could you Imagine what it would be like to grow up as a performer in a world that didn't even
except female Tejano singers? Can you imagine how much courage and work it would take to make
it to the top? That's was Selena Quintanilla Perez had to go through. Selena was born in Lake
Jackson, Texas on April 6th, 1971 to Abraham and Marcella Quintanilla. Abraham was a shipping
clerk for a chemical company and Marcella was a housewife. Abraham being a well respected
Mexican musician, who only sang English songs, and had his career ruined because of that.
American people didn't respect him because he was Mexican, and the Mexican people did not
respect them because they sang English songs. By the time Selena reached age 10, it became very ...

Unfortunatly after the Texas Oil Bust of 1981, the restaurant went bankrupt and had to be shut
down. So Abraham bought a bus and "Selena Y Los Dinos" began to tour the Texas countryside. At
age 13 Selena had to leave 8th grade and start taking high school correspondence courses by mail.
Selena sang almost exclusively Spanish. She sang a Tex–Mex pop called Tejano. They made there
first recording in 1984, slowly people started to notice and love Selena, but by her being a female
Tejano performer, no one thought she would actually last, because the Tejano industry of music was
ruled over by men, and although many women had tried, they rarely made it to stardom. Little did
they know that "Selena Y Los Dinos" would climb the charts and end up being the top Tejano band
in the country. It was in 1987, that they really started to make it to the top. All the recording and
touring throughout the 80's finally paid off, because in 1987 "Selena y Los Dinos" came to national
attention, when Selena won a Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist and Performer of the Year. It
was a great accomplishment for a 15 year old girl. Until then the two categories didn't even exist.
Her fame was definitely being brought to the Latino communities, but Selena wanted more. In 1989,
Selena and her band were signed to EMI, also known as Capitol Records, releasing there album a
year later. Over the next few years

Analysis Of Madea Goes To Jail
The humorous yet intriguing play, "Madea Goes To jail", by Tyler Perry, is about a silly yet serious
woman named Madea who finds herself in jail after refusing to pay for gas in her car. Regardless of
the circumstances, she gave her brand advice and wisdom to her friends and family as they learn the
importance of letting go, moving on, and forgiveness. The play opens on Vanessa, who is Madea's
deceased sister's son's wife(Sonny). Sonny entered the room looking for his work shirt, so he could
pay for Vanessa's child and school. Vanessa refused to help him, claiming on completing her
studying and learning. Ella then entered searching for Madea. And tells Vanessa about herself and
tells her she not a real woman. Nate then entered the scene to pick up Sonny and take him to work.
When Sonny gets to work he sees Madea in a cell. She tells Sonny about the incident and asks him
to bring bail money from home. Madea then meets Chico, a woman with three boys, Katie who has
been in jail for nine years for stabbing her ex–husband, a pimp that tried to kill his and Katie's
daughter Toni, but now that she's in jail, her daughter has been continuously jumping from foster
home to foster home. Katie's daughter, comes to visit and is shown to have a nasty attitude and

University Concert Essay
I attended the University Singers Fall Cabaret on October 25, 2015. The concert took place in Sursa
Hall at 7:30 p.m. The audience was not completely full, but there were more people than I would
have anticipated for a Sunday evening concert. The audience was a pretty even mixture between
community member and students of the university. Before the concert, there was hardly anything
happening on stage. I assume this was because most of the performers were putting on costumes or
getting make up done for the concert. The first song was "And All That Jazz". "And All That Jazz"
was written by John Kander and Fred Ebb for the musical Chicago. The song was sort of a silly
song about a girl wanting to go out with a guy and after anytime she describes anything she finishes
with, "and all that jazz". The tempo is allegro because it seemed as if the female was excited with
her plans. The dynamics of this song was mezzo–forte because she was not necessarily being overly
loud, but she was not being quiet either. The song was pleasant to listen to and easy to understand
because the song was in English. The only complaint I have about this song is that it said, "And all
that jazz" several times, but that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"Lips are Moving" is a song that was originally recorded by Meghan Trainor and produced by Kevin
Kadish in 2014. The song is an upbeat song that featured Olivia Mitchell as a soloist. The tempo of
the song is allegro; it is a happy tempo even though the lyrics are not. The dynamics of the song is
mezzo–forte because it is just sung in a regular singing voice. The song was fun to listen to because
it was a song I was familiar with and easy to understand the meaning behind it because the words
are in English. The song made me feel happy because of the allegro tempo and it is a fun catchy
song. The lyrics did not make me feel so happy because it was about the girl getting cheated on, but
that doesn't stop it from being stuck in my

quit the show and never finish the season. This would have been a huge problem for ABC, and
luckily JoJo decided to stick it out. In Touch Weekly shared the details about what upset JoJo so
much that she almost gave up on the show. At first, when JoJo started on the show, she was really

and meet JoJo. After that, the source went on to share a bit more saying "Watching the show on TV
has made JoJo see that so many of the guys are totally different people than they claimed. It's like a
kick in the gut. She's realizing that they were just really good actors and that her instincts were right.
Maybe she should have left." People shared that there is a lot of talk about if JoJo Fletcher will find

Animal Rights Vs Peter Singer
Jeremy Bentham states "The question is not, can they reason? nor, can they talk? but can they
suffer?" Vicki Hearne, animal trainer and author of What's Wrong with Animal Rights, and Peter
Singer, author of The Animal Liberation Movement, relate humans to other living beings. Although,
both Hearne and Singer share some similarities towards animal rights their perspective towards
animal suffering differ in definitions and qualities of suffering. Hearne and Singer link animal
suffering to human connection with other living beings. Singer defines suffering as inequality
stating that most individuals believed "human beings were quite distinct from, and infinitely far
above, all forms of animal life." By saying this they're basically putting ... Show more content on

Finding that pillow allows the dog to feel accomplished in a way. She then later states that humans
are the same way describing Mozart's thrill of completing each masterful piece. Although, there are
obvious differences between a dog and human the fact that both set a goal to achieve is no doubt.
Stating that there are no similarities to humans and non–humans would be like saying there is no
way for an only English–speaking male to communicate with a Spanish only speaking female.
According to Vicki, "two different species of organism–have developed improvised ways of
communicating." For example, a dog trainer uses basic command words and hand signals that the
dog responds to and clearly understands. The English male uses his hands to help him explain what
he is attempting to communicate to the Spanish female about. This is what Vicki pushes across in
her article. Both authors, believe there is a common ground between animals and humans. Although
most individuals do not see any similarities there are. Their definition of suffering maybe different,
Vickie believing suffering is due to the lack of happiness and Singer believing suffering refers to
pain of a creature. Specifically, Vickie

Lady Gaga Feminism: End Of Normal
From peaceful protest songs in the 50s and 60s to the socially conscious rap from groups like
N.W.A. and public enemy, music which has become popular has had the capacity to voice social
revolution in the melody and rhythm of their songs. In the book "Gaga Feminism: Sex,Gender, and
the End of Normal", J. Jack Halberstam makes a case for the famous pop singer Lady Gaga to be
considered in these terms for bringing out the inner thoughts of society. Helping her audience come
out of the closet and represent their bodies and gender how they want to and to bring about a
possible "end of normal". Who is Lady Gaga? Some may ask. Of course, Lady Gaga is not her real
name. Her birth name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Lady Gaga is only her stage name.
Lady Gaga is an American singer and songwriter who has become one of the biggest names in the
music industry. She became famous in 2008 for her music and for her performances and she also
caught some eyes with her fashion choices. Two years after she was in Time magazine's list of "100

"pregnant men" and how it disrupted traditional social ideas associated with reproducing and with it

in which "Gaga Feminism" redefines and accepts the concept of family by including single–parent
households, blended families, same–sex parents, and bi–racial

How Does Shakespeare Present Romeo And Juliet's Attitude...
A male will express his enthusiasm towards an attractive female who draws his attention. The play
Romeo and Juliet demonstrates this in Scene I, act 5, lines 44–53, and the song "Michelle". The
play, written by the famous playwright William Shakespeare, gained popularity in 1594. In lines 44–
53, Romeo expresses his feeling about seeing Juliet for the first to the reader. The lyric "Michelle"
comes from a song performed by the Beatles, written by Paul McCartney and John Lennon. The
song portrays a man showing his affection towards a foreign woman "in the only way he can". A
man will show his affection towards a female through his words. In the song Michelle, the singer

Have you ever looked at pop culture icons and wondered why certain celebrities appear in ads?
Especially when the person has no apparent relationship with the product being sold in the ad. It

of some controversy arising in her career. A Rolling Stone article, which displayed too much skin of

Leading the public to believe that she may have been debating on whether or not to tell the truth.

No One Knows About Persian Cats: An Analysis
Diversity is an important and necessary function in any type of society. Many countries embrace
diversity and usually become stronger because of it; however, there are many countries that look
down upon diversity, including parts of the Middle East. The band, Take It Easy Hospital, in the
film "No One Knows about Persian Cats," is oppressed for trying to be diverse by playing Indie–
Rock music and having a lead female singer. The speakers in the Arabic world are also oppressed

Arabic, a once dominant language, is starting to take a back seat to English because of accessibility
and communication on the internet. Instead of accepting diversity and the fact that English has a
place in the Arab speaking world; many officials are discouraging the use of English and forcing
Fusha Arabic on the public at a young age. This is an absurd effort from the government, as Arabic
has influenced many other languages including English words such as admiral and scarlet. Arabic is
also not a completely original language as it has had languages, such as Latin, influence much of the
Arabic vocabulary. Instead of embracing the diversity and unifying the Arab world, the higher
beings reject the language, causing much tension between the government and its citizens. The
people in power do not seem to understand that much of the Arab world does not want to stop
speaking Fusha Arabic completely; instead, want to embrace English as a different mode of

The 's Concept Of Cultural Odor And Fragrance And Girls '...
The Kim Sisters, Wonder Girls, and Girls' Generation, and Nicki Minaj reveal the same aspect of
gender ideology: sexualized female commodities. However, through the process of globalization,
they are represented in different contexts in terms of time and place. Also, feminine sexualities are
depicted in different theme in regard with the level of cultural adaptation, appropriation, or
subversion in the process of globalization. Koichi Iwabuchi's concept of cultural odor and fragrance

Wonder Girls reveal the cultural appropriation to represent their otherness in their performance,
affected by polycentric cultural globalization and advancement and transformation in the cultural
technologies. Basically, the group seems to gain the motif from African–American female groups in
America in the Sixties, who were very popular, and whose sexual appeal was outstanding. Wonder
Girls imitate the U.S. feminine sexualities in Fifties and Sixties through their outfits, hair, and the
gender role as the background singers. They attempt to remind the audience of the sexual fantasy in
the past. However, Wonder Girls appeal their indigenized feminine sexuality as well. For example,
they turn their subordinated and marginalized roles as singers into the main singers who are
spotlighted and become popular. It reveals modernized female sexualities that Korean women have
developed. The mix of two different cultural femininities would help develop sexual fantasy. It
appeals to the viewers not only in the U.S., but also in other Asian countries.
In the same vein, in the Girls' Generation's music video, "I got a boy", two fold of aspects of
feminine gender and sexuality are represented in the context of polycentric cultural globalization
and cultural adaptation. One is cultural feminine typicality, such as aegyo, the other is girl's

Norma Mortensen's Psychodynamic Perspective
During our lives we grow up idolizing icons from all different backgrounds. I know many
individuals idealize Norma Mortensen, but why do they idealize her so much? Norma Mortensen is
also known as Marilyn Monroe. When you ask someone if they know who the icon Marilyn Monroe
is, there is a large percentage that people that have heard of her. Marilyn Monroe is one of the most
iconic people in Hollywood and in history. Norma Mortensen was born in 1926 in Los Angeles. She
did not have the traditional American upbringing that many may have thought she would have had
during that era. Marilyn Monroe was raised by family members, and at times, was even brought up

We can understand why she became this well–known person if she did not have support or a
"normal" childhood. There are seven major perspectives that can help us understand someone's life
and their outcomes. I personally believe that with Marilyn Monroe's life, Psychodynamic
Perspective is a way someone can understand how things went. It explains how the roles of
someone's life experiences, like childhood, can affect the rest of their life. As I said before, she did
not have a typical childhood. She had a rough life before the age of 16. Not having a steady home to
grow up in could make it hard on a person, especially a child. Those are the years we develop most
as humans, and create a foundation on how our lives may become. With her life, it could cause a
sense of misplacement or even change her views of affection. This could alter the way someone
views affection and what they think is normal compared to others. In Monroe's life, she was
abandoned from any reality or normalcy in her life. She did not get that affection and that is an
important part of life. She then had three marriages that did not last that long, and that shows that
even when she did try to have a normal life and find that true love, it just did not work well for her.
This could be one of many reasons why she turned to alcoholism or

Italian Opera vs. French Opera
According to R. Wagner opera does not mean so much a musical work, as a musical, poetical, and
spectacular work all at once; opera is the work par excellence, to the production of which all the arts
are necessary (Sutherland, 1). " Opera starts not with music but with its literary source (story or
plot), whether it be history, biography, fiction, or mythology in the form of poem, play, drama,
novel, or original libretto"(Knapp 6). Opera is a combination of mangled drama, the singers, the
music and many different arts (Knapp, 3). An opera is not an opera without the music. The musical
representation uplifts the words and adds magic to an opera (Knapp 3). The two major components
of an opera are the human singers and the orchestra. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now the French Opera was totally different from the Italian opera. In the French opera the
instruments were more of a focus than the singers. The drama was spoken rather than sung. It was
performed on a tired stage, the high as being reserved for paradise (and the singers), the middle one
for earth, and lowest one for hell (Demuth 4). An operatic a resource that was often overlooked, was
dancing. In the French Opera singing aspect and the orchestra aspect are on the same level as
dancing. Dancing isn't really a major part of the Italian opera (Knapp 10). French Opera was
extremely popular, but only to the French. It wasn't as popular as German opera or Italian opera.
This was mainly because in the French Opera the drama came first and the music came second. The
French language was notoriously difficult to sing properly because of its lack of strong accents
(Knapp 201). To the French, words and actions were far more important than the music so the
composers have really allowed the orchestra to overpower the voice and assume the dominant role
in the opera (Knapp 202). In the French operas you would never see the singing overwhelming the
action. At its best, the French Opera offers the unity of music, drama, and spectacle the art seeks but
seldom attains (Knapp 202). It is live, it is deep and it has something

was being poor. Her family were a low income class family. They had many struggles and when
Selena y Los Dinos started slowly to have their hits, they didn't have as much trouble as before.
After becoming famous she was affluent and loved to help her family.
Another obstacle that she overcame was sexism because Tejano was a male dominated genre.
Woman rarely and was not expected to succeed and basically when Selena came out, she put Tejano

White America is dying. Whites are reported to be dying faster than they are being born. America is
becoming more diverse every year. Interracial marriages are more common than ever before. The
minority population is expected to rise and become the majority. The looming end of white America
has led to racial mimicry, white identity politics, and racism. In Southern California, whites are no
longer the majority in public schools. Throughout my years in school, from kindergarten to high
school, Hispanics and Asians were the majority. There were no whites in the schools I attended.
There were few white teachers in my schools who practiced racial mimicry. In sixth grade, my

Examples Of Desserts
1 INTRODUCTION
Caitlin Hines discusses in her research "Rebaking the Pie: The Woman as Dessert Metaphor" that
there is "a consistent, widespread, generally unconscious and undocumented metaphor in English
equating women–as–sex–objects with desserts" (Hines 1999: 145). Women as dessert metaphor
functions both in linguistic expressions, such as tart and cookie, and in customs, for example women
jumping out of cakes (ibid: 145). Hines argues that the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women
to objects, sexualizes and belittles women, making women seem like powerless, inanimate objects.
Moreover, she makes a point that women are not just objects, but sweet, and not just desserts, but
pieces or slices. She uses Sally McConnell–Ginet's theory that ... Show more content on

Rihanna states that a man wants to "lick the icing off", using cake and eating as metaphors for sex.
Moreover, in the example 4, blowing candles out could be a metaphor for an orgasm.
Unlike Trey Songz and Rihanna's songs, Melanie Martinez's "Milk and Cookies" does not have any
sexual allusions. However, it still depicts the use of the woman as dessert metaphor:
(5) I'm fucking crazy, need my prescription filled Do you like my cookies? They're made just for
you A little bit of sugar, but lots of poison, too (Martinez 2015b)
As Caitlin Hines defines in her research, the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to sinful
and decadent (1999: 148), which is shown in the example 5. In the example, the female singer is
offering her poisonous cookies to the receiver, making a connection with women and cookies. The
example could be interpreted in an abstract sense. The singer is sweet with "a little bit of sugar", but
also sinful: "but lots of poison, too".
R. Kelly's "Cookie" is filled with sexual allusions and is a metaphor for sex:

I believed this was the most upbeat song of the entire musical with the full cast on stage dancing and
singing and the pit orchestra playing along. The tempo is vivace, it is in quadruple meter, and the
tonality is major, being in the key of F major. "I Got You" has a dynamic marking between mezzo
forte and forte, depending on the part of the song. All three textures– monophony, homophony, and
polyphony are used. Again, repetition is found a various numbers of times as the lyrics, "i got you"
are sang. The timbre is composed of the entire pit orchestra; two guitars, two pianos, a drum set, a
bass, and other percussion instruments, but the drum set is heavily featured. The timbre is also
composed of the male and female singers on stage, varying in all voice types– soprano, alto, tenor,
and bass. "I Got You" was the most entertaining and lively song of the show with the differing
pitches of voices, lyrics, and dance parts. I truly enjoyed this number the most and it made for a

Opera Divas
Introduction
Due to the obsession of evoking the 'affections' (emotions) of the audience, 17th century Opera was
seen as the epitome of music in the Baroque era as it combined intense emotions, serious drama,
elaborate staging and costumes as well as it's beautiful singers (Opera Divas). Opera Divas were the
rock–stars of the era and were adored by many noblemen and women, as well as the lower classes
but how did they reach this level of fame? I will be delving deeper into 17th century opera and focus
on the beginnings and development of opera and the rise (and fall) of two popular opera divas :
Francesca Cuzzoni and Farinelli. The Beginnings and Development of Opera
Generally, opera is said to have originated from Florence during the end of the 16th century.1 With
the need to revive the arts of Ancient Greece, they turned to their dramas, which were typically sung
or said in such a way that the emotions of the audience are touched and that they could hear the
words clearly.2 Peri was one of the earliest composers of opera.3 His most well known opera being

Selena Essays

  • 1. Selena Essays could you Imagine what it would be like to grow up as a performer in a world that didn't even except female Tejano singers? Can you imagine how much courage and work it would take to make it to the top? That's was Selena Quintanilla Perez had to go through. Selena was born in Lake Jackson, Texas on April 6th, 1971 to Abraham and Marcella Quintanilla. Abraham was a shipping clerk for a chemical company and Marcella was a housewife. Abraham being a well respected Mexican musician, who only sang English songs, and had his career ruined because of that. American people didn't respect him because he was Mexican, and the Mexican people did not respect them because they sang English songs. By the time Selena reached age 10, it became very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunatly after the Texas Oil Bust of 1981, the restaurant went bankrupt and had to be shut down. So Abraham bought a bus and "Selena Y Los Dinos" began to tour the Texas countryside. At age 13 Selena had to leave 8th grade and start taking high school correspondence courses by mail. Selena sang almost exclusively Spanish. She sang a Tex–Mex pop called Tejano. They made there first recording in 1984, slowly people started to notice and love Selena, but by her being a female Tejano performer, no one thought she would actually last, because the Tejano industry of music was ruled over by men, and although many women had tried, they rarely made it to stardom. Little did they know that "Selena Y Los Dinos" would climb the charts and end up being the top Tejano band in the country. It was in 1987, that they really started to make it to the top. All the recording and touring throughout the 80's finally paid off, because in 1987 "Selena y Los Dinos" came to national attention, when Selena won a Tejano Music Award for Female Vocalist and Performer of the Year. It was a great accomplishment for a 15 year old girl. Until then the two categories didn't even exist. Her fame was definitely being brought to the Latino communities, but Selena wanted more. In 1989, Selena and her band were signed to EMI, also known as Capitol Records, releasing there album a year later. Over the next few years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. University Concert Essay I attended the University Singers Fall Cabaret on October 25, 2015. The concert took place in Sursa Hall at 7:30 p.m. The audience was not completely full, but there were more people than I would have anticipated for a Sunday evening concert. The audience was a pretty even mixture between community member and students of the university. Before the concert, there was hardly anything happening on stage. I assume this was because most of the performers were putting on costumes or getting make up done for the concert. The first song was "And All That Jazz". "And All That Jazz" was written by John Kander and Fred Ebb for the musical Chicago. The song was sort of a silly song about a girl wanting to go out with a guy and after anytime she describes anything she finishes with, "and all that jazz". The tempo is allegro because it seemed as if the female was excited with her plans. The dynamics of this song was mezzo–forte because she was not necessarily being overly loud, but she was not being quiet either. The song was pleasant to listen to and easy to understand because the song was in English. The only complaint I have about this song is that it said, "And all that jazz" several times, but that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Lips are Moving" is a song that was originally recorded by Meghan Trainor and produced by Kevin Kadish in 2014. The song is an upbeat song that featured Olivia Mitchell as a soloist. The tempo of the song is allegro; it is a happy tempo even though the lyrics are not. The dynamics of the song is mezzo–forte because it is just sung in a regular singing voice. The song was fun to listen to because it was a song I was familiar with and easy to understand the meaning behind it because the words are in English. The song made me feel happy because of the allegro tempo and it is a fun catchy song. The lyrics did not make me feel so happy because it was about the girl getting cheated on, but that doesn't stop it from being stuck in my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Vicki, "two different species of organism–have developed improvised ways of communicating." For example, a dog trainer uses basic command words and hand signals that the dog responds to and clearly understands. The English male uses his hands to help him explain what he is attempting to communicate to the Spanish female about. This is what Vicki pushes across in her article. Wagner opera does not mean so much a musical work, as a musical, poetical, and spectacular work all at once; opera is the work par excellence, to the production of which all the arts are necessary (Sutherland, 1). " Opera starts not with music but with its literary source (story or plot), whether it be history, biography, fiction, or mythology in the form of poem, play, drama, novel, or original libretto"(Knapp 6). An operatic a resource that was often overlooked, was dancing. In the French Opera singing aspect and the orchestra aspect are on the same level as dancing. Dancing isn't really a major part of the Italian opera (Knapp 10). French Opera was extremely popular, but only to the French. It wasn't as popular as German opera or Italian opera. This was mainly because in the French Opera the drama came first and the music came second. The French language was notoriously difficult to sing properly because of its lack of strong accents (Knapp 201). To the French, words and actions were far more important than the music so the composers have really allowed the orchestra to overpower the voice and assume the dominant role in the opera (Knapp 202). In the French operas you would never see the singing overwhelming the action. At its best, the French Opera offers the unity of music, drama, and spectacle the art seeks but seldom attains (Knapp 202). It is live, it is deep and it has something ... Women as dessert metaphor functions both in linguistic expressions, such as tart and cookie, and in customs, for example women jumping out of cakes (ibid: 145). Hines argues that the woman as dessert metaphor reduces women to objects, sexualizes and belittles women, making women seem like powerless, inanimate objects. To be honest, the seats were and always have been very uncomfortable due to them being hard plastic; it is not so bad if you are just sitting on them for a couple of minutes, but after a while it becomes horrific. On a positive note, the auditorium was very clean, making it very welcoming. The temperature was very cold in the lobby, though as I went ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believed this was the most upbeat song of the entire musical with the full cast on stage dancing and singing and the pit orchestra playing along. The tempo is vivace, it is in quadruple meter, and the tonality is major, being in the key of F major. "I Got You" has a dynamic marking between mezzo forte and forte, depending on the part of the song. All three textures– monophony, homophony, and polyphony are used. Again, repetition is found a various numbers of times as the lyrics, "i got you" are sang. The timbre is composed of the entire pit orchestra; two guitars, two pianos, a drum set, a bass, and other percussion instruments, but the drum set is heavily featured. The timbre is also composed of the male and female singers on stage, varying in all voice types– soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. "I Got You" was the most entertaining and lively song of the show with the differing pitches of voices, lyrics, and dance parts. I truly enjoyed this number the most and it made for a great ending of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Opera Divas Introduction Due to the obsession of evoking the 'affections' (emotions) of the audience, 17th century Opera was seen as the epitome of music in the Baroque era as it combined intense emotions, serious drama, elaborate staging and costumes as well as it's beautiful singers (Opera Divas). Opera Divas were the rock–stars of the era and were adored by many noblemen and women, as well as the lower classes but how did they reach this level of fame? I will be delving deeper into 17th century opera and focus on the beginnings and development of opera and the rise (and fall) of two popular opera divas : Francesca Cuzzoni and Farinelli. The Beginnings and Development of Opera Generally, opera is said to have originated from Florence during the end of the 16th century.1 With the need to revive the arts of Ancient Greece, they turned to their dramas, which were typically sung or said in such a way that the emotions of the audience are touched and that they could hear the words clearly.2 Peri was one of the earliest composers of opera.3 His most well known opera being the story of Euridice, a Greek tragedy of Orfeo travelling to the underworld and using his ... • 39. My Favorite Home It was a warm sunny day on May 10th, and I decided to have a few of my favorite people to surround me and make my day a lot brighter. I had invited some amazing people over, Marilyn Monroe, Gwen Stefani, Nicki Minaj, Alicia Keys and Demi Lovato. I heard the doorbell ring, I then got up excitedly and welcomed the first guest into my rather small house. I gave Marilyn a hug, looking at her smooth and pale complexion. The outfit she had on was stunning; it was a long white dress with ruffles at the bottom as her top–half was low cut showing off her assets. I lead her to my favorite place in my house which was my dinner table, it featured pictures of all of my favorite people, it was long and wide, so there were over 1000 pictures inside the glass of the table. Marilyn and I would chat for just a little as I heard the doorbell ring again. I got up skipping to the door opening seeing Gwen, Nicki, and Alicia arrive together each of them had little tiny gifts in their hands that were wrapped in silk bows. I gave them each a hug and kindly took their gifts and sat them in the middle of the table, just before I sat down I heard Demi knock on the door as I opened it and welcomed her in. Gwen was wearing a tight red dress that went below her knees as she wore laced heels to tie the theme of her outfit together. While Nicki was wearing something casual yet and a little bit of fire, it was A black dress where the skirt became see–through and they had black flames on them surrounding the ... Now Shakira is now a coach on "The Voice" and is about to release a highly anticipated new self– titled album. I believe Shakira is living after her name. Shakira is an Arabic female given name meaning "thankful" and "grateful". It is a derivative of shukran, which is Arabic for "thanks". Shakira's most passionate mission has been helping thousands of deprived Colombian children whose lives have been torn apart by the country's civil conflict. Shakira's project, for which she is the honorary chair, is the Pies Descalzos Foundation, a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to improving the lives of young Colombians who have been forced to live on the side lines of society. Shakira is one of the most inspiring people in the world and great model to look up to. She is beautiful, kind, a creative and great singer, and simply amazing, with her projects to help Colombians that are dealing with conflict in society. She has evolved into this amazing woman and I believe she should be looked up to from all over the world. She is a Saint and a great coach. She is simply a work of God's insane love.
