The idea behind this project is to use the existing GSM infrastructure. So, all the operations involve the GSM system also. As we send any SMS, it goes through the GSM system. Any sent SMS can be received if we use a SIM card and GSM module. To operate any GSM modem, we have to use the AT commands to operate them. For example, if any SMS arrives the GSM modem sends the serial data in ASCII format. We can read these data if we connect the modem with the serial port of the microcontroller at the baud rate of 9600. As the microcontroller comes to know that a SMS has been arrived, it can sent a proper AT command to read the SMS. The reading of SMS returns the mobile number of sender, the time and much more information. We have to select the SMS part of the message. The starting string of the SMS is used as the password. As the password is matched, then the SMS arrival is assumed to be valid by the microcontroller otherwise, it ignores the SMS. 2. Reasons for choosing this project
Objective of this project is to control home/industry
electrical appliances and fire detection from remote
area.
There are many home wireless based devices for
controlling processes, but they are more expensive.

The main aim of this project is to
develop a system based on Embedded micro
controller ,which is used for controlling
electrical appliances in home or industry and
fire detection using GSM.
4. CURRENT SCENARIO
The healthy person is able to sense multiple aspects of
a fire including the heat, flames.
For this reason, most fire alarm systems are designed
with one or more manual alarm activation devices to
be used by the person who discovers a fire.
In this system we can remotely control the devices.
5. PROPOSED SCENARIO
we are going to not only control the devices but also
providing fire sensor for fire detection and effective
control of electrical power to the apparatus, machines
from remote place.
Whenever a fire accident happens in the home or
industry the fire sensor senses the fire
This is the project make use of modern communication

20. WORKING PRINCIPLE
At the transmitter side, the user sends an SMS to the
GSM modem using AT commands indicating which
device is to be controlled.
At the receiver side, Microcontroller controls the
devices through TRIAC’s depending on the code
received by the GSM modem.
When Fire occurs then the load is going to switch OFF
automatically and information send to the user through
the SMS.
22. DISADVANTAGES
If the microcontroller fails, then it leads to catastrophe.
User can make mistake while typing the message
format.
23. APPLICATIONS
It is useful in time maintenance applications.
Remote device control
Detection of flame, gas breaks and water spills.
To run any electrical and electronic appliances easily.
It is used in electrical sub stations to switch ON/OFF
the power supply without using man power.
24. CONCLUSION
We develop a general purpose electronic circuit design
that can control and monitor a variety of home
appliances and fire sensor with interface that can be
plugged into GSM modem.
The system can automatically switch ON and OFF the
devices remotely using SMS.
25. FUTURE SCOPE
Right now we have designed the project for control of
two devices but it can be designed for more number of
devices.
It can be further expanded with a voice interactive
system facility.
A feedback system can also be included which provides
the state of a device (whether it is on/off) to the remote
user.
