Andreas Vesalius Accomplishments
"I strive that in public dissection the students do as much as possible so that even the least trained of
them must dissect a cadaver before a group of spectators, he will be able to perform it accurately
with his own hands; and by comparing their studies one with another they will properly understand,
this part of medicine." – Andreas Vesalius, In these next paragraphs I will prove to you how smart
and intelligent of a man Andreas Vesalius was. Andreas Vesalius was born December 31, 1514 in
Brussels, Habsburg, Netherlands. His parents are Isabel Crabbe and Andries Van Wesel. As a kid
Andreas loved the dismemberment of animals. His spouse was Anne Van Hamme. They had one

One major achievement was finding the modern day human anatomy. Along with all of this he also
had many books published. One of his most important books was the "De Humani Corporis
Fabrica" which was a huge progress for science. This book proved that the idea of men and women
having different amount of ribs was wrong. This book also made him a royal physician after it was
shown to the Holy Roman Emperor. It also proved that many of Galen's findings were wrong. In
1541, Andreas realized Galen's research was based of animal dissections due to human dissection
being in banned in Ancient Rome. He would dissect Barbary Macaques because it was closest to the
man body structure. Andreas had many scientific findings in the skeletal system, muscular system,
vascular and circulatory systems, nervous system, abdominal organs, and the heart. Vesalius's work
was part of one the earliest health programs. The Council of Doges in Venice. They responded to the
bubonic plague. University of Padua devoted themselves to figure out more. Like how it spreads,
how it develops in a person, and if it's possible for victims to be cured. If it wasn't for Andreas
dissecting the body of a felon named Jakob Karrer Von Gebweiler, the discovery of the human
anatomy could've came along a lot

A Comparison of The Perfect Storm Movie and Novel Essay
A Comparison of The Perfect Storm Movie and Novel
The Perfect Storm is a novel written by Sebastian Junger, that retells the horrific story of fishermen
and sailors who were caught in the eye of the worst storm in history. The book mainly focuses on
the Andrea Gail, a swordfishing boat, with a crew of 6 men, who disappeared without a trace deep
into the northern atlantic sea. In the year 2000, almost 10 years after the tragic event took place, a
motion picture, perfectly titled, The Perfect Storm which was based on the novel was released.
There were subtle to few changes in the plot line of the story, however there were many differences
among the book and movie. The movie is very intact with the plot and ... Show more content on

The movie didn`t portray an important aspect, when the Andrea Gail was replacing and upgrading
its gears in the beginning, but the book did. That played a key role in why the Andrea Gail was
caught in the storm in the first place. The ice machine had broken down leaving the crew with no
choice but to return home, which meant heading into the storm, otherwise the fish they had worked
so hard to catch would spoil, making a whole waste of the trip. There were also details within the
book that offered much enlightment about the sea, the life of a fisherman, how a person dies, and
storms, yet the movie failed to offer that. That`s just one more argument for the debate of whether
its better to read the book or watch the movie.
There were certain plots that took place in the movie, but wasn`t mentioned in the book, if not then
it was only briefly brought about. When the 6 men were out in the bar drinking and partying the
night before they were off to sea once again, the book mentioned only briefly about Murph, one of
the crewmen, ?he has an ex–wife Debra, and a three–year–old baby, also named Dale, whom he
openly adores?. In the movie, it showed Murph and his son, who wasn`t three years old, but older, in
the movie, bonding that last night. However, the book never mentioned this event taking place. The

Andreas Vesalius Research Paper
Andreas Vesalius was a Renaissance Physician who revolutionized the way we look at anatomy. He
transformed the study of biology and the practice of medicine by reevaluating the human body. Past
physicians had given believable but incorrect knowledge about the human anatomy. His work was
seen as being against the church which proposed a big challenge for Vesalius due to the fact that at
this time the church had a lot of power. He was called a Renaissance Physician because he was a
physician during the time of the "rebirth" or the "enlighten age" which was a period in time in which
society and scholars thought that we should begin to fix the way we live. It was a time of
advancement in every field including art, agriculture, science and many more. This led to many
people questioning things that other saw as facts, and led to a time of testing and hypothesizing.
This is the age in which the scientific method created and used. Scholars began to gain knowledge

research of Galen, who was a physician whose study of the anatomy was almost all of the
understanding of the anatomy we had at the time. Galen based most of his ideas of the human
anatomy on that of the anatomy of animals which he had dissected. He believed that they were
relatively the same, which could not be more incorrect. Vesalius discovered one mistake while

Importance of Forensic Psychology in Legal Proceedings
What and why is Forensic Psychology Important in Legal Proceedings?
Beth Velez
Southern New Hampshire University
Justice 101–Introduction to Criminal Justice
Forensic psychology is an important part of the legal system, dating back to 1921. I plan to show in
my paper just how forensic psychologists conduct their assessments, the implications on what the
assessment and testing shows, and how it can benefit not only the defendant, but society as well.
Forensic psychologist can show if a person is faking their mental illness or truly needs further
intensive inpatient care versus jail. Forensic psychology can aid the judge, the prosecutor, the
defendant, and the jury to ensure the defendant receives the proper sentence if convicted of a ...

In 1940, forensic psychology took another big step forward, when the courts deemed an expert
witness should be based on the expert's knowledge versus the type of degree they possessed
("Forensic Psychologist – Psychology Jobs in Forensic Psychology, by AlleyDog.com," n.d.).
Between 1940 and 1960, forensic psychology remained stagnant and did not become completely
recognized for matters concerning mental illness in the courts until Jenkins vs. United States in 1962
(Dye, n.d.). It was not until 1991, that specific guidelines for forensic psychology were developed
and published by the Committee on Special Guidelines for forensic psychology (American
Psychological Association, 2012). In 2001, forensic psychology became and medically accepted as a
sub–discipline with psychology by the American Psychology Association ("Forensic Psychologist –
Psychology Jobs in Forensic Psychology, by AlleyDog.com," n.d.).
A forensic psychologist could work for the courts, police, prosecutors, defendants, prisons, or in
civil matters like child custody hearings. Forensic psychology is a recognized specialty that requires
education not only in psychology, but legal knowledge (like courtroom procedures, case law, and
mental health law). The current model of education for a forensic psychologist is earning a doctoral
degree in psychology and a post–doctoral degree in either law or forensics (Franklin, 2014).

Essay Mang Minno
Allusions to Vampires in "Mang Minno" In "Mang Minno", a short story within 'Where The
Elephants Dance' by Tess U Holthe , a young boy named Roman encounters a man named Mang
Minno, who is believed by the island people to be Jonah from the Bible. When Roman meets him,
he wishes to learn how to catch fish, so that he can show them to his father. He thinks that all he is
getting himself involved in is a method with which to gain large amounts of fish, very quickly.
However, he soon finds that he is getting involved in something far more sinister. As the story
progresses, it becomes clear the Mang Minno is some sort of evil entity. However, without looking

These clues are the most direct in the story, they take traits directly from vampire folk lore and
superimpose them on Mang Minno.
Mang Minno's attitude and aura are both also similar to that of a vampires; rather vile and dark. His
aura is well illustrated with the following examples: His voice is described as having an unsettling
effect on Roman: "The bitterness of his voice touched me like fingers of the dead" (81). This simile,
referring to the dead, shows that Roman may subconsciously be aware of what Mang Minno is.
After all, vampires are regarded as not being truly alive, but being life forces of the deceased. Mang
Minno's eyes are described as "glowing" (90), when Roman sees him from the boat he is riding with
Aurora (Mang Minno's daughter). Mang Minno's attitude is also illustrated by way of the disdainful
comments he makes about church:
In church, does it ever seem to you a kind of game? Hypocritical. Be humble, they say, yet people
come in their best clothes. Give penance, yet as they close their eyes and kneel, they compare who
is better dressed, the beauty of someone else's wife, the sway of her hips, they think of anything but
prayers.
(96)
This attitude is vile and dark, which Roman sees. It also fits in with the accounts of Mang Minno
being a devil worshiper, he would obviously be against God and churches. All of the above
demonstrates Mang Minno's

Summary Of Andreas Vesalius The Fabric Of The Human Body
In the publication of the book "The Fabric Of The Human Body" an Italian surgeon, Andreas
Vesalius, included many drawings of the human body, most of which went against Galen's theory of
opposites. In 1661 a lecturer in theoretical medicine at the university of Bologna, Marcello
Malpighi, had used the setting sun and a lense to look into a dried frog's lung, and was the first
recorded scientist to have used a microscope to observe capillaries through flesh. William Harvey
published a book, all 52 pages written entirely in Latin, arguing that blood does not flow through the
body in random places and at random times, but instead is systematically pumped to specific places
in the body in a continuous cycle. On the 14th of November 1665 an experiment

Mr. Boone accepts Christopher's special needs and wants him to succeed in life. He helps
Christopher a lot more than anyone else, even Judy Boone; Christopher's mother doesn't help
Christopher as much. Although Ed Boone's immoral actions were evil, the good intentions,

Ed stood up for Christopher when someone under estimated him and this let Christopher succeed on
to becoming what he wants to be. Ed Boone has good intentions toward Christopher and only
wishes the best for him, even though his actions and decisions are not always the best. He hid the
letters, that Christopher's mother sent Christopher. He also lied to Christopher about his mother,
telling Christopher that she died of a heart attack. Even though the things Ed did look evil and bad
hearted, he did it out of love. Just like he killed Wellington, Mrs. Shears dog, because he loved her
and she rejected him, and Ed got out of control. Ed lied and hid the letters from Christopher because
Christopher, being a person with special needs, did not feel sad and take the divorce and separation
of his parents too deeply and harshly. Ed also did this so Christopher would not leave him, because
Ed loves him a lot. After Ed found out that Christopher read the letters, he apologized and said, "I'm
sorry, Christopher, I'm so, so sorry" [Page 114]. Ed even said and told Christopher it was for his
safety and for good, that it was all for a good cause. Ed said,
"I did it for your good, Christopher. Honestly I did. I never meant to lie. I just thought... I just
thought it was better if you didn't know... that... that... I didn't mean to... I was going to show them
to you when you were older" [Page 114].

Andreas Vesalius Biography Andreas Vesalius, Flemish Anatomist and Physician, was born on 1514
in Brussels (currently Belgium) during the reign of the Roman Empire. He was the legacy of many
physicians including his father and grandfather, who serviced the Roman Emperor. Vesalius was a
student in the University of Louvain and the University of Paris, where he studied medicine. He
spent his time comparing Greek documents with Arabic translations and wrote a thesis on the work
of Islamic physician and surgeon, Al Razi. Shortly after he received a degree from University of
Padua in 1537, immediately then he got assigned as chair of surgery and anatomy. He is best known
as the founder and father of the modern science of anatomy. His first Anatomy text book was based

common form of treatment for several diseases at that time. In 1539, he was finally able to make

Andreas Vesalius And The Renaissance
Andreas Vesalius is one of the greatest minds of the Renaissance, he is frequently referred to as the
founder of modern human anatomy. The reason he accurately represents the Renaissance is because
of his dedication, persistence and intelligence. He was extremely dedicated to learn the truth about
the human anatomy. No matter the difficulties that he came across, he was determined to find the
truth, and because of this, he created the basic outline of human anatomy in modern studies and
shared his knowledge by writing his book called "De Humani Corporis Fabrica Libri Septem",
which is translated into "On the Fabric of the Human Body".
Andreas Vesalius proved his dedication by disproving Galen's discoveries about human anatomy. He

He contributed an extreme amount knowledge to the world and helped others understand how their
bodies work. This was not an easy task for Vesalius to do but through persistence and dedication, he
was able to show his intelligence to the world, through his significant discoveries of the human
body. He showed each of these traits in several ways. He showed dedication by disproving many
discoveries that were taught and believed for many years before him, though even with the difficulty
of convincing others that his discoveries were true, he published his findings. He showed
persistence by continuing to practice human dissection even with the strict laws against it and even
managed to convince a paduan judge to allow him to continue dissecting human corpses. Lastly, he
showed his intelligence in his book "De Humani Corporis Fabrica" in which he explains his
discoveries through illustrations and text. One lesson that can be learned from Vesalius is that, if you
truly believe that your actions will benefit the world in some way, then don't listen to what others

Theseus Character Analysis
Characterize the figure of Theseus.
Introduced as "a conqueror...greater" than any other "beneath the sun," Thesëus, the wise and
chivalrous lord Athens, is a merciful and noble duke (Chaucer 24). As a wise and noble leader,
Thesëus, with a "heart of pity," mends the ailments of his people, " as he [is] a true knight." (26).
How does Theseus treat the mourning women who ask for help against the tyrant Creon? Thesëus
mercifully agrees to to get vengeance on the tyrant Creon, who "[set] his dogs to eat" the women's
husbands instead of burying them. Theseus' mercy did not reach so far, as he went to Thebes to fight
and slay Creon "manfully, like knight, / [i]n open war" (26–27).

7. What is the situation of each knight at the close of Part One? What formal question is asked at the
end of the first part of the Knight's Tale? At the end of part one, Arcita leaves for Thebes, exiled
forever from Athens and distraught over never seeing his love again, while Palamon still lies in
prison, desolate without the company of his cousin, but still able to regale at the sight of Emily. The
question "Who has the worse, Arcita or Palamon?" allows the mind to wonder which fate is worse?
Never seeing your beloved, but living as a freeman, or imprisoned till death, but able to see the face

8. Provide evidence for any two characteristics of a romance evident so far. Refer to the prezi. A
romance requires the telling of a true story in remote places and times. The Knight's Tale begins
with the lines "Once upon a time," to retell the old events of Theseus in the ancient city of Athens
(24). The Knight's tale meets the requirement of a medieval romance in the first sentence, as it
opens with a tale of a far off land in ancient times. Idealized aristocratic conduct, another
requirement a medieval romance must meet, becomes present

Young Godman Brown Principle Of Faith
Principle of Faith Young Godman Brown is a prime example of the dark romantism and illustrates
in a very straightforward way a principle of faith. Nathaniel Hawthorne was an American novelist of
the beginning of the 19th century. At one point in life, he discovered the true about his father he
thought to be deeply religious man of pure heart. John Hathorne was not only a judge involved in
witch trial he also never repented for his actions. His novel Young Godman Brown is clearly a
deeply personal reaction to this revelation. Godman is an ordinary man, same as every other
American, leading a rightful life that would get him to heaven. He is married to a woman aptly
named Faith that represents not only purity of his whole world but also his way to heaven, his belief
in the goodness in everyone and the faith itself. It's almost night and Godman sets to a mysterious
journey, leaving his wife alone for an unknown, important but evil errand. The distance between
Young Godman and faith, both literally and figuratively, grows with every line. It starts with his
wife's nightmare: "as if a dream had warned her what work is to be done tonight" and her fears,
continue with a parting kiss and a longing, worried gaze. So while Godman remains clueless, it is
becoming more and more clear, where the book is heading and will eventually end. From the

Compare Andreas Vesalius And Leonardo Da Vinci
Dissecting– Andreas Vesalius and Leonardo da Vinci dissected human bodies and made Anatomical
drawings which help them understand the organs and systems of the human body.
Circulation– In 1628 William Harvey published a theory that states that the heart acts as a muscular
pump which circulates blood around the body.
Pharmacist– Renaissance pharmacist did research on herb and minerals like the bark of a Quina tree
which contained an ingredient called quinine which is used to treat malaria. Laudanum was an
opium–based painkiller.
Andreas Vesalius (December 31, 1514 – October 15, 1564) – He dissected human bodies and made
detailed drawings of everything like muscle structure and the heart. His drawing helped increase the
knowledge of anatomy tremendously, and helped physicians know where the organs were in the
body and to speculate what their functions were.
Paracelsus ( 1493– September 25, 1541) – Paracelsus was a firm believer that God provided a

The Art of Love
Framing for a Misogynist
The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the contemporary
social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social activities, proper style,
women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid's perspective, there are three different ways to
consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a beautiful treasure, and
as a means to assert social status. Comparatively, Andreas Capellanus writes in a way that makes
women seem respected, worthy and as something to a man would willingly devote his life to. Both
men have a clear fascination with women and their relationship to men. However, their distinct

one that is worth committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89–126). On the other end, Capellanus
views the trophy of virginity as futile and counters that while you know "some other man is
enjoying the embraces of your beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the more"
(2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the argument against adultery, again opposing the views of Ovid.
Capellanus explains his argument in detail by stating that a man in love is adorned "with the virtue
of chastity, because he who shines with the light of one love can hardly think of embracing another
woman, even a beautiful one" (1.4, 2).
Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his
tenderness, Ovid shares his heart, saying, "do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses;
do not think it a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet" (Art 2. 522–553) . This is simply an outstanding
statement, as it serves to show the true emotion and character of Ovid. This statement cannot be
taken lightly

My Life
I should have stopped him, I knew he was too young, his body; too weak, his brain; not smart
enough but I still let him go. His mother, Mrs. Robert's had made the mistake to trust me with her
only child, Cameron. I regret what happened to him, he was just an innocent five years old, full of
energy and curiosity that I used against him. I wish I could take it all back but I can't because that
poor child is already dead. Only because I let the evil inside me run free and chained the conscience
to the back of my brain. That one decision will haunt me for the rest of my life.
The same summer Cameron died, I was supposed to marry his uncle, Ben. A tall, handsome man

Everyone was happy, including Ben. He knew he would not be inheriting anything anymore but it
seemed like he didn't care, But I did.
I still remember the day, Cameron died , it was a regular July morning in the campsite, the smell of
burning wood and birds chirping had woken Cameron and I earlier than usual, just in time to watch
the sunrise. The morning sky was pink like a sea of cotton candy, with the light of the sun coloring
the clouds above with a pinkish hue. As the sun slowly ascended, the sky in the west became a deep
neon blue as the light reached further out. By the time we finished breakfast, the pink in the sky had
become a pale yellow mixed with blue. It was a peaceful morning but the peace of it did not remain
for too long instead it was replaced by regret that has still yet to leave me.
Cameron like every five years old loved exploring, the animal noises coming from the woods
intrigued him. There was a waterfall nearby, I took him there. It was not the gentle sort of waterfall
you might see in a stately home garden, it was the kind where torrents of water are poured over
rocks hard enough to crack your skull and mash your brains on the way down, then swirl in a plunge
pool below deep enough to drown you if you survived the fall. From the bottom, it was awe
inspiring, from the top it was brutal and terrifying. Cameron wanted to jump into it but I didn't let
him instead I agreed to play hide and seek. He ran into the forest in order to hide. In

The Aspects Of Medieval Courtly Love In The Middle Ages
Knights in armor, damsels in distress, heroic quests, masquerade balls–this was the essence of
romance in the Middle Ages. In medieval European literature, love is for the nobility, chivalrous,
and virtuous. Andreas Capellanus defined courtly love as "Love is a certain inborn suffering derived
from the sight of and excessive meditation upon the beauty of the opposite sex, which causes each
one to wish above all things the embraces of the other and by a common desire to carry out all of
love's precepts in the other's embraces." Capellanus 28) In other words love and suffering go hand–
in–hand, much like modern love. Capellanus gives the "Rules of Love" (1) governing how men and
women should behave in relationships. Compared to the modern–day idea of love, courtly love
rarely had a happy ending. Before the 18th century, marriages were usually business arrangements
that brought material advantages for everyone involved. Romance in the Middle Ages was mainly
combined with Chivalry. In the Legend of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, King
Arthur's Queen. Guinevere, fell in love with his right–hand and fellow knight, Sir Lancelot. This is
an example of one of the many illicit court romances that occurred due to the art of Medieval
Courtly Love. Modern–day movies and tv–shows that are set in the Middle Ages (such as Narnia,
Princess Bride, Galavant) value chivalry. The audience (mostly women) are supposed to fall in love
with the main male character, who is usually a

Andrea Yates : Mother Or Monster Essay
Andrea Yates: Mother or Monster Mothers have always been thought of as nurturing care givers.
Caregivers who have always done and thought of what is best for their children. But what happens
when the nurturing mother becomes the monster? What causes them to undergo such a drastic
change. Let's take a look at Andrea Yates. In Houston, Texas Andrea Yates was born on July 2, 1964
and raised as a devout Roman Catholic. Montaldo (2016) reports that Andrea Yates graduated from
Milby High School in 1982 with high honors. Yates was involved in extracurricular activities like
captain of her swim team and an officer in the national honor society (p. 1). The mother turned
monster then enrolled in the two–year pre–nursing program and graduated in 1986. From there
Andrea Yates went to work as a registered nurse at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer

it that pushed Yates to do what she did? Was it her own personal life or her marital life? Montaldo
(2016) writes, "Andrea and her future husband, Rusty Yates met each other in their Houston
apartment complex. Much of their time involved revolved around religious studies and prayers.
They were happily married on April 17, 1993 and later raised five children. The Yates couple's first–

Essay about Book Report on the Perfect Storm
Book Report on The Perfect Storm by Sebastian Junger
The fishing port of Gloucester, Massachusetts, just north of Boston, is one of the oldest fishing ports
in the United States and can trace its history to around 1623. Since that time, around ten thousand
men have lost their lives fishing the Atlantic Ocean. Not only did the fishing port feel the full brunt
of the storm but that fateful day in October 1991 was to add another six men to that tally when the
fishing boat Andrea Gail was caught in the full fury of the storm out on the fishing grounds, heading
back to port with a hold full of swordfish. The Perfect Storm is the story of that fateful trip of

The environment influences the characters quite a bit. Everybody in that community does something
that involves the fish industry or supplying alcohol for the fishermen. The lifestyles of the people
are basically fish for a month out on the open sea, come home for a week, get a drunk as you can,
give your wife and family all the money made and not spent on alcohol, and then leave to fish for
another month or two. The main characters in the story are all crew members of the same fishing
skipper so they act just as one would expect crew members to act towards one another. The
availability of food and water are very good. The story takes place on the coast so obviously there is
a lot of water and the entire story is based around fishing to supply the food industry with swordfish.
Fishing for swordfish is very profitable so all of these crew members are well to do.
The characters are involved in travel for work. They travel up and down the coast in pursuit of
swordfish. Therefore the goods that are being sold and traded are the swordfish. These swordfish are
coming from the Atlantic Ocean to be sent to be served in sea food restaurants. The cause for the
movement is the need of a job and money and food.
The physical region described in this story would basically be the coastal region. The part played by
this region is basically the location of a job and

Essay on Medical Progress Made By The End Of The Renaissance
Medical Progress Made By The End Of The Renaissance
What's the Renaissance? Well the Renaissance is a time of great intellectual, scientific and cultural
development, in our case we are looking at The Medical Renaissance which was from 1500 – 1650
and in this assessment we are going to look at diseases, treatments, doctors, technology and new
discoveries and by the end of this piece of writing, I will have answered the question ' What Medical
Progress Had Been Made By The End Of The Renaissance?'
In the Medical Renaissance many people did not know what caused disease. Most of what they
believed in was basically what people also believed about 350 years ago. This is because many

And that's all I have to say about that because those words speak for them selves.
The Doctors and Healers that were around during that time were very well educated and trained but
compared to what we know today; they were quite primitive. But in their day, they were modern.
There were two types of healers; they were licensed and unlicensed. The Licensed healers were:
Physicians– These were well–trained doctors, they would study the works of Galen and Hippocrates
and train for 15years. They were first class doctors. Many rich and important people would have
their own physicians.
Surgeons – These were known as second–class doctors, this is because surgery was only necessary
if you needed an amputation. Surgeons trained for years but almost always by watching their teacher
performing the surgery and them taking notes.
Apothecary– These were early forms of chemists and sold mixed remedies.

A quote from Anatole Broyard, "It is one of the paradoxes of American Literature that our writers
are forever looking back with love and nostalgia at the lives they couldn't wait to leave." People
reminisce of some of the worst moments in American history with a dampening eye, glossing over
all the grit. Out of the populus, the ones who actively present Broyard's quote as fact are content

They pushed on into the nor'easter turned hurricane and were never heard from again. We looked
back at these men and their time with lightheartedness, like a quick glimpse of a photo, not really
thinking about them or the period itself.
Jumping to the year 1937 at the end of the Great Depression, we witness the tale of a single mother,
Amanda her son, Tom, and daughter, Laura. A mother who's trying to push her daughter into
marriage and shoving her son to work while also trying to relive her glory days, a rinse–repeat story
in those days. You were either male and slaved in factories for pay like Tom or female and raised to
be a housewife to marry a wealthy man. Tom's an aspiring poet who works in a warehouse while his
sister isolates herself because of her shyness and bad leg, and their mother is woman looking for
wealth whether her or her daughter acquires it. Amanda sends her son out to find a man for Laura
and he brings back Jim O'Connor. Lo and behold, Jim apparently had been Laura's high school
crush. A dinner ensues with the family, ending with an awkward exchange between Jim and Laura
where they kiss and it is revealed that Jim has a fiancée. Jim leaves and Amada blames Tom, who
eventually loses his job and skips town on them. Another 'great time period' where life for most
wasn't well. Yet authors try to shed light on it wherever possible.

The Human Body Has Changed Over 3000 Years Ago
The history of the human body has changed over 3,000 years ago. Many physicians based their
findings primarily through intuitive thinking and ancient philosophers. The primary reason I chose
this topic is because I love the anatomy and knowing all the organs, body parts, and the way the
body functions. After my aunt was diagnose with type 2 diabetes, I had a strong desire to know, how
could this be? I thought, "Why not know the history behind it and the science itself. What exactly
caused it? What specific organs in the body were affected by it? And is it preventable? Just take a
look around science is all around you. You may not see it through the naked eye, but believe me it's
there. "The Father of Medicine", and Greek physician, Hippocrates is well known in today 's era. He
believed diseases of the human body were naturally caused; rather than by demons. While on the
other hand, a Roman physician, Claudius Galen made fallacious judgements of the human body;
primarily because he only dissected animals and not cadavers. Andreas Vesalius had been much
more absurd; when performing dissection on dead bodies, in his anatomy class. Modern day
philosophers Hippocrates, Claudius Galen, and Andreas Vesalius had a passion for science and
incorporated their thoughts in skills into their own work.
Hippocrates found factors, which contributed to the underlying causes of diseases, in the human
body. During his time people, people believed that diseases were caused by some demonic

Can we follow the art of Courtly Love today?
De Amore, written by Andreas Capellanus is a treatise about the art of courtly love. Douglas Kelly,
in his article mentions that, "This disconcerting treatise provides us with the only true art of courtly
love that we possess, but it also contains a very harsh attack against love. The antithetical attitude
towards love is all the more astonishing because Andreas, although a churchman, devoted far more
space to the instruction on how to love and the praise of love than to the attack on it" (Kelly, 1968,
p.119).

Therefore, I believe that blind people are better at love than us because they know the true value of
being in love. A lot of times, we take love for granted and feel that it's not hard to find. But we never
understand how hard it is for some people, specially the ones with impairments and how much one
needs to struggle to have someone in their lives who loves them unconditionally.
I completely disagree with the limitations of age to love. I think someone can fall in love when they
are fifty and also when they are fifteen. For example, my aunt was unmarried till she was fifty two.
She just never found someone who she loved deeply but she continued to look for love. But at the
age of fifty two, she met her husband and they fell in love. So, I do not think that age should be a
factor in love. I think a person can fall in love at any time in their lives.
And as far as excess of passion is concerned, I feel that for some people, one woman/man is never
enough and they still might continue to love more than one person. I think it is okay for a person to
constantly shift lovers as long as they find someone who they can love forever and then spend the
rest of their life with that person.

him when he says that blind people cannot love. I know of many blind people who are in love. I

Andreas Vesalius
Andreas Vesalius
I. Biography
Andreas Vesalius was born on Dec. 31, 1514, in Brussels, the son of Andries van Wesele and his
wife, Isabel Crabbe. Vesalius's paternal ancestors, who hailed from the German town of Wesel, came
to Brussels in the early 15th century and became prominent as physicians and pharmacists. His
father served as pharmacist to Margaret of Austria and later to Emperor Charles V. His great–
grandfather, Johannes Wesalia, was the head of the medical school at the University of Louvain,
where Vesalius started his medical studies in 1530. He matriculated as Andres van Wesel de
Bruxella.
In 1533 Vesalius transferred to the medical school of the University of Paris. One of his two

He sought to locate the precise site for venesection in pleurisy within the framework of the classical
method. The real significance of the book attempt to support his arguments by the location and
continuity of the venous system from his observations rather than appeal to earlier published works.
With this novel approach to the problem of venesection, Vesalius posed the then striking hypothesis
that anatomical dissection might be used to test speculation.
The second edition of the Fabrica, in 1555, contained many improvements on the first, but in
retrospect it was also a disappointment. One wonders about the new course medicine might have
taken, had Vesalius dedicated himself completely to the cause of anatomical research. Some time
after the accession of Philip II to the imperial throne, Vesalius became again one of the imperial
physicians. Vesalius's absence from medical schools showed itself in his Examination of Gabriele
Fallopio's Anatomic Observations (1561), in which he had to avoid passing judgment on a number
of points in Fallopio's book because he had no way of verifying them.
It is a moot question whether Vesalius used a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1564 as a pretext to
leave Spain and the imperial court. Some claimed that he went to the Holy Land to study medicinal
plants on the plains of Jericho, a topic on which he is known to have discoursed on his way there.
Vesalius might have very well made the pilgrimage out of devotion, as did many

Essay about Architectural Forms in the Mannerist Period
During the Mannerist period, architects experimented with using architectural forms to emphasize
solid and spatial relationships. The Renaissance ideal of harmony, gave way to freer and more
imaginative rhythms.
During the High Renaissance, architectural concepts derived from classical ancient times were
developed, and used with bigger surety. The most representative architect is Bramante (1444–1514),
who expanded the applicability of classical architecture to contemporary buildings in a style that
was to control Italian architecture in the sixteenth century. During the Mannerist period, however,
architects experimented with using architectural forms to stress on solid and spatial relationships.

Giulio Romano (1499–1546), was a pupil of Raphael, assisting him on various works for the
Vatican. Romano was also a highly inventive designer, working for Federico II Gonzaga at Mantua
on the Palazzo Te (1524–1534), a project which combined his skills as architect, sculptor, and
painter. In this work, which integrated garden grottoes and extensive frescoes, he uses illusionistic
effects, surprising combinations of architectural form and texture, and the frequent use of features
that seem somewhat unbalanced or out of alignment.
Michelangelo's architectural fame lies chiefly in St Peter's Basilica in Rome. St Peter's was "the
greatest creation of the Renaissance," and a great number of architects contributed their skills to it.
But at its conclusion there was more of Michelangelo's design than of any other architect. When he
took over the project in 1546 Michelangelo integrated Bramante's Greek–cross plan and redesigned
the piers, the walls, and the dome, giving the lower weight–bearing members huge proportions and
eliminating the encircling aisles from the chancel and identical transept arms. Michelangelo's dome
was a masterpiece of design using two masonry shells, one within the other and crowned by a
massive lantern supported, as at Florence on ribs .For the exterior of the building, he designed a

To completely understand the contributions of Andreas Vesalius to biology, one would need to

"Anatomy is: a branch of morphology that deals with the structure of organisms." (Merriam–

Galenic teachings were created by Claudius Galenus who followed the rules of Roman religion
when making his discoveries, which lead to many errors in his teachings since Roman religion
would not allow the use of cadavers ("Andreas"). All that was known about anatomy and physiology
were the teachings of Galenus, which were incorrect ("Anatomy", Florkin). Before Galenus there
was even less knowledge on medicine. Medicine was based on, mostly, the teachings of Hipocrates
before Galenus which proved even less reliable but still laid a sturdy foundation for medicine
("Anatomy", Florkin). Although Vesalius found many inaccuracies in Galenus' work, his own work
contained many as well. Which, over time, were corrected as well. Before Vesalius research was
soley abstract based or based on observations of other mammals and cutting into cadavers was
prohibited (Florkin, "Turney"). Now, surgeries, which require cutting, save lives every day. Without
Vesalius the advancements in anatomy and physiology would be less progressed. Vesalius' efforts

Andreas Vesalius The Father Of Human Anatomy
Andreas Vesalius was one of the greatest minds of the Renaissance, he is frequently referred to as
the founder of modern human anatomy. The reason he accurately represents the Renaissance is
because of his dedication, persistence and intelligence. He was extremely dedicated to learn the
truth about the human anatomy. No matter the difficulties that he came across, he was determined to
find the truth, and because of this, he created the basic outline of human anatomy in modern studies
and shared his knowledge by writing his book called "De Humani Corporis Fabrica Libri Septem",
which is translated into "On the Fabric of the Human Body". Andreas Vesalius proved his dedication

Billy Budd Analysis
Billy Budd is the story of the sailor Billy Budd and his time on the H.M.S Bellipotent during the last
decade of the 18th century, after being impressed from the previous ship he was on "The Rights of
Man". He was seen as a "handsome sailor", and was loved by his old crew. He was also innocent to
a fault. This man could not see the bad or suspicious in someone at all. In the context of this novel,
he was the purest good in this ship, which could also be seen as a microcosm of the world as it was.
Billy as a whole is seen mainly as a man without fault. He could do no wrong in his world, because
he is the personification of all that is good. This makes his one flaw, that being his stutter, the
perfect aspect of his being to show us of the dangers of innocence. The fact that he cannot bring
words out to defend himself against the malice tossed at him because his very being will not allow
him to even comprehend that there are people in the world with such ill intent. Ill intent does not
exist to him, and it ultimately proved to be his undoing. As if almost a flip of a coin, Claggart can be
seen as the complete opposite than that of Billy. An ugly man, in both the figurative and literal
sense, Claggart's innate malice is without cause or limit. While Billy lacks the awareness of the
differences of human actions and the intentions behind them, Claggart knows these differences all

Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis
Lord of the Flies is able to display the shared defect of evil that all people have. Multiple conflicts
throughout the novel bring out the evil characteristics of all the boys on the island. William Golding
portrays the boys as a symbol of youth and innocence when they land on the island, then he shows
that they progressively lose their innocence as the evil is brought out in all of them. As Jack and
Ralph have a constant struggle for power, they influence the other boys in their loss of youth by
dividing and fighting. Through the conflicts between Jack and Ralph, Golding shows that evil is an
inevitable defect found in all human beings. Jack's obsession of hunting and killing a pig leads to
evil sprouting inside him. Being the leader of the choir, he was able to convince the hunters in
helping him fulfill his obsession and disobey Ralph's orders of keeping the fire going. As Jack
details the kill, Golding writes that Jack speaks "proudly, and yet twitched" (69). The use of Jack
twitching is a sign of the sinister joy that he finds in killing, and is proud to be the one that did the
killing to hopefully win their loyalty. The hunters realize what they had done through Jack's
thoughts of the "knowledge that had come to them when they closed in on the struggling pig,
knowledge that they had outwitted a living thing, imposed their will upon it, taken away its life like
a long satisfying drink" (Golding 70). Golding uses the word "struggling" to emphasize that the

grievances against Lord George III. This report generally proclaimed the opportunity of the
American People from the rule of the English crown, while the last talked about a statute of
religious freedom where there was a partition of chapel and state. In addition to writing, Jefferson
likewise had a liking for Neoclassical architecture.
Jefferson was by all account not the only individual interested with Neoclassical architecture as
Robert Adam was too. Robert Adam, dissimilar to Jefferson, was English and was conceived on July

The Positive Impacts Of Andreas Vesalius
It wasn't until the 16th century that an accurate textbook of human anatomy was published. just

often referred to as the founder of modern human anatomy. Yet Vesalius accomplished much more
than a mayor textbook. He revolutionize the practice of medicine by introducing human dissection's
into medical curriculum. Vesalius also expanded anatomical research as his major discoveries laid
the foundation for a better understanding of the human body and health. Well his discoveries had

Film and Book The Striped Pajamas by John Boyne Essay
Sins of the Father The movie 'Boy in the Striped Pajamas', based on the book by John Boyne, isn't
exactly a feel–good film, but it is an awesome representation of the existence of good and evil, and
the responsibility we have as human beings to distinguish between the two; for it is responsibility
that distinguishes us from every other being. In my opinion, this is an important, life–changing film,
with a significant message, and should be seen by all. The movie is told from the point of view of
eight year old Bruno whose innate sense of morality and justice ultimately makes him the fallen
hero of the story. The premise of the movie focuses on a friendship that develops between Bruno
and Shmuel, also eight, and a victim of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Standing up on the swing to get a better view, he falls off of the swing and scrapes his knee. Pavel,
runs to help Bruno, takes him inside and bandages his knee. Pavel, assuring Bruno that he will be
just fine, sits down and begins to peel potatoes. Bruno then replies "How should you know, you're
not a doctor, you're a farmer." Pavel responds, "I was a doctor before coming here". Bruno is
confused why the man would give up being a doctor to work on the farm and peel potatoes. Later
that week, Bruno sneaks out and finds a door leading to a shed; he opens the window inside and
gains the freedom he has been longing for. Bruno begins his exploration of the woods outside the
compound. He runs quite a ways until he stumbles upon a large barbed–wire fence surrounding the
farm. This is where he and Shmuel, the boy in the stripped pajamas, meet for the first time.
Although separated by a fence, the boys talk and joke and get to know each other. A whistle blows
and Shmuel must go, but the new friends say they hope to meet again soon. As weeks go by, Bruno
continues to sneak away from the compound and the two new friends meet time and again. Bruno
usually brings snacks and Shmuel speedily eats what he is given. Bruno is very curious about his
new friend and continues to ask him questions about his life on the farm; he asks why they wear
pajamas all day, and what the numbers on them mean. Shmuel tells him "because the soldiers took

then, in 1541, discovered that Galen's research had been based upon animal rather than human
anatomy
Galen was often dissecting oxen or Barbary macaques, a species of monkeys, and only examined
human bodies during surgery before Vesalius pointed out Galen's substitution of animal rather than
human anatomy, this glaring error had gone unnoticed
25–year old Vesalius demonstrated to students at his lectures how wrong Galen had been by rigging
up human skeletons and skeletons of Barbary macaques
–the exquisite quality of his charts made him so famous that in 1539, criminal court judge of Padua
made bodies of cadavers, or executed criminals, available to him
–this enabled him to be able to perform repeated & comparative dissections of humans
Published "De humani corporis fabrica" (On the Fabric/Structure of the Human Body) in 1543– 7
volume work based on human anatomy and dissection, contained 273 anatomical illustrations, &
dedicated to King Charles V
Believed to be illustrated by Titian's pupil Jan Stephen van Calcar, but highly unlikely that single
artist created 273 illustrations in short time period

Andreas Vesalius Accomplishments

  • 1. Andreas Vesalius Accomplishments "I strive that in public dissection the students do as much as possible so that even the least trained of them must dissect a cadaver before a group of spectators, he will be able to perform it accurately with his own hands; and by comparing their studies one with another they will properly understand, this part of medicine." – Andreas Vesalius, In these next paragraphs I will prove to you how smart and intelligent of a man Andreas Vesalius was. Andreas Vesalius was born December 31, 1514 in Brussels, Habsburg, Netherlands. His parents are Isabel Crabbe and Andries Van Wesel. As a kid Andreas loved the dismemberment of animals. His spouse was Anne Van Hamme. They had one daughter together and named her Anne. Andreas's grandpa received ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One major achievement was finding the modern day human anatomy. Along with all of this he also had many books published. One of his most important books was the "De Humani Corporis Fabrica" which was a huge progress for science. This book proved that the idea of men and women having different amount of ribs was wrong. This book also made him a royal physician after it was shown to the Holy Roman Emperor. It also proved that many of Galen's findings were wrong. In 1541, Andreas realized Galen's research was based of animal dissections due to human dissection being in banned in Ancient Rome. He would dissect Barbary Macaques because it was closest to the man body structure. Andreas had many scientific findings in the skeletal system, muscular system, vascular and circulatory systems, nervous system, abdominal organs, and the heart. Vesalius's work was part of one the earliest health programs. The Council of Doges in Venice. They responded to the bubonic plague. University of Padua devoted themselves to figure out more. • 2. A Comparison of The Perfect Storm Movie and Novel Essay A Comparison of The Perfect Storm Movie and Novel The Perfect Storm is a novel written by Sebastian Junger, that retells the horrific story of fishermen and sailors who were caught in the eye of the worst storm in history. The book mainly focuses on the Andrea Gail, a swordfishing boat, with a crew of 6 men, who disappeared without a trace deep into the northern atlantic sea. In the year 2000, almost 10 years after the tragic event took place, a motion picture, perfectly titled, The Perfect Storm which was based on the novel was released. There were subtle to few changes in the plot line of the story, however there were many differences among the book and movie. The movie is very intact with the plot and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movie didn`t portray an important aspect, when the Andrea Gail was replacing and upgrading its gears in the beginning, but the book did. That played a key role in why the Andrea Gail was caught in the storm in the first place. The ice machine had broken down leaving the crew with no choice but to return home, which meant heading into the storm, otherwise the fish they had worked so hard to catch would spoil, making a whole waste of the trip. There were also details within the book that offered much enlightment about the sea, the life of a fisherman, how a person dies, and storms, yet the movie failed to offer that. That`s just one more argument for the debate of whether its better to read the book or watch the movie. There were certain plots that took place in the movie, but wasn`t mentioned in the book, if not then it was only briefly brought about. When the 6 men were out in the bar drinking and partying the night before they were off to sea once again, the book mentioned only briefly about Murph, one of the crewmen, ?he has an ex–wife Debra, and a three–year–old baby, also named Dale, whom he openly adores?. In the movie, it showed Murph and his son, who wasn`t three years old, but older, in the movie, bonding that last night. However, the book never mentioned this event taking place. • 3. Andreas Vesalius Research Paper Andreas Vesalius was a Renaissance Physician who revolutionized the way we look at anatomy. He transformed the study of biology and the practice of medicine by reevaluating the human body. Past physicians had given believable but incorrect knowledge about the human anatomy. His work was seen as being against the church which proposed a big challenge for Vesalius due to the fact that at this time the church had a lot of power. He was called a Renaissance Physician because he was a physician during the time of the "rebirth" or the "enlighten age" which was a period in time in which society and scholars thought that we should begin to fix the way we live. It was a time of advancement in every field including art, agriculture, science and many more. This led to many people questioning things that other saw as facts, and led to a time of testing and hypothesizing. This is the age in which the scientific method created and used. Galen based most of his ideas of the human anatomy on that of the anatomy of animals which he had dissected. He believed that they were relatively the same, which could not be more incorrect. In 1940, forensic psychology took another big step forward, when the courts deemed an expert witness should be based on the expert's knowledge versus the type of degree they possessed ("Forensic Psychologist – Psychology Jobs in Forensic Psychology, by AlleyDog.com," n.d.). Between 1940 and 1960, forensic psychology remained stagnant and did not become completely recognized for matters concerning mental illness in the courts until Jenkins vs. United States in 1962 (Dye, n.d.). It was not until 1991, that specific guidelines for forensic psychology were developed and published by the Committee on Special Guidelines for forensic psychology (American Psychological Association, 2012). In 2001, forensic psychology became and medically accepted as a sub–discipline with psychology by the American Psychology Association ("Forensic Psychologist – Psychology Jobs in Forensic Psychology, by AlleyDog.com," n.d.). A forensic psychologist could work for the courts, police, prosecutors, defendants, prisons, or in civil matters like child custody hearings. Forensic psychology is a recognized specialty that requires education not only in psychology, but legal knowledge (like courtroom procedures, case law, and mental health law). These clues are the most direct in the story, they take traits directly from vampire folk lore and superimpose them on Mang Minno. Mang Minno's attitude and aura are both also similar to that of a vampires; rather vile and dark. His aura is well illustrated with the following examples: His voice is described as having an unsettling effect on Roman: "The bitterness of his voice touched me like fingers of the dead" (81). This simile, referring to the dead, shows that Roman may subconsciously be aware of what Mang Minno is. After all, vampires are regarded as not being truly alive, but being life forces of the deceased. Mang Minno's eyes are described as "glowing" (90), when Roman sees him from the boat he is riding with Aurora (Mang Minno's daughter). Mang Minno's attitude is also illustrated by way of the disdainful comments he makes about church: In church, does it ever seem to you a kind of game? Hypocritical. Be humble, they say, yet people come in their best clothes. Give penance, yet as they close their eyes and kneel, they compare who is better dressed, the beauty of someone else's wife, the sway of her hips, they think of anything but prayers. (96) This attitude is vile and dark, which Roman sees. It also fits in with the accounts of Mang Minno being a devil worshiper, he would obviously be against God and churches. Summary Of Andreas Vesalius The Fabric Of The Human Body In the publication of the book "The Fabric Of The Human Body" an Italian surgeon, Andreas Vesalius, included many drawings of the human body, most of which went against Galen's theory of opposites. In 1661 a lecturer in theoretical medicine at the university of Bologna, Marcello Malpighi, had used the setting sun and a lense to look into a dried frog's lung, and was the first recorded scientist to have used a microscope to observe capillaries through flesh. William Harvey published a book, all 52 pages written entirely in Latin, arguing that blood does not flow through the body in random places and at random times, but instead is systematically pumped to specific places in the body in a continuous cycle. He showed dedication by disproving many discoveries that were taught and believed for many years before him, though even with the difficulty of convincing others that his discoveries were true, he published his findings. • 11. Young Godman Brown Principle Of Faith Principle of Faith Young Godman Brown is a prime example of the dark romantism and illustrates in a very straightforward way a principle of faith. Nathaniel Hawthorne was an American novelist of the beginning of the 19th century. At one point in life, he discovered the true about his father he thought to be deeply religious man of pure heart. John Hathorne was not only a judge involved in witch trial he also never repented for his actions. His novel Young Godman Brown is clearly a deeply personal reaction to this revelation. Godman is an ordinary man, same as every other American, leading a rightful life that would get him to heaven. He is married to a woman aptly named Faith that represents not only purity of his whole world but also his way to heaven, his belief in the goodness in everyone and the faith itself. It's almost night and Godman sets to a mysterious journey, leaving his wife alone for an unknown, important but evil errand. The distance between Young Godman and faith, both literally and figuratively, grows with every line. It starts with his wife's nightmare: "as if a dream had warned her what work is to be done tonight" and her fears, continue with a parting kiss and a longing, worried gaze. Art of Love The Art of Love Framing for a Misogynist The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the contemporary social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social activities, proper style, women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid's perspective, there are three different ways to consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a beautiful treasure, and as a means to assert social status. Comparatively, Andreas Capellanus writes in a way that makes women seem respected, worthy and as something to a man would willingly devote his life to. The view Ovid takes on women is not always clear. In some passages he has a violent perspective on women. Ovid writes about how he easily could have taken advantage of women, displaying a negative viewpoint of ownership towards females. Similarly he says "never a virgin there was free from the lust of a hand", which shows that men desire women, and a virgin is held as a high prize, one that is worth committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89–126). On the other end, Capellanus views the trophy of virginity as futile and counters that while you know "some other man is enjoying the embraces of your beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the more" (2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the argument against adultery, again opposing the views of Ovid. Capellanus explains his argument in detail by stating that a man in love is adorned "with the virtue of chastity, because he who shines with the light of one love can hardly think of embracing another woman, even a beautiful one" (1.4, 2). Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his tenderness, Ovid shares his heart, saying, "do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses; do not think it a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet" (Art 2. 522–553) . This is simply an outstanding statement, as it serves to show the true emotion and character of Ovid. This statement cannot be taken lightly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. The Aspects Of Medieval Courtly Love In The Middle Ages Knights in armor, damsels in distress, heroic quests, masquerade balls–this was the essence of romance in the Middle Ages. In medieval European literature, love is for the nobility, chivalrous, and virtuous. Andreas Capellanus defined courtly love as "Love is a certain inborn suffering derived from the sight of and excessive meditation upon the beauty of the opposite sex, which causes each one to wish above all things the embraces of the other and by a common desire to carry out all of love's precepts in the other's embraces." Capellanus 28) In other words love and suffering go hand– in–hand, much like modern love. Capellanus gives the "Rules of Love" (1) governing how men and women should behave in relationships. Compared to the modern–day idea of love, courtly love rarely had a happy ending. Before the 18th century, marriages were usually business arrangements that brought material advantages for everyone involved. Romance in the Middle Ages was mainly combined with Chivalry. Many physicians based their findings primarily through intuitive thinking and ancient philosophers. The primary reason I chose this topic is because I love the anatomy and knowing all the organs, body parts, and the way the body functions. After my aunt was diagnose with type 2 diabetes, I had a strong desire to know, how could this be? I thought, "Why not know the history behind it and the science itself. What exactly caused it? But we never understand how hard it is for some people, specially the ones with impairments and how much one needs to struggle to have someone in their lives who loves them unconditionally. I completely disagree with the limitations of age to love. I think someone can fall in love when they are fifty and also when they are fifteen. For example, my aunt was unmarried till she was fifty two. She just never found someone who she loved deeply but she continued to look for love. But at the age of fifty two, she met her husband and they fell in love. So, I do not think that age should be a factor in love. I think a person can fall in love at any time in their lives. And as far as excess of passion is concerned, I feel that for some people, one woman/man is never enough and they still might continue to love more than one person. I think it is okay for a person to constantly shift lovers as long as they find someone who they can love forever and then spend the rest of their life with that person. Interviewee 2 from Jaipur, India : First of all, I think that people feel love differently. I disagree with him when he says that blind people cannot love. I know of many blind people who are in love. I think they feel love more strongly. This is maybe ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Andreas Vesalius Andreas Vesalius I. Biography Andreas Vesalius was born on Dec. 31, 1514, in Brussels, the son of Andries van Wesele and his wife, Isabel Crabbe. Vesalius's paternal ancestors, who hailed from the German town of Wesel, came to Brussels in the early 15th century and became prominent as physicians and pharmacists. His father served as pharmacist to Margaret of Austria and later to Emperor Charles V. His great– grandfather, Johannes Wesalia, was the head of the medical school at the University of Louvain, where Vesalius started his medical studies in 1530. He matriculated as Andres van Wesel de Bruxella. In 1533 Vesalius transferred to the medical school of the University of Paris. One of his two teachers of anatomy there was Johann ... The real significance of the book attempt to support his arguments by the location and continuity of the venous system from his observations rather than appeal to earlier published works. With this novel approach to the problem of venesection, Vesalius posed the then striking hypothesis that anatomical dissection might be used to test speculation. The second edition of the Fabrica, in 1555, contained many improvements on the first, but in retrospect it was also a disappointment. One wonders about the new course medicine might have taken, had Vesalius dedicated himself completely to the cause of anatomical research. Some time after the accession of Philip II to the imperial throne, Vesalius became again one of the imperial physicians. Vesalius's absence from medical schools showed itself in his Examination of Gabriele Fallopio's Anatomic Observations (1561), in which he had to avoid passing judgment on a number of points in Fallopio's book because he had no way of verifying them. It is a moot question whether Vesalius used a pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1564 as a pretext to leave Spain and the imperial court. Some claimed that he went to the Holy Land to study medicinal plants on the plains of Jericho, a topic on which he is known to have discoursed on his way there. Vesalius might have very well made the pilgrimage out of devotion, as did many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. Essay about Architectural Forms in the Mannerist Period During the Mannerist period, architects experimented with using architectural forms to emphasize solid and spatial relationships. The Renaissance ideal of harmony, gave way to freer and more imaginative rhythms. During the High Renaissance, architectural concepts derived from classical ancient times were developed, and used with bigger surety. The most representative architect is Bramante (1444–1514), who expanded the applicability of classical architecture to contemporary buildings in a style that was to control Italian architecture in the sixteenth century. During the Mannerist period, however, architects experimented with using architectural forms to stress on solid and spatial relationships. Specifically, in Mannerist architecture, ... Romano was also a highly inventive designer, working for Federico II Gonzaga at Mantua on the Palazzo Te (1524–1534), a project which combined his skills as architect, sculptor, and painter. In this work, which integrated garden grottoes and extensive frescoes, he uses illusionistic effects, surprising combinations of architectural form and texture, and the frequent use of features that seem somewhat unbalanced or out of alignment. Michelangelo's architectural fame lies chiefly in St Peter's Basilica in Rome. St Peter's was "the greatest creation of the Renaissance," and a great number of architects contributed their skills to it. But at its conclusion there was more of Michelangelo's design than of any other architect. When he took over the project in 1546 Michelangelo integrated Bramante's Greek–cross plan and redesigned the piers, the walls, and the dome, giving the lower weight–bearing members huge proportions and eliminating the encircling aisles from the chancel and identical transept arms. Michelangelo's dome was a masterpiece of design using two masonry shells, one within the other and crowned by a massive lantern supported, as at Florence on ribs .For the exterior of the building, he designed a giant order which defines every external bay. Medicine was based on, mostly, the teachings of Hipocrates before Galenus which proved even less reliable but still laid a sturdy foundation for medicine ("Anatomy", Florkin). Although Vesalius found many inaccuracies in Galenus' work, his own work contained many as well. Which, over time, were corrected as well. Before Vesalius research was soley abstract based or based on observations of other mammals and cutting into cadavers was prohibited (Florkin, "Turney"). Now, surgeries, which require cutting, save lives every day. Without Vesalius the advancements in anatomy and physiology would be less progressed. Vesalius' efforts have not gone ignored. In the context of this novel, he was the purest good in this ship, which could also be seen as a microcosm of the world as it was. Billy as a whole is seen mainly as a man without fault. He could do no wrong in his world, because he is the personification of all that is good. This makes his one flaw, that being his stutter, the perfect aspect of his being to show us of the dangers of innocence. The fact that he cannot bring words out to defend himself against the malice tossed at him because his very being will not allow him to even comprehend that there are people in the world with such ill intent. Ill intent does not exist to him, and it ultimately proved to be his undoing. As if almost a flip of a coin, Claggart can be seen as the complete opposite than that of Billy. An ugly man, in both the figurative and literal sense, Claggart's innate malice is without cause or limit. • 35. Lord Of The Flies Character Analysis Lord of the Flies is able to display the shared defect of evil that all people have. Multiple conflicts throughout the novel bring out the evil characteristics of all the boys on the island. William Golding portrays the boys as a symbol of youth and innocence when they land on the island, then he shows that they progressively lose their innocence as the evil is brought out in all of them. As Jack and Ralph have a constant struggle for power, they influence the other boys in their loss of youth by dividing and fighting. Through the conflicts between Jack and Ralph, Golding shows that evil is an inevitable defect found in all human beings. Jack's obsession of hunting and killing a pig leads to evil sprouting inside him. Being the leader of the choir, he was able to convince the hunters in helping him fulfill his obsession and disobey Ralph's orders of keeping the fire going. As Jack details the kill, Golding writes that Jack speaks "proudly, and yet twitched" (69). The use of Jack twitching is a sign of the sinister joy that he finds in killing, and is proud to be the one that did the killing to hopefully win their loyalty. The hunters realize what they had done through Jack's thoughts of the "knowledge that had come to them when they closed in on the struggling pig, knowledge that they had outwitted a living thing, imposed their will upon it, taken away its life like a long satisfying drink" (Golding 70).
