Nandos radio advert analysis
1. Radio advert analysis (Nandos)
This advert is for the food chain Nandos which is a Portuguese restaurant which has a
lot of restaurants in the UK its popular. This advert had a lot of repeating using the line
‘Its okay’ at the very start of the advert it says the spirit of Nandos which they then go on
to say ‘its okay’ basically that it’s okay to come to Nandos no matter what, In a way
saying that they don’t really have an excuse not to come.
After listing a few different people they mentions a traffic warden which is a job that is
looked at as harsh and people know them for giving you tickets and find them annoying
the advert says ‘it’s okay’ to have that job and come to nandos, another thing is a
stereotypical grown man basically saying you shouldn’t cry but in this It says that if you
cry at Bambi that’s its okay.
They also repeat the companies name twice at the start and a third time later on they
start out with Nandos so you instantly know what the advert is about over all they say
Nandos three times, it’s a way of making the listener remember what food chain it is and
if they hear it several times it will stick in their head and they will remember the advert
overall.
The voice saying this has a Mexican accent he’s very stereotypical when he mentions
his sister having joint eyebrows which can be quiet offensive if you were Mexican, The
RACC say ‘When different nationalities or regional accents are used in advertisement
scenarios, care is needed so as not to cause offence by negative stereotyping or by
ridiculing the relevant country, region or racial group’ they mention the ‘offensive by
stereotyping’ which some people could find this advert humorous and funny but if you
are Mexican you could think otherwise and find this offensive even though the advert
style did not intend to come across this way.
They also use the typical Mexican mariachi band music which first of all starts off slow
but once the advert gets going its upbeat and friendly, the advert and the man sounds
very happy and cheery, also comes across as a comedic and humorous way which
makes it instantly a positive advert and would make some people laugh or smile whilst
listening to it.
The most important part and overall the main purpose of the advert is to advertise what
they have here, they mention having side dishes which includes spicy rice and salad,
they then mention spoil yourself with chips and a ‘cheeky’ desert they use this word
basically saying ‘its okay’ to treat yourself every now and then and at Nandos ‘its okay’
to do so.
They then finished the advert using the line ‘that’s the spirit of Nandos’ saying that its
fine to spoil yourself and ‘its okay’ here making the listener feel comfortable that if they
go there everyone else is getting what they want, basically saying they aren’t
judgmental.
They don’t mention any contact details because there are so many of them about there
isn’t just one and you don’t have to reserve a place to go you can just freely walk in.
Overall the advert is advertising the food chain its being a reminder of what sort of food
they have here that you can gets sides and deserts, for people hearing it on the radio
and if they are hungry they might suggest it to the people they are with, and having the
humorous and up lifting voice and music makes it memorable and remembering the tag
line ‘its okay’ by using this they are trying to create a catchphrase so that when you
remember them words, it would atomically remind you of Nandos, If they heard that
somewhere the amount of times the advert repeats it which is five times throughout the
advert it would make them think of Nandos.
