Arthropods are the most diverse group of animals, with over 1 million known species. They have bilateral symmetry, an exoskeleton made of chitin, jointed appendages, and segmented bodies. Arthropods are classified into five main groups - trilobites, myriapods, chelicerates, crustaceans, and insects - based on body segments, number of legs, and other features. Myriapods have many leg pairs, chelicerates have specialized mouthparts, crustaceans live in water and land and have five leg pairs, and insects are the largest group and mostly live on land with three leg pairs.
