To What Extent Did the Treaty of Versailles Weaken Germany...
To what extent did the Treaty of Versailles weaken Germany Democratically, between 1919 to 1929?
The signing of the Treaty of Versailles on the twenty second of June in 1919, would forever psychologically be associated with the long term bitterness
and humiliation of the German public towards the German democracy. The civilian government who agreed to the terms of the treaty, which saw
German suffer a deduction in their army, forced to pay high reparations, deduction of land and population were after known as the "November
Criminals. However factors such as nationalism, the democratic Constitution, lack of democratic tradition within Germany society, pushes from the
extreme left, the army and pushes from the extreme right saw the German ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It remained in Germany but Germany was forbidden to have any military forces in the Rhineland and Austria became a separate country and any future
union with Austria was strictly forbidden. Germany was deemed by the Allied forces to be 'colonially unworthy' and lost all of her colonies, further
angering and outraging German nationalists who had once hoped of Germany having its day in the sun. These terms saw nationalists outraged and
constantly associating the government with the much–hated Treaty of Versailles, leading to revolts from the extreme right, which highlighted the
government's weakness without these important and influential peoples support for the new Germany.
Soon after the new German Democratic Party was sworn in, there was the immediate creation of a new constitution. The new constitution of 1919
guaranteed the basic rights of the German people but it also had weaknesses that undermined the functioning of the Democracy. The voting system of
proportional representation was one such weakness. This system allowed small political parties to gain representation in the Reichstag. This resulted
in political instability and the need for frequent elections. No party was ever able to have the majority of seats and every one of the 21 Weimar
governments was a coalition government. With a coalition it was seen to be impossible to produce effective laws for the German people, as the
majority of the coalition all had different views

Political Moderates, By Morris P. Fiorina
For many of us who would like the be called political moderates, these are troubling times. Despite the repeated calls for bipartisanship and civility,
the reality is that the two parties in Congress are very far apart from each other. Not only is this the case, but it is even getting worse. Far to common
are the party wars and voting along party lines even when it is their represented constituents who suffer. The days of bipartisan problem–solving seam
to be nothing more than a campaign slogan tossed out by hopeful candidates and a phrase that has lost almost all meaning to a numb American public.
Just how did things get to be this way? And what about the supposedly moderate public: how and why do they stand for this? To understand these
questions, a good place to start is Disconnect: The Breakdown of Representation in American Politics, by Morris P. Fiorina, a professor ofPolitical
Science at Stanford University.
Disconnected is essentially a book in two parts. The first is an extensive compendium of data in support of the claim that there is indeed a widening
disconnect between a largely moderate voting public and an ideological polarized political class. The second part is the story of how that disconnect
came about. Fiorina argues in "Disconnect" that America's social evolution has increased the homogeneity within the parties and widened the
differences between them, a dynamic that encourages politicians to "construct electoral coalitions out of group building blocks

Essay On Latin America Turns To The Left
Latin America Turns to The Left Within the last 20 years many Latin American nations have changed course from a neoliberal polity to one that is
sided more to the left wing spectrum. "A significant part of Latin America is governed today by political movements and governments that call
themselves 'leftist' or are classified as such by external observers." (Luna) Furthermore, the shift in direction politically has been classified by 3
factors; "1) opposing incumbents by mobilizing economic and political discontent; 2) being able to bring together a broad, socially heterogeneous
electoral constituency in the context of fragmented societies; and 3) having a charismatic leader who was able to achieve 2 by pursuing 1." (Luna) These

This tension deeply erodes the regime's material foundations and leads citizens to look for better alternatives for reconciling the economy with
politics." (Lynch) This idea of reconciling the economy and providing equality is the same rhetoric that all of the above mentioned leaders used while
they were running for office. "Most observers agree that various left–wing parties, movements, and leaders in Latin America share a common
commitment to egalitarianism; a willingness to use the state to balance market forces; and a belief in the importance of popular participation."
(Cameron) When examining the relationship between a population and it's connection to the state, a clearer picture can be found that sheds light on
how the shift to more left or left of center polities have begun to rise. "In Latin America, there are cases such as Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and
Mexico, in which the identification between nation and state is very strong. In other countries like Guatemala, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru such identity
is weak. The ethnic aspect lends to play a crucial role in the degree of identification between population and state.... This also means that those countries
that are more advanced in terms of state formation, and that show a stronger identification between the state and its population, have better conditions
for the establishment of democratic left–wing governments." (Lynch) Ultimately, these dramatic shifts

Freedom Of Speech : The Importance Of Free Speech Zones
In the historical year of 1787, the United States Constitution was signed. The very first amendment giving United States citizens freedom of speech.
The founding fathers understood that free speech was the most important aspect of the country. They believed every citizen should be able to express
his or her beliefs without fear of prosecution or punishment. Two hundred and thirty years later, in 2017, the most important constitutional right is
being challenged by the so–called "College Left." The challengers are Free Speech Zones. According to the Foundation for Individual Rights in
Education (FIRE), Free Speech Zones force anyone with an opinion to fill out a form ten days in advance, wait for his or her opinion to be
approved, then speak only in the Free Speech Zone. If a student dares say his or her opinion outside of the zone, if the college deems it "hateful," he
or she could be expelled. Free Speech Zones have done nothing to help the nation and have only hurt its people, causing political splits,
brainwashing, and created even more tensions in the country; therefore, all of the Free Speech Zones that remain on campuses today must be
removed. While college professors in favor of Free Speech Zones (FSZs) claim to help protect the safety of students by stopping hateful and
destructive protests, the primary purpose of FSZs is to silence the opinion of anyone who dares disagree with the Ivory Tower of politically correct
culture. For example, countless times, the

Struggle Of Family And War
Struggle of Family and War
Our family life was pretty good. My husband Anthony would go to work and the kids played. But that didn't last for long. I had to pay taxes for
things like sugar and documents and if that didn't put me into debt then there was the tea act and that angered us all because we already paid tax
and now tea! Even though it is way less of tax I could be a trick. We don 't even get Representation so why are we paying these taxes! Thankfully we
have the Sons of Liberty to show Britain to back off and we formed a unity with the colonies called the "Committees of Correspondence". But even
that did not last. Shortly after, Britain banned the Committees of Correspondence and what affected me most was that they forced us to buy the tea and
if we didn't they would close the Boston harbor.
My husband says, "we don't need to pay for the tea we can wait for others to pay for the tea and then get the thing we want." But that is not what I do
first of all I need my tea, and second I feel like I should help the other people to pay for the tea. You thought this was it? Well it's not, there was then
the Townshend act which let british soldiers live in out house and take all of our things. This just got my family into debt, deep debt.
Today my family still is in debt and I still can't pay it off and now when my two little girls want something I have to say no, but they don 't cry or
throw a fit they just frown and look outside. They 're smart little kids and I

The Stranger
The Stranger
I stood before my house in horror. Cars flashed by on a nearby street as red and blue lights flashed onto the walls of the building. It all began on a
Saturday morning. My parents were sitting at the table with full pancakes on their plates, while I had a half of one on mine, and the other half
being smashed with my teeth. Suddenly, a doorbell rang. I got up from my seat, still chewing on half of my pancake, and walked to the door. Each
step I took on the tile floor was cold and slippery because I had mopped them ten minutes ago. As I approached the front door, I began to hear what
appeared to be screaming. It seemed that the sound would get louder the closer I stepped. While I was walking toward the door, I began to think.
"What is that noise? Is somebody hurt? I'd better hurry and find out," I began to walk quickly, then more quickly, until I was running. I reached the
door and threw it open. Immediately, I saw a man. His back was facing me. "Are you okay?" I asked loudly, so that he could hear me over his
screams. I suddenly had a terrible feeling. It was the kind of feeling that makes a person feel suddenly cold. The man stopped crying. His head
turned very slowly towards me. "Hello, little kid," he said with a smile. His teeth were yellow and his eyes looked like he hadn't slept in years. "Hi.
Are you hurt?" I asked. The man just stood there, smiling and staring at me. After what felt like forever, he said, "Thank you for asking. I'm perfectly
fine," he

The Party For Freedom And The Socialist Party
By definition, Nationalism is an ideology in which a group's recognition and espouse of their identity, as a nation, is expressed based on a common
origin, in addition to the desire to spread their global influence. Through analysis of the Netherlands Party for Freedom (PVV) and the Netherlands'
Socialist Party (Socialistische Partij) alongside the World Values Survey, I will assess the values of each party and compare their supporters through
various variables in order to further examine Nationalism. In comparison of the Party for Freedom and the Socialist Party, I will focus on the
country's answer toward the question: "Which party would you vote for if there were a national election tomorrow," as well as analyze the various
demographics involved. The Netherlands is run based upon a parliamentary representative democracy with both parties analyzed containing the same
number of seats within the parliament. Thus, both parties, despite having different worldviews, carry similarities throughout the nationalistic views of
the Dutch people. In order to inaugurate the analysis, we must begin by determining the nationalistic views within the Netherlands and understand the
basis behind each party. The Party for freedom is a right–wing nationalist party, while the Socialist Party is a left–wing social democratic party. Within
the current politics of the Netherlands, both parties control an equal number of seats with 15 being in the House of Representatives and 9 being within

What Does Europe Want?
Late in his life, Freud asked the famous question "Was will das Weib?", "What does a woman want?", admitting his perplexity when faced with the
enigma of the feminine sexuality. A similar perplexity arouses today, apropos the Brexit referendum: what does Europe want?
The true stakes of this referendum become clear if we locate it into its larger historical context. In Western and Eastern Europe, there are signs of a
long–term re–arrangement of the political space. Till recently, the political space was dominated by two main parties which addressed the entire
electoral body, a Right–of–centre party (Christian–Democrat, liberal–conservative, people's...) and a Left–of–centre party (socialist,
social–democratic...), with smaller parties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
So what does Europe want? Basically, Europe is caught into a vicious cycle, oscillating between the Bruxelles technocracy unable to drag it out of
inertia, and the popular rage against this inertia, a rage appropriated by new more radical Leftist movements but primarily by Rightist populism. The
Brexit referendum moved along the lines of this new opposition, which is why there was something terribly wrong with it. To see this, one should only
look at the strange bedfellows that found themselves together in the Brexit camp: right–wing "patriots," populist nationalists fuelled by the fear of
immigrants, mixed with desperate working class rage... is such a mixture of patriotic racism with the rage of "ordinary people" not the ideal ground
for a new form of Fascism?
The intensity of the emotional investment into the referendum should not deceive us, the choice offered obfuscated the true questions: how to fight
"agreements" like TTIP which present a real threat to popular sovereignty, how to confront ecological catastrophes and economic imbalances which
breed new poverty and migrations, etc. The choice of Brexit means a serious setback for these true struggles – suffice it to bear in mind what an
important argument for Brexit was the "refugee threat." The Brexit referendum is the ultimate proof that ideology (in the good

Why Is 1968 A Turning Point In 1968
The year 1968 was a significant moment in the postwar period as it witnessed the greatest social and political upheaval throughout the world. It is
understood as a metaphor for the larger mobilization cycle that took place in the long Sixties and in the Seventies. The events of that year marked a
turning point in the emergence of a cohort of young people comprising students and workers who had come confronting the established authority and
social conventions. Embedded in anti–authoritarian and individualistic, libertarian and socialistic as well as democratic, anti–institutional, and
anti–bureaucratic values, student groups and worker unions across organized protests and demonstrations against the established institutions of Western

The sentiment was intensified with the growing opposition to the Vietnam War. Fascism was still an open chapter for many young German students.
They were upset on the reluctance of the older generations in incorporating anti–Fascist ideas to the country's constitution. The Bonn Republic's support
for the U.S. in Vietnam did not bode well with the student. The U.S. was perceived as equally immoral as the Hitler regime. In brief, West German
radical Leftist criticised the Bonn Republic for its present imperialist–capitalist associations and for its past fascist ones and viewed themselves as the
true victims of the far–right dominance. The German radical Left eventually distanced themselves from Willy Brandt's Social Democratic Party and
adopted Third World's Marxists–Leninist' variation, Maoism, exemplified with strong anti–Western emphasis. The situation reached its peak in 1968
when the student movement failed to stop the Bundestag from legalising Emergency Law which were due to be passed, would allow the government
to limit civil rights in the case of an emergency. This marked the decline of the student movement culminated in the disbandment of Sozialistische
Deutsche Studentenbund, the biggest student union in West Germany and its resurrection in later years proved of no

Political Parties Are Essential For The Success And...
Political parties are fundamental to building democracy. These parties are organized by people with a wide range of policy preferences, who then
recruit, and run slates of candidates for office. Political parties do this in an attempt to capture control of the National and State government(s). When a
political party controls the government, they are then capable of legislating public, and foreign policy aligned with their party's ideology and
preferences. An important way to look at the importance of political parties is to consider all the things they do.
Countless decisions are made by political parties every day. Although they make poor decisions and choices sometimes, many issues are quite complex
and lack clear answers. Indeed, there are still a myriad of benefits to having political parties in American government. Whether it's simplifying voting,
or promoting compromise and deliberation, political parties are instrumental to the success and longevity of the United States.
A noticeable advantage of having political parties in America is that they simplify voting. Voting isn't always easy to do in the first place. A myriad
of reasons explain why people don't vote. Whether it's a lack of time to vote, the distant location of where one has to vote, the early date people need
to register to vote in some states, or just a lack of interest in politics, countless people do not end up making it to the polls to vote on Election days.
Political parties, in short, are effective

Definition And Characteristics Of Collective Identity In...
Collective Identity Definition: Characteristics of a large group that many individuals share. A collective identity can be attributed to nationality,
ethnicity, age, gender, geographical region, culture, religion, etc. Example: French Canadians all share a common language, heritage, and culture. They
can trace their ancestries back to the French colonists who settled on Canadian soil. Most of Canada's French Canadian population are now residing in
the Province of Quebec. Identifying as French Canadian is the collective identity that all these people share. Graphic image and explanation: The above

collective identities for many people. Collectivism/Common Good Definition: The notion that a group should focus on what would benefit everyone,
rather than individual desires. Example: Following the inauguration of the United States' President Donald Trump, people all over the world
participated in the 2017 Women's march. During his campaign, Donald Trump had said controversial comments that many viewed as "anti–women".
People put aside their differences and protested human rights together as a way to make their voices heard. Marching together would be in the best
interests of everyone in the United States and their uncertain future. Graphic image and explanation: This image is relevant to collectivism as it shows

The Failure of the Progressive Movement
Although the Progressive Era managed to solve much of the backwater left over from Industrialization, it failed in regards to discrimination. America
would have to wait decades later for the issue of civil equality to truly be addressed. Due to the apathy of the politicians during that time, the desperate
need for a scapegoat, and the hypocrisy people displayed when confronted with the topic, the movement that was intended to achieve "progress" in
society completely forgot about equality.
Possibly a result of the lingering sentiments of racism from the time of slavery, politicians remained unwilling to confront the idea of discrimination.
Hopeful candidates running for any public office had to appease as many voters as possible, and this often meant not angering those who still held
onto racist ideologies. One can clearly see Taft attempting to skirt the issue of discrimination in his inaugural address in 1909. Here the president
states that racial inequality in the South was a non issue and should be allowed to fix itself. One year later in 1910, Roosevelt gave his "New
Nationalism" speech to the people of Osawatomie, Kansas. He makes the declaration that the government should not be influenced by special interest
groups, which is essentially a nice way of saying that he will do nothing about discrimination. Both presidents, who were considered by many to be
progressive approached inequality with a lazy, slothful demeanor, so it is hardly surprising that the issue was

The Influence of Pressure Groups on the Government Essay
The Influence of Pressure Groups on the Government
This essay will outline the significance to which pressure groups have an influence on government and explain how they have fared under New Labour
governments.
Whilst the term 'pressure groups' may be relatively new, the concept itself dates back as far as 1787. The Society for Effecting the Abolition of the
Slave Trade was led by William Wilberforce and Thomas Clarkson and successfully campaigned for the abolition of the slave trade. (Jones, 2004, p233)
Pressure groups are formed by a group of people who share a common interest or goal. The intention of the group is to raise the profile or the cause
and/or advance it. Unlike political ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Insider groups will regularly be consulted by the government. This consultative role is built up if a group has demonstrated a number of features:
Authority – the ability of the group to speak on behalf of all of its members. Information – the group has expertise and information on a specific
subject. Compatibility – of the objectives with that of the government. Compatibility – of the groups objectives with public sympathies. Track record –
of giving good advice. Possession of powerful sanctions – if a group has the ability to seriously affect society through withdrawal of their services their
interests may be viewed more sympathetically. (Jones, 2004, p239)
Governments recognise the usefulness of pressure groups as a valuable source of information and expertise in helping them formulate policies.
Governments will often consult with insider groups to find out about problems with their current policies along with suggestions for how this could
be improved or to gauge negative feedback to new policies. By consulting the insider groups, government can also lend legitimacy to the policy. This
is referred to as policy networking. (Jones, 2004 p237)
In complete contrast to insiders groups, outsider groups have no direct access to the decision makers, as they do not fulfil the criteria laid down
previously.
With these distinctions is mind, it

The Importance Of Artifice In Society
Although many people may like to think of America as a honest and moral nation, it is no secret that artifice has cemented itself as an indispensable
skill, exploited by many to achieve their own ambitions. Artifice, characterized through the usage of cunning devices or expedients to deceive others,
is often utilized by politicians and organizations to help push their own agendas. As illustrated by Chris Hedges in his social commentary, Empire of
Illusion, "artifice" has emerged to become so ubiquitous and essential throughout American society, whether in business or the entertainment industry.
Essential, in the essence that without it, people in any industry are more likely to be disadvantaged in achieving their personal goals. In today's
modern world, no area has seen more abuse of artifice than in the field of media and politics. Its common knowledge that newspapers skew reports to
their own biases and politicians often tell half–truths to cover–up ulterior motives. Unfortunately, these politicians and media giants hold extremely
influential positions in society, and their usage of artifice is extremely damaging to the integrity and accountability within the United States. As a
result, the press as well as the general populace must utilize free speech to expose this behavior. Despite the complete immorality of the usage of
artifice, such chicanery remains essential for success in media and politics. Artifice generated through the media plays a pivotal role in the spread

The Causes And Effects Of The Social Media Scare
The Social Media Scare
Propaganda, a tool that has been used to influence the beliefs of the masses throughout the ages. It can be used for good such as the British During
WW2 to keep the spirit of the British people in the war and it can be used for evil such as Nazi propaganda that dehumanized the
Jewish people. While propaganda is good at influencing people, it fails at spreading the truth of matters. Often propaganda relies on an enemy to
dehumanize, to do this propagandist often lie or stretch the truth to convert people to their cause. This is what the American media has become, nothing
more than propaganda for either the right or the left. The effect of this is social media, that is filled with forging influences, media bias, and causes echo
cambers. These factors that are crumbling the foundation of American democracy.
American democracy cannot function if foreign powers can exert influence within
American social media. Foreign powers do not have the best interest of the American people in mind when they try and influence American media.
When Foreign powers try to influence
American media, they do it to further their own goals. Such as what Russia attempted during the 2016 election. "Over 3,000 global news outlets also

I Left My Native Country Costa Rica Essay
Midterm Assignment
In 2002, I left my native country Costa Rica. I left everyone and everything that once matter to me. When I first arrive to Canada to my mother's
house, I didn't know what to expect, I didn't know what was coming. The language and culture were not the same; everything was so new to me. I
had to adapt, the lifestyle was rapidly and noisy. Back in my native country everything was so different, it was a little town, where I could walk to
school or ride my bicycle and my mother wouldn't have to worry. Toronto was a big city, but on top of being bigger than my hometown it was cold
and the days were shorter. It was 2004 when my mother decided that United States seems like a better alternative to live, and once again I was leaving
everything behind.

didn't know if I was able to go to College or not, I never looked into it because I wasn't sure, I never liked School, but I did know one thing and that
was I wanted to help those who were in need. I have learned through my years that values, beliefs and ethics can have a profound effect on the
decisions people make on a daily basis.

Il Grande Sogno, otherwise known as the big dream, is a complex story of love. It just happens to be during a time of political turmoil, when the
student protests in the 1960s were happening. In 1968 many students led occupations occurred in the University of Rome. In similar fashion, the
movement raised in several Eastern Bloc countries following World War II. The goals of the student movement were that of social reform; such as
anti–capitalism, anti–imperialism, anti–racism, civil and political rights, environmentalism, feminism, and liberalization. To put this in another way, the
student movement was an embrace of the New Left wing political party. On March 1, 1968, the right–wing and left–wing students stood together at

and a lover of art. He never shied away from the fact that he was a partisan of both politics and art. Safdar Hashmi, who was steeped in political
awareness and deeply in love with theatre identified that street theatre is the most suitable form for his political expression (Tanvir, Memorial
Lectures 3). As the effort of the street theatre is to locate theatre back to the people, day to today survival issues of the common people is projected as
the themes of JANAM's plays. According to Safdar Hashmi, plays of the street theatre must express the sentiments of downtrodden and the oppressed
people as he considers street theatre as people's theatre and so the themes of the plays must have a close connection with popular mass movements.

Section D: Analysis
This paper is answering to the question: ''to what extent did the left wing political opposition lead to the Spanish Civil War, 1936–1939?'' There are
many factors that influenced and that caused the Spanish Civil War breakout, however this essay is focusing in 4 long run causes, more specifically:
the role of the Spanish Army, the role of the Church, the nature of the economy and the new left wing ideologies.
The Spanish army had a very powerful influence in politics, due to its role in Spain's imperial past. It was likely to be compared as the protector of the
nation. The Spanish army had already intervened before in politics several times, the last one in 1936, breaking out the war. It did not have an appeal
on the working class, since they were very brutal, and more important, very expensive to maintain with very high taxes. They were more likely to be
related to the middle–high class, and therefore even more unlikely to cause an appeal on the Spanish labour force. For this labour force the Spanish
Army was just a symbol of fascist authority. After the progressive Popular Front was selected, the middle–high class already planned a military
offensive against the leftists' ideologies.
The second factor discussed is the role of the Church. The Church, as always has been,

The Progressive Era
Throughout American history there have been many periods of transformation. These transformations aren't always apparent to them and many other
times they have no idea it is happening until decades later. Regardless of what happened in different eras of history one thing always holds true, it
made America who they are as a country. From the late19th century into the early 20th century America went through one of these transformations
with the birth of the progressive era. It left it's imprint on American culture and will continue to for decades to come. The decades that worried
America and its future were shortly after the Civil War. The political, social, and economic abuses were threatened. Although Progressivism began
as a social movement, it grew into a political movement. By giving power to the public with the opportunity to participate more directly in the
political process and limiting the power of big city bosses. For the public to achieve these goals they needed a political reform. This reform
included the idea of direct primary, an election giving all members of the party a chance to have a say in nominations. The idea of putting proposed
laws on the ballot, usually by getting a certain amount of people to sign petitions. They also wanted the public to be able to vote for whom they
wanted in the state legislature. By giving voters the power to remove officials from office through petitions or a vote would definitely be a huge step
in making the public feel

Council's Communism: The Role Of Women In Politics
While the Council's positions were firm, its limited power meant it often had to make concessions for organizations to adopt its ideas. Mandatory
quotas, for instance, were proposed but did not pass, as nominating organizations claimed they simply needed more time to hire women on their own.
An agreement was reached, stating that mandatory quotas would only be introduced if the initial targets – 30 percent by 1992, 40 percent by 1995, and
50 percent by 1998 – were not reached (Sainsbury, 2004).
In 1985, the Council was reshaped as an expert commission, focused on a single issue at a time. After extensive research, the commission produced a
final report laying down concrete targets, and its members were charged to convince key recruiters to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
in Heider and Pedersen, 2006). This theory states that any minority can only impact decision if their number exceeds a certain threshold, or critical

percent female members the female 'group' would be able to influence the men to the extent that the gender gap was smaller than in more
male–dominated parties". They refer to this idea as the "critical mass harmonization hypothesis". While a small minority of women might make
concessions to the men in their party, they tend, in a larger number, to grow in confidence and be assertive enough to convince their male counterparts.
This hypothesis is supported by the fact that Norwegian parties present fewer gender differences in political opinion than Denmark, whose parties count

Polarization Between American Politics And Politics
As with much political science, the concept of polarization can be a bit murky. Inferring from the term itself, one could say that polarization in
American politics refers to a widening of the gap between what could be called the average left–wing and right–wing politician, voter, or ideology on a
standard political spectrum. Another examination of the term could result in a definition regarding the lack of cooperation between the two major
American political parties. Although, it would be more accurate to say that both examinations of the term are correct – and that polarization can create
an environment in which the two main modes of thinking are largely incompatible. Proceeding from a definition, one might speculate how polarization

Understanding polarization is important because it has often been acknowledged as one of the most problematic process currently undergoing
American political institutions. Several scholars, regardless of their school of thought, have described it as having the potential to cause a
self–destruction of Congress (Farina 1690–691). There are several consequences that are currently apparent in today's political landscape, including
"institutional stalemate and associated political misbehavior (Farina 1691)." It is important to note that there is empirical evidence that "congressional
polarization has been steadily and consistently increasing since the 1980s (Farina 1701)." In this event, it is understandable why political scholars are
so entrenched in discovering the sources of polarization.
There are several theories that attempt to accurately calculate the causes of polarization, but most of these theories only find moderate culprits – few of
these theories and studies find a catch–all cause of polarizaton. One study, completed by Jesse Sussell and James A. Thomson, points to population
clustering as a factor in polarization. In their study, they examine the shifts in population and their contribution to polarization in the U.S. House of
Representatives. In other words, this study claims that the growing disparities between liberal and conservative locations (such as large cities and rural
towns,

What Type Of Body Language? Essay
Employee Interaction Body language is the postures, facial expressions, and gestures we make to communicate. Body language can be used in place of
words or it can be accompanied by spoken language. This form of language allows those involved in a conversation to understand communication with
others more easily and effectively. The way a person stands, moves and focuses their attention allows others to notice and understand how the person
feels in a situation. If someone is not comfortable in a situation, they may say they are comfortable, but could look down, keep their feet together or
crossed, and they may hold their arms close to their body. This signals to the others that this person is not comfortable. Employee interactions with
customers and other employees is unique in that their interactions with customers are very different from their interactions with each other. While
conducting research on employee interactions at an apple orchard in central Maine on a Saturday and Sunday morning, I asked myself the following
questions: What type of body language was used while communicating with the customer? What gestures did the employee and the customer make?
How was this different from the body language and gestures made between co–workers? These questions are essential to the research, because asking
the questions during observations allows for more accurate and detailed observation. The questions guide the research and keeps it focused on the
movements of the chosen

How Did Ewan Mccoll Have Left-Wing Politics
During the 1950's, disenchantment with commercial music led many to look for alternatives. This led to a revival of folk music in Britain that gained
momentum during the 50's and surged ahead rapidly in the 60's. (11) Left–wing political activist and folk musician Ewan McColl is considered by
most to be the godfather of this folk music revival. (5) Born Jimmie Miller (14), McColl was a successful playwright, folk musician (1) and highly
acclaimed radio broadcaster. (2) He was active in left–wing politics from his teenage years and conscripted into the British Army in 1940. (19) After
five months he deserted the army, going on the run for the remainder of the war and eventually changing his name to Ewan McColl. (19) McColl
produced a number of collections of folk music during his career, including collections of sea shanties he worked on with A.L. Lloyd (17) and
collections of industrial songs he produced both alone and with his third wife Peggy Seeger. (17) McColl's left–wing political beliefs and practices
were heavily tied up with his collection of folk music. He saw folk music as a way to engage the working class and working class issues (18) and used
his folk music collections to do this. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Hegemony In Australia
Media sources in current culture are construed as important as they communicate the dominant ideology promoted by the bourgeois which the
lower–class public should adhere to as the correct social norm (Kress, 1988). The medium which these ideologies are shown in are important, as
different medium are used by different cultures. This essay will focus on comparing print with online media through analysing the Guardian and the
Australian from August 31st. This will be done by looking at the types of news shown in each, the constraints and advantages of each medium,
advertising, the concept of ownership, and the way the media convinces the public of their ideologies through hegemony.

As "journalism is built on credibility," (Cassidy, 2007, p. 478) one of the main comparisons between print and online is the ability that online
media provides for following up sources. Cassidy states that "online journalists .... Make allowances for interactivity, and asses ways of
connecting related stories to each other via hyperlinks," (Cassidy, 2007, p. 482) which can be shown in the Guardian as stories related to the
article can be seen hyperlinked to the left. Similarly by using the Guardian's online archive, the reader is able to search for previous articles on the
subject, as well as look up the credibility alongside the article. As the Australian is print, the only way to be able to see previous editions and articles
would be to find a collection of the papers. Similarly, the availability of linking similar texts is constrained to only the stories already mentioned in the
current edition, meaning that if the reader is interested in finding out more on the topic they will have to find another source. The format of each
differs significantly, as the Guardian has each article linked from a quote and sometimes a picture, and despite the Australian having continued stories
on later pages, the format is constrained to small text boxes. Having articles online allows for large amounts of space and easy to read text along with
a colourful format to

Turkey After The Fall Of The Ottoman Empire
After the fall of the Ottoman empire, Turkey received a new identity as Modern Turkey. With Turkey being home to over 45 different ethnic and
religious groups, this makes it a diverse and unique nation. This goes to show how unity is important in a diverse country like Turkey for its future
success. All of these contribute to the cultural makeup of this country. Turkey's current population is 78 million. According to a report, 70% of
Turkey's youth population will reach working age by the year 2023. (United Nations 87). This goes to show that right now there is a very large young
population in Turkey that is on the verge of joining the workforce. This will dramatically affect the economy in Turkey. As it relates to society, this has
great cultural implications, because the next generation will make up the moral fabric of society.
In order to understand the Turkish youth culture, it is important to first understand the current political climate in Turkey, because politics can
determine the mood of a country and its culture. Turkey's party system currently consists of four main political parties, the Justice and Development
Party, Republican People's Party, Nationalist Movement Party, and the Peoples' Democratic Party. Each party has a huge political clout in the country,
especially in the specific regions in Turkey. All the parties have an enormous bulge of youth supporters which contribute greatly.

The Election Of 2016, By Milton Friedman, Joseph Stalin,...
After taking these two quizzes, I was really intrigued by the results because I have never really taken surveys like these and it was interesting to
learn more about myself and political views. On the first quiz, which was the political compass, the results stated that I am more of a Liberal
leftist. When looking at the results in comparison to different leaders, I noticed that I was placed closest to Nelson Mandela. Also, when I
compared my results specifically to the candidates in the Presidential Election of 2016, I was farthest from Donald Trump and closest to Jill Stein.
I think that I was pretty well matched on this quiz, but I don't agree with some of the details. I believe that this was a good match because on the
very first chart after taking the quiz, the people shown were Adolf Hitler, Margaret Thatcher, Milton Friedman, Joseph Stalin, and Mahatma Gandhi.
On this chart, I was placed closest to Gandhi, who was a liberal leftist and believed in the supreme value of every individual, which is something that
is extremely important to me. He also believed that peace was essential in life. Although I agree with him on this specifically, I don't fully agree with
absolutely no violence at all. Sometimes we need protection against other countries and attacks, etc. However, he fought hard to lead India to
independence and he stimulated movements for freedom and civil rights in and across the world. I certainly agree that I should be placed closed to

Advantages Of Welfare State Retrenchment
INTRODUCTION According to some theories the creation of welfare state was partly a result of a power struggle between different social classes.
The working class was at the head of the emerging social movements, which pushed the welfare state ahead. Social democratic parties were
representing the working classes' interests and successfully implemented social institutions and norms that are prevailing until today. These institution
in a broad sense of term are forming the body of welfare state with all its modalities, changes and obstacles across the developed regions. Social
democratic parties can't of course take the credit for installing the welfare states themselves. However, they were significant actors and players when it
came to defending... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However they did not succeed entirely, mostly because of the so called welfare state 'path dependency' defined in the Pierson's book Dismantling the
welfare state?: Reagan, Thatcher, and the politics of retrenchment. The social benefits turned out to be crucially important to voters and even the
neoliberal government did not dare to cut off the benefits in order to be able to gain votes. Most analyses have showed that the welfare states were
stable and resistant to most attempts of retrenchments introduced by governments and even though if some cut offs passed, the nature of welfares state
has not changed. The resistance of welfare state's institutions is extraordinary, no government would dare to significantly change or cancel the core
social expenditures (eg. pensions). However that does not imply that the welfare states are stagnant, unchangeable, robust institutions. Welfares states
are evolving and according to Bruno Palier every type of welfare state has its own path of dependency and welfare states differentiate between diverse
periods of time, political system and types of changes introduced by governments. There is no such thing as a single recipe for the welfare retrenchment
and neither a single pattern for welfare state evolution. The uniformity of the welfare state historical stages was often criticized for theoretical and
empirical simplification thus the last period of retrenchment suffers from the same

Essay on The Situational Leadership Model
The Situational Leadership Model
Situational leadership is interplay between the amounts of direction that a leader allows in: 1) the amount of directive (task) behavior and 2) the
amount of relationship behavior (supportive behavior). What this means is that when an individual first begins a new task they require a lot of
direction and managerial guidance. As they learn more about the task, the amount of direction decreases until they can make many of the decisions
with the manager providing little input. The situational leadership model developed and refined by Paul Hersey and Ken Blanchard divides the model

THE FOUR LEADERSHIP STYLES
[IMAGE]
We begin in the lower right quadrant, S1 directing leadership style. This phase is where the new employee or older employeelearning a new task begins.
The directing will require that the leader define the roles of the follower. The leader initiates problem solving and decision–making and directs
communication towards the follower. The leader will tell the follower what to do, how to do it, where to do it, and when to do it. Close supervision is
also involved at this point. The X–axis beginning point is to the extreme right (high directive) indicating that leader will be providing directions. The
rectangular object showing development levels is also to the extreme right but here it signifies that the amount of learned knowledge (amount of
development to perform task) is low. The beginner may become enthusiastic about wanting to learn. They will probably be highly committed but
competence will be low. The Y–axis is on the bottom end showing us that supportive behavior is at a low point.
The second quadrant is located in the upper right, S2 coaching leadership style. This phase is where the leader listens to the follower, provides support
and encourages the follower's efforts, and facilitates involvement with problem solving and decision–making. Communication flows between leader
and follower. The X–axis beginning point is to the

Why I Am A Doctor
It makes sense that if you see something that threatens you or anybody else, you would want to intervene somehow. One day, I was doing exactly
that, yet my imagination got the better of me, because of how doubtful I was of the person's intentions. First of all, I was at the supermarket
buying some groceries in the afternoon on a sunny summer day. As I walked to my car outside, I saw somebody dressed in dark jeans, a black hoodie,
and very used looking tennis shoes. I have always been interested in mysteries, even though I'd just gotten a degree to be a doctor a few months ago. I

destination was. I used the same approach the next block, but this time the individual turned right, walked across the other side of the block, and
crossed the street right in front of me. The man glanced at me contingently, probably because I was eyeballing him to see what he would do next.
My way of following him was abolished because of his turn. I decided to continue going that direction, and then turn right so that I was parallel
with him again, even if I was on the other side of the road with houses and there was a street in between us. For me there was a dead end at the end
of this block, though for him there was a gravel alley. Well, the alley was skeptical looking, so I went another block to turn left. This was better
because my line of vision was less obstructed than when I reached the dead end. Near the end of the street a truck was coming, and while I stopped, the

After about 30 min, I begin to warm up very slowly, my lower left side still stiff and sore. I massage my lower left leg to help ease the bone throb. I
feel the pain of the strain as if I will snap a muscle in my lower left back or left leg as I don socks and shoes.

My work shoes show the extra scuffs on top of the left toe box from the foot drag. I typically lead with my left leg and hold the cane in my right hand
to support my lame lower left side. Even with the heavy use of my cane I cannot avoid pain.
For example, I lean on my cane so hard that the premium medical rubber handle and many tips have worn out. I wear heavy duty palm padded
motorcycle gloves on my right hand to add power and overcome my lame lower left side. My whole right side has musculature compared to my lower
left side from compensating for my left side 's atrophy and weakness.
The pressure of walking, even cane –assisted, causes extreme tenderness from the onset. When I walk about 100 feet, the stabbing pain in my lower left
back and sometimes the shock in my left leg, debilitate me to the point where I must sit down, even though sitting violates workplace policy.
Sometimes when I walk, my left hip pains me as if the hip will slip out of joint. When this occurs, I will freeze in place to calm down the painful
movement and not incur more painful damage in my hip.
For example, my back, hip and leg pain cause me to have very prominent limp with an outward swing of my bad left leg.
When I stand still, I feel somewhat relieved from walking, but the nagging bone pain in my lower left back remains. But when I stand and sometimes
when I sit, I feel different pain, like there are no supports in my left lower

Media Bias And The Media
Media Bias In today's society, remaining connected and knowledgeable of current events and the newest trends is vital to staying ahead in business,
education, and social standing. This information is supplied to everyone through the internet, newspapers, television, and radio. One can tune into
stations such as CNN, NBC, Fox News, Al–Jazeera, and many others ("SQs of Media Outlets"). In order to meet the needs of viewers, readers, and
listeners, the ideal media system would contain accurate, quick information, with a purely impartial view on the facts as they are known. However,
this modern media system has not maintained an objective view, pushing opinionated and slanted reporting onto the population in order to create
profit and gain customers. The exploitation of information media for personal gain has created a toxic and inaccurate present, constant in today's
society. To understand what state the modern media system is in, one must firmly understand what bias is. Media bias is present "when a political
belief or commercial interest distorts the level of reporting" ("Media Bias" 1). If a political station provides positive or accurate information to only
one side, then the station can be considered biased. Another form of bias is known as sensationalism. Sensationalism is the creation of panic or fear by
over–reporting or over–inflating individual news stories, often blurring facts or reporting speculation as facts. A modern and familiar example of media

political manifesto in a paper known as the Port Huron Statement. Despite their differing political views, both political youth groups centered their
criticism on the same target: the American government. An analysis of both documents revealed that both believed that positive change could only

Both were formed by university students during a time of young political activism. There was also a generational understanding of 1960. This
recognition was clearly understood by the writers of the Port Huron Statement when they wrote, "Our work is guided by the sense that we might be the
last generation in the experiment with living. But we are minority." Hence for the SDS members, they not only felt they were the age group that knew
best the turbulent times, but they were also the only ones who fathomed the issues behind the chaos. Likewise, the writers behind the Sharon Statement
stated that "In this time of moral and political crisis, it is the responsibility of the youth of America to affirm certain eternal truths." It was up to the
young conservatives to point out the issues of contemporary America and call for a return to the universal principles that the country was supposedly
founded upon. Both manifestos recognized a crisis happening in the US and sought to rectify their truths politically, economically and socially.
Moreover, the YAF and SDS both argued from a similar point of view: that the government and its policies were the main instigators for the political,
social and economic issues during the early 1960s. The YAF saw the government as "acting beyond [their] rightful functions" and thus has reduced the
American concept of liberty and freedom. Yet the Sharon Statement associated these political intrusions to the government's role in the state economy.

To What Extent Did The Treaty Of Versailles Weaken Germany...

  • 1. To What Extent Did the Treaty of Versailles Weaken Germany... To what extent did the Treaty of Versailles weaken Germany Democratically, between 1919 to 1929? The signing of the Treaty of Versailles on the twenty second of June in 1919, would forever psychologically be associated with the long term bitterness and humiliation of the German public towards the German democracy. The civilian government who agreed to the terms of the treaty, which saw German suffer a deduction in their army, forced to pay high reparations, deduction of land and population were after known as the "November Criminals. However factors such as nationalism, the democratic Constitution, lack of democratic tradition within Germany society, pushes from the extreme left, the army and pushes from the extreme right saw the German ... It remained in Germany but Germany was forbidden to have any military forces in the Rhineland and Austria became a separate country and any future union with Austria was strictly forbidden. Germany was deemed by the Allied forces to be 'colonially unworthy' and lost all of her colonies, further angering and outraging German nationalists who had once hoped of Germany having its day in the sun. These terms saw nationalists outraged and constantly associating the government with the much–hated Treaty of Versailles, leading to revolts from the extreme right, which highlighted the government's weakness without these important and influential peoples support for the new Germany. Soon after the new German Democratic Party was sworn in, there was the immediate creation of a new constitution. The new constitution of 1919 guaranteed the basic rights of the German people but it also had weaknesses that undermined the functioning of the Democracy. The voting system of proportional representation was one such weakness. This system allowed small political parties to gain representation in the Reichstag. This resulted in political instability and the need for frequent elections. No party was ever able to have the majority of seats and every one of the 21 Weimar governments was a coalition government. With a coalition it was seen to be impossible to produce effective laws for the German people, as the majority of the coalition all had different views ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Political Moderates, By Morris P. Fiorina For many of us who would like the be called political moderates, these are troubling times. Despite the repeated calls for bipartisanship and civility, the reality is that the two parties in Congress are very far apart from each other. Not only is this the case, but it is even getting worse. Far to common are the party wars and voting along party lines even when it is their represented constituents who suffer. The days of bipartisan problem–solving seam to be nothing more than a campaign slogan tossed out by hopeful candidates and a phrase that has lost almost all meaning to a numb American public. Just how did things get to be this way? And what about the supposedly moderate public: how and why do they stand for this? To understand these questions, a good place to start is Disconnect: The Breakdown of Representation in American Politics, by Morris P. Fiorina, a professor ofPolitical Science at Stanford University. Disconnected is essentially a book in two parts. The first is an extensive compendium of data in support of the claim that there is indeed a widening disconnect between a largely moderate voting public and an ideological polarized political class. The second part is the story of how that disconnect came about. Fiorina argues in "Disconnect" that America's social evolution has increased the homogeneity within the parties and widened the differences between them, a dynamic that encourages politicians to "construct electoral coalitions out of group building blocks ... • 3. Essay On Latin America Turns To The Left Latin America Turns to The Left Within the last 20 years many Latin American nations have changed course from a neoliberal polity to one that is sided more to the left wing spectrum. "A significant part of Latin America is governed today by political movements and governments that call themselves 'leftist' or are classified as such by external observers." (Luna) Furthermore, the shift in direction politically has been classified by 3 factors; "1) opposing incumbents by mobilizing economic and political discontent; 2) being able to bring together a broad, socially heterogeneous electoral constituency in the context of fragmented societies; and 3) having a charismatic leader who was able to achieve 2 by pursuing 1." (Luna) These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This tension deeply erodes the regime's material foundations and leads citizens to look for better alternatives for reconciling the economy with politics." (Lynch) This idea of reconciling the economy and providing equality is the same rhetoric that all of the above mentioned leaders used while they were running for office. "Most observers agree that various left–wing parties, movements, and leaders in Latin America share a common commitment to egalitarianism; a willingness to use the state to balance market forces; and a belief in the importance of popular participation." (Cameron) When examining the relationship between a population and it's connection to the state, a clearer picture can be found that sheds light on how the shift to more left or left of center polities have begun to rise. "In Latin America, there are cases such as Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, and Mexico, in which the identification between nation and state is very strong. In other countries like Guatemala, Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru such identity is weak. The ethnic aspect lends to play a crucial role in the degree of identification between population and state.... This also means that those countries that are more advanced in terms of state formation, and that show a stronger identification between the state and its population, have better conditions for the establishment of democratic left–wing governments." (Lynch) Ultimately, these dramatic shifts ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Freedom Of Speech : The Importance Of Free Speech Zones In the historical year of 1787, the United States Constitution was signed. The very first amendment giving United States citizens freedom of speech. The founding fathers understood that free speech was the most important aspect of the country. They believed every citizen should be able to express his or her beliefs without fear of prosecution or punishment. Two hundred and thirty years later, in 2017, the most important constitutional right is being challenged by the so–called "College Left." The challengers are Free Speech Zones. According to the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), Free Speech Zones force anyone with an opinion to fill out a form ten days in advance, wait for his or her opinion to be approved, then speak only in the Free Speech Zone. If a student dares say his or her opinion outside of the zone, if the college deems it "hateful," he or she could be expelled. Free Speech Zones have done nothing to help the nation and have only hurt its people, causing political splits, brainwashing, and created even more tensions in the country; therefore, all of the Free Speech Zones that remain on campuses today must be removed. While college professors in favor of Free Speech Zones (FSZs) claim to help protect the safety of students by stopping hateful and destructive protests, the primary purpose of FSZs is to silence the opinion of anyone who dares disagree with the Ivory Tower of politically correct culture. For example, countless times, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Struggle Of Family And War Struggle of Family and War Our family life was pretty good. My husband Anthony would go to work and the kids played. But that didn't last for long. I had to pay taxes for things like sugar and documents and if that didn't put me into debt then there was the tea act and that angered us all because we already paid tax and now tea! Even though it is way less of tax I could be a trick. We don 't even get Representation so why are we paying these taxes! Thankfully we have the Sons of Liberty to show Britain to back off and we formed a unity with the colonies called the "Committees of Correspondence". But even that did not last. Shortly after, Britain banned the Committees of Correspondence and what affected me most was that they forced us to buy the tea and if we didn't they would close the Boston harbor. My husband says, "we don't need to pay for the tea we can wait for others to pay for the tea and then get the thing we want." But that is not what I do first of all I need my tea, and second I feel like I should help the other people to pay for the tea. You thought this was it? Well it's not, there was then the Townshend act which let british soldiers live in out house and take all of our things. This just got my family into debt, deep debt. Today my family still is in debt and I still can't pay it off and now when my two little girls want something I have to say no, but they don 't cry or throw a fit they just frown and look outside. They 're smart little kids and I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Stranger The Stranger I stood before my house in horror. Cars flashed by on a nearby street as red and blue lights flashed onto the walls of the building. It all began on a Saturday morning. My parents were sitting at the table with full pancakes on their plates, while I had a half of one on mine, and the other half being smashed with my teeth. Suddenly, a doorbell rang. I got up from my seat, still chewing on half of my pancake, and walked to the door. Each step I took on the tile floor was cold and slippery because I had mopped them ten minutes ago. As I approached the front door, I began to hear what appeared to be screaming. It seemed that the sound would get louder the closer I stepped. While I was walking toward the door, I began to think. "What is that noise? Is somebody hurt? I'd better hurry and find out," I began to walk quickly, then more quickly, until I was running. I reached the door and threw it open. Immediately, I saw a man. His back was facing me. "Are you okay?" I asked loudly, so that he could hear me over his screams. I suddenly had a terrible feeling. It was the kind of feeling that makes a person feel suddenly cold. The man stopped crying. His head turned very slowly towards me. "Hello, little kid," he said with a smile. His teeth were yellow and his eyes looked like he hadn't slept in years. "Hi. Are you hurt?" I asked. The man just stood there, smiling and staring at me. After what felt like forever, he said, "Thank you for asking. I'm perfectly fine," he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Party For Freedom And The Socialist Party By definition, Nationalism is an ideology in which a group's recognition and espouse of their identity, as a nation, is expressed based on a common origin, in addition to the desire to spread their global influence. Through analysis of the Netherlands Party for Freedom (PVV) and the Netherlands' Socialist Party (Socialistische Partij) alongside the World Values Survey, I will assess the values of each party and compare their supporters through various variables in order to further examine Nationalism. In comparison of the Party for Freedom and the Socialist Party, I will focus on the country's answer toward the question: "Which party would you vote for if there were a national election tomorrow," as well as analyze the various demographics involved. The Netherlands is run based upon a parliamentary representative democracy with both parties analyzed containing the same number of seats within the parliament. Thus, both parties, despite having different worldviews, carry similarities throughout the nationalistic views of the Dutch people. In order to inaugurate the analysis, we must begin by determining the nationalistic views within the Netherlands and understand the basis behind each party. The Party for freedom is a right–wing nationalist party, while the Socialist Party is a left–wing social democratic party. Within the current politics of the Netherlands, both parties control an equal number of seats with 15 being in the House of Representatives and 9 being within the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. What Does Europe Want? Late in his life, Freud asked the famous question "Was will das Weib?", "What does a woman want?", admitting his perplexity when faced with the enigma of the feminine sexuality. A similar perplexity arouses today, apropos the Brexit referendum: what does Europe want? The true stakes of this referendum become clear if we locate it into its larger historical context. In Western and Eastern Europe, there are signs of a long–term re–arrangement of the political space. Till recently, the political space was dominated by two main parties which addressed the entire electoral body, a Right–of–centre party (Christian–Democrat, liberal–conservative, people's...) and a Left–of–centre party (socialist, social–democratic...), with smaller parties ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... So what does Europe want? Basically, Europe is caught into a vicious cycle, oscillating between the Bruxelles technocracy unable to drag it out of inertia, and the popular rage against this inertia, a rage appropriated by new more radical Leftist movements but primarily by Rightist populism. The Brexit referendum moved along the lines of this new opposition, which is why there was something terribly wrong with it. To see this, one should only look at the strange bedfellows that found themselves together in the Brexit camp: right–wing "patriots," populist nationalists fuelled by the fear of immigrants, mixed with desperate working class rage... is such a mixture of patriotic racism with the rage of "ordinary people" not the ideal ground for a new form of Fascism? The intensity of the emotional investment into the referendum should not deceive us, the choice offered obfuscated the true questions: how to fight "agreements" like TTIP which present a real threat to popular sovereignty, how to confront ecological catastrophes and economic imbalances which breed new poverty and migrations, etc. The choice of Brexit means a serious setback for these true struggles – suffice it to bear in mind what an important argument for Brexit was the "refugee threat." The Brexit referendum is the ultimate proof that ideology (in the good ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Why Is 1968 A Turning Point In 1968 The year 1968 was a significant moment in the postwar period as it witnessed the greatest social and political upheaval throughout the world. It is understood as a metaphor for the larger mobilization cycle that took place in the long Sixties and in the Seventies. The events of that year marked a turning point in the emergence of a cohort of young people comprising students and workers who had come confronting the established authority and social conventions. Embedded in anti–authoritarian and individualistic, libertarian and socialistic as well as democratic, anti–institutional, and anti–bureaucratic values, student groups and worker unions across organized protests and demonstrations against the established institutions of Western democracy,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sentiment was intensified with the growing opposition to the Vietnam War. Fascism was still an open chapter for many young German students. They were upset on the reluctance of the older generations in incorporating anti–Fascist ideas to the country's constitution. The Bonn Republic's support for the U.S. in Vietnam did not bode well with the student. The U.S. was perceived as equally immoral as the Hitler regime. In brief, West German radical Leftist criticised the Bonn Republic for its present imperialist–capitalist associations and for its past fascist ones and viewed themselves as the true victims of the far–right dominance. The German radical Left eventually distanced themselves from Willy Brandt's Social Democratic Party and adopted Third World's Marxists–Leninist' variation, Maoism, exemplified with strong anti–Western emphasis. The situation reached its peak in 1968 when the student movement failed to stop the Bundestag from legalising Emergency Law which were due to be passed, would allow the government to limit civil rights in the case of an emergency. This marked the decline of the student movement culminated in the disbandment of Sozialistische Deutsche Studentenbund, the biggest student union in West Germany and its resurrection in later years proved of no ... • 11. Political Parties Are Essential For The Success And... Political parties are fundamental to building democracy. These parties are organized by people with a wide range of policy preferences, who then recruit, and run slates of candidates for office. Political parties do this in an attempt to capture control of the National and State government(s). When a political party controls the government, they are then capable of legislating public, and foreign policy aligned with their party's ideology and preferences. An important way to look at the importance of political parties is to consider all the things they do. Countless decisions are made by political parties every day. Although they make poor decisions and choices sometimes, many issues are quite complex and lack clear answers. Indeed, there are still a myriad of benefits to having political parties in American government. Whether it's simplifying voting, or promoting compromise and deliberation, political parties are instrumental to the success and longevity of the United States. A noticeable advantage of having political parties in America is that they simplify voting. Voting isn't always easy to do in the first place. A myriad of reasons explain why people don't vote. Whether it's a lack of time to vote, the distant location of where one has to vote, the early date people need to register to vote in some states, or just a lack of interest in politics, countless people do not end up making it to the polls to vote on Election days. • 12. Definition And Characteristics Of Collective Identity In... Collective Identity Definition: Characteristics of a large group that many individuals share. A collective identity can be attributed to nationality, ethnicity, age, gender, geographical region, culture, religion, etc. Example: French Canadians all share a common language, heritage, and culture. They can trace their ancestries back to the French colonists who settled on Canadian soil. Most of Canada's French Canadian population are now residing in the Province of Quebec. Identifying as French Canadian is the collective identity that all these people share. Graphic image and explanation: The above is a globe of flags that each represent a different country. Living, being born in, or tracing heritage back to a particular country can often influence collective identities for many people. Collectivism/Common Good Definition: The notion that a group should focus on what would benefit everyone, rather than individual desires. Example: Following the inauguration of the United States' President Donald Trump, people all over the world participated in the 2017 Women's march. During his campaign, Donald Trump had said controversial comments that many viewed as "anti–women". People put aside their differences and protested human rights together as a way to make their voices heard. Marching together would be in the best interests of everyone in the United States and their uncertain future. • 13. The Failure of the Progressive Movement Although the Progressive Era managed to solve much of the backwater left over from Industrialization, it failed in regards to discrimination. America would have to wait decades later for the issue of civil equality to truly be addressed. Due to the apathy of the politicians during that time, the desperate need for a scapegoat, and the hypocrisy people displayed when confronted with the topic, the movement that was intended to achieve "progress" in society completely forgot about equality. Possibly a result of the lingering sentiments of racism from the time of slavery, politicians remained unwilling to confront the idea of discrimination. Hopeful candidates running for any public office had to appease as many voters as possible, and this often meant not angering those who still held onto racist ideologies. One can clearly see Taft attempting to skirt the issue of discrimination in his inaugural address in 1909. Here the president states that racial inequality in the South was a non issue and should be allowed to fix itself. One year later in 1910, Roosevelt gave his "New Nationalism" speech to the people of Osawatomie, Kansas. He makes the declaration that the government should not be influenced by special interest groups, which is essentially a nice way of saying that he will do nothing about discrimination. Both presidents, who were considered by many to be progressive approached inequality with a lazy, slothful demeanor, so it is hardly surprising that the issue was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Society for Effecting the Abolition of the Slave Trade was led by William Wilberforce and Thomas Clarkson and successfully campaigned for the abolition of the slave trade. (Jones, 2004, p233) Pressure groups are formed by a group of people who share a common interest or goal. The intention of the group is to raise the profile or the cause and/or advance it. Information – the group has expertise and information on a specific subject. Compatibility – of the objectives with that of the government. Compatibility – of the groups objectives with public sympathies. Track record – of giving good advice. Possession of powerful sanctions – if a group has the ability to seriously affect society through withdrawal of their services their interests may be viewed more sympathetically. (Jones, 2004, p239) Governments recognise the usefulness of pressure groups as a valuable source of information and expertise in helping them formulate policies. Governments will often consult with insider groups to find out about problems with their current policies along with suggestions for how this could be improved or to gauge negative feedback to new policies. By consulting the insider groups, government can also lend legitimacy to the policy. This is referred to as policy networking. (Jones, 2004 p237) In complete contrast to insiders groups, outsider groups have no direct access to the decision makers, as they do not fulfil the criteria laid down previously. The Importance Of Artifice In Society Although many people may like to think of America as a honest and moral nation, it is no secret that artifice has cemented itself as an indispensable skill, exploited by many to achieve their own ambitions. Artifice, characterized through the usage of cunning devices or expedients to deceive others, is often utilized by politicians and organizations to help push their own agendas. As illustrated by Chris Hedges in his social commentary, Empire of Illusion, "artifice" has emerged to become so ubiquitous and essential throughout American society, whether in business or the entertainment industry. Essential, in the essence that without it, people in any industry are more likely to be disadvantaged in achieving their personal goals. In today's modern world, no area has seen more abuse of artifice than in the field of media and politics. Its common knowledge that newspapers skew reports to their own biases and politicians often tell half–truths to cover–up ulterior motives. Unfortunately, these politicians and media giants hold extremely influential positions in society, and their usage of artifice is extremely damaging to the integrity and accountability within the United States. As a result, the press as well as the general populace must utilize free speech to expose this behavior. Despite the complete immorality of the usage of artifice, such chicanery remains essential for success in media and politics. It can be used for good such as the British During WW2 to keep the spirit of the British people in the war and it can be used for evil such as Nazi propaganda that dehumanized the Jewish people. While propaganda is good at influencing people, it fails at spreading the truth of matters. Often propaganda relies on an enemy to dehumanize, to do this propagandist often lie or stretch the truth to convert people to their cause. There are many factors that influenced and that caused the Spanish Civil War breakout, however this essay is focusing in 4 long run causes, more specifically: the role of the Spanish Army, the role of the Church, the nature of the economy and the new left wing ideologies. The Spanish army had a very powerful influence in politics, due to its role in Spain's imperial past. It was likely to be compared as the protector of the nation. The Spanish army had already intervened before in politics several times, the last one in 1936, breaking out the war. It did not have an appeal on the working class, since they were very brutal, and more important, very expensive to maintain with very high taxes. They were more likely to be related to the middle–high class, and therefore even more unlikely to cause an appeal on the Spanish labour force. For this labour force the Spanish Army was just a symbol of fascist authority. After the progressive Popular Front was selected, the middle–high class already planned a military offensive against the leftists' ideologies.

An agreement was reached, stating that mandatory quotas would only be introduced if the initial targets – 30 percent by 1992, 40 percent by 1995, and 50 percent by 1998 – were not reached (Sainsbury, 2004). Inferring from the term itself, one could say that polarization in American politics refers to a widening of the gap between what could be called the average left–wing and right–wing politician, voter, or ideology on a standard political spectrum. Another examination of the term could result in a definition regarding the lack of cooperation between the two major American political parties. Although, it would be more accurate to say that both examinations of the term are correct – and that polarization can create an environment in which the two main modes of thinking are largely incompatible. Proceeding from a definition, one might speculate how polarization ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Understanding polarization is important because it has often been acknowledged as one of the most problematic process currently undergoing American political institutions. Several scholars, regardless of their school of thought, have described it as having the potential to cause a self–destruction of Congress (Farina 1690–691). There are several consequences that are currently apparent in today's political landscape, including "institutional stalemate and associated political misbehavior (Farina 1691)." It is important to note that there is empirical evidence that "congressional polarization has been steadily and consistently increasing since the 1980s (Farina 1701)." In this event, it is understandable why political scholars are so entrenched in discovering the sources of polarization. There are several theories that attempt to accurately calculate the causes of polarization, but most of these theories only find moderate culprits – few of these theories and studies find a catch–all cause of polarizaton. One study, completed by Jesse Sussell and James A. Thomson, points to population clustering as a factor in polarization. Body language can be used in place of words or it can be accompanied by spoken language. This form of language allows those involved in a conversation to understand communication with others more easily and effectively. The way a person stands, moves and focuses their attention allows others to notice and understand how the person feels in a situation. If someone is not comfortable in a situation, they may say they are comfortable, but could look down, keep their feet together or crossed, and they may hold their arms close to their body. This signals to the others that this person is not comfortable. Employee interactions with customers and other employees is unique in that their interactions with customers are very different from their interactions with each other. While conducting research on employee interactions at an apple orchard in central Maine on a Saturday and Sunday morning, I asked myself the following questions: What type of body language was used while communicating with the customer? What gestures did the employee and the customer make? How was this different from the body language and gestures made between co–workers? The social benefits turned out to be crucially important to voters and even the neoliberal government did not dare to cut off the benefits in order to be able to gain votes. Most analyses have showed that the welfare states were stable and resistant to most attempts of retrenchments introduced by governments and even though if some cut offs passed, the nature of welfares state has not changed. The resistance of welfare state's institutions is extraordinary, no government would dare to significantly change or cancel the core social expenditures (eg. pensions). The leader will tell the follower what to do, how to do it, where to do it, and when to do it. Close supervision is also involved at this point. The X–axis beginning point is to the extreme right (high directive) indicating that leader will be providing directions. The rectangular object showing development levels is also to the extreme right but here it signifies that the amount of learned knowledge (amount of development to perform task) is low. The beginner may become enthusiastic about wanting to learn. They will probably be highly committed but competence will be low. The Y–axis is on the bottom end showing us that supportive behavior is at a low point. The second quadrant is located in the upper right, S2 coaching leadership style. This phase is where the leader listens to the follower, provides support and encourages the follower's efforts, and facilitates involvement with problem solving and decision–making. Communication flows between leader and follower. The X–axis beginning point is to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Why I Am A Doctor It makes sense that if you see something that threatens you or anybody else, you would want to intervene somehow. One day, I was doing exactly that, yet my imagination got the better of me, because of how doubtful I was of the person's intentions. First of all, I was at the supermarket buying some groceries in the afternoon on a sunny summer day. As I walked to my car outside, I saw somebody dressed in dark jeans, a black hoodie, and very used looking tennis shoes. I have always been interested in mysteries, even though I'd just gotten a degree to be a doctor a few months ago. I passed this person on the way to my car I saw the elements in his bag; it was a few long ropes and a roll of duct tape. Well, that really made this guy look... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After he got to the other side of the road, he noticed a poster on the back side of the building. He took the poster off and just stared at it. It looked like there was a crime scene on it. What could it be, I thought? He crumpled it up and put it in his jean pocket, then he kept going to wherever his destination was. I used the same approach the next block, but this time the individual turned right, walked across the other side of the block, and crossed the street right in front of me. The man glanced at me contingently, probably because I was eyeballing him to see what he would do next. My way of following him was abolished because of his turn. I decided to continue going that direction, and then turn right so that I was parallel with him again, even if I was on the other side of the road with houses and there was a street in between us. For me there was a dead end at the end of this block, though for him there was a gravel alley. Well, the alley was skeptical looking, so I went another block to turn left. This was better because my line of vision was less obstructed than when I reached the dead end. Near the end of the street a truck was coming, and while I stopped, the stranger almost didn't see it in time. Luckily, the truck stopped before just before anything could happen. It seemed he was a little preoccupied. After he continued on like nothing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. My Sleep Disturbed By The Deep Bone Frequently, I awake very stiff and have aches in my lower left body. Most nights, especially those after a workday, I spend the night in and out of sleep. My sleep disturbed by the deep bone throb in my lower left leg as well as spasms in my left hamstring. After about 30 min, I begin to warm up very slowly, my lower left side still stiff and sore. I massage my lower left leg to help ease the bone throb. I feel the pain of the strain as if I will snap a muscle in my lower left back or left leg as I don socks and shoes. I always rely on a cane to walk, except when I lean way forward and wall/furniture surf to the bathroom about once a night. The more I walk, the more intense I feel the deep bone ache in my lower left back and my left ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... My work shoes show the extra scuffs on top of the left toe box from the foot drag. I typically lead with my left leg and hold the cane in my right hand to support my lame lower left side. Even with the heavy use of my cane I cannot avoid pain. For example, I lean on my cane so hard that the premium medical rubber handle and many tips have worn out. I wear heavy duty palm padded motorcycle gloves on my right hand to add power and overcome my lame lower left side. My whole right side has musculature compared to my lower left side from compensating for my left side 's atrophy and weakness. The pressure of walking, even cane –assisted, causes extreme tenderness from the onset. When I walk about 100 feet, the stabbing pain in my lower left back and sometimes the shock in my left leg, debilitate me to the point where I must sit down, even though sitting violates workplace policy. Sometimes when I walk, my left hip pains me as if the hip will slip out of joint. When this occurs, I will freeze in place to calm down the painful movement and not incur more painful damage in my hip. For example, my back, hip and leg pain cause me to have very prominent limp with an outward swing of my bad left leg. When I stand still, I feel somewhat relieved from walking, but the nagging bone pain in my lower left back remains. But when I stand and sometimes when I sit, I feel different pain, like there are no supports in my left lower

  • 40. Media Bias And The Media Media Bias In today's society, remaining connected and knowledgeable of current events and the newest trends is vital to staying ahead in business, education, and social standing. This information is supplied to everyone through the internet, newspapers, television, and radio. One can tune into stations such as CNN, NBC, Fox News, Al–Jazeera, and many others ("SQs of Media Outlets"). In order to meet the needs of viewers, readers, and listeners, the ideal media system would contain accurate, quick information, with a purely impartial view on the facts as they are known. However, this modern media system has not maintained an objective view, pushing opinionated and slanted reporting onto the population in order to create profit and gain customers. The exploitation of information media for personal gain has created a toxic and inaccurate present, constant in today's society. To understand what state the modern media system is in, one must firmly understand what bias is. Media bias is present "when a political belief or commercial interest distorts the level of reporting" ("Media Bias" 1). If a political station provides positive or accurate information to only one side, then the station can be considered biased. Another form of bias is known as sensationalism. Sensationalism is the creation of panic or fear by over–reporting or over–inflating individual news stories, often blurring facts or reporting speculation as facts. On September 11Th, 1960, The Founding Right Makes Left On September 11th, 1960, the founding members of the Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) published their basic ideologies of in their "Sharon Statement." Two years later on the June of 1962, members of the Students for a Democratic Society at their retreat published their political manifesto in a paper known as the Port Huron Statement. Despite their differing political views, both political youth groups centered their criticism on the same target: the American government. An analysis of both documents revealed that both believed that positive change could only come by the youth, because only they saw the real flaws of the current system and have the ability to make a difference. A brief background of both the YAF and the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both were formed by university students during a time of young political activism. There was also a generational understanding of 1960. This recognition was clearly understood by the writers of the Port Huron Statement when they wrote, "Our work is guided by the sense that we might be the last generation in the experiment with living. But we are minority." Hence for the SDS members, they not only felt they were the age group that knew best the turbulent times, but they were also the only ones who fathomed the issues behind the chaos. Likewise, the writers behind the Sharon Statement stated that "In this time of moral and political crisis, it is the responsibility of the youth of America to affirm certain eternal truths." It was up to the young conservatives to point out the issues of contemporary America and call for a return to the universal principles that the country was supposedly founded upon. Both manifestos recognized a crisis happening in the US and sought to rectify their truths politically, economically and socially. Moreover, the YAF and SDS both argued from a similar point of view: that the government and its policies were the main instigators for the political, social and economic issues during the early 1960s. The YAF saw the government as "acting beyond [their] rightful functions" and thus has reduced the American concept of liberty and freedom. Yet the Sharon Statement associated these political intrusions to the government's role in the state economy. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
