 To elaborate the merits of Viva-voca.
 To explain the demerits of Viva-Voca.

Viva-Voce:-
Introduction:-
It is a evaluative process of students for
both practical and theoretical portion of course.
Definition
It consist of a dialogue between the examiner and a
student where the examiner asks question and the
students replies.
Purposes:-
 To assess student ability to communicate with
another person.
 To supplement the information obtained
through other evaluation techniques.
 To use stimulation methods like role play and
telephone conversation.
 To identify and analyse the students presence
of mind
 To evaluate the student spontaneity and
mannerism.
 To acquire soundness of knowledge through
various forms of question.

To discuss the
principles
To elaborate
the merits of
viva voca.
 To diagnose the student limitation and
weakness and take remedial action.
Principles
 It should not be related to single topic but
covers a range of different issues.
 Examiners should talk as little as possible
during the viva.
 When the last question asked allow the
students to complete his answer and end the
session formally.
 It should not be exceeds 30 minutes.
 Candidate should be examined individually.
 Candidate should be given adequate notice of
the possibility of being called to attend a viva
and this should normally not be less than 24
hours.
Merits:-
 Provide direct contact with the candidate to
assess theircommunication, presentation
skills and overall impression.
 Provides opportunity to mitigate
circumstances into accounts.
 Provide flexibility in moving the candidates
form strong to weak points.

the demerits
of viva voca.
 Make students formulate replies without cues
and the reaction is observed for a specific
stimulus.
 Facilitates simultaneous assessment by two or
more examiners.
 Provide an opportunity for the examiner to
get feedback on the performance or the
students and the university.
Demerits
 Lacks standardization, objectivity and
reproducibility of the result.
 Permits favoritism and cannot be used for
future references.
 Suffers from undue influence of irrelevant
factors.
 Costly in terms of professional time.
