EVALUATION QUESTION

2. THINGS WE COULD HAVE IMPROVED
ON IN OUR PRELIMINARY TASK.
Lack of movement in the camera.
Too much background noise.
Small selection of shots.
Dull titles.
‘Jerky’ camera movement.
3. LACK OF MOVEMENT IN THE CAMERA.
To resolve our lack of
camera movement , we
introduced a much wider
range of shots, with much
more dynamic movement
such as:
- A crab around the car.
- Dolly out down the
hallway when everyone
is walking down it.
- Tilting and panning
when the car pulls in.
- Zooming in when James
is talking.
4. LACK OF MOVEMENT IN THE CAMERA.
These shots and many others are examples of shots in our preliminary
task that were completely still and didn’t move at all. When looking
back at our prelim we realised that this was not good at all and that
we had to change it and get some more movement in our shots, so
while filming our coursework we made sure we had many shots with
plenty of movement, such as…
5. LACK OF MOVEMENT IN THE CAMERA.
This shot was a crab around the
car, the shot was moving the
entire time.
6. LACK OF MOVEMENT IN THE CAMERA.
This is a dolly out down a corridor,
again
7. TOO MUCH BACKGROUND NOISE.
To reduce our amount of background noise, we
checked regularly that the sound was all in order and
also shot in a much more accommodating setting
which had much more suited acoustics for our film.
8. TOO MUCH BACKGROUND NOISE.
To reduce our amount of background noise, we
checked regularly that the sound was all in order and
also shot in a much more accommodating setting
which had much more suited acoustics for our film.
11. TOO MUCH BACKGROUND NOISE.
• As you can see, the second image had many more
facilities which absorbed the soundwaves. This
means that any background noise was reduced
vastly and got took care of any buzzing or mic
static that occurred.
12. SMALL SELECTION OF SHOTS.
To increase our selection of shots, we paid particular
attention to mise-en-scene and we were constantly
ensuring we had a wide enough range of shots, these
included:
- A crab
- A dolly
- Shot/Reverse shots
- Close-ups
13. DULL TITLES.
To make our titles more interesting we spent more time
on the editing of the titles and paid more attention to
the motion and colour of them such as:
-A title that rolls up with a tilt.
-Golden text to represent ‘The Golden Age’
14. This title from our
preliminary task was static
on the screen.
15. This title from our
preliminary task was static
on the screen.
After looking back at this we
found that this was not an
effective way to display
titles.
16. This title from our
preliminary task was static
on the screen.
After looking back at this we
found that this was not an
effective way to display
titles.
This title rolled up with the shot to
match the movement of the shot.
This title was motionless but we
counteracted it by giving a golden
appearance. However, we did feel that
we could have made this title more
dynamic, such as having it move up or
down.
17. ‘JERKY’ CAMERA MOVEMENT.
To make our camera movement more fluid and
smooth, we made sure whoever was operating the
camera would be extra careful and steady to make
our shots crisp and clean. We did, however, have one
unstable shot. The crab around the car, which was
handheld, was extremely uneven and jumpy due to
the fact that we did not possess a steady cam.

20. ‘JERKY’ CAMERA MOVEMENT.
As you can see, the height of these two shots are
very different, the second being a lot higher. This is
because the camera was handheld and so the shot
was very rough, we felt that we should have used a
more technical technique to try and reduce the
movement of the shot, but we didn’t have the
facilities to do this.
