The Varying Representations of Jesus in the Bible and the...
An prophetic figure common to both the Bible and the Qur'an is Jesus, however, Jesus is presented
in a different ways in both texts. Sometimes the differences are subtle and sometimes more radical.
The New Testament stories about Jesus from primary sources, such as his disciples. The Qur'an was
written much later in the time of Mohammad in approximately 650 AD and Jesus' life, and its
power, comes from received wisdom diluted by generations of people.
The main difference between the two depictions of Jesus is the portrayal of his divinity. In the Bible,
Jesus Christ is seen as the Son of God, the Messiah, who was sent to the earth to spread the 'Good
News' and who was ultimately sacrificed himself to purge the sin of humanity. The Qur'an and Bible
suggest that Jesus was born divinely, however Christianity also suggests that Jesus is a holy being
who was sent to guide humanity. In the Bible Jesus is part of the Holy Trinity and was conceived
through the Holy Spirit. This is shown in the bible passage, which reads:
"The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come down to you, and God's power will come over
you. So your child will be called the holy son of God" (Luke 1:35) (International Bible Society,
1984)
And also in the passage
"No one has ever seen God. The only son, who is truly God and is closest to the Father, has shown
us what God is like" (John 1:18) (International Bible Society, 1984).
The Qur'an it is said that Jesus was born to Mary miraculously which occurred by

Similarities Between Christianity And Islam
Christianity and Islam share much common ground. They trace their origins to Abraham; believe in
prophecy, apostles, revelation, scripture, resurrection, and life after death. Christianity and Islam
have related theological traditions; believe in one omnipotent God who is concerned with human
salvation. Both religions are somewhat similar in how they embrace their beliefs; what the church is
to Christianity, the umma is to Islam. Notwithstanding these important similarities, however, these
two worldviews have a number of significant differences as well. This paper will explore, compare
and contrast some of the similarities and the difference of both religions.

Muslims do not support the theory that human beings advanced from apes, but that that the life of
human beings began with the creation of Adam and Hawwa (Eve) and that God did not create them
from dust and breathe life into Adam to become the first man but that he reached where he is now
after transitioning through many stages.
The Qur'an revealed that man's first stage was a condition of non–existence. Prior to the creation of
the universe, there was a stage period when nothing existed. (Qur'an, Surah19)
Another stage in the creation process was a state of existence when the human body was created but
the brain or its active abilities were not yet developed. Man was a human body, which was not yet a
human being. There was the physical human body minus the evolved and perfected human brain or
mind. He was in the form of a being without consciousness and intelligence, not aware of himself or
of other things (Qur'an Surah 19).
The third stage in the evolution of man was reached when he entered a state of being and began to
form through the seed of the male, planted in the body of the female through sexual intercourse. The
fourth stage developed the human brain to perfection and presented a highly developed form of
awareness and intelligence. After completing the creation, the Qur'an states that Allah "settled
Himself upon the Throne" to oversee His work (Quran, Surah 50:38).

The Noble Qur'an
The Qur'an, also known as Kitah Allah (the book of God) is the religious text of Muslim Scripture.
It is the revelation of God that the Prophet Muhammad received by the archangel Gabriel and
written in Arabic language. It provides Muslims with guidelines and detailed teachings for a just
society, proper human behaviors, and an egalitarian economic system. One can only truly
understand the teachings of the Qur'an by exploring the life of the prophet Muhammad and grasping
the important message and tone that is held within the book.
Muhammad Abdullah, was the founder of the religion of Islam, and is considered by Muslims to be
the last Islamic prophet of God. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His dedication to spread the message of God was phenomenal and he did not give up despite his
harsh treatment. Muhammad received some good news from the city of Yathrib. The city was in
need of a leader and pledged to obey and worship Allah alone and defend him to the death.
Muhammad and his loyal followers fled to Yathrib and left the city of Mecca. Yathrib was later
renamed Medinat al–Nabi, "the City of the Prophet," and is now known as Medina, "the City."
Muhammad died in 632, having conquered all of Arabia for Islam.
He was loved and highly respected by man Muslims. His battle for peace never ended and his
message from God continues to spread present day.
The Qur'an was written over a period of twenty–three years beginning on December 22 609 CE, and
concluding in 632. Muslims claim that Muhammad spoke the whole Quran to his followers and
many of them memorized the verses word by word and later wrote it down. The Qur'an was divided
into 114 chapters, called surah(s). These chapters are arranged according to length, which vary from
3 to 286 verses. The chapters of the Qur'an also have a title that comes from a word that is written
within the text. However, some titles are not linked to the subject matter in each surah. The titles
have names such as "The Cow" (Surah 2), "Noah" (Surah 71), and "The Most High" (Surah 87).
Each Sura contains an important message for the people of Islam. Most Muslims claims

Compare And Contrast Islam And Christianity
Islam
Islam is a religion that believes in one god called Allah. All of the teachings and beliefs of the
Islamic religion are written out in the Qur'an also known as the Quran or Koran. The followers of
this religion are known as Muslims. Most religions are quite similar having one person as a leader
figure with many followers using readings from a book to do what is write and live their life.
Although there are many extreme differences between religions especially looking at Islam and
Christianity by beliefs, the way they live and rules they follow. Some differences that I will be
focusing on during this essay include beliefs and experiences, rituals, sacred texts, religious ethics,
history and also culture.
Beliefs and Religious experience
There are many different beliefs and religious experiences between Christianity and Islam, as well
as having many similarities. Some similarities include that both follow a god where Christians
follow God and Islam's follow Allah. Muslims believe that males can marry a Christian or Jew but
not a polytheist whereas Muslim woman may not marry non–Muslim men. Whereas Christians are
happily allowed to marry and person of the opposite gender from any religion. Both followers of
Islam and Christianity believe there is only one God, they both believe in angels and prophets and
both follow holy books. Muslims do not believe that Jesus was the son of God although they do
believe he was a prophet and like all other prophets brought people of

Separate Muslims from State Outline
Throughout the depths of recorded history Muslims have constantly committed mass murders upon
innocent people in the name of Islam. According to long established conventional Islamic views,
Muhammad's revelations start the Qur'an off in 610. Dating back to as early as 627, the Prophet
Muhammad's followers have been recorded of murdering large numbers of "non–believers" and
even believers for that matter (Ye 'or, 1985). While researching wars declared in the name of Islam,
the words "convert" or "die" (more often than not they surfaced together making the claim "convert
or die") surfaced exceedingly often. Despite the common belief imprinted into the minds of nearly
every United States citizen/civilian whom attended or is attending public school with the U.S.,
oppressing a people based off of their religious beliefs has the ability to be beneficial to the world on
a global scale. Muslims should not be allowed to act as political advocates considering Islam gives
approval of segregation, provides obligations of the religions followers to commit senseless acts of
violence, and because of the fact that Islam allows systematic lying as a religious policy. Throughout
this research essay we will discuss facts in regards to traditional and modern Islamic ideology while
deciding whether someone of such beliefs has a place in a position

The Birth of Muhammad and Islam
The Islamic religion is not only a religion, but a complex lifestyle full of dynamic truth which has a
past that spans over fourteen centuries. It's history encompasses the ancient spirits of people from
North Africa as far as Malaysia. Islam is also one of the youngest major religions as the "Qur'an
"came down" to Muhammad six centuries after Jesus, so that a large portion of the developed world
which it soon overran had been evangelized for centuries" (Burrell 1). Although Islam was budding,
it has grown into one of the world's largest religions having a following of over one billion. Islam is
known to be the fastest growing faith worldwide, and in recent years has made striking advances in
North America (3). "The rapid expansion of the community of Believers after Muhammad's death
has its roots in the events of the last years of his life" ( Donner 92). Islam can be abridged into three
timeframes that are as follows; The Time of Ingratitude, Muhammad 's life and story, and the
organizations and laws that were created after the demise of the prophet.
The holiest declaration or "Shahada" in Islam is "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his
messenger" (Fieser 373). Islam found its origins in Arabia and it takes after every one of the
standards given by God which were translated through Muhammad. Muslims on the other hand, are
the individuals who hone this religion as

The Religious Text Of The Qur ' An
Many people Muslims as well as non–Muslims have written much about The Holy Qur'an. Their
topics vary and opinions differ depending on the ideas on stage. Fazlur Rahman 's ideas on the major
themes of the Qur'an are a reflective writing of God's revelation and intention of human as in the
religious text of the Qur'an. The chapters emphasize more on the conduct of man (in this case human
being); social and moral. It is a descriptive discussion of the world, and how things have been
schemed systematically. Rahman 's book is one of the major writings of Islamic faith, which
promotes the beauty of the ideas in the Qur'an as the main constitution of the religion.

Everything in the universe is dependent on God and no being live or not can do without Him. God
sustains everything in the universe (1) and man is expected to wholly depend on Him and be aware
of this unseen being. The Qur'an teaches it is rational and reasonable to have faith in the omnipotent
and merciful God, as He is central to human existence. He is part of creation and not detached in
any way to it and man's main purpose is to serve him diligently. It comes as a God's command that
every being must adhere to the teachings of the Qur'an as they carry the intent and the expectations
of God to man.
In His ways of helping man, God shows mercy by sending him messengers and through revelations
(9). Through this man is expected to understand and be aware of God's existence and conduct
himself as deserved. In this way, man is guided and judged on the correct way to keep close and the
laws of nature expresses what God commands him to do. In Chapter four of the book, man has been
given a free choice and a unique responsibility, which can only be achieved through sole
dependence on God (68–69). The free choice is the only difference between Him and the rest of the
nature. The monotheist relationship has specified the way to maintain that close relationship as only
one; to depend on Him and through obeying Him.
In the second chapter of the book, another major aspect of the relationship has been revealed. The
relationship is tied along a creed in that human actions define

Islam it can be punished by death. Both religion have an afterlife. The path to salvation for
Christianity is to confess your sins to God, maintain a person relationship with God and accept that

pleasing him. Forgiveness is majority of the Holy Bible and there are more than 50 verses about it.
In the Qur'an, Allah does not forgive except infrequently on an arbitrary act, which means he
forgives on bases of random choice, rather than for any reason or system. The view of Islamic
religion is respected as another fellow monotheistic religion, but have differences between the

The Qur'an is believe to the ultimate source of God by many Muslim believers. It contains 114 suras
for the believers as the core practices of the Islamic religion and Muslims throughout the world
recites its verses (Chang, Lecture. 1/21/14). They believed the prophet of Allah was Muhammad,
who received the words of Allah through Angel Gabriel, and was passed on with the Qur'an during
Ramadan. Angel Gabriel one night came to Muhammad "in clear human form" ("Scripture and
Tradition in Islam– The Qur'an and Hadith" 104), and gave the messages from Allah to him. From
the establishment of the Qur'an, Muslims have viewed the book as the last revelation of their god

"Surely God is my Lord and your Lord; so serve him. This is a straight path" (Sura 3:38–64, pg.107,
Reader), as said promoted a sense of togetherness within the Islamic community. Muslims are
faithful believer by being the one who submits him/herself to the will of God. "There is no god but
God, and assuredly God is the All–mighty, the All– wise"(Sura 3:38–64, pg.108, Reader), explains
that god is the only one worthy for worship. The purpose for their existence as a Muslim attains to
be their search for peace and space during their lifetime, and achievement of eternal salvation in
their afterlife. "But as for the believers, who do deeds of righteousness, He will pay them in full

Similarities Between Islam And Mormonism
Islam and Mormonism
Islam and Mormonism are two monotheistic religions whose origins go back to Abraham, but were
founded within the last 1500 years. There are many similarities between the religions, and of course,
many differences.
The Qur'an is the sacred text of Islam. Muslims believe that Muhammad, at twenty–three years of
age, received revelation from God over the next twenty–three years through the angel Gabriel.
Muslims view the Qur'an as God's final revelation and would not accept any other revelations. They
believe that Muhammad was the final prophet. For most Muslims, the Qur'an is only really the
sacred word of God if it is in Arabic. Muslims believe that the current Qur'an is exactly the same as
what was revealed to Muhammad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Mormonism, there is something similar to the Five Pillars of Islam in that they have a list of
beliefs that they see as their main or most important beliefs which are listed in the Thirteen Articles
of Faith. The most important of those articles of faith would be Mormonism's version of the Five
Pillars of Islam. The first article of faith is probably the most important one: that we believe in God,
the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. The next "Pillar of
Mormonism" would be the second article of faith in my opinion: that we believe that men will be
punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression. The next Pillar of Mormonism would
be the third article of faith:that we believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be
saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. The next and in my opinion, the most
important of all our articles of faith is the fourth one: that we believe that the first principles and
ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third,
Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy
Ghost. You could also break that article of faith up and say that the four ordinances and principles
listed in the fourth article of faith are four of the "Pillars of Mormonism". The last Pillar of
Mormonism would be that we believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated
correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. This is important because it
sets us apart from other religions, especially other Christian religions. There are many beliefs in
Mormonism and many beliefs in Islam, and just as the Five Pillars of Islam outline the most
important beliefs of Islamic belief, the Thirteen Articles of Faith outline the most important and
basic beliefs of Mormonism. The Five Pillars of

Beliefs
Muslims believe that God revealed His final message to humanity through the Islamic prophet
Muhammad (c. 570 – July 6, 632) via the angel Gabriel.[16] Muhammad is considered to have been
God's final prophet, the "Seal of the Prophets". The Qur'an is believed by Muslims to be the
revelations Muhammad received in 23 years of his preaching.[17] Muslims hold that the message of
Islam – submission to the will of the one God – is the same as the message preached by all the
messengers sent by God to humanity since Adam. Muslims believe that "Islam is the eternal
religion, described in the Qur'an as 'the primordial nature upon which God created mankind.'[18]

Another theory traces the etymology of the word to the Aramaic Alâhâ.[24][25] According to F. E.
Peters, "The Qur'an insists, Muslims believe, and historians affirm that Muhammad and his
followers worship the same God as the Jews(29:46). The Quran's Allah is the same Creator God
who covenanted with Abraham". Peters states that the Qur'anic portrayal of God is more powerful,
more remote than Yahweh. It is also depicted as a universal deity, unlike Yahweh who closely
follows Israelites.[26] Allâh is also used by Arab speaking Christian and Jewish people in reference
to God.[27] The usage of the definite article in Allah linguistically indicates the divine unity.
Muslims reject the Christian doctrine concerning the trinity of God, seeing it as akin to polytheism.
God is described in a sura of the Qu'ran as: "...God, the One and Only; God, the Eternal, Absolute;
He begetteth not, nor is He begotten; And there is none like unto Him."[28]
Qur'an
The first sura in a Qur'anic manuscript by Hattat Aziz Efendi.
The Qur'an is considered by Muslims to be the literal, undistorted word of God, and is the central
religious text of Islam. It has also been called, in English, the Koran and, archaically, the Alcoran.

Should ISIS Be Called Islamic Or Non-Islamic?
When making a moral argument about how to assess ISIS, should ISIS be called Islamic or non–

it more illustrates a terrorist group. The followers of ISIS are devoted to their scriptures and give
reasons for their actions, which easily elevates their standard higher than other terrorist groups such
as Al–Qaeda. Nonetheless, the path they are walking in order to reach their goal is immoral. The fact
that ISIS abides by its version of Islamic scripture and shows sincerity in its work, makes a case on
why they are Islamic. Their reasoning behind

Plurality And Pluralism In Islam
Based upon my further observation as a scholar and a Muslim, I find a lot of incompatibility about
your interpretation of Islam with the Qur'an. The Qur'an implies that all religions shall be more
emphasis on pluralism (diversity and tolerance), and I do believe in it. According to my
understanding on pluralism in Islam, it emphasizes more to the religious tolerance, and does not
view Islam as the only religion to be recognized in the world. Pluralism I meant here also can
simply be recognized as a major foundation in maintaining the state and the society because
basically people are diverse one another. As a true pluralism means acknowledging that all members
of society have a right to be able to embrace the religion in which accordance with their beliefs and
everyone is obliged to respect and honor them (as cited by Munawar, 32). Not only Islam, but ...

Islam 's Views On Islam
In recent years, the religion Islam has been the topic of many discussions. Most of these discussions
center around the recent acts of terrorism. Those who have never had the opportunity to learn about
Islam may not understand the basic principles and teachings of the religion. This lack of
understanding leads to discrimination, a distorted view of what Islam stands for and, at its extreme,
a hatred for anyone who practices Islam. When a person takes the time to learn about Islam, they
will find that it is not that much different from Judaism or Christianity. Muslims recite from the
Qur'an, just as Christians read from the Bible. Muslims also have five pillars that they must
accomplish and they have certain taboos that they must stay away from. When one looks at these
three things, they will see that Islam is actually a religion that is rooted in mercy and peace.
The Qur'an is considered the holy scripture of Islam. The word Qur'an is translated as 'recitation' or
'reading'. Muslims hold fast to their belief that the Qur'an was revealed to Muhammad after it had
been written in heaven. They also believe that the Qur'an is the direct word of God and that no
human has been the author of it. This is in contrast to the Christian Bible, which has been authored
by humans. Muslims regard the Qur'an as being God's last words to mankind. Since the beginning of
Islam, Muslims have recited the Qur'an as a "ritual act and a source of Allah's blessing because it

Islam : The Six Main Beliefs Of Islam
Islam has six main beliefs in the Six Pillars of Faith, fundamental beliefs that every Muslim must
follow, however, I will only be covering three main beliefs; the belief in Allah the only God, the
belief in the Prophets and the belief in the Angels. All these beliefs are mentioned in the Holy
Qur'an, the Islamic sacred book, and also mentioned by Muhammad the Prophet, God's messenger.
The most central and important belief in all of Islam is that there is only one supreme God, who
goes by Allah in the Arabic language. The belief in Allah as the only God is the foundation of the
Islamic religion, as the holy teachings of the Qur'an are mostly centered around this belief. "That is
Allah, your Lord; there is no deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is
Disposer of all things." – Holy Qur'an verse 6:102. As stated in the Holy Qur'an, Allah is the creator
of the Universe and the maker of Heaven, Earth and all of mankind. According to Islam, no event
occurs within our Universe without Allah's knowledge or consent. "He is Allah, who is One, Allah,
the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born, nos if there to Him any equivalent." – Holy Qur'an
verse 112:1. 'Oneness of Allah' meaning that Allah is the one and only god of all people whether it is
the past, present or future, as the Holy Qur'an states that Allah is the 'One', as everything solely
depends on Him, therefore, He requires no support and has no relatives, spouses or children.

Worldviews are depicted as solutions to clarify the phenomenon we experience. Groothuis gives
criteria for assessing worldviews like they were hypotheses about the world.13
Mystery or a Paradox. The first criteria states that a worldview should not rely on mystery, but it
should explain something.14 Every religion has certain fundamental beliefs, such as the, Creation.
The idea of the creation has been a mystery or paradox for religion because of the concept of God

Once Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said,
"O Allah! Make me among those who, when they commit an act of virtue , feel good, and when they

Forgiveness from God :
The word "Allah is Most Merciful" are repeated many times throughout the Quran. In Islam, the
individuals who commit a sin ask for forgiveness directly from God , there is no intermediary . In
the Quran it says,
"God loves those who turn unto him in repentance and He loves those who keep themselves pure ".

Qur An Vs Bible
The text in the Qur'an and in the Bible share many of the same stories and messages, but they also
share many notable differences. In the Qur'an, the prophet Muhammad "received communications
directly from God" (858) and every message or story received from God was added to the Qur'an.
The messages he received from God were not written down at first, but it was Muhammad's duty to
spread the word received from God verbally to many people. The Qur'an was later put into words
during the rule of Abu Bakr. The Bible, however, was written by many different people in many
different versions. Like the Qur'an, the Bible depicts many different narratives that are written in
third person. The narrator both the Qur'an and in the Bible are God, but spoken ... Show more

Arabic Calligraphy : An Integral Part Of Islamic Culture
Arabic Calligraphy is based upon the development of the Arabic alphabet and is intimately tied to
the history of Islam and the writings of the Qur'an. The word calligraphy, is defined as 'beautiful
writing" and is considered to be one of the most noble artistic expressions in the Islamic world.
Arabic Calligraphy has become an integral part of Islamic culture mainly because Islam by nature is
aniconic, which discourages the artistic representation of animals and human beings. As a result of
this, the art of Islamic culture gravitated towards the art of calligraphy.
In the year 612 A.D. the first verse of the Qur'an fell upon the prophet Muhammad. This is known as
the "Night of Destiny" and is sacred to all Muslims. The verse states: "Read, in the name of the Lord
who creates, creates man from a clot! Read, for your Lord is most generous; [it is He] who teaches
by the means of the pen." (Mandel 7) It is from this passage that the origin of the reed pen, also
called the "qalam' in Arabic became the proper tool for Arabic script. The Muslims revered the use
of natural writing and believed it was the beginning of all knowledge, both spiritually and
scientifically. It was from this belief that transformed Arabic Calligraphy into a noble art form. From
the beginning of Islam, Arabic writing was very imperfect and primitive, but over time it gradually
evolved into compositions abundant in "hands", also known as "styles" or "characters". (Mandel 7)

Similarities And Differences Between Christianity And Islam
One of the main differences between Christianity and Islam is the relationship with both religions
and Jesus Christ. The teachings of each religion follow the ideology of said religion. The way the
Qur'an and the Bible address the topic of Jesus Christ is complex as there are many similarities, yet
there is a significant difference that causes conflict between the two religions. The question of was
Jesus Christ the son of God is what often causes conflict between the religions. Some say that the
differences are so significant that the two religions hold opposing and irreconcilable views on Jesus
Christ. Although certain views may be opposing, there are not so opposing that they become
irreconcilable. When talking about Jesus Christ in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Qur'an is very explicit in starting that God blessed Mary with Jesus however, he is not the father
of Jesus. Mary conceived Jesus after God "breathed into her" (21:19) but because God is not a
physical being he can not be the father of Jesus.
This also brings up how in Islam, when you consider that God is not the father of Jesus Christ his
divinity, that he possesses in Christianity is taken away. This means in Islam Jesus is seen as merely
a prophet, rather than the divine being that he is in the Bible. What this does is affect the mean of
what his miracles and his death mean in the context of the faith of Islam. The Qur'an makes the
claim that Jesus was never actually crucified. The Qur'an claims that Jesus was not killed by the
Jews like the Bible claims and that God just took Jesus upon to heaven. The claim that Jesus was not
crucified also goes with the fact that in Islam there is no original sin. Which in turn would mean that
there is no reason for Jesus to be crucified and die.
Back to the point of Jesus not being the son of God, this brings into question the holy trinity. The
Qur'an acknowledges God and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is never mentioned, which goes with the idea
in the Qur'an that God stands only and is bound to no one, not even the Holy Spirit. To have the
trinity in Islam is to associate something or someone with God that is not God. This is

a feature that exists in all languages, and serves different purposes, rhetorical, emphatic, or

What! (A book) not in Arabic and (the Messenger) an Arab.] (Qur'an 41:44). As Ali [3, p. xi], in his
preface to the first edition of his translation of the Holy Qur'an, states, it is the duty of every Muslim
–– man, woman or child –– to read the Qur'an and understand it according to his own capacity. For
non–Arabic Muslims, this poses something of a problem. As Cook [4, p. 88] points out, Arabic is
not just the original language of the Qur'an (as ancient Hebrew was the original language of the
Torah); it is the language of the Qur'an. Therefore, talking about "translating the Qur'an", is
problematic. The question that needs to be posed is: Is the Qur'an – as a sacred text – translatable?
On the one hand, the view of the untranslatability of sacred texts is championed by Stiener's
comments (in Ali [6, p. 174]) on the troubles encountered when translating the word of God. He
states in his foreword to Translating Religious Texts [6, p. xiii] "Here we flounder in deep waters. If
a text is 'revealed', if its initial encoding is then transferred into a mundane and fallible sign–system,

Analysis Of Surah Al Kahf
Analysis of Surah Al Kahf
Introduction
The eighteenth surah (chapter) – "The Cave", is among the earliest of revelations revealed to the
Prophet Muhammad ‫ﷺ‬ . Regarding this surah the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬ is reported as saying "whoever recites
surah al Kahf on Jumu'ah (Friday) will have illumination from the light from one Jumu'ah to the
next" – this assertion may be due to another narration in which he ‫ﷺ‬ said "whoever recites three ayat
(verses) from the beginning of al Kahf he is protected from the fitnah (great trials and tribulations)
of ad–Dajjal (the antichrist)" .

Just as the people of the cave were tested with their religious conviction amid endemic persecution,
so too will the conviction of people be tested at the time of ad–Dajjal's coming. Dr Yassir Qadhi
cites the hadith of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬as drawing a parallel to the people of the cave in that the fitnah of
religion is something to take great precaution against, or even flee from .
The exchange between the affluent and poor man (verses 32 – 44)
The following story is that of a dialogue between two men; one to whom had been given a bountiful
garden, high societal status and thamar . Although the verses prior credit his financial security to
Allah verses 34 – 36 depict the man self ascribing his fortune and denouncing as–saa'ah – of which
ultimately lead to the destruction of all his produce .
Hadith states the Dajjal will come at a time of rampant poverty and famine with a "mountain of
bread and a river of water " and will lay claim to having control over cultivation – however, the
lesson to be drawn from the hadith and within these verses, through the man of lower status is that
there is "no power except in Allah" , the true creator – and so wealth, or lack thereof, can also be a
fitnah one should seek protection from.

The Western media disregards the faults in the Western culture and religion by falsely depicting
Muslim women as oppressed and living very uncomfortable lives. The Western media criticizes the
way women dress and states that it is a sign of female submission. They believe that women wear

Furthermore, Muslim women are portrayed as oppressed and abused by their husbands. Through
this portrayal, the Western media limits domestic violence to the Islamic culture and religion, which

The Western culture disregards many factors that prove that this statement is a fallacy. The Western
media spreads false generalizations of Muslim women around the world, which results in society
believing in these fallacies. "In crime dramas such as CSI or Criminal Minds, Muslim women are
almost always represented as victims of male domestic violence; women's appearances in police
films or television shows were often cut short by a male who asserts that he is in change." (Media
Portrayals of Religion: Islam). These kinds of television shows are examples of the way that the
Western media depicts Muslim women as helpless and abused. These kinds of generalizations
suggest that the Western media believes that Muslim men are more superior to Muslim women. The
media disregards that fact that this issue is not limited to the Islamic culture because it is also an
issue in the Western culture and religion. Furthermore, domestic violence is not and will never be
limited to just the Islamic religion. This is proven by the statistic that "On any given day in Canada,
more than 3,300 (along with their 3,000 children) are forced to sleep in an emergency shelter to
escape domestic violence. Every night, about 200 women are turned away because the shelters are

The Jahiliyya Period Versus the Qur'anic Period Essay
The concept of Jahiliyya has been widespread throughout the Pre–Islamic world. Jahiliyya is
ultimately the act of ignorance. Many people often worshipped idols and obeyed them as if they
were God. Whenever a calamity would befall them, they would immediately turn to the idols and
ask them for assistance. Unknowingly, the people of the Pre–Islamic world thought that these idols
possessed the authority to quickly take care of manners in a timely fashion. Many people who lived
in the Pre–Islamic world frankly did not know that these idols were incapable of guiding them in
any way, shape, or form. How was poetry significant in the Pre–Islamic world? Many turned to

ignorance, they also possessed a sense of arrogance. Allah warns us that he does not like those who
are arrogant because it in turn leads to ignorance. The disbelievers did not feel ashamed of
themselves when they associated other figures with Allah. However, their connection with poetry
allowed them to express their feelings and uncensored lives, freely. They used poetry as a means of
articulating life through a different perspective. Their lack of understanding their purpose in the
worldly life put them at a great disadvantage. Jahiliyya poetry has been widely recognized as poetry
of those who were in a state of bewilderment. Many of them disregarded the message that Prophet
Muhammad (pbuh) was sent to spread, which was ultimately the truth. An analogy that sums up the

refers to something apparent that one disregards. This can be seen as someone who acknowledges

Islam and Christianity There are 7 billion people living all around the world. Everybody has grown
up enriched in different cultures, beliefs, traditions, and social standings. Each person, with their
own developed views of the world, following a religion such as Christianity and Islam or
specifically choosing not to follow a religion, even have many similarities. Christianity and Islam,
both, follow by a sacred book of their God's word although the Bible is also written by many other
authors . They both also have a designated place of worship. Christians gather in a church although
the bible does not specifically talk about attending church. Muslims, on the other hand, gather at a
mosque that the Qur'an says they should attend as often as possible. Christians follow the bible to
guide their way towards Jesus Christ. It is made up of sixty–six different books which are divided up
into two different sections: the old testament and the new testament. With inspiration and influence
of the Holy spirit and a time span of thirteen centuries, contributions from over 40 different authors
were mended into one sacred book. These authors ranged from farmers to kings and shepards to
physicians, people from all different walks of life have stories in the Bible ("Facts about the Bible.")

The Walking Qur An
In addition to the embodiment of the Qur'an through bodily transmissions and ethical cultivation,
Rudolph Ware in his book, The Walking Qur'an, proposes understanding embodiment of the Qur'an
as not only a bodily epistemology but also as an religious prism to perceive the ontology of human
beings in both the past and present. In a follow–up piece addressing criticisms and questions, Ware
explains in one neat line the objective of his book: "If I could add a single line [to The Walking
Qur'an], it would be that the book takes Qur'an schooling as a window onto a particular
epistemology of embodiment, and then uses that epistemology as a window into history"
("Traditions" 678). Not only does Ware propose an epistemology of embodiment but also ... Show

Although he has been critiqued for disparaging Reformist variants of Islam, these critiques, in my
opinion, fail to see his particular utilization of the embodiment of Qur'anic knowledge. For instance,
Adeline Masquelier in her essay "Qur'an Schooling and the Production of Mindful Bodies in West
Africa" is correct to critique Ware's final polemic against Reformist Islam as lacking a fair insight
about its historical circumstances and relationship with the other Islamic discursive traditions;
however, her comparison of Saba Mahmood's embodiment of piety exhibited in her book Politics of
Piety and Ware's conceptualization of the term undercuts Ware's unique approach and paints
embodiment with the same brush (Masquelier 189–190). Failing to acknowledge the
epistemological project that comes with embodying the Qur'an in Reformist Islam's particular way,
such as the adoption of specific subjectivities and modes of piety, reduces the differences the West
African epistemology possesses, for "The Walking Qur'an is not only the Qur'an embodied but also
the Qur'an in action" [his italics] (Ware, WQ 14). Overall, whether through the embodiment of the
memorization and dispositions or the becoming of the literal walking, talking, and living Qur'an,
these two conceptualizations of embodiment prove the important point that the Qur'an is intricately
tied to the Muslim's corporeal interactions in this physical existence, for in every motion, the Qur'an

Islam : A Religion Of Violence
The Refuting of Islam being born a Religion of Violence
There are those in the world that maintain that Islam is a religion born of violence, but many
scholars, including Timothy Rowe and William T. Cavanaugh, maintain that Islam was not a religion
born of violence instead a religion that was born into a violent culture. This thesis by both scholars
allows for the interpretation of Islam that looks not only at the actions of today, but also at the
historical foundations of Islam from its birth in 610 CE, when Mohammad received his first

Then in the year 610 CE, while meditating in a cave on Mount Hira, near the city of Mecca,

years. After early persecution in Mecca in 622 CE Muhammed left with his wife, Khadija, and his
Uncle, Abu Talib, to travel to Medina, then known as Yathrib, where Muhammed would find success
with establishing the new religion. This event was called the Hijra, and marketed the beginning of
the Muslin calendar. By 629 CE Muhammed had converted Medina to Islam, and he had begun to
amass a personal army to take on Mecca. While Muhammed's actions may have seemed to lead
towards violent actions with the creation of a large army his true purpose could be seen with The
Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, which was a peace treaty signed by Mecca and Medina in 628 CE. The
Treaty of Hudaybiyyah had been broken by the Meccan tribe of the Quraysh, who had persecuted
and murdered Muslims in cold blood. The city of Mecca fell to Muhammed's forces without
bloodshed in 629 CE, which could be attributed to Muhammed's urgings of nonviolence towards the
people of Mecca. In Muhammed's words after the fighting he mentioned that "The Just war is

inflicted on Muslims." The statement "The Just war is always evil..."

Islamic Importance of: Tawhid, Akhira, Books of Allah and...
Explain the Islamic beliefs about Tawhid, Akhira and the Books of Allah.
Islam is described as a living religious system that applies to an estimated one billion people
globally. The key beliefs in Islam revolve around the elements of Tawhid, Akhira and the Books of
Allah.
Tawhid is the most basic tenet in Islam, where each Muslim worships one omnipotent, omnipresent
and omniscient deity and personality. It is the acknowledgment that Allah is the "Creator and
Provider" and the belief in worshiping Allah's many attributes. This is evidenced in the Qur'an,
"Glorified be Allah, the Lord of the Throne, bow to He and what they attribute to Him!" [Surah Al
Anbiya: 22]. In Islam, Allah set the requirement that humans must perpetually ... Show more content

However, various other sources aid the process. It is written, "In the Qur'an we put thee on the right
way of religion so follow thou that way" [45:18]. An example is what is considered "Halal"
(permitted) and "Haraam" (forbidden). The Sunna and Hadith are used second. The Sunnis use Ijma,
the consensus of religious leaders whilst the Shi'ias turn to Imams and the Ayatollah, the leaders of
the religion moved by divine wisdom.
After that Qiyas appears which finds similarity in one situation and applies analogies and teachings
to another.
The Five Pillars are defined as fundamental practice. They are: the Shahadah, declaration of faith,
Salah (prayer), which is believed to "restrain one from shameful deeds", Zakat (charity), Saum
(fasting during Ramadan) and the Hajj (pilgrimage). As no bird can not fly conveniently with only
one wing, a Muslim can't be welcomed in the Heavens unless he is keeping good balance of the two
Islam wings. The Qur'an outlines how these foundational pillars are to be completed to balance
adherent's lives.

The Controversy Of Book Burning
The Qur'an is a religious Islamic book said to be the word of God by Muslims. As the editor in chief
of the newspaper there are many reasons as to why this student's letter should have not been
published in the newspaper. Some reasons why are because the book burning goes against part of
the first amendment "freedom to exercise religion". The second would be that it could intentionally
give offence to anyone who practices this religion, it is also tempting others to sin who don't either
understand what is going on or someone who just wants to be a part of the crowd. Lastly this could
cause endangerment to other lives by reckless behavior of people who turn the book burning into
bigger problems.
By publishing this letter in the newspaper it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is a strong likelihood that many people could get hurt if this book burning turns into rioting or
something of that demeanor. Rioting is more common around the world these days, which as most
people have seen it gets rapidly out of hand and cause people to lose their lives, even businesses are
lost. If people who believe in this religion feel threatened or angry due to this public book burning
things could turn bad very quickly. Even people who don't practice the religion but still don't agree
with the whole situation could become angry and the situation itself could escalate quickly into
something life threatening.
As editor in chief of the newspaper I do not believe the letter should have been published due to the
consequences that could arise from this letter. Due to it going against the first amendment,
intentionally offend someone and their religion, tempt others to transgress, and it could endanger
lives by reckless behavior, this letter could cause more harm and damage than it would be worth to

Spread Of Islam Dbq Essay
There were hundreds of religions in the sixth century. However, only one became the fastest
growing religion in the world today. Islam was started by a man named Muhammad. Muhammad
was an ordinary man with and extraordinary purpose. In 610 C.E., Muhammad went into a cave in
Mecca to pray. While praying, the archangel Gabriel appeared to him with revelations from God. He
then used the revelations he received to introduce Islam to everyone around him. It was here that
Muhammad was named Prophet, and Mecca became the birthplace of one of the largest religions in
the world. Islam spread rapidly because of military conquests, existing trade routes, and the overall
appeal to the message.

Mecca's central location was imperative to the success the city had in terms of trade, which is a
major key to the expansion of Islam. In the article Great Ages of Man: Early Islam, Desmond
Stewart writes, "it [Mecca] was at the crossroads of lucrative caravan trade" (Document A). The
centrality of the location of Mecca allowed for people from all over the Middle East and Asia to be
introduced to the new religion of Islam. The ideas and customs then spread along these routes. As
well as being located on land routes, Mecca was also located on sea routes which also increased
trade. Along with the central location of Mecca, it was also a center of pilgrimage trade. People from
other areas of Arabia, often entered Mecca in hopes of visiting the Ka'bah (Document A). The
Ka'bah, at the time, was one of the holiest Pagan sites, thus bringing in many people of different
religions. While on pilgrimage, people would trade and interact with those who had converted to
Islam. In examining Arab trade routes in 570, many would conclude that Islam spread quickly
because of the ideas that spread along existing trade

Angels Are Creatures With Wings

Racial Profiling
The word "Islam" is taken from the Arabic word "Salema", which translates to obedience, peace,
purity, and submission. There are many people who don't know that these traits are the foundation of
Muslim religion. Ignorance on a subject often leads to false judgment, and the deep–rooted conflict
between the United States and the Islamic State is largely due to such ignorance. An entity cannot
involve itself in another's affairs and make calculated decisions if it does not educate itself on the

The United States is built upon the values of the constitution, and it is clearly stated within its first
amendment that freedom of religion is one of the most liberating aspects. America has come to be
known as a melting pot of races and religions. Because of Islamophobia, Islam is the foam that rises
to the top of the cauldron in the boiling heat of the rest of the religions. Muslims are excluded and
discriminated against in public constantly in recent times. People have become so conditioned to
believe that Muslims are dangerous that racial profiling has become an everyday occurrence.
According to some people, seeing a woman in a hijab automatically means she is a terrorist. This
stereotype was formed after the events of 9/11, and former president George W. Bush launched the
Department of Homeland Security. This department has branched off into many different
committees designed to protect the country from future terrorist attacks like 9/11, but instead have
become corrupt. In fact, author Seth Wessler says that the department makes deportation and racial
profiling daily occurrences by targeting women and men who do not have any connection to
terrorism (Wessler). It is this Islamophobia that can lead to the radicalization of practicing Muslims
in the United States. The accused may start to wonder if the Islamic radicals are right, and become
more interested in the ideals of ISIS. Not only will this create future problems, but racial profiling
based on discrimination is preventing the acceptance of Islam. The Department of Homeland
Security is doing more harm than good in these situations. Another case of extreme discrimination
takes place on a smaller scale within state governments. Some states are creating their own
committees to fight against terrorism. One of these is Florida, where police in a residential area
learned from a self–proclaimed expert on

How Is God (Allah) Described In These Passages
1) How is God (Allah) described in these passages? What Muslim religious practices do they reveal?
These passages from the Qur'an described Allah as an indivisible merciful God who guides
Muslims. Allah was described as the compassionate "Lord of the Worlds," who is the king of the day
of judgement. These few statements revealed that the monolithic religion of Islam believes there is
only one true God that rules over everything, not multiple. Another practice that is revealed, was
their belief that God will guide Muslims in their daily lives, so that, they would reach Allah in
heaven. Other Islamic practices that were revealed through the Qur'an: believing in the unseen,
steadfast in prayer, and giving alms to the poor.
2) What is the fate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who were unbelievers, God set a seal upon their hearts and ears, and dimmed their vision,
leading to grievous woeful life. God took their sick hearts and makes them sicker, punishing them
for their disbelief. This did appear to be contradictory, as Muslims and the Qur'an heavily
emphasized God's compassion and mercy. In this case, God was not showing mercy to the
disbelievers, contradicting the Qur'an's initial statements about their belief of who God was.
3) What does this selection say about religious violence? What about nonreligious violence?
The Qur'an stated that God does not love aggressors. The Qur'an stated that you should fight for the
sake of God against those that fight against you, but only if they attack first. Upon being attacked,
you should slay them where you find them and drive them out of the places from where they drove
you; fight against them until God's religion reigns supreme. For nonreligious violence, the Qur'an
stated mankind has the right to guard himself against evil, but only if the means are just; one should
not devour one's property by unjust means or be the first to attack.
4) How does the Qur'an describe Jews and Christians? How does this selection criticize their
beliefs? How is Islam connected to Judaism and

Muslims and The Holy Qur'an
There is a reasonable number of researches and studies conducted by Muslims and Non–Muslims on
English translations of the Holy Qur'an. However, little attention has been given to the translation of
Qur'anic euphemistic expressions into their equivalents. For the previous studies didn't discuss
euphemisms in the Holy Qur'an as culture–bound units and therefore suggested traditional solutions
for their translations such as paraphrase and transliteration. The proposed study differs from the
previous ones because it looks into theories of translation including functional and formal
equivalence. Moreover, the study will examine different exegeses of the Noble Qur'an to obtain a
closer view of the intended meaning. In addition, the study sheds light on the rhetorical style of the
Holy Quran in addressing people that the euphemism reflects. Thereupon, the importance of this
study stems from the well–planned strategy that it proposes to translate the Qur'anic euphemistic
expressions into English. This strategy includes the translation of each euphemistic expression into
its cultural and lexical equivalent, if any, in the target language. If there is no equivalence, the study
attempts to use other alternative methods, namely: gloss translation, footnotes, transliteration,
omission, compensation and paraphrase. Outline of the study
The proposed study will be divided into five chapters. Chapter one will set out the background of
the study and present various definitions of

  • 1. The Varying Representations of Jesus in the Bible and the... An prophetic figure common to both the Bible and the Qur'an is Jesus, however, Jesus is presented in a different ways in both texts. Sometimes the differences are subtle and sometimes more radical. The New Testament stories about Jesus from primary sources, such as his disciples. The Qur'an was written much later in the time of Mohammad in approximately 650 AD and Jesus' life, and its power, comes from received wisdom diluted by generations of people. The main difference between the two depictions of Jesus is the portrayal of his divinity. In the Bible, Jesus Christ is seen as the Son of God, the Messiah, who was sent to the earth to spread the 'Good News' and who was ultimately sacrificed himself to purge the sin of humanity. The Qur'an and Bible suggest that Jesus was born divinely, however Christianity also suggests that Jesus is a holy being who was sent to guide humanity. In the Bible Jesus is part of the Holy Trinity and was conceived through the Holy Spirit. This is shown in the bible passage, which reads: "The angel answered, "The Holy Spirit will come down to you, and God's power will come over you. So your child will be called the holy son of God" (Luke 1:35) (International Bible Society, 1984) And also in the passage "No one has ever seen God. The only son, who is truly God and is closest to the Father, has shown us what God is like" (John 1:18) (International Bible Society, 1984). They trace their origins to Abraham; believe in prophecy, apostles, revelation, scripture, resurrection, and life after death. Christianity and Islam have related theological traditions; believe in one omnipotent God who is concerned with human salvation. Both religions are somewhat similar in how they embrace their beliefs; what the church is to Christianity, the umma is to Islam. Notwithstanding these important similarities, however, these two worldviews have a number of significant differences as well. Muslims do not support the theory that human beings advanced from apes, but that that the life of human beings began with the creation of Adam and Hawwa (Eve) and that God did not create them from dust and breathe life into Adam to become the first man but that he reached where he is now after transitioning through many stages. The Qur'an revealed that man's first stage was a condition of non–existence. Prior to the creation of the universe, there was a stage period when nothing existed. (Qur'an, Surah19) Another stage in the creation process was a state of existence when the human body was created but the brain or its active abilities were not yet developed. Man was a human body, which was not yet a human being. There was the physical human body minus the evolved and perfected human brain or mind. He was in the form of a being without consciousness and intelligence, not aware of himself or of other things (Qur'an Surah 19). The third stage in the evolution of man was reached when he entered a state of being and began to form through the seed of the male, planted in the body of the female through sexual intercourse. The fourth stage developed the human brain to perfection and presented a highly developed form of awareness and intelligence. After completing the creation, the Qur'an states that Allah "settled Himself upon the Throne" to oversee His work (Quran, Surah 50:38). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is the revelation of God that the Prophet Muhammad received by the archangel Gabriel and written in Arabic language. It provides Muslims with guidelines and detailed teachings for a just society, proper human behaviors, and an egalitarian economic system. One can only truly understand the teachings of the Qur'an by exploring the life of the prophet Muhammad and grasping the important message and tone that is held within the book. His dedication to spread the message of God was phenomenal and he did not give up despite his harsh treatment. Muhammad received some good news from the city of Yathrib. The city was in need of a leader and pledged to obey and worship Allah alone and defend him to the death. Muhammad and his loyal followers fled to Yathrib and left the city of Mecca. Yathrib was later renamed Medinat al–Nabi, "the City of the Prophet," and is now known as Medina, "the City." Muhammad died in 632, having conquered all of Arabia for Islam. He was loved and highly respected by man Muslims. His battle for peace never ended and his message from God continues to spread present day. The Qur'an was written over a period of twenty–three years beginning on December 22 609 CE, and concluding in 632. Muslims claim that Muhammad spoke the whole Quran to his followers and many of them memorized the verses word by word and later wrote it down. The Qur'an was divided into 114 chapters, called surah(s). These chapters are arranged according to length, which vary from 3 to 286 verses. The chapters of the Qur'an also have a title that comes from a word that is written within the text. However, some titles are not linked to the subject matter in each surah. Separate Muslims From State Outline Separate Muslims from State Daniel M Elliott (Jr) ENG122 Nancy Segovia September 20, 2014 Separate Muslims from State Outline Throughout the depths of recorded history Muslims have constantly committed mass murders upon innocent people in the name of Islam. According to long established conventional Islamic views, Muhammad's revelations start the Qur'an off in 610. Dating back to as early as 627, the Prophet Muhammad's followers have been recorded of murdering large numbers of "non–believers" and even believers for that matter (Ye 'or, 1985). While researching wars declared in the name of Islam, the words "convert" or "die" (more often than not they surfaced together making the claim "convert or die") surfaced exceedingly often. Despite the common belief imprinted into the minds of nearly every United States citizen/civilian whom attended or is attending public school with the U.S., oppressing a people based off of their religious beliefs has the ability to be beneficial to the world on a global scale. Muslims should not be allowed to act as political advocates considering Islam gives approval of segregation, provides obligations of the religions followers to commit senseless acts of violence, and because of the fact that Islam allows systematic lying as a religious policy. Islam is also one of the youngest major religions as the "Qur'an "came down" to Muhammad six centuries after Jesus, so that a large portion of the developed world which it soon overran had been evangelized for centuries" (Burrell 1). Although Islam was budding, it has grown into one of the world's largest religions having a following of over one billion. Islam is known to be the fastest growing faith worldwide, and in recent years has made striking advances in North America (3). "The rapid expansion of the community of Believers after Muhammad's death has its roots in the events of the last years of his life" ( Donner 92). Islam can be abridged into three timeframes that are as follows; The Time of Ingratitude, Muhammad 's life and story, and the organizations and laws that were created after the demise of the prophet. The holiest declaration or "Shahada" in Islam is "There is no god but Allah and Muhammad is his messenger" (Fieser 373). Islam found its origins in Arabia and it takes after every one of the standards given by God which were translated through Muhammad. Muslims on the other hand, are the individuals who hone this religion as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Everything in the universe is dependent on God and no being live or not can do without Him. God sustains everything in the universe (1) and man is expected to wholly depend on Him and be aware of this unseen being. The Qur'an teaches it is rational and reasonable to have faith in the omnipotent and merciful God, as He is central to human existence. He is part of creation and not detached in any way to it and man's main purpose is to serve him diligently. It comes as a God's command that every being must adhere to the teachings of the Qur'an as they carry the intent and the expectations of God to man. In His ways of helping man, God shows mercy by sending him messengers and through revelations (9). Through this man is expected to understand and be aware of God's existence and conduct himself as deserved. In this way, man is guided and judged on the correct way to keep close and the laws of nature expresses what God commands him to do. In Chapter four of the book, man has been given a free choice and a unique responsibility, which can only be achieved through sole dependence on God (68–69). The free choice is the only difference between Him and the rest of the nature. The monotheist relationship has specified the way to maintain that close relationship as only one; to depend on Him and through obeying Him. In the second chapter of the book, another major aspect of the relationship has been revealed. The relationship is tied along a creed in that human actions define ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are many similarities between the religions, and of course, many differences. The Qur'an is the sacred text of Islam. Muslims believe that Muhammad, at twenty–three years of age, received revelation from God over the next twenty–three years through the angel Gabriel. Muslims view the Qur'an as God's final revelation and would not accept any other revelations. They believe that Muhammad was the final prophet. In Mormonism, there is something similar to the Five Pillars of Islam in that they have a list of beliefs that they see as their main or most important beliefs which are listed in the Thirteen Articles of Faith. The most important of those articles of faith would be Mormonism's version of the Five Pillars of Islam. The first article of faith is probably the most important one: that we believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. The next "Pillar of Mormonism" would be the second article of faith in my opinion: that we believe that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam's transgression. The next Pillar of Mormonism would be the third article of faith:that we believe that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel. The next and in my opinion, the most important of all our articles of faith is the fourth one: that we believe that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost. You could also break that article of faith up and say that the four ordinances and principles listed in the fourth article of faith are four of the "Pillars of Mormonism". The last Pillar of Mormonism would be that we believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. This is important because it sets us apart from other religions, especially other Christian religions. Islam Essay Beliefs Muslims believe that God revealed His final message to humanity through the Islamic prophet Muhammad (c. 570 – July 6, 632) via the angel Gabriel.[16] Muhammad is considered to have been God's final prophet, the "Seal of the Prophets". The Qur'an is believed by Muslims to be the revelations Muhammad received in 23 years of his preaching.[17] Muslims hold that the message of Islam – submission to the will of the one God – is the same as the message preached by all the messengers sent by God to humanity since Adam. Muslims believe that "Islam is the eternal religion, described in the Qur'an as 'the primordial nature upon which God created mankind.'[18] [19] Further the Qur'an states that the proper name Muslim was given by ... Peters, "The Qur'an insists, Muslims believe, and historians affirm that Muhammad and his followers worship the same God as the Jews(29:46). The Quran's Allah is the same Creator God who covenanted with Abraham". Peters states that the Qur'anic portrayal of God is more powerful, more remote than Yahweh. It is also depicted as a universal deity, unlike Yahweh who closely follows Israelites.[26] Allâh is also used by Arab speaking Christian and Jewish people in reference to God.[27] The usage of the definite article in Allah linguistically indicates the divine unity. Muslims reject the Christian doctrine concerning the trinity of God, seeing it as akin to polytheism. According to my understanding on pluralism in Islam, it emphasizes more to the religious tolerance, and does not view Islam as the only religion to be recognized in the world. • 33. Islam 's Views On Islam In recent years, the religion Islam has been the topic of many discussions. Most of these discussions center around the recent acts of terrorism. Those who have never had the opportunity to learn about Islam may not understand the basic principles and teachings of the religion. This lack of understanding leads to discrimination, a distorted view of what Islam stands for and, at its extreme, a hatred for anyone who practices Islam. When a person takes the time to learn about Islam, they will find that it is not that much different from Judaism or Christianity. Muslims recite from the Qur'an, just as Christians read from the Bible. Muslims also have five pillars that they must accomplish and they have certain taboos that they must stay away from. When one looks at these three things, they will see that Islam is actually a religion that is rooted in mercy and peace. The Qur'an is considered the holy scripture of Islam. The word Qur'an is translated as 'recitation' or 'reading'. Muslims hold fast to their belief that the Qur'an was revealed to Muhammad after it had been written in heaven. They also believe that the Qur'an is the direct word of God and that no human has been the author of it. This is in contrast to the Christian Bible, which has been authored by humans. Islam : The Six Main Beliefs Of Islam Islam has six main beliefs in the Six Pillars of Faith, fundamental beliefs that every Muslim must follow, however, I will only be covering three main beliefs; the belief in Allah the only God, the belief in the Prophets and the belief in the Angels. All these beliefs are mentioned in the Holy Qur'an, the Islamic sacred book, and also mentioned by Muhammad the Prophet, God's messenger. The most central and important belief in all of Islam is that there is only one supreme God, who goes by Allah in the Arabic language. The belief in Allah as the only God is the foundation of the Islamic religion, as the holy teachings of the Qur'an are mostly centered around this belief. He neither begets nor is born, nos if there to Him any equivalent." – Holy Qur'an verse 112:1. 'Oneness of Allah' meaning that Allah is the one and only god of all people whether it is the past, present or future, as the Holy Qur'an states that Allah is the 'One', as everything solely depends on Him, therefore, He requires no support and has no relatives, spouses or children. Arabic Calligraphy : An Integral Part Of Islamic Culture Arabic Calligraphy is based upon the development of the Arabic alphabet and is intimately tied to the history of Islam and the writings of the Qur'an. The word calligraphy, is defined as 'beautiful writing" and is considered to be one of the most noble artistic expressions in the Islamic world. Arabic Calligraphy has become an integral part of Islamic culture mainly because Islam by nature is aniconic, which discourages the artistic representation of animals and human beings. As a result of this, the art of Islamic culture gravitated towards the art of calligraphy. In the year 612 A.D. the first verse of the Qur'an fell upon the prophet Muhammad. This is known as the "Night of Destiny" and is sacred to all Muslims. The verse states: "Read, in the name of the Lord who creates, creates man from a clot! Read, for your Lord is most generous; [it is He] who teaches by the means of the pen." (Mandel 7) It is from this passage that the origin of the reed pen, also called the "qalam' in Arabic became the proper tool for Arabic script. The Muslims revered the use of natural writing and believed it was the beginning of all knowledge, both spiritually and scientifically. It was from this belief that transformed Arabic Calligraphy into a noble art form. The way the Qur'an and the Bible address the topic of Jesus Christ is complex as there are many similarities, yet there is a significant difference that causes conflict between the two religions. The question of was Jesus Christ the son of God is what often causes conflict between the religions. The Qur'an is very explicit in starting that God blessed Mary with Jesus however, he is not the father of Jesus. Mary conceived Jesus after God "breathed into her" (21:19) but because God is not a physical being he can not be the father of Jesus. This also brings up how in Islam, when you consider that God is not the father of Jesus Christ his divinity, that he possesses in Christianity is taken away. This means in Islam Jesus is seen as merely a prophet, rather than the divine being that he is in the Bible. What this does is affect the mean of what his miracles and his death mean in the context of the faith of Islam. The Qur'an makes the claim that Jesus was never actually crucified. The Qur'an claims that Jesus was not killed by the Jews like the Bible claims and that God just took Jesus upon to heaven. The claim that Jesus was not crucified also goes with the fact that in Islam there is no original sin. Which in turn would mean that there is no reason for Jesus to be crucified and die. Back to the point of Jesus not being the son of God, this brings into question the holy trinity. The Qur'an acknowledges God and the Holy Spirit. Jesus is never mentioned, which goes with the idea in the Qur'an that God stands only and is bound to no one, not even the Holy Spirit. As Ali [3, p. xi], in his preface to the first edition of his translation of the Holy Qur'an, states, it is the duty of every Muslim –– man, woman or child –– to read the Qur'an and understand it according to his own capacity. For non–Arabic Muslims, this poses something of a problem. As Cook [4, p. 88] points out, Arabic is not just the original language of the Qur'an (as ancient Hebrew was the original language of the Torah); it is the language of the Qur'an. Therefore, talking about "translating the Qur'an", is problematic. The question that needs to be posed is: Is the Qur'an – as a sacred text – translatable? On the one hand, the view of the untranslatability of sacred texts is championed by Stiener's comments (in Ali [6, p. 174]) on the troubles encountered when translating the word of God. He states in his foreword to Translating Religious Texts [6, p. xiii] "Here we flounder in deep waters. Dr Yassir Qadhi cites the hadith of the Prophet ‫ﷺ‬as drawing a parallel to the people of the cave in that the fitnah of religion is something to take great precaution against, or even flee from . The exchange between the affluent and poor man (verses 32 – 44) The following story is that of a dialogue between two men; one to whom had been given a bountiful garden, high societal status and thamar . Although the verses prior credit his financial security to Allah verses 34 – 36 depict the man self ascribing his fortune and denouncing as–saa'ah – of which ultimately lead to the destruction of all his produce . Hadith states the Dajjal will come at a time of rampant poverty and famine with a "mountain of bread and a river of water " and will lay claim to having control over cultivation – however, the lesson to be drawn from the hadith and within these verses, through the man of lower status is that there is "no power except in Allah" , the true creator – and so wealth, or lack thereof, can also be a fitnah one should seek protection from. Musa (Moses) and the nameless, knowledgeable 'servant' of Allah (verses 60 – 82) The surah also conveys the story of Musa following a 'servant' to whom had been "taught a certain knowledge" from ... The Western media criticizes the way women dress and states that it is a sign of female submission. They believe that women wear the hijab to show that they are submitting to the Muslim patriarchs and the teachings of the Qur'an. Furthermore, Muslim women are portrayed as oppressed and abused by their husbands. The Western culture disregards many factors that prove that this statement is a fallacy. The Western media spreads false generalizations of Muslim women around the world, which results in society believing in these fallacies. "In crime dramas such as CSI or Criminal Minds, Muslim women are almost always represented as victims of male domestic violence; women's appearances in police films or television shows were often cut short by a male who asserts that he is in change." (Media Portrayals of Religion: Islam). These kinds of television shows are examples of the way that the Western media depicts Muslim women as helpless and abused. These kinds of generalizations suggest that the Western media believes that Muslim men are more superior to Muslim women. The media disregards that fact that this issue is not limited to the Islamic culture because it is also an issue in the Western culture and religion. Furthermore, domestic violence is not and will never be limited to just the Islamic religion. This is proven by the statistic that "On any given day in Canada, more than 3,300 (along with their 3,000 children) are forced to sleep in an emergency shelter to escape domestic violence. Every night, about 200 women are turned away because the shelters are full" (The Facts about Violence against Women). This statistic shows that domestic violence occurs ... • 56. The Jahiliyya Period Versus the Qur'anic Period Essay The concept of Jahiliyya has been widespread throughout the Pre–Islamic world. Jahiliyya is ultimately the act of ignorance. Many people often worshipped idols and obeyed them as if they were God. Whenever a calamity would befall them, they would immediately turn to the idols and ask them for assistance. Unknowingly, the people of the Pre–Islamic world thought that these idols possessed the authority to quickly take care of manners in a timely fashion. Many people who lived in the Pre–Islamic world frankly did not know that these idols were incapable of guiding them in any way, shape, or form. How was poetry significant in the Pre–Islamic world? (Surat: Yunus, Qur'an 10:18). Due to their ignorance, they also possessed a sense of arrogance. Allah warns us that he does not like those who are arrogant because it in turn leads to ignorance. The disbelievers did not feel ashamed of themselves when they associated other figures with Allah. However, their connection with poetry allowed them to express their feelings and uncensored lives, freely. They used poetry as a means of articulating life through a different perspective. Their lack of understanding their purpose in the worldly life put them at a great disadvantage. Jahiliyya poetry has been widely recognized as poetry of those who were in a state of bewilderment. Many of them disregarded the message that Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was sent to spread, which was ultimately the truth. An analogy that sums up the lives of those living in the period of Jahiliyya would be, "The Elephant in the room," which virtually refers to something apparent that one disregards. Everybody has grown up enriched in different cultures, beliefs, traditions, and social standings. Each person, with their own developed views of the world, following a religion such as Christianity and Islam or specifically choosing not to follow a religion, even have many similarities. Christianity and Islam, both, follow by a sacred book of their God's word although the Bible is also written by many other authors . They both also have a designated place of worship. Christians gather in a church although the bible does not specifically talk about attending church. Muslims, on the other hand, gather at a mosque that the Qur'an says they should attend as often as possible. Christians follow the bible to guide their way towards Jesus Christ. It is made up of sixty–six different books which are divided up into two different sections: the old testament and the new testament. With inspiration and influence of the Holy spirit and a time span of thirteen centuries, contributions from over 40 different authors were mended into one sacred book. The Walking Qur An In addition to the embodiment of the Qur'an through bodily transmissions and ethical cultivation, Rudolph Ware in his book, The Walking Qur'an, proposes understanding embodiment of the Qur'an as not only a bodily epistemology but also as an religious prism to perceive the ontology of human beings in both the past and present. In a follow–up piece addressing criticisms and questions, Ware explains in one neat line the objective of his book: "If I could add a single line [to The Walking Qur'an], it would be that the book takes Qur'an schooling as a window onto a particular epistemology of embodiment, and then uses that epistemology as a window into history" ("Traditions" 678). Although he has been critiqued for disparaging Reformist variants of Islam, these critiques, in my opinion, fail to see his particular utilization of the embodiment of Qur'anic knowledge. For instance, Adeline Masquelier in her essay "Qur'an Schooling and the Production of Mindful Bodies in West Africa" is correct to critique Ware's final polemic against Reformist Islam as lacking a fair insight about its historical circumstances and relationship with the other Islamic discursive traditions; however, her comparison of Saba Mahmood's embodiment of piety exhibited in her book Politics of Piety and Ware's conceptualization of the term undercuts Ware's unique approach and paints embodiment with the same brush (Masquelier 189–190). Failing to acknowledge the epistemological project that comes with embodying the Qur'an in Reformist Islam's particular way, such as the adoption of specific subjectivities and modes of piety, reduces the differences the West African epistemology possesses, for "The Walking Qur'an is not only the Qur'an embodied but also the Qur'an in action" [his italics] (Ware, WQ 14). Overall, whether through the embodiment of the memorization and dispositions or the becoming of the literal walking, talking, and living Qur'an, these two conceptualizations of embodiment prove the important point that the Qur'an is intricately tied to the Muslim's corporeal interactions in this physical existence, for in every motion, the Qur'an is ... This thesis by both scholars allows for the interpretation of Islam that looks not only at the actions of today, but also at the historical foundations of Islam from its birth in 610 CE, when Mohammad received his first revelation in a cave on Mount Hira, near the city of Mecca, in what is now Saudi Arabia to the present day misunderstandings of the religion. After early persecution in Mecca in 622 CE Muhammed left with his wife, Khadija, and his Uncle, Abu Talib, to travel to Medina, then known as Yathrib, where Muhammed would find success with establishing the new religion. This event was called the Hijra, and marketed the beginning of the Muslin calendar. By 629 CE Muhammed had converted Medina to Islam, and he had begun to amass a personal army to take on Mecca. While Muhammed's actions may have seemed to lead towards violent actions with the creation of a large army his true purpose could be seen with The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah, which was a peace treaty signed by Mecca and Medina in 628 CE. The Treaty of Hudaybiyyah had been broken by the Meccan tribe of the Quraysh, who had persecuted and murdered Muslims in cold blood. The city of Mecca fell to Muhammed's forces without bloodshed in 629 CE, which could be attributed to Muhammed's urgings of nonviolence towards the people of Mecca. Islam is described as a living religious system that applies to an estimated one billion people globally. Tawhid is the most basic tenet in Islam, where each Muslim worships one omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient deity and personality. It is the acknowledgment that Allah is the "Creator and Provider" and the belief in worshiping Allah's many attributes. As the editor in chief of the newspaper there are many reasons as to why this student's letter should have not been published in the newspaper. Islam was started by a man named Muhammad. Muhammad was an ordinary man with and extraordinary purpose. In 610 C.E., Muhammad went into a cave in Mecca to pray. While praying, the archangel Gabriel appeared to him with revelations from God. He then used the revelations he received to introduce Islam to everyone around him. It was here that Muhammad was named Prophet, and Mecca became the birthplace of one of the largest religions in the world. The centrality of the location of Mecca allowed for people from all over the Middle East and Asia to be introduced to the new religion of Islam. The ideas and customs then spread along these routes. As well as being located on land routes, Mecca was also located on sea routes which also increased trade. Along with the central location of Mecca, it was also a center of pilgrimage trade. People from other areas of Arabia, often entered Mecca in hopes of visiting the Ka'bah (Document A). The Ka'bah, at the time, was one of the holiest Pagan sites, thus bringing in many people of different religions. There are many people who don't know that these traits are the foundation of Muslim religion. Ignorance on a subject often leads to false judgment, and the deep–rooted conflict between the United States and the Islamic State is largely due to such ignorance. America has come to be known as a melting pot of races and religions. Because of Islamophobia, Islam is the foam that rises to the top of the cauldron in the boiling heat of the rest of the religions. Muslims are excluded and discriminated against in public constantly in recent times. People have become so conditioned to believe that Muslims are dangerous that racial profiling has become an everyday occurrence. According to some people, seeing a woman in a hijab automatically means she is a terrorist. This stereotype was formed after the events of 9/11, and former president George W. Bush launched the Department of Homeland Security. This department has branched off into many different committees designed to protect the country from future terrorist attacks like 9/11, but instead have become corrupt. In fact, author Seth Wessler says that the department makes deportation and racial profiling daily occurrences by targeting women and men who do not have any connection to terrorism (Wessler). It is this Islamophobia that can lead to the radicalization of practicing Muslims in the United States. The accused may start to wonder if the Islamic radicals are right, and become more interested in the ideals of ISIS. Not only will this create future problems, but racial profiling based on discrimination is preventing the acceptance of Islam. The Department of Homeland Security is doing more harm than good in these situations. Another case of extreme discrimination takes place on a smaller scale within state governments. • 78. Muslims and The Holy Qur'an There is a reasonable number of researches and studies conducted by Muslims and Non–Muslims on English translations of the Holy Qur'an. However, little attention has been given to the translation of Qur'anic euphemistic expressions into their equivalents. For the previous studies didn't discuss euphemisms in the Holy Qur'an as culture–bound units and therefore suggested traditional solutions for their translations such as paraphrase and transliteration. The proposed study differs from the previous ones because it looks into theories of translation including functional and formal equivalence. Moreover, the study will examine different exegeses of the Noble Qur'an to obtain a closer view of the intended meaning. In addition, the study sheds light on the rhetorical style of the Holy Quran in addressing people that the euphemism reflects. Thereupon, the importance of this study stems from the well–planned strategy that it proposes to translate the Qur'anic euphemistic expressions into English. This strategy includes the translation of each euphemistic expression into its cultural and lexical equivalent, if any, in the target language. If there is no equivalence, the study attempts to use other alternative methods, namely: gloss translation, footnotes, transliteration, omission, compensation and paraphrase.
