1. The task for this post was to create a small
scene with certain shots and principles in
them. In addition, we had to add dialogue as
well as script it and story board our plan. We
had one tripod and a camera as our
equipment and were able to use props so for
example, my group used a folder and a bag
as out main props.
2.
3. This is when the camera maintains on the line of
action and should not be crossed in the sake of
continuity if people are having a conversation, if
crossed it would disorientate the audience.
We used this rule in the dialogue scene it was
extremely effective in making the scene flow as it
showed body language and hand gestures from the
different views.
Using this principle also allowed us to introduce as
well as seeing the character leave the shot as we
are left content with the information given to us
in the view point such as the plot of why the
character is in the situation.
4. This is a technique used in film
editing. It is a cut that connects two
different views of the same action, at
the same moment in the movement.
We used this technique twice as there
were two doors the main protagonist
had to open. This was an effective
shot as it smoothly introduced a new
location to the audience as well as
engaging the audience from a
different perspective however
keeping them informed.
5. This is an alternating shot, typically of two characters in a
dialogue sequence.
This shot was also very effective as it showed the talking
character as well as clearly illustrating their facial
expressions, provides continuity in conversation with
characters filmed at eye-level. It is meant to immerse
audiences in the dialogue
6. One thing I have learnt from completing
this task is one of the main principles of filming
which is called the 180 degree rule. This is when
you film on an invisible line and it should not be
crossed, in the interest of continuity.
The second thing I learnt was how to edit clips. I
was also able to use new software called Adobe
Premiere to do this and learnt the basics such
as, importing footage and cutting clips to make
a short sequence. In the future I hope to learn
new skills for instance adding sound.
7. One improvement I would do differently is
finish all of the filming in one day. As you can
see from our piece below we had learnt that we
had broken the 180 degree rule, meaning we
had to go back on another day and re film.
While doing this we found certain problems that
ruined the continuity of the piece such as
costume, light and location. However, our
group have learnt from these mistakes and will
hope to apply the improvements on our next
filming piece of work.
