The Case  A 2-years old boy admitted to Sulaymaniyah Teaching Hospital, Sulaymaniyah, Iraq on 3rd of November 2009 with ingestion of a big metallic clip 2 hours prior to admission. The foreign body (FB) was visible in both frontal and lateral cervical X-rays. Rigid esophagoscopy under GA revealed the clip in the upper esophagus and extracted by FB forceps. The recovery was uneventful.
Comments  Foreign body ingestion is common both in children and adults.  Removal of esophageal FBs is usually performed by means of rigid esophagoscopy. FB removal should be done urgently to avoid the potential complications.  Esophageal FBs as well as rigid esophagoscopy are associated with significant morbidity. Perforation of the esophagus may occur if the procedure is carried out by inexpert operators.

  • 2. The Case  A 2-years old boy admitted to Sulaymaniyah Teaching Hospital, Sulaymaniyah, Iraq on 3rd of November 2009 with ingestion of a big metallic clip 2 hours prior to admission. The foreign body (FB) was visible in both frontal and lateral cervical X-rays. Rigid esophagoscopy under GA revealed the clip in the upper esophagus and extracted by FB forceps. The recovery was uneventful.

  • 7. Comments  Foreign body ingestion is common both in children and adults.  Removal of esophageal FBs is usually performed by means of rigid esophagoscopy. FB removal should be done urgently to avoid the potential complications.  Esophageal FBs as well as rigid esophagoscopy are associated with significant morbidity. Perforation of the esophagus may occur if the procedure is carried out by inexpert operators.
