3. Nasogastric Tube Insertion
The following are the only steps you should perform

1- checks for the wider nostril
2 - Measure the length of NG tube to be inserted by placing the tip of the
tube at the nostril and extending the tube behind the ear and then to two
finger breadths above the umbilicus.
3-- Lubricate the tip of the NG tube with K-Y jelly, do Semi- flexion of
the patient's neck
4.- Insert the NG tube, Ask the patient to swallow
5-. Advance the tube through the pharynx and esophagus and into the
stomach till the mark
6- Inject 20 ml of air into the tube and listen over the epigastrium with
the stethoscope
7. fix the Nasogastric tube

2. 4. Male Catheterization

1- Position Flat on the couch with legs apart and groin exposed
2- lubrication: insert10 cc of gel directly inside the urethralopening ,
while holding the penis vertically by 2 fingers
3-- insert the catheter till the bifurcation while holding the penis
vertically
4- check for urineoutput
5-- inflate the balloon with 10-15 cc distilled water or saline
1. Position: Flat with knees flexed, hips abducted and externally rotated with heals as
much as possibletouching the buttocks. (lithotomy position/ normal labour position )
2 Disinfection: by betadine soaked dressing from the clitoris one way downwards.
3- - lubrication: coat the tip of the catheter with gel and one drop over the clitoris
4- Opens both labia with non-dominanthand
5- a. insert the 1/2 of the catheter
b. check for urine output
c. inflate the balloon by 10-15 cc saline or distilled water
