My Rule Of Life Plan
The Introduction: Why
In the beginning of chapter ten, the author compares our rule of life similar to a plant. I believe that
every person is meant to evolve and grow throughout the course of their lifetime. If everyone has a
set of principles that he or she live by that will keep them in check to make sure they are on the right
path. I compare my rule of life to a puzzle that comes together. Moreover, or a person can describe it
as a daily check list that keeps them in check. Here is my Rule of life.
The First Thing to my Rule of Life Plan
The first thing to my rule of life plan is to read the scriptures when I wake up in the morning. I think
that reading the scriptures will allow my mind to be free because I am reading something that
creates a positive message in my mind. Often time with the world being so negative by looking at
the news, or social media. Negativity can make a person 's mind go crazy or get scared of enjoying
life. I know for me when I look at the news it creates the image in my mind where I feel like I
should be in a bubble to feel protected. Nevertheless, reading scriptures I am creating a positive
image in my mind which allows me to have good thoughts throughout the course of my day.
The Second Thing to my Rule of Life Plan The second thing to my rule of life plans is the core of
my day is to sit down and be grateful for the things I have in my current life. I feel like getting more
things in life a person has to appreciate what one has

What If We Were Photographed?
What If We Were Photographed? The soft and gentle company of an individual 's arms does more
than words could ever do. Knowing that we have someone to comfort us in a time of need is an
assurance that calms and supports our lives. The first time we experience this feeling, even though
we don't realize it, is when our mothers hold us close to their hearts at birth. Not only did my mom
clench me near to her heart when I was born, but she continues to hold me there tightly every day.
When I think of my mom, I think of all the memories that we have ever been through together.
Though there are many memories we share, there is one that stands out among the others. The
month of June 2015 was an emotional time for my mom. When I walked in the front door, I
remember hearing the soft tone of her voice that was trying to conceal her misery saying "It's
Final.... It's all over now." About eight years prior to hearing those words from my mom, she got
married to our stepfather. I had never seen her so elated since her divorce with my dad, and I had
never been more excited to see her with this much joy. We both shared pain through the divorce, yet
she always said, "Everything will get better." and it did. From that day on we shared many great
memories together that are tacked up on a wall and caged behind a plate of glass, our pictures. One
of these frames contained an experience we had when we went on a mission trip together to Haiti.
My dearest and most adored part of the trip was when

Essay about Their Eyes Were Watching God
In Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, the relationship between Janie and
Nanny is one of great dispute over if it is healthy or not. The idea that the most influential person in
Janie's life is also the one who triggered her struggles when she was becoming a woman is sadly
ironic. Nanny's true influence on Janie is brought to light through symbolic, and decaying diction,
Biblical, and Greek Mythological allusions, and natural metaphors, by describing Janie's journey to
womanhood, through finding her own opinion, acquiring a stable life from Nanny, her maturation,
and what she gained when becoming a woman.
Through the use of symbolic diction, decaying diction, and metaphors, Hurston illustrates Janie's
inner struggle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A new side of Nanny is implied through decaying diction when Nanny enters Janie's mind on her
knees because moving on the knees both brings pain for the person being walked on, and is a
submissive way to be walked towards. This shows that Nanny both wants to force Janie to take on
her opinions and ask for forgiveness. What surfaces in this passage through positive unlikely
characterization, and biblical allusions, is the plight of Nanny in that she knows she is going to die
soon, and wants to make sure that Janie's life is stable before it happens. Through positive unlikely
characterization Nanny attempts to explain the crossroads that she was at whilst raising Janie,
"Lawd, you know mah heart. Ah done de best Ah could do" (24). Even though Janie and Nanny had
just had a fight, Janie does not understand Nanny's viewpoints. However, all that matters to Nanny
is that the "Lawd" (24) knows her position. The fact that Nanny is not Janie's biological mother
creates tension between the two of them because the values and way Nanny would raise a child are
out of date to Janie. When Nanny says, "De rest is left to you" (24) she is referring to the Christian
God. This biblical allusion implies that Nanny believes that she has completed her mission of
raising Janie, and the rest of Janie's life lies in God's hands. She realizes that if she were to continue
raising Janie it would deteriorate their relationship further. Therefore, Nanny is explaining and
justifying

Suicide And Suicide : The Influence Of Suicide
"You were an angel in the shape of my mum / When I fell down you'd be there holding me up /
Spread your wings as you go / And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah / You're home"
(Sheeran, 2017).
Imagine being told one of the most influential people in your life had passed away. Imagine thinking
of everything you could have changed, if you had only had the chance. Imagine living with that
constant regret of what you could have done. Imagine, pushing everyone away, because you're too
young to understand how to grieve and lose someone you love. Imagine having to live your life
without someone there to guide you, to care for you, and to encourage you. Imagine knowing that
the one person you adored the most, didn't love themselves enough to stay in this world, even for
you. Imagine having to attend your own mother's funeral, before you finished your sophomore year
of high school. That's how I felt when I lost my mother to suicide, and I was too young to fully
understand what happened. There is such a stigma around suicide, making people go out of there
way to avoid the topic. I'm going to change that, because this is my experience, and how it changed
me for the better, despite the loss I had to conquer first.
Suicide is something I never thought I would have to deal with, but that's what everyone assumes,
until it's too late. Knowing my mother as the influential and beautiful women she was, I would
never have assumed she was struggling with a demon worse than I could

Three People Who Have Influenced Me the Most In Life
Do you have anyone you cherish and love? Can you think of someone who you could not live
without? Have you stopped and thought about who inspires you? Do you know someone who has
influenced you? For me, there have been three influential people in my life who I love and cherish. I
know I could not live without them because they inspire me so much. Those people are my mom,
papa, and my best friend Jessie. They have all influenced me in many ways.
First, I know that my mother has influenced me in a great number of ways. My mother has taught
me about comfort. She's always there for me and makes me feel comfortable even in odd situations.

Factors That Affect A Child 's Development
Development occurs within a child through psychological, biological, and emotional changes. It is a
continuous process as each person progresses into their unique identity. Before a person can mature
and assume their identity, they have to successfully complete the eight stages. According to Erikson,
each stage is characterized by a "crisis" where psychological challenges would be resolved as the
person move from each stage. Unfortunately, many factors can hinder a child's development. This
brings about the argument of all time, nature verses nurture. Nature where genetics is an important
factor in influencing a child at an early age, and nurture where the environment plays a significant
role in influencing a child. An innocent baby is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The success of each depends on the success of the other. The challenge commence with trust. Trust
is an important quality that gives people confidence, certainty, and conviction. As an infant we learn
this tool through our parents. Infants depend on safe, nurturing environment – food, safe shelter,
comfort, love, and care. These needs when met allows a child to develop trust towards others. As we
age and progress through each stage, people acquire different, but essential tools. These crisis can
either transform them to the best that they can be, or the worst that they can be. With each stage a
child acquires the tools of independence, self–awareness, skills, talents, and competence. At this
point, they must decide "who they are, what they are going to do, and what they hope to make of
their lives" (Travis & Wade, 2012, p. 98). Once the decision is made, they begin to experience
intimacy with others and learn the value of generativity. Upon discovering their self through various
influences and experiences, they have order and spiritual sense where they have gained the tool of
ego integrity. Furthermore, these stages can negatively, or positively impact a child as they age
depending on the type of parents this individual has. There are four types of parents– the
authoritarian, the permissive, the authoritative, and the uninvolved. Controlling, strict, punitive, and
cold are all the words utilized to describe an authoritarian parent. It is their way, or the

At first with the Taliban Killings did not happen as much, but as time went by they increased
continuously. Killings began with sieges, which lasted for a few days. Within those few day
thousand of people would die. There was also an increase in suicide bombers. The Taliban would
also bomb power stations and that would for there to be no electricity to cook with, forcing the
people to starve and go hungry. At some points people would just kill to kill in the taliban, for
instance, a man was not wearing a sock above his ankle and refused to do anything about it and they

Leadership : The Power Of Influence
Leadership: The Power of Influence The power of influence is perhaps one of the greatest
intangibles of communication. Influence is a force with incalculable degrees of power. The verb
"influence", by itself, describes an action that can only be seen as a result from an entirely separate
action. In very few words, the connection that influence creates can be closely understood when
associated with particular nouns. Hitler, Josef Mengele, and Osama bin Laden are just a few that can
be easily identified and carry the weight of what influential leaders are capable of. Mother Teresa,
Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr., are also among the most influential people to have
lived. One can plainly juxtapose the differences between these two classes of leaders, which often
shadows the similarities shared: the power of influence. Leaders and Teachers Are teachers leaders?
Or are leaders teachers? According to one source, they are one in the same (Eisenbach, 2014).
Eisenbach believes that educators fully realize the power of influence they wield over their
classroom students (p.71). A teacher is naturally seen as the unchallengeable leader within the
classroom. From the very beginning of our schooling years, we are accustomed to heeding to the
thoughts and ideas of our educators that inevitably shape and grow our minds over time. They
deliver wisdom and knowledge through the art of communication. The answer is simple: teachers
are leaders, and leaders are teachers. I believe

from her saddle making their way onto the dirt ground. There was only one jump left. The clock
continued to run as Avery completed the obstacle in 3 minutes and 56 seconds. It was the fastest

Lorde's 'Royals': Song Analysis
Being famous with a lavish lifestyle is the dream of so many people. A top hit song was written by a
young artist, Ella Marija Lani Yelich–O'Connor (Lorde), she won the Grammy award for Song of
the Year in 2013 with "Royals". There has been a multitude of covers and versions of this song since
the release. The range of covers of "Royals" varies across the diverse genres in the music industry.
Lorde's style is classified as an electropop genre, and three notable covers are made by a metal genre
OTEP, an A cappella group Pentatonix, and lastly Mayer Hawthorne a soul music singer. All four
songs impressively display the luxurious life of fame and that money is not what life is about.
Lorde's original song "Royals" commences with a slow beat tempo with stomping and snapping
incorporated. Then enters Lorde's suave voice describing how she has never seen a diamond ...

This version creates a much slower tempo that is jazzy, rhythmic, and funky. The instruments
arecompletely diverse with a keyboard, bass that sounds synthesized, drums, and an electric guitar.
This cover features a male singer as well that completely gives "Royals" a different tenor. He takes
different parts of the song and hits varying notes than the original song. One of the major notable
modifications is that Hawthorne alters the layout of the lyrics. In the verse "gold teeth, grey goose,
trippin' in the bathroom" (Lorde–Royals) Hawthorne entirely modifies the layout. Hawthorne's
interpretation includes "gold teeth, grey goose, we don't care, we're driving Cadillac's in our
dreams" (Hawthorne) instead of Lorde's original longer pre–chorus version. Hawthorne also
duplicates the shortening of the pre–chorus with "Cristal, Maybach, we don't care we aren't caught
up in your love affair" (Hawthorne). Shortening the pre–chorus gives this cover song a diverse style
overall while still keeping the importance of the

Tough Love
If you Google the words tough love, it tells you that it means "promotion of a person's welfare,
especially that of an addict, child or criminal, by enforcing certain constraints on them, or requiring
them to take responsibility for their actions." If you look at it closer, you see that if is telling
someone to take responsibility for something they do not want to change. There are many cases that
tough love causes deaths. Instead of helping, it is harming a person. Since tough love often comes
from a position of superiority and detachment, it oftentimes is a form of abuse, and is generally
guided by selfish motivations.
People can send their child to a Juvenile Justice when they have no clue what to do with their child.
That is not the correct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tough love leads to people believing their fears and discomforts are not valid. It makes a person feel
lonely and uncared for. Red Letter Christians wrote an article saying, "Messages that are
consistently negative and focus on an individual's faults and flaws are only likely to increase
feelings of stress, fear, and anxiety..." If someone were to continuously point out a flaw, that is only
going to make the person feel worse about it, especially if they are trying to change it. Robin Tran
said, "Tough love has caused irreparable damage to [her] psyche to the point where [she] no longer
believes [her] own feelings." Tough love makes a person feel even lonelier than they felt before,
more ashamed, and like a burden on everyone in their life. When others who haven't experienced
what someone else is going through tries to intervene by saying they have all the answers, it often
comes across more arrogant than compassionate. The Recovery Help Desk writes, "All too often,
tough love behaviors are more destructive than the behaviors of feelings of anger, frustration,
confusion, and desperation." It is selfish of the person to want someone to feel better right when
they want them to. They could take a big step forward, but in the end, it doesn't mean they are
completely healed. McLellan said, "Parents find it difficult to believe, but in every high school
survey, kids rate their parents as the most influential people in their lives. Parents have powers they
don't exercise. They give the kid access to a car, a credit card, or pay their tuition. Those are all
factors with proper instructions that can help them gain control of their kids behavior when the kid
can't..." (qtd in Bosler). Many people believe that tough love works like magic. They believe that
emotionally terrorizing someone can produce change that looks like it's really working. The harsh
words can often be misleading. The parents think

The Color Of Water Character Analysis
Malala Yousafzai once stated, "Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can
change the world". In one's life, there is always someone or something steering them in a direction.
It can be as complex as an intervention held for someone, or as simple as a small talk with someone
that is idolized. In the short memoir, The Color of Water, by James McBride, James takes the simple
route. He is portrayed as a young careless boy throughout the story and starts going into a
downward spiral after death approaches those around him. Due to all of his bad habits such as drugs
and cutting class, he is sent to other family members and connects with a strange man on the street
corner. This man turns out to play a huge role in shaping what james will become. Throughout
James McBride's life, the most influential person on his identity was Chicken Man.
There are many ways that Chicken Man influenced James's identity. One of those ways was how
Chicken Man prevented James from going down a road that involved drugs, jail, and a waste of his
life. When James gets harrassed by a man at his job, he punches him in the face. Because of this
incident, James got fired. He then ran his idea to shoot the guy that got him fired by Chicken Man,
he is confused at the answer he got. Chicken man asked if that is ," how you want to end up, Goin'
to jail for him?" (McBride 149) illustrating how Chicken Man is trying to influence James not go
down the path that will ruin his life. James

The Power of Personality in Toni Cade Bambara's The Lesson
Developing character is something that comes with time. I believe that there are three major things
that effect how people develop their character–where they are from, which includes their financial
status; how they are raised; and the character of the people that have had the most influence on their
lives. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara's "The Lesson," is very much influenced by all of these factors.
Sylvia's living in the slums and being poor makes her defensive and judgmental. Her parents not
being around much leaves her without the attention and discipline that children need to develop to
their fullest. Lastly, her friends and Miss Moore also have a great influence on how ... Show more

Because Sylvia does not recognize her own faults, it would be expected that someone else might see
them and correct her appropriately. The problem though, is that Sylvia's parents are always "in a la–
de–da apartment up the block having a good ole time," probably partying. Sylvia's parents,
mentioned infrequently throughout the story, do not seem to have too much involvement with their
daughter. This is represented in Sylvia's behavior, for example, when she wants to steal Ms. Moore's
cab money and run to the bar–b–que. Although most of Sylvia's actions are conceivably wrong, it
would be inappropriate to blame her solely for her mistakes. It is impossible for any child to
understand what is right or wrong if it was never defined for him/her. Sylvia was probably not
disciplines growing up and so her judgment of what is right or wrong is based on her own opinions
and her observations of what the other children in her neighborhood are doing.
The children in the neighborhood are probably the most influential people in Sylvia's life, since she
is around them most frequently, and they are her peers. They too seem to come from the same kind
of background as Sylvia–poor, defensive,

My Life Of My Brother
If someone asked me what I thought of my brother, the first thing to come out of my mouth would
be; my brother is the most annoying, naïve, misguided person I know. I realize that might sound
mean, but it's completely true. What I don't tell people often however, is my little brother, Tre'von, is
one of the biggest contributions to help me become the person I want to be in life. Unfortunately,
being aware of my life goals and striving to achieve them, doesn't help me and brother's relationship

our grandma, as where my brother was raised by our mother. How we were raised made us
completely different people. It's hard for me to explain how he was raised, but altogether he was
brought up to believe responsibilities are overrated. It wasn't my mother's intention for him to be the
person he is, but stuff happens. Growing up around my brother I've witnessed him disrespect our
family, fail school, and avoid learning basic and complex life skills. Of course, everyone is
presented with several life issues, but in many people's opinions, Tre's life is a lot harder than it
should be for an average teenager. Being a small family, my brother doesn't have a lot of support or

Blink By Malcolm Gladwell Blink
Overview
In Malcolm Gladwell's novel Blink, the author conveys a message on the significance and power of
our snap judgements and split second decisions. He explains the influential strength of our
subconscious that controls our intuitions and perceptions that translates into our daily actions. These
daily actions occur via thorough thinking or through a simple technique Gladwell calls, "thin–
slicing". Specifically, this technique showcases how an individual can extract in depth details about
a situation, only given a snapshot of a given scenario. Gladwell explains, "If he [researcher John
Gottman] analyzes an hour of a husband and wife talking, he can predict with 95 percent accuracy
whether that couple will still be married fifteen years later. If we watched a couple for fifteen
minutes, his success rate is around 90 percent." From this, Gladwell expands to educate his readers
on how to exploit these instincts in order to live our lives more efficiently. Or, in his words, to
"think without thinking". However, Gladwell does outline the dangers of thin slicing when done
inaccurately exemplified by fatal police shootings conducted by officers who've misjudged a
situation such as Amanda Diallo's case. Additionally, thin–slicing can backlash when individuals are
racist or prejudice. Overall, Gladwell provides his readers with a wholesome perspective on thin–
slicing before stating his opinion on the benefits and successes of utilizing our natural human
intuitions to live more

Leadership Qualities in John Wooden Essay example
Leadership is one of the biggest and most important characteristics a person can have in life. Some
people believe that leadership is what deciphers a child from being an adult. I believe some people
are born with leadership and some people observe and breath in the leadership qualities of mentors
and become better people. Also, to be successful you either have to be very lucky or have a pure
internal beliefs about yourself and only positive outlooks in life. John Wooden is who i have
selected to try and form my leadership characteristics around. He is a well spoken and the most
"sought out to be" coach in all of basketball. He had many victories on the court but he also formed

I am sometimes that asshole but i try most of the time. Doc lead the golf team to two VCC

will not make a person successful but it will not hurt a persons chances.
What is leadership? Are individuals destined to lead or are they mentored into it? Leadership can be
taught and seen by hard work, mentoring and a specific mind set, but the great leaders are born with
the leadership quality. Leadership is taken from hard work. If one individual sees another individual
working hard than the other will try and help the fact and get the job done with more efficiency by
he also trying his hardest. It has a conformity affect. If most people in the group work hard and keep
their eyes on the prize than good things will happen. Leadership could have been taught by the
worker that began the domino affect with the conformity of the group. He could have a very humble
father that taught him that hard work pays bills. Therefore if he works to his abilities than the
worker will receive riches. If a worker only half–asses it than he will not move up the chain of life.
Some people have mind sets that make them successful. Herbert hoover, the 31st President of the

Sugar Cane Alley Essay
Sugar Cane Alley
Jose is a type of person that anyone could look up to. He's strong, smart and doesn't let people walk
all over him. Throughout the movie he becomes a stronger and stronger person. He goes through
two deaths of two people who are very influential in his life, let alone the death of his mother. His
grandmother, Ma Tine, raises him. She is a very influential person as well, because she has only the
best in mind for her grandson. Although Sugar Cane Alley takes place in Martinique, well after
slavery was abolished, the way Jose and Ma Tine live reflect many of the same ideologies of slavery
from many years before. In Martinique almost everyone works, they cut sugar cane which is barely
enough money to live off of. The only ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mr. M would tell Jose stories at night about Africa and how he wants to go there someday. Jose
seems very intrigued by these stories and goes back to Mr. M for more. Jose learns to be creative
while listening to his stories; the stories allow him to imagine what Africa would be like and why
Mr. M wants to go there so badly. To me, Mr. Mdeouze plays a bigger role in Jose's education than
Ma Tine does. For one of Jose's homework assignments, he has to write a paper. For his paper he
wrote a story in his own words and submits it to his teacher. The paper is so powerful and moving
that the teacher accuses Jose of plagiarism. Jose is so upset at this and in turn he flees the school.
Later on he goes back home and his teacher is there with his grandmother. The teacher tells Jose that
he apologizes for the accusations and also says, "some day you are going to be a very good writer."
Mr. Mdeouze influenced Jose to write that incredible story. He told him enough stories to open up
his imagination and produce a beautiful paper. Mr. M taught Jose the power of language. For extra
credit for this class, I listened to an interesting lecture about African Storytelling. This is what Mr.
M reminded me of. Traditional storytelling is usually told by adults and spoken to children about
life, rewards, and consequences. The fables are usually metaphorical stories that have to do with
lessons children will learn in their daily lives. While Jose listened to Mr. M's

The Day That Changed My Life
It was the month of November and the year was 2008. I did not plan on going to the hospital on this
day but my mother received a phone call. That one call was my reason for being waken up at 4 a.m.
listening to my mom as she reused me to get dressed. One call changed my life forever. A person
from the hospital called and said that my grandmother was not breathing normally. After we got to
the hospital we find out that the cancer she was diagnosed with has affected her breathing, which
caused tubes to be placed in her to make sure she stays alive. I remember hearing all these doctors
and nurses ask me and my family to make decisions on the plans for my grandmother. I was only

As inspiring as my grandmother was, in return, I hope I am making her just as proud.
Once my grandmother passed I took her obituary and put it under my pillow so every night I felt as
if I was sleeping right next to her. I found doing that was comforting to me because it would help
me cope with her death. I then began to use other pictures I had of us when I was younger as a way
to help ease the pain I felt along with reminding me of the memories we shared which made me feel
as if she was still here.
My grandmother's death was the first death I have experienced in my family. I have learned to deal
with it but I still have not overcome it. It taught me how to be strong and what memories really can
do. I am thankful that she got to spend fifteen years of my life with me so I can share everything I
learned from her to any person I meet. If it was not for her unconditional love andsupport I would
not be able to call myself a freshman at the University of Michigan all my years living, she has been

Sparks Of Genius Book Report
I look back at the time before I walked into my HUMI 1 class and realized that I did not view the
world the same as I do right now. I was not as caring towards the environment or aware of what
problems that our world faces. It was only from social media and popular news programs that I
knew the world was important and was in grave danger. I did not know what the cause was or how I
could help contribute to the improvement of the world, resulting in me not doing anything to help
with the issue. I saw so many others talk about the problems, but never did anything to help with the
predicament. I was in the same boat as those who talked about the issues, but did not know what to

thinking tools that come together to help us be more imaginative. It takes not just one, but multiple
ideas to be effective when creating a more beautiful world. As I read the novel, I was deeply
intrigued with the chapter, "Imaging." From what I was able to understand, imaging is an important
tool when visualizing what you desire. The most influential people in the world use imaging as well
to help with their ideas and accomplishments. From what I am able to comprehend, imaging is
critical to all fields of study and useful when it comes to creativity. Although the novel, Sparks Of

Just Right For Me : My Role Model In My Life
Just Right For Me
The happiest, most exciting memories I hold on to are often accompanied by a country song,
whether it be playing in the background, or roaring over the speakers. Songs are written for people
to feel and relate to the emotion the songwriter and singer put behind the lyrics. Growing up having
my dad be my role model and most influential person in my life, I often find myself in things that
remind me of him or our memories, along with songs that describe a girl who is fearless and lives on
the edge at times, as if there are no consequences. For me, this is especially true listening to the song
"She Ain't Right," by Lee Brice, which highlights my personality and strength I got from my dad,
my sense of fearlessness, and my constant seeking out of adventure.
Growing up, I was, and am, my dad's little sidekick. We are best friends. Naturally, being such a
daddy's girl, I picked up his habits, which include being expressive via curse words and not filtering

Question: Where Do Our Attitudes About Good And Bad Language
Question: Where do our attitudes about good and bad language come from and how do they
correlate with language discrimination?
Ever since the beginning of time, communication has never been considered foreign to any living
creature. As a child, you automatically pick up from your surroundings even if you are unaware of it
at that very moment in time, same type of concept with language. When you hear your family
members, your peers, and other types of "influential" individuals communicate, your brain acts as a
sponge in a sense and absorbs what information you hear from them. Now, not all things that other
people say are positive especially when it comes to language. For instance, you are taught from a
very young age that they way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What this means is that people make judgements off the way others communicate, which is
something you already may have known because you might do the same exact thing on a daily
basis. Language is something that is sacred in a sense because it is something that makes you the
person you are today or is just the reason why people look at you the way they do, it is what makes
you special. As I had stated previously, the attitudes about good and bad language come from
"influential" individuals. Now, the reason I use the word influential is because it is almost
impossible to pinpoint what people everyone sees or hears from and try to emulate what those
influential people preach into their daily lives. Influential people may be parents, friends, celebrities,
journalists, or government officials, basically those people who you feel have the biggest input/
impact on the way you think about things. One of the most powerful figures that we try to emulate
from are celebrities, without a doubt. When you see a celebrity, someone who has a lot of money,
you will automatically assume that whatever they say, it must mean something. In a sense, we
idolize celebrities because they are powerful, they can go anywhere their hearts desire just because
they want to. We all wish to be like some

Life Is An End Activity Based Solely Upon Us Through...
Joel Osteen and Aristotle explain happiness as an end activity based solely upon us through choice,
virtue, and character. They do so in exploring the idea of happiness being a choice, whether it is a
virtuous activity, and the content of character and if it affects the end result of happiness. Osteen and
Aristotle explore ideas that concur and oppose each other, reaching some of the same points; despite
living over two thousand years apart. Osteen a very well known pastor, gives a sermon on modern
views of how to be happy. He makes it very clear throughout his sermon that happiness is a choice.
For example he clearly says, "Happiness is a choice". He also states, "You only allow things you
want to frustrate you" here he is implying that you can allow things to frustrate you. If you can
allow something to frustrate you, or be unbothered by it then it becomes a choice. Osteen also
touches on the subject of your character affecting your happiness. In the video Osteen states, "Life is
to short to live it negative and grumpy" so Osteen is saying that if you live your life negative and
grumpy, and that is the outlook you have on life and it's your character to be that way you wont be
happy. The last big point Osteen makes is to stay focused on what you want and be happy and find
the good in what you have. One of the quotes he uses for this is, "If you don 't learn to be happy
where you are, you'll never get to where you want to be". Osteen is saying to be happy where you

Essay on Graduation Speech
We live in a time in which everything is categorized by lists, whether it's a dreaded school rubric or
a David Letterman Top Ten List. As the millennium turns, we are deluged with lists: the best books
of the millennium, the greatest songs of the millennium, the most influential people of the
millennium. Personally, I may be sick of all these lists, but no graduating class of 2006 could let this
occasion slip by without one more list: The Top Ten Things I Learned in High School. So listen
along and see if your experience parallels mine. Here goes:
Lesson No. 10: It is 10 percent of the people who do 90 percent of the work. I've heard that,
unfortunately, this is true in the real world, too. Whether we were organizing food drives or ... Show

Talent, drive and strength sometimes are well–hidden in that little short girl with the curly hair who
just needs a chance.
Lesson No. 7: Chemistry closets are not a good place to hide away from the world. They may be an
easy solace in times of despair, but eventually you have to put down the chemicals and come out
again.
Lesson No. 6: Now that my teachers no longer have the power to adjust my grades, I'd still like to
point out that most teachers really do care. That's why they're here, not for the long summer
vacations or the short paychecks. Whether you knew it or not, they had a great influence on each
and every one of us. They deserve a thank–you, even the ones who actually made you work.
Lesson No. 5: After careful analysis of speech patterns, I have discovered that it is impossible ... to
... speak ... more ... slowly ... than ... our ... principal. At least no one ever has any difficulty
understanding him.
Lesson No. 4: It is not necessary to wake up at 3:30 a.m. to get a senior parking–lot permit. But if
you do, you'll be the first one in line.
Lesson No. 3: Grades aren't everything. It took me a long time to learn this one. I thought
achievement was measured by the first four letters of the alphabet – really, by the first letter alone.
But what I've discovered is that there are many better ways to measure our worth as students and as
people: how much we've really learned and retained, and what we do with that

A Lesson Before Lying In The Movie : A Lesson Before Dying
"Hog", such a simple three letter word, but so hurtful that it could have a major impact on someone's
life. Not many people think about the impacts they can have on people by saying certain things. The
movie "A Lesson Before Dying" explores the meanings simple words can have on people's lives.
Taking place in a small town called Bayonne in Louisiana, a black man named "Jefferson" is falsely
accused of murders he did not commit. While in court, Jefferson's lawyer claims that all Jefferson is,
is a poor hog that is not capable of committing such a crime. Jefferson takes his lawyer's claim to
heart and starts to even believe that he, himself is really a hog. But throughout the book, certain
women help Jefferson dig deep to believe in his self worth. In the movie "A Lesson Before Dying",
a select few women have profound influences on the men in the movie.
Halfway through the movie Grant and Tante Lou were in Tante Lou's house along with Miss Emma
and the Reverend. All four of the characters were having a conversation about Jefferson on how he
needs faith. Not all of the characters agreed that Jefferson needed to pray and have faith in God to
make it to heaven. During the conversation, Grant was arguing Tante Lou about religion and Grant
swore about black people to her. Tante Lou slapped Grant in the face and said, "Nobody says nigger
in my house". Later in the scene Grant and Tante Lou made up and apologized to each other, Tante
Lou made it clear to Grant that he did not need to talk poorly about Jefferson or black people like
that and that he needed to show some respect. This shows that Tante Lou influenced Grant and
taught him not to treat people of his own race badly. If Tante Lou had not taught Grant that, he may
of kept downgrading his friends, family, and religion.
A quarter of the way into the movie, Vivian and Grant were alone together in Grant's house laying
on the bed and talking to each other. They were chatting about their pasts and maybe what their
futures would look like. Their conversation started of good and lovingly until it turned into an
argument and later a fight. Grant was talking to Vivian on how he did not believe it was his job or
obligation to have to visit Jefferson and

Song Analysis Of 'RedRed Wine'
The theme of this song relates to Danny's patriotic feeling before the story of the book. Danny and
his friends were feeling particularly patriotic one day. The most relatable part of the song for Danny
would be the verse, "I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free". Danny is a
paisano, a mix of native american and mexican, but he still considers himself as an American at the
time when non white people were discriminated against. Danny and his friends Pilon and Joe are
still willing to fight for their country because they are proud of their country's history. The song is
all about serving your country and feeling pride for all that the United States. On that day that was
the exact feeling that compelled him to enlist in the army.
"Red Red Wine" by UB40 perfectly describes how Danny handles stress. When ever he experiences
a conflict his first resolution is to go buy a gallon of wine and drink it. Danny feelings are best
expressed through the line, "Red, red wine it's up to you. All I can do, I've done" because he lets the
wine take control of him. Danny becomes a different person when he drinks too much, which he
tends to do. Drinking is what got him thrown in jail and everytime he drinks with his friends they
end up fighting about something. Instead of solving his own problem Danny gives the wine all of
the control in his life and causes him to lose himself.
Danny and his friends Pilon, Pablo, Joe, and Jesus have a very good relationship. In "You've

Most Influential Person Analysis
The single most influential person in my life is someone I have only seen twice in the past year: my
father. He has given me more than any other single person on this planet. He gave me the desire to
do better. He gave me the focus and the hunger to be intellectually curious. He gave me these things
because he never had them.
My father has been in and out of prison since April 29th, 2011. He gave me an understanding of
adult life at far too young an age, and he left me with trust issues. He gave me the only prominent
memory from my elementary school years: waking up at 2:00 AM to go find him when he went

the operation. My mom called home on our way back the next day, and the cop answered the phone.
They had searched the place again. There was a ninth charge now. He gave me the new worst day of
my life.
He gave me independence that day. He gave me the ability to make my way in the world as an adult.
He gave me an opportunity to teach others about my story. He gave me the desire to speak up.
He gave me the need to escape from my daily life, and acting become that escape. He gave me one

He gave me a distrust of those in my family who saw him as the enemy. He gave me a distrust of

Student Council Failure
The greatest obstacle I have had to overcome was facing failure. I have been in student council and
leadership roles during every school year since 4th grade. So during freshman year of high school I
was a student council officer and a member of the leadership class. It was obvious that I would
continue in doing what I was good at by applying for the student council officer class as a
sophomore. I went through the difficult process of campaigning and following all of the very strict
campaign rules that had been set on those applying, even though others did not. I'm a very
competitive person so I was determined to secure one of the eight spots in the class. Since I won
every other thing I had ever tried out for I had assumed this would be the same. After all I had all of
the classifications; good grades, never been suspended or had detention,a history with student
council, and I even gave people candy with a campaign slogan on them to get people to vote for me.

the sophomores is way too stressful for me. I'm now in a lower level leadership and I'm rather

failure would lead me to something greater. I've struggled with self doubt and regret but if I just

American Dream Essay
Media's American Dream Each American can have their own American Dream. The American
dream is the idea of a perfect life and that government should protect each person opportunities to
pursue their own ideas of happiness. The American Dream can be and has been influenced by
media: it has been changed because of influential figures, social media, television–like news and
reality tv shows and the internet. An influential person could be anyone in the world. Some people
could look up to and wish to be Isaac Newton or George Washington. Others dream upon Kendall
Jenner or Luke Bryan. Each person has some type influence to the world. Whether it's discovering
gravity like Newton, or create and sing country music like Bryan. The success of someone can spark
the interest in someone else. When Newton discovered gravity, others dreamed to be like him.
Dreaming to discover something as incredible as he did. Or to invent something and be better than
him. Bryan inspires many people to do what they love daily. Creating a passion for someone else
and setting a goal for them. Influential figures to the world set the bar for what is expected in
someone's life. Seeing others traveling, spending money, and owning expensive objects are some
examples of what people believe they need. Kim Kardashian, for example, has all eyes on her. As of
November 9, 2017, she has 56.8 million followers on Twitter and 104 million on Instagram. From

My Greatest Experience
The greatest experience you can have, can also be the most simple lesson you can learn. For me, the
greatest experience I ever had will always be the lesson I learned on my trip to Israel, in 2015. Israel
was a lesson learned for the fortunate. Going to Israel was an eye opener for my life. It gave me a
new perspective and outlook. To never take things for granted, even if what you have may seem
little.
Israel was my very first trip out of the country, it was also the very first time traveling without my
family. At first I was intimidated, I was unsure of what was ahead of me. I had never been on a
plane, let alone traveling to a place that at the time was unsafe towards the West bank. However, as I
got to Israel, I learned to love the cultural differences, the history behind it all, and the people there.
I've always had a travelers heart, a desire for adventure. Growing up my father would always take
me out hiking. I learned at a very young age to have the love for nature. To look through a new lens,
and focus on the important aspects of life. To find yourself in the midst of this world by living life
without borders. To travel the world, and touch other nations who need a helping hand. To learn
about different cultures and their languages. Connect with people even through the diversity. Learn
to love the life you were given, because others won't have the opportunities you have.

stands as an aspiring role model for those who don't have the courage to speak for what they believe

trait about Malala, her belief. She speaks out about her belief even though she has suffered from

ways. Some people may want to try and make a change locally or globally. And some people might

improve it seemed like a very impossible feat but now she's making it happen. People could wish
for it to happen, people could say they could make it happen but only 1 woman so far has crossed all
the boundaries and is making it happen. This one belief coming true could lead to many others in

Rhetorical Essay Conclusion
One of the main things Thoreau tries to highlight throughout the Conclusion is the importance of
being one's self. He states, "If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because
he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far
away." I believe that Thoreau is making a statement and sharing his belief that it is not one's job to
follow in the footsteps of others. Thoreau wants each person to find what they are passionate about,
and carve their own path, no matter how different or unique that passion may be in the eyes of
society. As I continue to live my life, I find that this specific excerpt connects with a majority of us.
Whether we admit it or not, I believe that each person ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I use to constantly update my personality on what was popular at the time, never caring if my
actions truly were coming from me. I used them as a mask, throwing on whichever one I believed
people would accept at the time. I was scared of what others may think if they uncovered and found
out about the real me. Eventually I took a leap of faith and shed my final mask, which benefited me
in numerous ways. As I began to express my true self and speak of the various interests I enjoyed
most, I began to accumulate a new group of friends who accepted, and truly cared about the real me.
I found that I could carry out much deeper and more meaningful conversations within my new
friend group, without having to worry about the judgement that would typically come. I also found
that when I spoke on my love for hunting, fishing, automobiles or any of my other hobbies and
passions, I found that numerous people began to open up on their similar interests as well. Because
of this experience, I began to realize that all it takes is one person to break down a social barrier, and
that deep down everyone has interests and passions that they are holding back, and may just be
waiting on someone else to open up

The Nobel Peace prize. Gratefully, Malala Yousafzai was nominated and won the Nobel peace prize
and became the youngest person ever to win this reward. Malala Yousafzai did not ask for this
reward but was given. Her work has Inspired so many around the world to take action against the
Taliban and would never give up. ¨I am proud, well in fact, I am very proud to be the first Pashtun,
the first Pakistani, and the youngest person to receive this award. Along with that, along with that, I
am pretty certain that I am also the first recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize who still fights with her
younger brothers. I want there to be peace everywhere, but my brothers and I are still working on
that. I am also honoured to receive this award together with Kailash Satyarthi, who has been a
champion for children's rights for a long time. Twice as long, in fact, than I have been alive. I am
proud that we can work together, we can work together and show the world that an Indian and a
Pakistani, they can work together and achieve their goals of children's rights.¨ According to the
quote, She obviously did not ask for this reward she was given and she earned it for her braveness

Martha Graham, Beethoven, And Jackie Robinson
About 108 billion people have been introduced to our beautifully diverse world. Few of these people
have the impact to change how others will see the world. One of the most powerful things in life is
true passion and when one lets their passion shine, it can change the world. I have been influenced
by many people in history, but three people in particular stand out to me, as people who inspired
others from a place of pure passion. Martha Graham, Beethoven, and Jackie Robinson are all figures
in history that have followed their passions and made a lasting impression on everyone who has
come after them. I would love to dance with all of these amazing figures because I believe that
passion is the key to telling a story, and telling a story ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They knew what they wanted in life and they were brave enough to change the industry they were
involved in, whether it was dance, music, or baseball. This piece would be able to display so many
unique aspects of our lives. It would showcase: Love, drive, success, failure, challenge, creativity,
power, and passion. These historical figures were able to open so many doors that have healed
multitudes of people. I would have loved the opportunity to intertwine all of these stories together,
while showing the world who we are. I will continue to push myself as a dancer and follow my
heart, just like they did. They didn't see any limits within chasing their dreams, for this is the reason
they are known to be some of the most influential people to ever walk the world. By combining the
strengths of these great influences, my hope would be to empower others to follow their heart,
because everyone deserves the chance to be a part of the 108 billion people, who truly made a

My Rule of Life Plan: 3 Core Principles

  • 1. My Rule Of Life Plan The Introduction: Why In the beginning of chapter ten, the author compares our rule of life similar to a plant. I believe that every person is meant to evolve and grow throughout the course of their lifetime. If everyone has a set of principles that he or she live by that will keep them in check to make sure they are on the right path. I compare my rule of life to a puzzle that comes together. Moreover, or a person can describe it as a daily check list that keeps them in check. Here is my Rule of life. The First Thing to my Rule of Life Plan The first thing to my rule of life plan is to read the scriptures when I wake up in the morning. I think that reading the scriptures will allow my mind to be free because I am reading something that creates a positive message in my mind. Often time with the world being so negative by looking at the news, or social media. Negativity can make a person 's mind go crazy or get scared of enjoying life. I know for me when I look at the news it creates the image in my mind where I feel like I should be in a bubble to feel protected. Nevertheless, reading scriptures I am creating a positive image in my mind which allows me to have good thoughts throughout the course of my day. The Second Thing to my Rule of Life Plan The second thing to my rule of life plans is the core of my day is to sit down and be grateful for the things I have in my current life. I feel like getting more things in life a person has to appreciate what one has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. What If We Were Photographed? What If We Were Photographed? The soft and gentle company of an individual 's arms does more than words could ever do. Knowing that we have someone to comfort us in a time of need is an assurance that calms and supports our lives. The first time we experience this feeling, even though we don't realize it, is when our mothers hold us close to their hearts at birth. Not only did my mom clench me near to her heart when I was born, but she continues to hold me there tightly every day. When I think of my mom, I think of all the memories that we have ever been through together. Though there are many memories we share, there is one that stands out among the others. The month of June 2015 was an emotional time for my mom. When I walked in the front door, I remember hearing the soft tone of her voice that was trying to conceal her misery saying "It's Final.... It's all over now." About eight years prior to hearing those words from my mom, she got married to our stepfather. I had never seen her so elated since her divorce with my dad, and I had never been more excited to see her with this much joy. We both shared pain through the divorce, yet she always said, "Everything will get better." and it did. From that day on we shared many great memories together that are tacked up on a wall and caged behind a plate of glass, our pictures. One of these frames contained an experience we had when we went on a mission trip together to Haiti. My dearest and most adored part of the trip was when ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Their Eyes Were Watching God In Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, the relationship between Janie and Nanny is one of great dispute over if it is healthy or not. The idea that the most influential person in Janie's life is also the one who triggered her struggles when she was becoming a woman is sadly ironic. Nanny's true influence on Janie is brought to light through symbolic, and decaying diction, Biblical, and Greek Mythological allusions, and natural metaphors, by describing Janie's journey to womanhood, through finding her own opinion, acquiring a stable life from Nanny, her maturation, and what she gained when becoming a woman. Through the use of symbolic diction, decaying diction, and metaphors, Hurston illustrates Janie's inner struggle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A new side of Nanny is implied through decaying diction when Nanny enters Janie's mind on her knees because moving on the knees both brings pain for the person being walked on, and is a submissive way to be walked towards. This shows that Nanny both wants to force Janie to take on her opinions and ask for forgiveness. What surfaces in this passage through positive unlikely characterization, and biblical allusions, is the plight of Nanny in that she knows she is going to die soon, and wants to make sure that Janie's life is stable before it happens. Through positive unlikely characterization Nanny attempts to explain the crossroads that she was at whilst raising Janie, "Lawd, you know mah heart. Ah done de best Ah could do" (24). Even though Janie and Nanny had just had a fight, Janie does not understand Nanny's viewpoints. However, all that matters to Nanny is that the "Lawd" (24) knows her position. The fact that Nanny is not Janie's biological mother creates tension between the two of them because the values and way Nanny would raise a child are out of date to Janie. When Nanny says, "De rest is left to you" (24) she is referring to the Christian God. This biblical allusion implies that Nanny believes that she has completed her mission of raising Janie, and the rest of Janie's life lies in God's hands. She realizes that if she were to continue raising Janie it would deteriorate their relationship further. Therefore, Nanny is explaining and justifying ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Suicide And Suicide : The Influence Of Suicide "You were an angel in the shape of my mum / When I fell down you'd be there holding me up / Spread your wings as you go / And when God takes you back we'll say Hallelujah / You're home" (Sheeran, 2017). Imagine being told one of the most influential people in your life had passed away. Imagine thinking of everything you could have changed, if you had only had the chance. Imagine living with that constant regret of what you could have done. Imagine, pushing everyone away, because you're too young to understand how to grieve and lose someone you love. Imagine having to live your life without someone there to guide you, to care for you, and to encourage you. Imagine knowing that the one person you adored the most, didn't love themselves enough to stay in this world, even for you. Imagine having to attend your own mother's funeral, before you finished your sophomore year of high school. That's how I felt when I lost my mother to suicide, and I was too young to fully understand what happened. There is such a stigma around suicide, making people go out of there way to avoid the topic. I'm going to change that, because this is my experience, and how it changed me for the better, despite the loss I had to conquer first. Suicide is something I never thought I would have to deal with, but that's what everyone assumes, until it's too late. Knowing my mother as the influential and beautiful women she was, I would never have assumed she was struggling with a demon worse than I could ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Can you think of someone who you could not live without? Have you stopped and thought about who inspires you? Do you know someone who has influenced you? For me, there have been three influential people in my life who I love and cherish. I know I could not live without them because they inspire me so much. Those people are my mom, papa, and my best friend Jessie. They have all influenced me in many ways. First, I know that my mother has influenced me in a great number of ways. • 6. Factors That Affect A Child 's Development Development occurs within a child through psychological, biological, and emotional changes. It is a continuous process as each person progresses into their unique identity. Before a person can mature and assume their identity, they have to successfully complete the eight stages. According to Erikson, each stage is characterized by a "crisis" where psychological challenges would be resolved as the person move from each stage. Unfortunately, many factors can hinder a child's development. This brings about the argument of all time, nature verses nurture. Trust is an important quality that gives people confidence, certainty, and conviction. As an infant we learn this tool through our parents. Infants depend on safe, nurturing environment – food, safe shelter, comfort, love, and care. These needs when met allows a child to develop trust towards others. As we age and progress through each stage, people acquire different, but essential tools. These crisis can either transform them to the best that they can be, or the worst that they can be. With each stage a child acquires the tools of independence, self–awareness, skills, talents, and competence. At this point, they must decide "who they are, what they are going to do, and what they hope to make of their lives" (Travis & Wade, 2012, p. 98). Once the decision is made, they begin to experience intimacy with others and learn the value of generativity. Upon discovering their self through various influences and experiences, they have order and spiritual sense where they have gained the tool of ego integrity. Furthermore, these stages can negatively, or positively impact a child as they age depending on the type of parents this individual has. • 9. Leadership : The Power Of Influence Leadership: The Power of Influence The power of influence is perhaps one of the greatest intangibles of communication. Influence is a force with incalculable degrees of power. The verb "influence", by itself, describes an action that can only be seen as a result from an entirely separate action. In very few words, the connection that influence creates can be closely understood when associated with particular nouns. Hitler, Josef Mengele, and Osama bin Laden are just a few that can be easily identified and carry the weight of what influential leaders are capable of. Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, and Martin Luther King Jr., are also among the most influential people to have lived. One can plainly juxtapose the differences between these two classes of leaders, which often shadows the similarities shared: the power of influence. Leaders and Teachers Are teachers leaders? Or are leaders teachers? According to one source, they are one in the same (Eisenbach, 2014). Eisenbach believes that educators fully realize the power of influence they wield over their classroom students (p.71). A teacher is naturally seen as the unchallengeable leader within the classroom. From the very beginning of our schooling years, we are accustomed to heeding to the thoughts and ideas of our educators that inevitably shape and grow our minds over time. They deliver wisdom and knowledge through the art of communication. The answer is simple: teachers are leaders, and leaders are teachers. I believe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A top hit song was written by a young artist, Ella Marija Lani Yelich–O'Connor (Lorde), she won the Grammy award for Song of the Year in 2013 with "Royals". There has been a multitude of covers and versions of this song since the release. The range of covers of "Royals" varies across the diverse genres in the music industry. Lorde's style is classified as an electropop genre, and three notable covers are made by a metal genre OTEP, an A cappella group Pentatonix, and lastly Mayer Hawthorne a soul music singer. All four songs impressively display the luxurious life of fame and that money is not what life is about. Lorde's original song "Royals" commences with a slow beat tempo with stomping and snapping incorporated. Then enters Lorde's suave voice describing how she has never seen a diamond ... One of the major notable modifications is that Hawthorne alters the layout of the lyrics. In the verse "gold teeth, grey goose, trippin' in the bathroom" (Lorde–Royals) Hawthorne entirely modifies the layout. Hawthorne's interpretation includes "gold teeth, grey goose, we don't care, we're driving Cadillac's in our dreams" (Hawthorne) instead of Lorde's original longer pre–chorus version. Red Letter Christians wrote an article saying, "Messages that are consistently negative and focus on an individual's faults and flaws are only likely to increase feelings of stress, fear, and anxiety..." If someone were to continuously point out a flaw, that is only going to make the person feel worse about it, especially if they are trying to change it. Robin Tran said, "Tough love has caused irreparable damage to [her] psyche to the point where [she] no longer believes [her] own feelings." Tough love makes a person feel even lonelier than they felt before, more ashamed, and like a burden on everyone in their life. When others who haven't experienced what someone else is going through tries to intervene by saying they have all the answers, it often comes across more arrogant than compassionate. The Recovery Help Desk writes, "All too often, tough love behaviors are more destructive than the behaviors of feelings of anger, frustration, confusion, and desperation." It is selfish of the person to want someone to feel better right when they want them to. They could take a big step forward, but in the end, it doesn't mean they are completely healed. McLellan said, "Parents find it difficult to believe, but in every high school survey, kids rate their parents as the most influential people in their lives. Parents have powers they don't exercise. They give the kid access to a car, a credit card, or pay their tuition. Those are all factors with proper instructions that can help them gain control of their kids behavior when the kid can't..." In one's life, there is always someone or something steering them in a direction. It can be as complex as an intervention held for someone, or as simple as a small talk with someone that is idolized. In the short memoir, The Color of Water, by James McBride, James takes the simple route. He is portrayed as a young careless boy throughout the story and starts going into a downward spiral after death approaches those around him. I believe that there are three major things that effect how people develop their character–where they are from, which includes their financial status; how they are raised; and the character of the people that have had the most influence on their lives. Sylvia, in Toni Cade Bambara's "The Lesson," is very much influenced by all of these factors. Sylvia's living in the slums and being poor makes her defensive and judgmental. This is represented in Sylvia's behavior, for example, when she wants to steal Ms. Moore's cab money and run to the bar–b–que. Although most of Sylvia's actions are conceivably wrong, it would be inappropriate to blame her solely for her mistakes. It is impossible for any child to understand what is right or wrong if it was never defined for him/her. He explains the influential strength of our subconscious that controls our intuitions and perceptions that translates into our daily actions. These daily actions occur via thorough thinking or through a simple technique Gladwell calls, "thin– slicing". Specifically, this technique showcases how an individual can extract in depth details about a situation, only given a snapshot of a given scenario. Gladwell explains, "If he [researcher John Gottman] analyzes an hour of a husband and wife talking, he can predict with 95 percent accuracy whether that couple will still be married fifteen years later. If we watched a couple for fifteen minutes, his success rate is around 90 percent." From this, Gladwell expands to educate his readers on how to exploit these instincts in order to live our lives more efficiently. Or, in his words, to "think without thinking". However, Gladwell does outline the dangers of thin slicing when done inaccurately exemplified by fatal police shootings conducted by officers who've misjudged a situation such as Amanda Diallo's case. Additionally, thin–slicing can backlash when individuals are racist or prejudice. I saw so many others talk about the problems, but never did anything to help with the predicament. I was in the same boat as those who talked about the issues, but did not know what to do to help. One other novel that I read in class was Sparks Of Genius, written by Robert and Michele Root– Bernstein. It was definitely more difficult to understand, but not impossible to read or make sense of. Like The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know Is Possible, Sparks Of Genius has many thinking tools that come together to help us be more imaginative. It takes not just one, but multiple ideas to be effective when creating a more beautiful world. As I read the novel, I was deeply intrigued with the chapter, "Imaging." From what I was able to understand, imaging is an important tool when visualizing what you desire. The most influential people in the world use imaging as well to help with their ideas and accomplishments. From what I am able to comprehend, imaging is critical to all fields of study and useful when it comes to creativity. Although the novel, Sparks Of Genius, was not as easy for me to understand in comparison to The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know Is Possible, I am still able to understand that if we want to accomplish our goals and make a change to the world we live in, it is important to be creative and that there are more ways than one to do ... Just Right For Me : My Role Model In My Life Just Right For Me The happiest, most exciting memories I hold on to are often accompanied by a country song, whether it be playing in the background, or roaring over the speakers. Songs are written for people to feel and relate to the emotion the songwriter and singer put behind the lyrics. Growing up having my dad be my role model and most influential person in my life, I often find myself in things that remind me of him or our memories, along with songs that describe a girl who is fearless and lives on the edge at times, as if there are no consequences. For me, this is especially true listening to the song "She Ain't Right," by Lee Brice, which highlights my personality and strength I got from my dad, my sense of fearlessness, and my constant seeking out of adventure. Growing up, I was, and am, my dad's little sidekick. We are best friends. Naturally, being such a daddy's girl, I picked up his habits, which include being expressive via curse words and not filtering my thoughts before saying them out loud. "She Ain't Right" begins with a line "She got her Daddy's tongue and temper, sometimes her mouth could use a filter." These words could not resonate with me any more! There have even been several times I catch myself asking, "Woah, is that my voice in my head, or Dad's?" The very first time I ever heard my dad curse was in Target at the checkout. • 26. Question: Where Do Our Attitudes About Good And Bad Language Question: Where do our attitudes about good and bad language come from and how do they correlate with language discrimination? Ever since the beginning of time, communication has never been considered foreign to any living creature. As a child, you automatically pick up from your surroundings even if you are unaware of it at that very moment in time, same type of concept with language. When you hear your family members, your peers, and other types of "influential" individuals communicate, your brain acts as a sponge in a sense and absorbs what information you hear from them. Now, not all things that other people say are positive especially when it comes to language. For instance, you are taught from a very young age that they way ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... What this means is that people make judgements off the way others communicate, which is something you already may have known because you might do the same exact thing on a daily basis. Language is something that is sacred in a sense because it is something that makes you the person you are today or is just the reason why people look at you the way they do, it is what makes you special. As I had stated previously, the attitudes about good and bad language come from "influential" individuals. Now, the reason I use the word influential is because it is almost impossible to pinpoint what people everyone sees or hears from and try to emulate what those influential people preach into their daily lives. Influential people may be parents, friends, celebrities, journalists, or government officials, basically those people who you feel have the biggest input/ impact on the way you think about things. One of the most powerful figures that we try to emulate from are celebrities, without a doubt. When you see a celebrity, someone who has a lot of money, you will automatically assume that whatever they say, it must mean something. In a sense, we idolize celebrities because they are powerful, they can go anywhere their hearts desire just because they want to. We all wish to be like some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 27. Life Is An End Activity Based Solely Upon Us Through... Joel Osteen and Aristotle explain happiness as an end activity based solely upon us through choice, virtue, and character. They do so in exploring the idea of happiness being a choice, whether it is a virtuous activity, and the content of character and if it affects the end result of happiness. Osteen and Aristotle explore ideas that concur and oppose each other, reaching some of the same points; despite living over two thousand years apart. Osteen a very well known pastor, gives a sermon on modern views of how to be happy. He makes it very clear throughout his sermon that happiness is a choice. For example he clearly says, "Happiness is a choice". He also states, "You only allow things you want to frustrate you" here he is implying that you can allow things to frustrate you. If you can allow something to frustrate you, or be unbothered by it then it becomes a choice. Osteen also touches on the subject of your character affecting your happiness. In the video Osteen states, "Life is to short to live it negative and grumpy" so Osteen is saying that if you live your life negative and grumpy, and that is the outlook you have on life and it's your character to be that way you wont be happy. The last big point Osteen makes is to stay focused on what you want and be happy and find the good in what you have. One of the quotes he uses for this is, "If you don 't learn to be happy where you are, you'll never get to where you want to be". Osteen is saying to be happy where you are ... • 28. Essay on Graduation Speech We live in a time in which everything is categorized by lists, whether it's a dreaded school rubric or a David Letterman Top Ten List. As the millennium turns, we are deluged with lists: the best books of the millennium, the greatest songs of the millennium, the most influential people of the millennium. Personally, I may be sick of all these lists, but no graduating class of 2006 could let this occasion slip by without one more list: The Top Ten Things I Learned in High School. So listen along and see if your experience parallels mine. Here goes: Lesson No. 10: It is 10 percent of the people who do 90 percent of the work. Lesson No. 7: Chemistry closets are not a good place to hide away from the world. They may be an easy solace in times of despair, but eventually you have to put down the chemicals and come out again. Lesson No. 6: Now that my teachers no longer have the power to adjust my grades, I'd still like to point out that most teachers really do care. That's why they're here, not for the long summer vacations or the short paychecks. Whether you knew it or not, they had a great influence on each and every one of us. They deserve a thank–you, even the ones who actually made you work. Lesson No. 5: After careful analysis of speech patterns, I have discovered that it is impossible ... to ... speak ... more ... slowly ... than ... our ... principal. At least no one ever has any difficulty understanding him. Lesson No. 4: It is not necessary to wake up at 3:30 a.m. to get a senior parking–lot permit. But if you do, you'll be the first one in line. Lesson No. 3: Grades aren't everything. It took me a long time to learn this one. I thought achievement was measured by the first four letters of the alphabet – really, by the first letter alone. • 29. A Lesson Before Lying In The Movie : A Lesson Before Dying "Hog", such a simple three letter word, but so hurtful that it could have a major impact on someone's life. Not many people think about the impacts they can have on people by saying certain things. The movie "A Lesson Before Dying" explores the meanings simple words can have on people's lives. Taking place in a small town called Bayonne in Louisiana, a black man named "Jefferson" is falsely accused of murders he did not commit. While in court, Jefferson's lawyer claims that all Jefferson is, is a poor hog that is not capable of committing such a crime. Jefferson takes his lawyer's claim to heart and starts to even believe that he, himself is really a hog. But throughout the book, certain women help Jefferson dig deep to believe in his self worth. In the movie "A Lesson Before Dying", a select few women have profound influences on the men in the movie. Halfway through the movie Grant and Tante Lou were in Tante Lou's house along with Miss Emma and the Reverend. All four of the characters were having a conversation about Jefferson on how he needs faith. Not all of the characters agreed that Jefferson needed to pray and have faith in God to make it to heaven. During the conversation, Grant was arguing Tante Lou about religion and Grant swore about black people to her. Tante Lou slapped Grant in the face and said, "Nobody says nigger in my house". Later in the scene Grant and Tante Lou made up and apologized to each other, Tante Lou made it clear to Grant that he did not need to talk poorly about Jefferson or black people like that and that he needed to show some respect. This shows that Tante Lou influenced Grant and taught him not to treat people of his own race badly. If Tante Lou had not taught Grant that, he may of kept downgrading his friends, family, and religion. A quarter of the way into the movie, Vivian and Grant were alone together in Grant's house laying on the bed and talking to each other. They were chatting about their pasts and maybe what their futures would look like. Their conversation started of good and lovingly until it turned into an argument and later a fight. Grant was talking to Vivian on how he did not believe it was his job or obligation to have to visit Jefferson and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Song Analysis Of 'RedRed Wine' The theme of this song relates to Danny's patriotic feeling before the story of the book. Danny and his friends were feeling particularly patriotic one day. The most relatable part of the song for Danny would be the verse, "I'm proud to be an American where at least I know I'm free". Danny is a paisano, a mix of native american and mexican, but he still considers himself as an American at the time when non white people were discriminated against. Danny and his friends Pilon and Joe are still willing to fight for their country because they are proud of their country's history. The song is all about serving your country and feeling pride for all that the United States. On that day that was the exact feeling that compelled him to enlist in the army. "Red Red Wine" by UB40 perfectly describes how Danny handles stress. When ever he experiences a conflict his first resolution is to go buy a gallon of wine and drink it. Danny feelings are best expressed through the line, "Red, red wine it's up to you. All I can do, I've done" because he lets the wine take control of him. Danny becomes a different person when he drinks too much, which he tends to do. Drinking is what got him thrown in jail and everytime he drinks with his friends they end up fighting about something. Instead of solving his own problem Danny gives the wine all of the control in his life and causes him to lose himself. He has given me more than any other single person on this planet. He gave me the desire to do better. He gave me the focus and the hunger to be intellectually curious. He gave me these things because he never had them. My father has been in and out of prison since April 29th, 2011. So during freshman year of high school I was a student council officer and a member of the leadership class. It was obvious that I would continue in doing what I was good at by applying for the student council officer class as a sophomore. I went through the difficult process of campaigning and following all of the very strict campaign rules that had been set on those applying, even though others did not. I'm a very competitive person so I was determined to secure one of the eight spots in the class. Since I won every other thing I had ever tried out for I had assumed this would be the same. After all I had all of the classifications; good grades, never been suspended or had detention,a history with student council, and I even gave people candy with a campaign slogan on them to get people to vote for me.
