launch of the movie such as:
• Release date
• Where you can see it
• The title
• The actors
Posters use imagery to give an initial sense of what the
movie is about. In this one it shows an alien landscape
(left) and eye catching space imagery. This implies that
the film is about space travel and exploration to it’s
desired audience.
Poster uses a
quote to give
the audience a
general sense
of what it is
about
Trailer snippet shows the excitement and
intense nature of the film to capture the
audience. If the audience is captivated by
the trailer, their interest in purchasing and
watching this movie will be greatly
increased.
The music used in the trailer is
fast paced. This greatly
increases the dramatic nature
of the film and makes the trailer
exciting.
12. Character type How they appear in the story – Interstellar - Movie

actual motivation is to be able to come home and see his daughter again.
The Dispatcher Professor Brand - sends Cooper and his team into space in for the mission to save Earth.
The prize The ‘prize’ is for the people of Earth to be saved from their dying planet, however for

13. This movie poster shows all
of the characters in the
movie and the location. It
gives the reader an
understanding of who is in
the film and makes them
wonder what role each
character will play.
‘From the creators of’ is
used to entice the
audience of the previous
film. This makes them
more likely to watch it as
it implies that this movie
will be just as good as
the last one.
This poster uses colour and
spacing to show one of the
main themes of the movie
which is loneliness. The use
of the colour orange on the
centre fish makes it stand
out from the other so it
does not look as if it fits in.
The use of a logo makes it
more recognisable to an
audience if they have seen
it before.
The logo of the producing
companies make people more
likely to watch their other
movies as it reminds people of
the brand. For example: the
Disney logo is associated with
animated family movies,
therefore by repeatedly using
it, they make their movies more
appealing to their audience.
By putting segments of
the exciting scenes in
the trailer, you can make
the movie appear to be
more interesting to the
audience as it displays
the style and theme to
the viewer.
14. Character type How they appear in the story – Finding Nemo - Movie
The Hero Marlin – A clownfish who set’s off out into the ocean, trying to get to his son Nemo who
has been kidnapped by fisherman.
The Villain Darla– Darla is the main antagonist as she tries to kill nemo by shaking the bag that he is
in.
The Helper Dory – Dory meets Marlin while he is trying to find his son. She joins the search and helps
motivate him as they travel across the ocean.

search.
The Dispatcher Marlin – Marlin sets off on his adventure immediately and forces himself to keep going
even when he can see his son’s capturer’s boat disappear into the distance.
Prize Finding and rescuing Nemo – the prize, if he is successful is for Marlin to get his Son back.
The False Hero Bruce – Bruce appears to be helpful, however he turns on Marlin and dory whe he smells
their blood and tries to eat them.
15. Using a quote form the
movie on a poster makes a
viewer more likely to watch
the movie as it can explain
the quote.
The artwork gives some idea as to what the
movie is about whilst keeping most of the
information secret. The artwork is eye catching
to interest someone who sees it but gives very
little about what happens or who is in it. It does
hint that it is about a journey as it shows four
silhouettes in a desolate location.
This poster gives some information
about the movie as it tells us that it is
about four friends. The title on the
poster is also important as it tells a view
that these people have to stick together.
That makes them question what events
unfold that make them need to stick
together. The movie trailer brings a lot of attention
to the action in this movie and draws in
the viewer. Lots of the footage makes the
viewer ask questions. The shot above is
eye catching as it displays a child with a
gun. This makes the viewer want to
watch the movie as to find out why they
have a gun.
16. Character type How they appear in the story – Stand By Me - Movie
The Hero Gordie – The protagonist sets off with his friends to find a dead body by the railroad
tracks. They go in order to get onto the news and become local heroes. but end up leaving
the body and putting in an anonymous tip. Narrates at the beginning and end of the
movie.
The Villain Ace – Ace tries to stop the protagonists from finding the body because he wants the credit
for finding it, however they agree to make an anonymous call when he is held at gunpoint.
The Helper Vern, Teddy and Chris – these three, whilst being main protagonists, do not have the same
amount of background given as is for Gordie, but are seen as his friends.
The Donor Denny – Gordie’s brother who died months before the film is set. He taught Gordie to do
what makes him happy unlike his father who disapproves of his aspirations to be a writer.
Denny gave Gordie his cap, which Gordie cherishes.
The Dispatcher Vern – Vern tells the four friends about the dead body and how he has come to learn of
it’s whereabouts. He convinces them to come and search for it with him and they start the
journey.
Prize Popularity for finding the body – If they are successful in finding the body, they believe
that they will become local heroes and make it onto the news.
17. By displaying the consoles that a game
is available on, you can create a
greater demand for it when it launches
as people will want it on their specific
console/device
The use of the banana next to guns
makes the game poster more eye
catching as they are somewhat
contrasting objects. This makes people
more likely to purchase the game as they
want to know what the game is about.
The lighting puts the attention
onto the banana, highlighting
the fact that it is important to
the game. This makes the game
feel different and stranger,
meaning it will draw more
attention.
The slogan ‘blood bullets and bananas’ is
also interesting. It also is quite unusual
which will put more attention to the game
A game trailer can show the
action packed nature of the game
to the audience. The trailer
usually contains the best aspects
of the game to make the viewer
want to buy it much more.
A game poster with little
information on it makes the
viewer want to know more. The
poster looks quite random as
well, making it more confusing.
This could make a viewer
search for the game online and
find out more.
18. Character type How they appear in the story – My Friend Pedro - Game
The Hero The Protagonist/Pedro – A masked protagonist who has his identity hidden for most of the
game. He is essentially a hitman, murdering criminals because a floating banana in his mind
called Pedro tells him to.
The Villain There are multiple criminals, who are actually revealed to be the protagonist’s family, but are
all involved in the criminal underworld.
The Helper Pedro – Whilst just being a figment of the protagonist’s imagination, the floating banana who
is also named Pedro, tells the protagonist to kill the criminals and guides him on his missions.
The Dispatcher Pedro – Pedro tells the protagonist who to kill and sends him on his missions.
The False Hero Pedro – Pedro appears to be a friendly character, but turns on the protagonist and tries to
force him to shoot himself.
19. This game art gives a
lot of information to
the viewer. It shows
the game’s location,
displays what type of
game it is through
the character on the
right and the
helicopter suggests
that there could be a
military element to
the game.
The ‘Tom Clancy’ logo
shows the audience
what type of game this
will be as Tom Clancy
games tend to be fast
paced tactical
shooters. It also would
appeal to Tom Clancy
fans who have enjoyed
other games by the
franchise.
The trailer shows off the features of
the game. The main thing that it
boasts is the free roam element of the
game and the large scale of the map.
This is enticing as it gives a player
more choice and freedom to do what
they want within the game, which has
huge appeal.
A front page advertisement
on a magazine can massively
boost sales as magazines
have a very specific target
market. This means the game
will be more popular as the
advertising is directed
towards those people who
would be more interested in
the game rather than at a
broader spectrum of people
(as is with TV advertising).
20. Character type How they appear in the story – Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands - Game
The Hero Nomad – A US special forces member who is tasked with taking down the leader of the
Santa Blanca Cartel while destroying supplies and killing of his chain of command along
the way.
The Villain El Sueno – The main enemy in the game who runs he Santa Blanca cartel. He is a violent
leader who has power and influence not only over his operation but also the many towns
and villages that they have captured.
The Helper Midas, Holt and Weaver (Ghosts)– The four members of the squad that operates to
destroy the Santa Blanca Cartel. They are all special forces soldiers and support Nomad
through his journey, protecting each other along the way.
The Dispatcher Karen Bowman – The leader of the task force who guides the team on their mission to take
down el Sueno and Santa Blanca. She overlooks the missions and provides useful
information to ensure success in the operation.
Prize To take down the Santa Blanca Cartel – If the Ghosts are successful, they will take down
the Santa Blanca cartel before it’s power becomes uncontrollable.
The False Hero Pac Katari – The leader of the Kataris 26 Rebellion group, he appears to be a good person,
however he betrays the Ghosts and tries to stop their mission before it is completed as his
life is threatened. He turns his rebels to work for the cartel just before it’s demise.
21. This game poster combines multiple
smaller images to give the viewer a
much better understanding of the
game. It uses different elements in
each block to summarise what types
of things a player can do in the
game.
This magazine makes the game more appealing
through the use of it’s subtitles. The use of ‘At Last’
makes the game seem secretive and exclusive as
there is little information about it. This would make
someone want to buy it more as they would want to
feel involved and therefore more invested in the
game.
Using a recognisable logo for you
game makes it seem more like a
brand rather than a game. This
means people will instantly link it
with the game whenever they see
it.
Having content creators make gameplay
videos for your game creates a community
for the game, making people more
invested in it. This acts as free advertising
to a targeted audience of people who are
likely to buy the game.
22. Character type How they appear in the story – GTA V - Game
The Hero Michael De Santa, Franklin Clinton and Trevor Phillips – These three protagonists are all
hardened criminals who start to rob banks in order to make huge amounts of money. They
all have to help each other as they get sucked into the criminal underworld more and
more.
The Villain Devin Weston – Devin starts giving the protagonists work to make money, but holds off on
payment. He then tries to convince Franklin to kill Michael. He tries to manipulate the
group to his will and cons and blackmails them multiple times.
The Helper Lester Crest – Lester sets up most of the heists and work for the group ad helps keep them
out of trouble. He is the mastermind behind all of the schemes and crime that they
commit and uses his knowledge of the different enemies they come across to make sure
that they all stay safe.
The Donor Lester Crest – Lester provides all of the equipment for the jobs that the group do. He
makes sure that nothing can get traced back to them and that they have adequate
equipment and helps them resource.
The Dispatcher Lester Crest – Lester lets the group know when he has work lined up for them and is often
the person to make the full detailed plans to make sure that nothing can go wrong.
Prize To rob banks and get away consequence free – If the group can rob major corporations
money and get away with it they can live their lives out with hundreds of millions of
dollars. However there are multiple problems such as private mercenary groups, federal
agencies and rooked businessmen out to get them.
23. Research Summary
• What have you learned from your research?
• From my research, I have learnt what makes a good poster for a video game. You need to be
subtle with how you want to portray your game but make it so that it stands out. A logo for the
game title is a must as it makes it recognisable to the audience. This is important as it would
mean that more people are likely to think about the game if they see advertising. One other thing
That I need to do, is create a tag line that hints towards what the game is about whilst also being
somewhat vague to entice a reader to want to find out more. Finally, I will need a magazine cover
that makes people want to read about my game and find out why they should get it.
• What aspects of the research will you include within your on work?
• I like the side scrolling action style to My Friend Pedro which I was already thinking about using
for my game. It has definitely persuaded me to use that style as it is a very fun way to play a
game. Another thing that I really like is the use of music in the trailer for Interstellar. I think using
music in my game would be effective as it would make it more exciting and tense when
completing missions. One other thing that I like is the way that the game is displayed on the
Ghost Recon Wildlands poster as it is a great example of how to portray different elements of
your game onto a print as It shows some of the main features in it’s imagery.

26. Style Sheet
Colours will be used to
Signify different factions in
the Game. Green is for the
players cartel, Black is for
the enemy military and
blue is for the rival Cartel.
These are the three
main environments of
the game. I chose the
country of Bolivia as it
has vast differences
between it’s terrains
which would make the
game more enjoyable.
I want to use a pixel style
similar to the game ‘The
Escapists’. It is very simple yet
quite distinct. It uses blocky
shapes to create images but is
smooth and fluid in its
animation/movement.

35. Contingency
What can go wrong? What can you do if it does?
The files become corrupted. Make sure that they are backed up, but if it does
happen, I will have to do all work again.
The computer breaks. I will have find another computer to use. I will also
need to back up all files so they are not stuck on the
broken PC.
The software doesn’t function properly. I will need to find have to re download it or find an
alternative to use.
The foley recordings are muffled or don’t sound right. I will have to re-record all the foley work again.
The files are lost. Make sure they are backed up and safe or I will have
to do all the work again.
36. Risk Assessment
What could be a risk to you, others or the
equipment?
How can you make sure that doesn’t happen? What
will you do if it does?
Having drinks around the computer – This could
damage it if spilt and mean that I wouldn’t be able to
continue the project until replaced.
Not have food or drinks around the computer to avoid
damage. If it does happen I will have to use a family
members computer.
The recording equipment could be dropped and
broken.
Put a case on my phone as it will be used to record the
audio for foley. If it does happen I will have to resort
to my camera to gather audio from.
Being sat at a computer for too long. Take regular breaks to avoid eye strain or neck pain. If
this does happen, I will have to carry on but try and
minimise the amount of time that I am working.
The computer is broken. I will use
39. Using your plans, produce:
• A synopsis for your film
• A video game that would support your film, to include a menu screen,
demo level and cut scene
• Sound track for the video game
• A magazine front cover, promoting the film
• Additional advertising to promote the film
Include synopsis, magazine cover and advertising in this pro forma.
Animation to be embedded in your blog.
41. Research
• I feel that one of the the strengths of my research was that I went into good detail with the
movie/game posters and characters in order to get a better understanding of what I would need
to do for my work. I feel that this helped me as it allowed me to choose what kind of characters I
would need for my game and also gave me a better look at how posters and magazines are
designed for max audience appeal. For my research I should g=have looked at how to create pixel
art as I feel the quality of my drawings did lack. I also could have looked at how to animate better
as well.
42. Planning
• Overall, I think that my planning went very well. I believe that I was able to create clear plans of
what I wanted my game to look like and was able to use my time and resources well enough to do
this. One of the best parts of my planning was that I was able to gather a lot of the resources that
I needed before I made my final product. This vastly helped as it allowed me to not have to waste
time gathering resources for the final animation or advertising products in the end. One weakness
of my planning was that I could have further improved my pixel art drawings ready for the
creation of the animation. I didn’t provide myself with enough movement for the drawings
meaning that the animation looked jerky at points and less natural than I wanted. This could have
been easily fixed by making a list of all the movements that a character would make and creating
the motions for that.
43. Time Management
• My time management for this project was poor. Due to the fact that I was not in a learning
environment, my time management did not work as well as I wanted it to meaning that I was
behind on my work as I was procrastinating. This has affected some of my work as it has been
much more rushed than It could have been if I had completed all of it in the allocated time frame.
If I had more time I would improve the animation by making it longer and adding more details.
44. Technical Qualities
The main technique used for this project was frame animation. This was extremely useful as it allowed
for an easier way of animation than other techniques (such as digital or 3d animation). This was
combined with pixel art to allow for easy animation creation. This significantly reduced the production
time for making the characters, background and items in the game for the final production. My
animation is okay, however I think it lacks the fluidity and motion that I had initially wanted when
designing the game. For my game, I had to rely on royalty free sounds, as I could not find a way to
replicate a gunshot or an explosion.
I would compare my game to The escapists as they both use simple animation and a pixel art style.
While the escapists uses more complex movements and contains more detail, The production
techniques are both very similar.
45. Aesthetic Qualities
I believe that my work has a consistent and pleasing aesthetic style. One of the most
recurring styles is the military style that is featured through the advertising and in the
final product. This is paired with the combat style that is also used throughout the entire
project. Aesthetically, I would compare my game through the use of styles and themes,
to call of duty. They both have similarities in their styles. Whilst the advertising looks
different, they both have similar features, such as weaponry, combat/military style and
desolate settings.
46. Aural Qualities
I like the sound design of my game. I used different sounds such as gunshots, explosions and helicopters to
create a combat, like audio. To improve it I could have added shouting effects to enhance the combat
sounds and also footsteps for if a character is moving. The main thing I could have done to Improve the
final product is added main menu music to make the audio even better.
47. Audience Appeal
I think that have appealed to my audience. In my proposal, I stated that I wanted to target my game at and
audience of males aged 14-30. I think that this game would have done so as it has many features of games
popular with that age group. One of the things that is popular with that target audience is shooter based
combat games. My game has both of those qualities. This means that they would be more likely to buy my
game as it would appeal to them much more. Another thing that would appeal to my audience is the
storyline of the game. The cut scene at the start of my final product displays the start of the story where a
drug lord is beginning the start of the decline of his empire. This would appeal to my target audience as it
would provide an exciting start to the story to entertain them.
48. Overall strengths and weaknesses of the final
package.
The main strengths of the final product are that it includes many of the features of a video game that I had
intended when preparing to create it and deciding the product. I think that the style of the game is appealing
and looks incredibly fun. I also think that the games story, background and setting would be highly entertaining
for a player and would give them a completely new experience for a game.
I think main weakness of the final product is that the demo level was too short and the animation was not
smooth enough and the characters were too rigid. I think that this is not good enough as it means that the
quality of the game looks poorer if the motion is slow and poor.
