1. Who would be the audience for your
media product?
• The audience I intend my media product to appeal to is more the rock side of my
audience and this is because I have included bands in the contents and on the
front page that people more interested in this genre would be interested in. If my
magazine reaches this area I think it would do well as most magazines containing
or focusing on this genre are widely shared and appreciated by the members of
that group.
• An example of the audience I am trying to reach would be Dan Mellar, he is in full
time education, plays the guitar and has been into rock music for a long time
favouring older bands but still liking newer rock bands that are emerging, bands he
is into include Royal Blood, Pretty Reckless, Metallica, Bring Me The Horizon and
others similar to these bands and this is the audience I am trying to appeal to so I
think Dan would be interested in what my magazine has to offer. He is also in the
age range I am catering more towards that being 16-30 as I believe this is an age
range of the people most devoted to following music especially my genre.
2. • UK tribes has also given me potential audiences for my magazine these being:
• Young Alts:
"Young Alts are the Tribe for young people who ‘want out’ of the mainstream. It’s an entry-level Tribe, with equal split between
the sexes, and members share an inquisitiveness for everything Alternative – from Grunge to Hard-core.“
• Hard-core:
"Though Hard-core is a new addition to UK Tribes (it’s only recently regained sufficient momentum to genuinely warrant
inclusion), this Tribe has its roots in the punk rock scene, originating in LA in the late 1970s. California’s Black Flag are often
referred to as the godfathers of Hard-core.
The ethos of the Tribe resolves around two core values – self-expression and individuality. Hard-core Kids are passionate about
the Hard-core sound, a screaming genre of punk with severe tempo changes, double bass in the drums, and dirty chords from the
guitarists (heavily distorted, tapping into any feedback and harmonic noises available!) Tribe members will actively support
independent record shops and local, homegrown bands."
• Indie scenesters:
"Indie Scenesters are dedicated to finding the newest music, exploring all avenues to get there – online, print, record shops, club
nights and word of mouth. Staying ahead of the curve is a must, but it’s borne out of a genuine love for music – and this is what
separates them from those more fickle dabblers and dilettantes, the Hipsters. For Indie Scenesters, there’s nothing better than
discovering new artists and spreading the love.
Guitar music has seen its cool usurped by the rise in electronic-synth based music in recent years, and Indie Scenesters have
broadened their musical tastes as a result. It’s no longer just about indie rock bands like Vampire Weekend – Indie Scenesters have
embraced experimental, genre-blending artists like Four Tet. Yet, the Indie Scenester approach remains the same – it’s about
championing independent artists rather than a specific genre, especially before the masses get in on the act."
