions. This way, it will be essential to provide even the
most basic resources and knowledge due to the fact that everything is starting from scratch. This
final step will take decades to be accomplished and for that same reason will demand a great effort
of the United Nations and other multilateral organizations. Besides those measures led by
multilateral institutions, several initiatives taken by individual countries will surely contribute to
accelerate the process of reconstruction. Brazil, for instance, is cooperating with Haiti in school
lunch programs, the promotion of sports, the production and use of ethanol fuel produced from
sugar cane and a vaccination campaign. However, the most important thing in this reconstruction
process is to learn from past mistakes. By doing that, it will be possible to avoid all the wrong
choices that were made in the country's history.

authoritarian regimes that severely restrict human rights, sponsor terrorism, and seek to proliferate
weapons of mass destructions Rogue states have been applied to a number of nations, often under

Diplomatic efforts have failed to freeze these nuclear development efforts. These programs pose a
threat to international security. They also have the potential to ignite regional nuclear arms races as
neighboring countries seek to safeguard themselves. What many scholars and theorists of
International Security lack is empirical evidence to such questions: Of what significance are Rogue
States to International Security? Do Rogue States constitute serious threat to International Security?
Theory
In international relations I take the stance of a realist. Realists believe that mankind is not inherently
benevolent but rather self–centered and competitive. Therefore States in international relations are
archaic and it becomes a game of the survival of the fittest. In order for one to understand rogue
states in International Security one must first recognize and have an understanding of the two main
theories in international relations: Realism and liberalism. What is Realism? Realism is interpreted
in many different ways. Realism is the tendency to view or interpret things as they actually are.

it has been assumed that 70 percent of these children would go to school if given the opportunity of

The UN Security Council can be seen unequal on the political geographic arena because not every
continent is represented fairly. Africa and South America are not permanent members, Europe is the

to address because the P5 are solely the worlds superpower. There were several attempts to address
the problem and still there is no point because the superpowers do not want to lose influential power
on the global stage. As a result, there are small advancement to propose a reform on the security
council.
There are three dominant points in reforming the Council. First is trying to change the membership
that would allow other countries to have a permanent seat within the council. Second cooperating
with one another through transparency and meetings. Thirdly, the power to veto any proposal that
the P5 members appreciate in doing so, must be replace. As many countries and foreign leaders

The League Of Nations And The United Nations
Introduction
The League of Nations and the United Nations are two unique forms of international governance
created by world powers out of the same necessity–needing a better format of managing global
conflict. However, both international organizations were created, structured, and operated under
very different circumstances. For instance, the League of Nations was created during towards the
end of World War I, when nations were looking for a governing body to address future global
conflicts. Similarly, the United Nations formed after World II in an effort to address the shortcoming
of the League of Nations, which failed to redress global security conflict and prevent the war. In
essence, the League, unable to effectively intervene in the issues that created World War II, was
dissolved on April 18, 1946, and in its place, the United Nations grew to govern international
situations (Northwestern, 2015). In this paper, I compare the founding documents, membership, and
the authority of both the League of Nations and the United Nations, showing how the United
Nations is an improved institution, better equipped to address global consensus and conflict. Finally,
I address a current global security event involving the United Nations, specifically how the Security
Council addresses these matters.

Essay on Standardized Testing
The No Child Left Behind Act and Standardized Testing:
State, National, and International
American Education has been a work in progress for the past century and a half. To measure its
progress, successes, and failings, there are standardized tests. These tests have been used to compare
schools, states, and nations. The key subjects being tested as a universal measure are mathematics,
reading, and science. To help improve the scores on these tests, the United States put into law the No
Child Left Behind act in 2001. When mention of this act is made, it brings several serious questions
to mind. What is the No Child Left Behind act? What is it doing for our education system on a local,
national and international scale? And how does it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A pointed question would be: is it working? One of the purposes of standardized testing is to answer
that question. In the U.S. today, there is a great deal of emphasis being placed on children passing
the many standardized tests that have been imposed. By means of standardization, education can
now be weighed and have its progress tracked. The performance of students is now a matter of
numbers and statistics. The most ambitious form of standardized testing as a form of comparison is
the Program for International Student Assessment or PISA. This international testing includes 60
nations belonging to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and
ranks the performance of 15–year–old students in the core subjects. When the results of the 2009
PISA testing were released, the United States was faced with the harsh reality that our students are
falling behind. American students placed 14th in reading literacy, which shows no improvement
since 2000, 25th in mathematics, which is still below average, and 17th place in scientific literacy
which was an improvement from the below average scores in 2006. Secretary of Education Arne
Duncan granted that it was a small victory in his 2009 address, but he remained firm in the fact that
America can do better (Duncan, 2010). Such questions as why the low scores are being produced
and what to do about it are still a matter of heated debate. Members of the Common Core, who

Inequality Between Education And Education Essay
Inequality in Education
Money Matters
The United States had gone through so many changes over the years and with each change we could
say that we have become a better nation. Along the way to becoming a better nation, we have gone
through highs and lows; however there seems to be a constant low that is now taking a toll on our
children. The low may also end up having an effect on our future and that low is inequality in
education among minority races and low income students. Low income students should be
concerned with inequality in education in the United States because this means that their chances of
continuing their education to obtain a better paying job in the future is significantly harder to do
then students in higher income brackets.
The education gap has been a long standing issue through the years in the United States. A study
showing that over the past 50 years some causes of the education gap attribute it to income and the
inequality amongst the races (Reardon 91). One event that we can associate with the difference in
the education gap is the segregation of the races in the 1950's and 1960's. Blacks and whites lived in
segregated areas, received different services and worked different jobs with different pay that
created a gap in income. Since the majority of blacks were living in lower income areas receiving
lower incomes and attending schools that provided inferior education, they were also subject to
inequality in income achievement (Reardon 103). We

Realism And The Marshall Plan
When discussing the national interest of the United States power, peace, prosperity, and principle are
often times involved. It is not always one specific "P" in which we obtain our national interest as it
is the combination of all four "P" together, often times with trade off between each. When
discussing the basic goals for American foreign policy, power is an essential requirement. Power
involves the preservation of national independence, self–defense against international attacks, and
the position of territory. Realism is the international relations theory used to highlight power in our
national interest. Realism is the school of thought in which states wish to examine interest rather
than peace. Realism also theorizes that political and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This protest demonstrated tens of thousands of Chinese students sitting in the Tiananmen Square in
the capital city of Beijing, China, as they demanded for a democratic nation. The communist
government of China insisted the student's move and with their refusal a massacre began. In the
reaction of the protest, many citizens of the United Stated insisted on evoking economic sanctions
towards China. These sanctions were directed towards the most–favor–nation clause, which would
restrict tariffs from Chinese exports to the United States. This demand was centralized around the
American principle of, how could the United States continue to do with a nation whom killed their
own citizens? The trade–off here was that the Bush administration, as well as the following Clinton
administration, were not willing to imply such sanctions for the fear of it impacting the United
States economy. This demonstration of power was focused on the prosperity of our nation rather
than the principles it stood for. The aspects of power and prosperity were given importance over the
principles of our nation. The positive aspects of these tradeoffs were to continuance of economic
growth through the trading system, but ultimately the consequences of which principles our nation is
true too were compromised. While I can understand why both administrations went in the directions

United States Power Politics
The history of the United States is short but complex. A young nation, the United States has already
become a major power in the world theatre. Risen from humble colony, to independent nation, and
finally a world leader, in little more than three hundred years. Many believe that the young nations
isolation and independence have shaped it polices toward other nations. The United States following
years of isolationist policy entered the world stage in force under the leadership of two powerful
figures in United States history President Roosevelt and President Wilson. These Presidents held
strong views of the relationship that the United States should have in the world's political theatre.
Wilson was the political idealist, he believed that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first was Theodore Roosevelt, a realist, he believed that the balance of Europe was important to
the United States. He sought to flex the international powers of the United States. Roosevelt invoked
the Monroe Doctrine as a means of influencing the Western Hemisphere; for instance, claiming that
the Monroe Doctrine demanded that the United States act as an international police in instants of
"flagrant cases of wrongdoing." (Kissinger 1994, 39) Validated, Roosevelt and the United States
began influencing their international neighbors in Central American and the Bahamas. In 1902 Haiti
paid its debts to European banks after pressure from the United States. In 1903, the United States
incited a revolt in Panama that resulted in Panama's independence and sovereignty of the land that
would become the Panama Canal. Roosevelt states in his Congressional address, "More and more,
the increasing interdependence and complexity of international political and economic relations
render it incumbent on all civilized and orderly powers to insist on the proper policing of the world."
(Kissinger 1994, 39) He presented the idea that the United States needed to stand in the world as a
beacon of democracy, but also acts as a policing force on the world stage. With an understanding of
the balance–of–power, Roosevelt thought that it could and should be used to

Thesis: In order to ensure that parental rights concerning the upbringing and education of their
children remain fundamental rights in America, there must be an amendment to the United States
Constitution explicitly stating parental rights.

In the same case of the Supreme Court, Justice Souter wrote a separate opinion saying that parents
have rights, but not fundamental rights. Yet he voted for the parents in this particular case while
Justice Scalia did not (Farris, "Deeper"). Many lower courts (which handle everyday cases that
affect parents) have used the Supreme Court's ruling in Troxel v. Granville to undermine parental
rights claiming that since the Supreme Court cannot agree, the lower courts are free to decide a case
however they wish (parentalrights.org). The United States has a history of protecting the
fundamental rights of parents, but that perception is changing. Not only are parental rights being
attacked here at home, but attack is also coming from the rising force of international law
(parentalrights.org). In 1995, President Clinton signed the United Nations Convention on the Rights
of the Child (CRC), an international treaty which requires the state to protect "the best interests of
the child"(Convention on the Rights of the Child, art.3.)(Farris, "Parental Rights"). Article 18 of the
CRC declares that parents have "the primary responsibility" for the upbringing and development of
the child. In doing so, the CRC changes parental rights into parental responsibilities
(parentalrights.org). Because these rights would be replaced with responsibilities, "best interests

The Problem Of Migrant Children
This paper aims to support my thesis that, although there is still a significant problem regarding
migrant children's access to education, many efforts within the global arena have been established to
address the issue. The paper will first provide an overview of the concern of migrant children and
the lack of access to quality education they experience. It will then analyze the international
response to the issue globally and then look at India's approach to ensuring education for all through
The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act. Additionally, India's next steps and
possible solutions will be addressed.
Introduction
For centuries, people have been displaced from their homes for economic, social, political, or
environmental reasons. According to the United Nations' 2013 International Migration report, over
two hundred thousand people migrated just in 2013, 15.1% of them being between the ages 0–19,
and over 15,000 refugees migrated. As of 2013, the number of international migrants worldwide
reached 232 million (UN International Migration Report, 2013). The report also states that in 2013,
the United Sates, Russia, and Germany have the largest number of international migrants. Most
migrants try to move to industrialized countries, such as Western Europe, or the United States in
hopes for a better future, while others move across borders or internally as unfortunate
circumstances and factors push them from their homes. Once

English as an International Language' and 'Intercultural Communication
In the modern world, it is easier for people to interact across borders than ever before. Both social
and economic activities are being shared due to the advanced technology between both English and
non–English speaking nations. Due to their cultural differences, use of English creates a further need
for learning intercultural communication. English has become an international language as its
popularity has continually grown even in countries where English native speakers are outnumbered.
In developing countries, it is commonly used in formal settings. Moreover, as businesses globalize

The end result is that different kinds of English's have come up (Samovar 2014). For instance, the

Renationalization of the English language due to the fact that it is an international language,
indicates an attempt to create uniformity across many nations. However, the uniformity is not
achievable due to a difference in backgrounds, beliefs and values. Although nations may embrace
some of the English culture, some of their values cannot be changed (Samovar 2014). Thus,
intercultural communication cannot be overlooked as it helps to create sensitivity towards a culture

Looking at the GDP chart in the previous section, and you see the economies of Japan and China
have become world powerhouses. This growth has produced wealth and development in these
countries. Images of Chinese streets filled with bicycles and pedestrians have been replaced with
those of bustling, building and growing cities. Because there is so much manufacturing going on in
these countries, the cash flow has started to reach the smaller cities and towns. Among the
improvements to these once isolated farm villages are electricity is being brought in, water supplies
and schools are being built. More and more Chinese and Indian nationalists are purchasing
automobiles further expanding their connectivity to each other, thus increasing the demand for more
production. Developed nations that can follow trends and adapt to the changing economy are

In the world's perception of the right to education changes has been made in the few past decades.
the changes occurred in three phases or stages. In the first phase, lasting from the late 1940s up until
the early 1960s, international concern over the provision of 'fundamental education' came to focus
particularly on literacy and expansion of elementary of primary education in developing countries.
The second phase started in the mid 1960s until the late 1970s when focus passed on functional
illiteracy and expansion of elementary education continued. In the last phase, from 1980s until the
present functional literacy was regarded as an aspect of learning needs.
Two general points for educational policy can be made. The first is national efforts to reach out to
those illiterate adults especially in Africa and the second to expand access to elementary education
for the younger generation again mainly in Africa. These two points are the grounds for fulfillment
of the UDHR article XXVI – right to education. Other provisions can be only partially fulfilled such
as free education, but two provisions I mentioned can be fulfilled entirely in the whole world.
The assessment of the fulfillment of the right to education is done by using so called 4As

eventually predicted to disappear entirely, forming one, global nation. This process of globalization

decades ago, people would have never thought that an international business meeting would be as

The United States is a different story. There is an acute lack of emphasis on language in American
schools, and the languages that they do teach (typically French, German, and Spanish) are rarely
used after the student graduates. These languages, however, are not as important as they were at one
time. Other languages should be taught as another option for students. Since China is the United
States' primary trading partner, it makes sense for students to have the option to learn Mandarin
(Lapowsky). Languages spoken in other major trading countries such as India should be taught as
well. These courses should be required for students to take so that America can share a common
language with these countries as well as stay competitive on a global scale. Globalization is creating
a world where learning a second language is a modern must. Language can open new doors for
people, and now that cultural barriers are eroding, new languages have become more important and
useful than ever before. To ensure that their students can grasp every opportunity that comes their
way, schools need to require students to achieve proficiency in a second language. Since
globalization is showing no signs of slowing, American Students need to buckle up and embrace the

U.S. Drone Attacks and Pakistan State Sovereignty
U.S. Drone Attacks and Pakistan State Sovereignty According to Sean D. Murphy, U.S. anti–
terrorist operations in Pakistan so far have taken the forms of drone strikes, "hot pursuits" into
Pakistani territory in immediate response to raids from within Pakistan, and secret missions by
special operations forces, such as the CIA, against militant targets located deeper in Pakistan . The
numbers of incidents involving "hot pursuits" of the militant hideouts inside the Pakistani territory
have been very few, so they have not attracted as much attention as other operations. There has only
been one real recognized covert mission in Pakistan, which took place on September 3, 2008 in
South Waziristan , an area under the control of the Taliban. This was the US' first ground–based
battle against the Taliban within Pakistani borders. This caused the death of many civilians and no
"high–value" terrorist target. The Pakistani government strongly criticized this act and passed a
resolution demanding American cooperation on covert operations, so the US did refrain from
repeating such a mission; however, the American strikes using Unmanned Areal Vehicles, known as
drones, have been going on since 2004 and have only increased since then under the Obama
Administration. The cross–border attacks, especially the drone attacks, by the Afghanistan–based
American forces in the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) of the northwestern Pakistan are

Importance And Depth Of International Relations
Throughout the course of this class I have begun to realize the importance and depth of international
relations and how it plays a key role in our lives today. This class started off by using history to
show how international relations work. When I look at international relations from a historical
perspective I begin to realize that it tends to follow a very similar pattern. In analyzing the changes
and continuity of international relations I believe that international relations has remained the same
throughout time. Starting back in history I want to draw attention to the Melian dialogue that we
discussed in the very beginning of class. The Melian dialogue is a great example of how
international relations from back in history, specifically 416 BC, is very similar to today's
international relations. In the dialogue the Athenians wanted to take over the island of Milos (hence
the Melians) though the Melians remained neutral throughout the war the Athenians were fighting.
The Melians still wanted to remain neutral but the Athenians thought it would make them look weak
in the eyes of other nations. Many of the ideas presented in this text are similar to many current
debates today and it reflects on how a nation can have a need for power and what nations will do to
achieve that power. Moving toward current international relations we first need to understand that
countries are in groups of nation–states or states. In the article "The Rise of the Nation State during

Arguments Against Isolationism
Since the inception of this country, its people have been split between being involved in what
happens in the global community or "staying in our own yard". There is a constant grumble
whenever the Army of the United States marches stating that we should simply mind our own
business. These people have what can only be described as an ill–informed opinion on matters they
are not equipped to understand. The foreign policy of isolationism is ineffective because we live in a
world community, we have a moral responsibility to protect those weaker than us, and strategic level
homeland defense requires our involvement in the affairs of other countries. What must first be
understood is that we live in a world community. What affects one nation can and often does affect
other nations. As a proof of concept we'll examine unrest in the Middle East. One of the ... Show

The attacks on September 11 2001 proved that we have a vested interest in the stability of other
regions. Another international incident that is consistently criticized is the American involvement in
Afghanistan as it relates to September 11th. The hijackers on 9/11 weren't Afghans... but they were
trained in Afghanistan. The inconvenient truth is that instability in Afghanistan allowed the enemies
of the United States to have strategic level freedom of movement which then allowed for the attack
on the homeland. Furthermore, it should be noted that major attacks continue to be "birthed" from
areas of instability. The attack on the Mall in Kenya in 2012 by Al Shabaab came from instable
regions in the Horn of Africa. The attacks in Paris were conceived by ISIS which is headquartered in

Western Powers And Human Rights
Human rights have been described as a 'gift of the West to the rest. ' Discuss with reference to the
politics of multiculturalism.
The oxford dictionary describes human rights as "a right which is believed to belong to every
person" (Oxford Dictionary, 2016). Until the late 1940s, human rights were simply an ideal or
concept, but the newly formed United Nations declaration of human rights clearly set out in statute a
human beings rights. The late 1940s was a time of political turbulence, with Western powers
wielding huge amounts of control in organisations such as the United Nations. In this essay I will
argue that although Western powers may have attempted to deliver human rights to the wider world,
they have for the most part failed. Instead, most notably America and Britain have been involved in
endless human rights violations. The United Nations doctrine set out in 1948 has failed to convince
countries with strict religious doctrine to embrace human rights for all individuals. Even the
European Court of human rights has been accused of making decisions which many view as
stripping religious minorities of certain human rights. The West may have attempted to create a
global community who cherishes human rights, however this cannot occur until Western powers
themselves honour human rights. They must also attempt to understand that certain non–Western
countries with differing religious and political beliefs do not share the Western notion of 'human
rights' so vehemently

The Classic Text Of Power And Interdependence
International politics is simply defined as the academic principle which deals with the practical
realities of a state's interaction with another state or several other states. This essay will outline how
the classic text of Power and interdependence has shaped and continues to shape how we think
about international politics. Power and interdependence, published and authored by Robert Keohane
and Joseph Nye in 1977, was widely regarded as an influential book within the study of
international politics. The authors wanted to challenge the fundamental assumptions of traditional
and structural realism which at the time, focused on military and economic capabilities to identify
state behaviour.

to a school of thought which assumes that states are concerned with absolute gains rather than

The Purposes Of The United Nations Essay
The Purposes of the United nations are:
1. To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures
for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression
or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the
principles of justice and internal law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations
which might lead to a breach of the peace;
2. To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and
self determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace;
3. To achieve international cooperation in solving internal problems of an economic, social, cultural,
or humanitarian character and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for
fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion (Charter, 1).
On June 25, 1945 the United Nations Charter was signed, setting the framework for economic,
social and political reform (Patterson, UN, 20) By October 24, 1945,
the United Nations had become an official organization. Two months later, by December 27, the UN
Charter had 51 signatures, making it a new world power with the ultimate aim for peace and

Peering Through Spectacles Of The English School, Has...

  • 1. Peering Through Spectacles Of The English School, Has... Peering through spectacles of the English School, has provided valuable insight into the mechanics of international affairs, in which I had little prior knowledge. I have always believed that the United Nations assisted countries to co–operate by allowing the diversities to be acknowledged and respected, providing equality amongst the nations, even if relations have sometimes been strained. The English School are a group of scholars who believe that the state actors form an international society which helps to establish a co–operative environment. However, society doesn't completely eradicate conflict which I believe is evident in the conflicts around the globe. During week five, I learnt about the English School as a theory of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this new knowledge, I will look at international politics with new understanding about the protocols and judge situations differently. In my opinion, International Politics can be understood using the distinction of thought carried out by the English School. Bull introduced a distinction in views of the English School between those who hold more realist views which he described as pluralist and those that hold solidarist views who are idealistic and believe states can achieve solidarity (Linklater 2013, p.97). Although I see that solidarist views would be ideal, I don't believe it would ever be achieved because states have different ideologies, cultural and religious ideas which shape state's interests. An example would be the Syrian conflict which has become an international war with various state actors taking part for various reasons. In this view, when analysing events in the future, I believe the pluralist view is practicable when applied to world events as it looks at social relationships between states and behaviour, in future I will apply this perspective to international affairs such as the Syrian war as stated above. The background of the Syrian War is hidden in media hype which in the past skewed my understanding. As a civil war, the people opposed the Assad government which ultimately brought in those who supported them within the international society. Russia and Iran who have relationships with the ... • 3. Promotion of Democracy and its Purpose in the United... The United States prides itself on its democratic idealism and believes the every state should have the opportunity to experience the freedom democracy offers. Democracy, in term of American values, allows for the "right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" . These are inalienable for everyone and those countries that withhold this must be change or reformed. The United States with other democratic countries has taken on the project of converting all non–democratic states into democratic governments. This process in motivated by the face, many believe democratic nation are better for the world than the latter. Unfortunately moving to such "perfect" model of government is not easy and sometimes close to an impossible ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Condoleezza Rice believes, "weak and failing state serve as global pathways that facilitate the spread of pandemics, the movement of criminals and terrorist, and the proliferation of he world's most dangerous weapons." . Failing states need to be changed because their existence is a detriment to the United State security. Non–democratic states are often portrayed as lacking the ability to conduct them in a manner, which is conducive to the international environment. Many people believe "democracy is the only assurance of lasting peace and security between states, because it is the only guarantee of freedom and justice within states" . This determination is the main reason he United States believes promotion of the democratic ideals is important when making foreign policy. America has often taken on the task of promoting democracy across the global however; their tactics are different from state to state. Anthony Lake, author of "From Containment to Enlargement" proposes a comprehensive plan to use in the promotion of democracy. He believes "We contained global threat to market democracies, now we should seek to enlarge their reach" . This plan to spread democratic institutions is smart and a little complex. It must be taken step by step in its entirety. The United States needs to strengthen the community in which that it wishes to build this new governmental structure. Rwanda Genocide : The First Conviction Rwanda Genocide: The First Conviction Kaylee Schmit Ms. Sandbulte Advanced Composition January 11, 2016 Kaylee Schmit Ms. Sandbulte Advanced Composition January 11, 2016 Rwanda Genocide: The First Conviction Rwanda is a small country in Africa, made up of three ethnic groups: the Hutus, who held the majority of the population; the Tutsis were only a small portion of the population; and there were also very few Twa. All three groups spoke Kinyarwanda. There were differences in the appearances of the Hutus and Tutsis, so that made it easy to identify their ethnicity. Tutsis were identified as light–skinned and tall, while Hutus were darker–skinned and short. Although there were more Hutus, the Tutsis were in control. ("Rwanda genocide of 1994") On April 6, 1994, a plane with the President of Rwanda on board was shot down, killing everyone inside. It was not identified who or what group caused the crash, but it was blamed on the Tutsis. Hutu extremists began to kill all Tutsis. "Two major militia groups played a role in the killing of the Tutsis, the Interahamwe which means those who attack together and the Impuzamugambi (those who have the same goal)"("Rwanda genocide of 1994"). Radio broadcasters made the killings worse by referring to the Tutsis as "cockroaches" that should be exterminated. One method that was used to kill the Tutsis was machetes. The extremists used the machetes to hack and chop away at the victims. Another method was rape. Hutus would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Security Council 's Politics After the end of two World Wars, and the League of Nations' failures to stop them, the world was desperately in need of a supranational organization, which will not only prevent conflicts and wars between nations, but would also promote friendly relations between them. As a global institution, United Nations (UN) has been responsible in the areas of economic development, alleviating poverty, promoting and maintenance of the Humans Rights, economic growth and related issues, International health, Justice and most importantly its peacekeeping missions. Firstly, this essay will analyze the Security Council's Politics, structure, its purpose ensuring peace and security between the UN members, its functions, Powers and articles. Then, the roles of the permanent members of the Security Council will be discussed, with special attention given to the United States. Then the analysis UN's Security Council actions and missions in Suez Canal and Korean War will analyzed and how UN's efforts on how it is coping up with Intra–State conflict, especially terrorism that has become a new norm in violent conflicts. Then Humans Right missions in Afghanistan and Rwanda will be reviewed. Then the UN's ambitious target, "The Millennium Development Goals"(MDGs) will be examined. Back in those days the U.S dealt with the ECSC, European Coal and Steel Community. The ECSC was created in the wake of WWII, established by the Treaty of Paris, with the sole purpose of uniting Europe which had been hammered by three increasingly destructive wars. The ECSC's objective of unity was forged through the creation of a free trade area for several key economic and military resources: coal, coke, steel, scrap, and iron ore. The plan for trade area was proposed by the French foreign minister Robert Schuman, one of the Founding father of the European Union. The ECSC was one of three treaties ... I could never get bored of learning about the formation of the United States government or either of the World Wars. Unlike most children, my love for history was nourished each summer with travels to countries like Germany and Italy. I still remember running around at eleven years old with an informational headset in the Coliseum in Rome acting as a guide to my family. As an American with German and Italian roots, Europe has always held a special place in my heart. It was this love of history that led me to my interest in politics. Water For Life Decade: Why People Need Access To Clean Water The severe health concerns and effects from poor water and sanitation have drawn the attention not only of small international organizations like Water.org, but also of the United Nations, which declared the years of 2005 to 2015 as the Water for Life Decade. Its goal was to "bring attention to the lack of access to clean water and sanitation systems." In 2010 the United Nations General Assembly reaffirmed their efforts when they passed a resolution which recognized the human right to have access to clean water and sanitation. However, there are still over 663 million people who need access to clean water. • 16. Examples Of Portfolio Reflection On College College Unit Portfolio Reflections Overview of the College Process The college process is a stressful meatgrinder that, at the same time, crushes and fulfills the dreams of millions upon millions of students each year. Never before have I seen such a calculated and corrupt system. For instance, universities have set up a monopolistic empire that is free to price discriminate at will, and society, along with our government, perpetuates this standard along with other equally revolting standards. Why have we supported it? Because the job market now stipulates that every new employee must have a shiny college degree regardless of the job's actual qualifications. Furthermore, colleges seem to have little regard for their prospective students. Each institution demands three or more essays, and they act as if students are not taking classes at the same time. Next year I will be, most likely, taking seven advanced placement classes because that is necessary for admission into this nation's most prestigious universities, yet my studies are hampered by the same question stated in an infinite amount of ways, "What makes you right for our school?" This is not how the college process should be, but we are all too busy writing 250–500 word meaningless essays, essays that simply answer cliche questions that could be asked in an interview and answered in two to three sentences, to see what the college process could be. According to Campbell, MacKinnon & Stevens (2010), there are two prominent schools of thought with regards to human rights, natural law and positivism. Natural law is grounded in religion and morality, based on God, and contends that individuals know the difference between what is right and what is wrong (Cummings, et al., 2010). Proponents of natural law believe that every individual is born with human rights and that states can only enact laws to restrict these rights. Positivism can be traced to the Protestant Reformation, John Austin and Jeremy Bentham. The abolitionists, suffragists and peace activists were responsible for fighting for human rights during the modern era. Abolitionists were concerned with slavery, the suffragists were concerned with women's rights and peace activists were concerned with war and the peace (Cummings, et al., 2010). Individual human rights were not fully addressed on an international level until after World War I, by the League of Nations, which was the predecessor to the United Nations (UN). The League of Nations was responsible for promoting equal rights and protection for minorities in member nation– states. The UN was formed after World War II and was formed to prevent war and promote peace. The UN was instrumental in crafting documents and treaties with regards to human rights internationally and forcing its members to adopt domestic legislation protecting human rights. The UN was responsible for drafting the International Bill of Rights and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), which aimed to protect human rights but were not legally binding (Cummings, et al., 2010). The International Covenant on Civil Rights and Political Rights (CPR) and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ESCR) were legally binding and had a component for monitoring but lacked an enforcement component (Cummings, et al., 2010). He educates the readers on the troubles children face war in a life surrounded by war. The scenarios that kids were forced into show how corrupted the area was and how strong the people had to be to live. Beah uses his voice in a very powerful way, showing that these things happen and that people should be aware what's going on in the world. Beah proves how strong minded, he is as he moved away from his country to a safer place. Before he went anywhere he got helped by a nurse who aided him with his mental health at a hospital. There were many things that hindered Ishmael's journey throughout the book, that made him the young man he is today. Beah's tone throughout the book was very impactful showing his strong will to survive. What has kept him in good spirits was how strongly he held onto his past." I got off the path and walked carefully minding my footstep on dried leaves" " I hadn't laughed for a long time, but this made me laugh uncontrollably." The third step involves international cooperation in the fields of agriculture, health, social development and the strengthening of institutions. This way, it will be essential to provide even the most basic resources and knowledge due to the fact that everything is starting from scratch. This final step will take decades to be accomplished and for that same reason will demand a great effort of the United Nations and other multilateral organizations. Besides those measures led by multilateral institutions, several initiatives taken by individual countries will surely contribute to accelerate the process of reconstruction. Brazil, for instance, is cooperating with Haiti in school lunch programs, the promotion of sports, the production and use of ethanol fuel produced from sugar cane and a vaccination campaign. However, the most important thing in this reconstruction process is to learn from past mistakes. By doing that, it will be possible to avoid all the wrong choices that were made in the country's history. After the initial chaos ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Do Rogue States constitute serious threat to International Security? Theory In international relations I take the stance of a realist. Realists believe that mankind is not inherently benevolent but rather self–centered and competitive. Therefore States in international relations are archaic and it becomes a game of the survival of the fittest. Although not provocative today, this quote became extremely famous because it calls into question the practice of child labor. Oliver Twist, by Charles Dickson, was written in the Victorian era when factories and businesses were notorious for employing young children. Charles Dickens used his book, to bring a new connotation and worldwide exposure to the exploitation of children. In fact, the issue of Child labor still remains a persistent problem In the current modern world. For India, the country believed to have the highest absolute number of child laborers, it has been assumed that 70 percent of these children would go to school if given the opportunity of free education of a minimum quality (Burra, Born To Work, 1995). Several studies conducted by international organizations such as The International Labour Standards, The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund, The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, and World Bank have confirmed that education can reduce child labor (Kruger, 2007, Observations On International Labor Standards And Trade). The League Of Nations And The United Nations Introduction The League of Nations and the United Nations are two unique forms of international governance created by world powers out of the same necessity–needing a better format of managing global conflict. However, both international organizations were created, structured, and operated under very different circumstances. For instance, the League of Nations was created during towards the end of World War I, when nations were looking for a governing body to address future global conflicts. Similarly, the United Nations formed after World II in an effort to address the shortcoming of the League of Nations, which failed to redress global security conflict and prevent the war. In essence, the League, unable to effectively intervene in the issues that created World War II, was dissolved on April 18, 1946, and in its place, the United Nations grew to govern international situations (Northwestern, 2015). In this paper, I compare the founding documents, membership, and the authority of both the League of Nations and the United Nations, showing how the United Nations is an improved institution, better equipped to address global consensus and conflict. Finally, I address a current global security event involving the United Nations, specifically how the Security Council addresses these matters. Essay on Standardized Testing The No Child Left Behind Act and Standardized Testing: State, National, and International American Education has been a work in progress for the past century and a half. To measure its progress, successes, and failings, there are standardized tests. These tests have been used to compare schools, states, and nations. The key subjects being tested as a universal measure are mathematics, reading, and science. To help improve the scores on these tests, the United States put into law the No Child Left Behind act in 2001. When mention of this act is made, it brings several serious questions to mind. What is the No Child Left Behind act? What is it doing for our education system on a local, national and international scale? And how does it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A pointed question would be: is it working? One of the purposes of standardized testing is to answer that question. In the U.S. today, there is a great deal of emphasis being placed on children passing the many standardized tests that have been imposed. By means of standardization, education can now be weighed and have its progress tracked. The performance of students is now a matter of numbers and statistics. The most ambitious form of standardized testing as a form of comparison is the Program for International Student Assessment or PISA. This international testing includes 60 nations belonging to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and ranks the performance of 15–year–old students in the core subjects. When the results of the 2009 PISA testing were released, the United States was faced with the harsh reality that our students are falling behind. American students placed 14th in reading literacy, which shows no improvement since 2000, 25th in mathematics, which is still below average, and 17th place in scientific literacy which was an improvement from the below average scores in 2006. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan granted that it was a small victory in his 2009 address, but he remained firm in the fact that America can do better (Duncan, 2010). Such questions as why the low scores are being produced and what to do about it are still a matter of heated debate. Members of the Common Core, who wrote an extensive ... • 38. Inequality Between Education And Education Essay Inequality in Education Money Matters The United States had gone through so many changes over the years and with each change we could say that we have become a better nation. Along the way to becoming a better nation, we have gone through highs and lows; however there seems to be a constant low that is now taking a toll on our children. The low may also end up having an effect on our future and that low is inequality in education among minority races and low income students. Low income students should be concerned with inequality in education in the United States because this means that their chances of continuing their education to obtain a better paying job in the future is significantly harder to do then students in higher income brackets. The education gap has been a long standing issue through the years in the United States. A study showing that over the past 50 years some causes of the education gap attribute it to income and the inequality amongst the races (Reardon 91). One event that we can associate with the difference in the education gap is the segregation of the races in the 1950's and 1960's. Blacks and whites lived in segregated areas, received different services and worked different jobs with different pay that created a gap in income. Since the majority of blacks were living in lower income areas receiving lower incomes and attending schools that provided inferior education, they were also subject to inequality in income achievement (Reardon 103). Murphy, U.S. anti– terrorist operations in Pakistan so far have taken the forms of drone strikes, "hot pursuits" into Pakistani territory in immediate response to raids from within Pakistan, and secret missions by special operations forces, such as the CIA, against militant targets located deeper in Pakistan . The numbers of incidents involving "hot pursuits" of the militant hideouts inside the Pakistani territory have been very few, so they have not attracted as much attention as other operations. There has only been one real recognized covert mission in Pakistan, which took place on September 3, 2008 in South Waziristan , an area under the control of the Taliban. This was the US' first ground–based battle against the Taliban within Pakistani borders. This caused the death of many civilians and no "high–value" terrorist target. The Pakistani government strongly criticized this act and passed a resolution demanding American cooperation on covert operations, so the US did refrain from repeating such a mission; however, the American strikes using Unmanned Areal Vehicles, known as drones, have been going on since 2004 and have only increased since then under the Obama Administration. The cross–border attacks, especially the drone attacks, by the Afghanistan–based American forces in the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) of the northwestern Pakistan are meant to destroy or weaken the harbors of the ... • 64. Importance And Depth Of International Relations Throughout the course of this class I have begun to realize the importance and depth of international relations and how it plays a key role in our lives today. This class started off by using history to show how international relations work. When I look at international relations from a historical perspective I begin to realize that it tends to follow a very similar pattern. In analyzing the changes and continuity of international relations I believe that international relations has remained the same throughout time. Starting back in history I want to draw attention to the Melian dialogue that we discussed in the very beginning of class. The Melian dialogue is a great example of how international relations from back in history, specifically 416 BC, is very similar to today's international relations. In the dialogue the Athenians wanted to take over the island of Milos (hence the Melians) though the Melians remained neutral throughout the war the Athenians were fighting. The Melians still wanted to remain neutral but the Athenians thought it would make them look weak in the eyes of other nations. Many of the ideas presented in this text are similar to many current debates today and it reflects on how a nation can have a need for power and what nations will do to achieve that power. Moving toward current international relations we first need to understand that countries are in groups of nation–states or states. In the article "The Rise of the Nation State during the ... • 68. Arguments Against Isolationism Since the inception of this country, its people have been split between being involved in what happens in the global community or "staying in our own yard". There is a constant grumble whenever the Army of the United States marches stating that we should simply mind our own business. These people have what can only be described as an ill–informed opinion on matters they are not equipped to understand. The foreign policy of isolationism is ineffective because we live in a world community, we have a moral responsibility to protect those weaker than us, and strategic level homeland defense requires our involvement in the affairs of other countries. What must first be understood is that we live in a world community. What affects one nation can and often does affect other nations. As a proof of concept we'll examine unrest in the Middle East. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The attacks on September 11 2001 proved that we have a vested interest in the stability of other regions. Another international incident that is consistently criticized is the American involvement in Afghanistan as it relates to September 11th. The hijackers on 9/11 weren't Afghans... but they were trained in Afghanistan. The inconvenient truth is that instability in Afghanistan allowed the enemies of the United States to have strategic level freedom of movement which then allowed for the attack on the homeland. Furthermore, it should be noted that major attacks continue to be "birthed" from areas of instability. The attack on the Mall in Kenya in 2012 by Al Shabaab came from instable regions in the Horn of Africa. The attacks in Paris were conceived by ISIS which is headquartered in Syria. It's no secret that Syria is and has been extremely unstable for some time. We as a nation must work with our international partners to stabilize these regions in order to promote peace and ensure our peoples are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 70. Western Powers And Human Rights Human rights have been described as a 'gift of the West to the rest. ' Discuss with reference to the politics of multiculturalism. The oxford dictionary describes human rights as "a right which is believed to belong to every person" (Oxford Dictionary, 2016). Until the late 1940s, human rights were simply an ideal or concept, but the newly formed United Nations declaration of human rights clearly set out in statute a human beings rights. The late 1940s was a time of political turbulence, with Western powers wielding huge amounts of control in organisations such as the United Nations. In this essay I will argue that although Western powers may have attempted to deliver human rights to the wider world, they have for the most part failed. Instead, most notably America and Britain have been involved in endless human rights violations. The United Nations doctrine set out in 1948 has failed to convince countries with strict religious doctrine to embrace human rights for all individuals. Even the European Court of human rights has been accused of making decisions which many view as stripping religious minorities of certain human rights. The West may have attempted to create a global community who cherishes human rights, however this cannot occur until Western powers themselves honour human rights. They must also attempt to understand that certain non–Western countries with differing religious and political beliefs do not share the Western notion of 'human rights' so vehemently ... So, like others, I started a Criminal Justice program. A few months later the September Eleventh attacks accrued and I found myself back on active duty. I did not return to school for twelve years. I have always had a passion for travel, and love of history and culture. I would spend my off time reading about the world that we live in. I have been a "News Junky" before there was a term for it. When my friends from school would watch sports or MTV, I would be watching CNN. Especially after the start of the Golf War in 1990. I was thirteen then and I was fascinated by the whole thing. The travel, adventure, and the opportunity to have a front seat to history, which is the main reason why I joined the Marine Corps in the first place. The Classic Text Of Power And Interdependence International politics is simply defined as the academic principle which deals with the practical realities of a state's interaction with another state or several other states. This essay will outline how the classic text of Power and interdependence has shaped and continues to shape how we think about international politics. Power and interdependence, published and authored by Robert Keohane and Joseph Nye in 1977, was widely regarded as an influential book within the study of international politics. • 78. The Purposes Of The United Nations Essay The Purposes of the United nations are: 1. To maintain international peace and security, and to that end: to take effective collective measures for the prevention and removal of threats to the peace, and for the suppression of acts of aggression or other breaches of the peace, and to bring about by peaceful means, and in conformity with the principles of justice and internal law, adjustment or settlement of international disputes or situations which might lead to a breach of the peace; 2. To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace; 3. To achieve international cooperation in solving internal problems of an economic, social, cultural, or humanitarian character and in promoting and encouraging respect for human rights and for fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language, or religion (Charter, 1). On June 25, 1945 the United Nations Charter was signed, setting the framework for economic, social and political reform (Patterson, UN, 20) By October 24, 1945, the United Nations had become an official organization. Two months later, by December 27, the UN Charter had 51 signatures, making it a new world power with the ultimate aim for peace and humanitarian efforts.
