1. Evaluation
The task was to create a two minutes insert for the CWC magazine show and we had to
use single camera technique. Our tutor put us into groups of 3-4 and we began making
our insert. In this task I worked with Eyyaz and Jordon W.
We also had to consider that the scenario because we had to prove that the clip is going
to be informative, educational and entertain people. The target audience were the same
people as ourselves. For example sex, race and ethnicity did not matter a lot for our case.
What mattered were the age and the social group of the majority of the audience and we
had to consider what they like while making the insert and the magazine show as well.
What we did good that made me pleased with our project was that we planned the
shots, location, and the equipment for each shooting and we were organised. This kept
the speed and the momentum up. We used graphics and humorous music that would
appeal to our target audience.
Planning the equipment was less hassle because we almost had everything we needed
like cameras, SD cards and camera supports like tripods. This saved us time and we had
to worry less about equipment.
My responsibility for this insert was to add the graphics, because it increases the
attraction for our target audience and it was helping for the story. For example the
speech bubble add a bit of entertainment and humor. And also in some parts it gives
more detail to the viewer and it helps them understand the story abit more. I did a bit of
filming as well and I helped my groupd toward carrying the props
In order to create the required insert we straight went to think about the elements we
are struggling with and we started our energy getting them right. For example we knew
that we can make our insert humorous and entertaining but we needed to spend more
time thinking about how to make it educational and informative.
That was the reason we decided to make an advert because they do nothing but inform
people about something. The story that we thought of has some education as well so we
also covered that requirement.
Things went wrong for us from the beginning because we didn’t follow one very
important aspect of the project which was to use single camera. The reason this
happened was that we didn’t read the brief that was given to each of us properly.
We inserted unnecessary parts in our clip which meant loosing time. For example it was
clear that we did not need a ending credit for the insert. But we didn’t consider
something like this so we had to go back and spend more time and energy removing it
which decreases the efficiency.
The sound adjustments on the first edit was not balanced properly and there are parts
where you cannot hear the characters properly and at the end it was too loud. The
sound effect was also very loud and unbalanced compared to the overall loudness
through the clip. We knew that we had to sort out this issue but we didn’t do it since we
had to plan the show and we ticked the insert as competed which was wrong, we needed
to spend a bit of time on it.
