To review media technology
 How did you get on with your blog?
 Do we all have a blog?
To review media technology
 Logging on
 Vale user and password or
DNTVA-TempStudent and Password67
 Username: DNTVA-6thform
 Password: Password1
To become familiar with
technology- did you come to the
induction day?
 Go online and create Gmail account if you
don’t already have one. Write down your user
name and password.
 Create a blog – give it a good academic
name/ title eg Joe Bloggs A Level Media
Studies
 Choose the ‘simple’ design. It’s easier to
navigate when you start.
To review media technology
To review media technology
 All of your work will go on this blog so give it a
sensible name and a clean professional
design.
 This blog address will go to OCR!
 Record your user name and password and
your blog web address and your blog title/
name. Give this to Mrs B or Miss King.
 If you might forget your gmail info then note
this down as well.
To become familiar with technology
 Choose the background and learn about
settings.
 Black font on a pale background is preferred
by OCR.
 Wide margins
 Easy to read fonts eg ariel, Calibri, tahoma,
times new roman
 View blog – what does it look like? Click the
little icon top left to return to your dashboard
To add a post
 Write your post title eg Research Media Forms
 Respond to the task set in the main text area/
space. Adding hyperlinks, video or images must
be done using the icon- if you drag them in they
won’t always show/ work. You have to import
them.
 Check your spelling and grammar! Check it’s well
presented.
 Post it! If you don’t click post/ publish – you will
lose all your work. Don’t worry you can soon go
back into it and edit it.
To review media technology
To become familiar with
technology
 When researching; avoid copy and paste – you
need to put things in your own words and support
your explanations and findings with screen
captures.
 On a PC this is the snipping tool.
To become familiar with technology
 Next- set up an account with
slideshare – write down the details.
You will need this to upload a ppt to
embed on your blog.
 Note on a post page there are two
settings-
 To write text and add images use
compose BUT
To add an embed code for uploading
a ppt from slideshare you have to
click HTML and paste it in – then click
update.
To become familiar with technology: Summer tasks:
Researching Magazine industries.
 Media institution [ do you know
what an institution is?] Institutions
are big companies that work in the
same industry – in this case they
produce or distribute magazines.
 Look a the history of the company
– when did they start? How? Who
owns the company? What were
their first products? Add screen
captures. How have they grown
over the years?
To become familiar with
technology
 Also register with
1. Prezi
2. Slideshare
3. Emaze
4. Powtoon
5. Canva
6. Flickr – then ask to join the ValeMedia group
Always record your user names and passwords. At the end you will give
these to Mrs Beasley who will also keep them privately locked away for
you.

http://valeacademyalevelmediastudies.blogspot.co.uk
Any problems with uploading? Embedding? Go online and find out
how to do this!
Vale Media Blog
 https://valeacademyalevelmediastudies.blogs
pot.co.uk/
 This is YOUR home hub! It will [eventually]
have links to all units and your hwk on it.
 Go on it now. If you click the page links at the
top, it will take you to support and resources
for that unit of the course.
USB- memory stick
 Have a USB just for Media. You cannot use it on a PC
downstairs or in any other department. We do have them in
Media so don’t worry about this – just remember not to use a
usb in Media that you have ever used anywhere else outside
of this room.
 You cannot use an encrypted USB on a mac.
In summer, if you see great magazine covers, or an awesome
advert or a superb headline. Take a photo of it, upload it to your
blog and explain why you think it is effective. The tasks on the
