Social Benefits Of Video Games
Video games have been around since 1950s and have gone a long way from what they are today. They are in no doubt a big part of our society and
with doing so they have been criticized by many. Video games come in different categories which include: action, racing, adventure, role–playing,
simulation, strategy, and sports. The purpose of these games can be casual, serious, art, Christian, and educational. You can play these games on
different types of platforms as well to make it the gamers preference. In today's society, it is common for one to play video games. Some people
play causally and some play professional to make money. Even though, video games are now mainstream, they are still being stigmatized and it has
been like that since the creation of them. Some people see video games as a waste of time and that they are unproductive, but after being studied
thoroughly by researchers that is not true; video games are known to have benefits. It can help children with development and it can help adults
perform better at their job. It can also help people with different disorders. Video games should not be stigmatized because of the advantages ranging
from cognitive to social benefits for children, people with disabilities, and adults. The social benefit that gaming has is a way to interact better with
others and allows for an alternative way to learn. Runescape, a well–known Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (MMORPG), has affected
the lives of many people because of

Prosecution in the Virtual World
Many online gamers will pay for virtual items with real money. Some people want laws in effect for the real world to protect their rights to their
belongings. Theft in the virtual world occurs quite often. In an article titled, "Should Gamers be Prosecuted for Virtual Stealing?" the author Alex
Weiss calls out a young teenage boy who is being prosecuted for stealing in a videogame. It seems to be a legal blunder that is very straight forward,
but becomes a heated debate. It begins with the argument should we prosecute a gamer for stealing via the virtual world? Alex Weiss is correct in
saying that prosecution for virtual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If this were to become legal, it would someday bring people to "sue" their co–worker for too much talking or some other non–existent crime. If some
choose to spend their time unproductively, would they not expect to be compensated for such types of loses?
While some people see turning to the law for in–game crimes, they fail to realize that video games have their own ways of punishment, so the actual
physical prosecution should not be necessary. Weiss observes how games like World of Warcraft will strictly punish their gamers for theft, scamming,
and vulgar language. He says, "Violators can be banned and victims' lost goods are refunded." Weiss then goes on to point out how in
EVE will actually encourage players to have a behavior of piracy to give them a sense of pride. (729) There are many different games with different
styles of engagement and how the game is to be played. To have a universal punishment for these crimes seems unfair and unfit. In spirit video gamers
build their video games from the start of nothing, laying out the rules and all the abilities of the game. The chances of being able to steal in the virtual
world without hacking is nearly impossible.
Physical prosecution for virtual theft may be providing justice for the theft committed yet providing injustice on a law abiding citizen. Video games
make it very easy to steal in, so what will happen when a non–criminal citizen takes the opportunity to do so

The Role Of Playing Game ( Mmorpg )
Runescape is one of the first massive multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) that many gamers have started with. Released in 2001,
there were no games like it out there for its time. For many of us gamers, Runescape was the beginning of an amazing journey. The game was free to
play on your web browser, no download necessary. Once your account was created you were able to start your adventure in the exploration of
Runescape, there is no better game you can get lost in. Runescape is the missing piece of achievement, adventure, and connection that you are
searching for. The concept of the game was revolutionary from the questing to the combat system. Players would have complete control on what
they wanted to do. There was a ray of activities such as what type of combat, crafting, merchanting, cooking, mining, hunting, and many others.
With each milestone you hit a player would feel a sense of accomplishment. The longer it took to reach that goal the more satisfying it was. This
sense of achievement was what all of us craved. For many players this system of gameplay at this level was never seen before. We were used to the
console games such as Zelda or Super Mario that had a set storyline to follow and a goal to reach, once completed the game was over. Unlike the
typical game of the time Runescape was a never ending story. There was always something to achieve and conquer within the game setting it apart
from Zelda and Super Mario. Each day there is always something

Summary: The Mask Wearer By Amos Darara
In America, kids are taught to read by sounds, how "the" sound, how each syllable is supposed to sound like however I was though differently,
since I was born in Canada. I am French Canadian and how we learned to read was by seeing the word and each word had a different picture of
them, for example, "mama" ,the word for mom in french, looks totally different than "papa",the word for dad. We were never forced to read
anything however during our break, while in class, we did not have anything to do except strategy games or reading books, so we end up reading
scary books or "go to a certain page "books. Before coming to America, I had never ever had to write a book report in my life. The stories I now
prefer is the one's that the main character increases in power over time and we can see that with experience, he grows stronger mentally and
physically. He also has to have a goal to achieve, enemies that provide challenges and outsmarting them and not just being overpowered. A story with
great character development enough that you are so close to the characters that if they would happen to die you would be crying inside. You will
cringe every single time... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the wearer of masks, the masks he has to find are very powerful artifacts, and there are 4 masks in total one for each element;fire, water, earth, and

The Gameplay Of The Xbox One
The Xbox One The Xbox One being the main competitor of the PS4 was launched in 2013, the consoles introductory price was ВЈ429 which was
much more that the PS4, the console once again include Xbox Live and has sold around 3 million units as of 2013, with 10 million units being
shipped over, the console increased the emphasis on cloud computing and the integration of entertainment applications and services, they did this
by offering players the ability to overlay live television programs for an existing box set and essentially use the console as a TV system as well as
a gaming system. Personal Computers PC's currently have the most optimized gaming platforms to date, the hardware of which is made commonly
by third party companies and can be integrated to then develop a computer to its best performance. In turn this allows the PC to reach higher frame
rates than an ordinary console can achieve, and also produces better graphics and other visuals. PC's include a very unique hardware development for
example the CPU's, Memory size and the GPU's are a lot more advanced than standard consoles. One of the main limitations that Personal Computers
have is the sheer price of the parts, PC's are expensive, and with the ability to constantly upgrade your system you can spend up to ВЈ2000 on a gaming
pc with high spec hardware, another issue is that PC's are not very portable due to the size of the overall system such as, the tower, the monitors, the

Can Students Have Too Much Tech By Susan Pinker Analysis
In the article "Can Students Have Too Much Tech?" Susan Pinker explains the pros and cons of technology in the classroom. Her argument is
supplemented by Studies from Duke University and Stanford University. She also utilized the history of the One Laptop per child nonprofit, along with
her own research and opinions.
Pinker uses the studies from Duke and a Stanford Professor's opinion to support her argument with evidence that can't be denied. The study from Duke
suggests a negative trend in student's Math and Reading scores that hits especially hard from the 5th to 8th grade. In my experience from the 5th to
8th grade I used my family's computer to play runescape and write emails to my extended relatives. Pinker supplements her theory with a similar
opinion from a Standford Professor. The Professor comes to the conclusion of an initial surge in engagement in studies with a sharp decline after little
time. This all summarizes to show a clear negative effect of students using the home computer. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Personal Reflection Of My Baseball : My Life Of Baseball
Baseball
When I was younger I was brought up watching the Green Bay Packers and the Milwaukee Brewers. My father would watch with much enthusiasm,
yelling and complaining about a lack of effort that caused an error on the baseball diamond. Football was always fun to watch and act out. I would run
around outside dipping and dodging my brothers just like the football players on TV. Howeverbaseball was where my natural talent and passion fell. I
grew intensely intrigued with the game. While most kids my age 7 or 8 were all in their room trying to be the best runescape player I would spend hours
on end playing outside playing in the dirt with a ball and a bat. My house had an oversized back yard, with a big red shed. That big red shed was the
backstop of my diamond I didn't use bases. I used whatever was lying around, gloves, garbage bags, or my shoes, usually the shirt I was wearing that
day would on up being first base. Most days I would play in my bare feet. There was something about the sharp grass and sand grinding in between
my toes that would make me want to play even harder and run even faster. That back yard was where I lived, I thrived there, just like in the movie
"The Sandlot". The difference was that I played with one player instead of 9. My favorite part of the sport was probably the baseball itself, a perfect
sphere with bright red threads that controlled where it was going to go. My typical summer day would consist of waking up and running outside, and

Should Gamers Be Prosecuted for Virtual Stealing
Summary: In this article a situation involving two parties is broken down and explained. First there is the victim who claims he was stolen from on a
virtual game called runescape. While the other party is the thief who is being charged with theft. The writer states his opinion throughout the piece and
makes it very apparent that this is childish. However the victim felt it was enough to take to federal court. The victim claims that the thief stole a
amulet and a sword from him in the game. The reason he feels he can take this 13 year old to court is because he invested money in the subscription
and also time to obtain the virtual currency to buy these items. The big issue with this case however is the fact that the thief used violent actions with
his virtual character to obtain the objects from the owner. The writer goes on to state that it is a virtual game and therefore nocrime was committed.
This case in the end concluded in court that the thief believes that it was a crime and sentences the 13 year old to 145 hours of community service.

To think that someone took the time and wasted the tax dollars to prosecute a 13 year old boy who stole a virtual shield and amulet from them? It is
a part of what games are is it not. You will have to face things like stealing and thievery like stated in the article. Also investing your money into this
non–asset does not make it worth anymore than what you are pending on it! You are choosing to throw your money into the game knowing that there
is no return. For myself though the biggest disappointment about this entire ordeal is that someone knew there was a possibility of being stolen from
in the game which I'm sure they did as well. But when it happened to them they decided that it was worth taking to court. It makes no sense at

Should Gamers Be Prosecuted For Virtual Stealing?
"Should Gamers Be Prosecuted for Virtual Stealing?" Summary, Reaction, and Response In 2012, the Dutch Supreme Court convicted a teenager of
"virtual theft." The defendant stole two items within the then–popular game Runescape. Although the defendant's attorney pointed out the neither items
even existed or had any real economic value, the court ruled that the time spent by the victim in the acquisition of these items within the game actually
gave them economic value. The author gives examples of similar behavior being not only allowed, but accepted within older, similar games. The author
argues that gamers should not be prosecuted for theft within games, assuming the stolen "object" has no economic value, and that cases like this one
"[make] no sense to [him]."
In my opinion, the alleged "thievery" was completely the fault of the victim. I am aware that in our society, blatantly blaming the victim for their
situation is very wrong, and in nearly every case, I agree with that belief. Here, however, there are only two ways that the "thievery" could have even
taken place: the victim was tricked, which is completely their fault, and non–refundable, or the perpetrator of the crime edited and or exploited the
script of the game. The second of which he should have been banned from the game for, not taken to a real–life court by an angry thirteen–year–old.
According to the article, the illegitimate acquisition of the stolen "objects" was not even in violation of Runescape's

The Game Destiny's Destiny: The Last City
The game Destiny is a First Person Roleplaying game that takes place in the future where humans are at the age of extinction due to a long war
fought against three alien races named the Vex, Fallen, and Hive. The war ends wielding no victor and heavy casualties on the human side as they are
forced to reside in what the game calls "The Last City". This game is set up to be a thrilling game, but upon playing the game it is found that the game
is much undeveloped. The game has little to no story, a very unbalanced multiplayer, a broken loot system, a time consuming leveling up system, and is
very repetitive. Destiny has little to no story, and according to Kevin VanOrd "Destiny wastes the opportunity to develop a mystery worth caring about,

Games should be fully developed before being released so that when a game is released it can satisfy the needs of those who play it. If a company can
do that then they can make more money than they will make on an unfinished product such as Destiny. In short a product that is finished will always be
better than a product that is not

Personal Statement : Motivation And Motivation Essay
Throughout my life, I have had many situations where I was put in a group and had to interact with people that I did not know. However, these
interactions have changed me as a whole. These communications also helped me discover my weaknesses and strengths. Through all of my group
interactions, I have established the sense of responsibility, gained motivation and willpower, and developed a network of relationships. I believe that
group strengths are being prompt with my work and pre–planning my tasks. Being prompt with my work has allowed my group work to progress faster
and pre–planning allowed me to lower my stress of work load. Additionally, I believe that my group weaknesses are having anxiety and being
indecisive about choosing tasks. Furthermore, others believe that my group strength is that I am informative. Usually some group members would
forget what they have to do to complete their task and I would help by reminding them. Others perceive my group weakness to being not so talkative. I
usually stay silent in group discussions or wait until my group members ask me questions. According to the Mastering Group Skills: How Competent
Are You? Exercise on page 109, I am competent in most of the skills. I would rate my communication competence as competent. I did notice a pattern

The On The Gaming Industry
The gaming industry took America so far in entertainment for generations of young and old to play for decades to come. Starting from one of the
developers of the atomic bomb used in World War II to the present day console wars of PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo games have been
played. Computer engineers took steps and chances with their ideas, making them into successful business men in a brand new industry, creating
new products of imagination, science, and reality. If there were no video games modern day products and small industries such as apple would
not exist since Atari hired Steve Jobs to come work for them and not pushing him to the limit of the apple computer. New worlds were in place for
developers and customers to explore and enjoy. The developer of the atomic bomb and first person to take a chance was William Higinbotham. His
game started in Brookhaven in which he took charge and calling it Tennis for Two. His invention was "simulated on a screen was a vertical side
view of a tennis court showing the edge floor with the edge of a floor with the edge of the net perpendicular to it" (Games...). The game system came
with two controls having one knob and button on each one giving players to hit a small dot representing the ball moving back and forth. The actual
device was connected to an oscilloscope having a simple design, although Higinbotham worked with technical specialist Robert V. Dvorak, who built it
and Alexander Elia is designing, designs the blueprints.

The MMORPG : The Evolution Of Online Role-Playing Games

multiplayer online role–playing games, or MMORPG for short. Players could go on the internet and play the same game with millions of other active
players at the same time. The genre evolved over time, as games shifted in and out of popularity, but especially during the 2000–2012 era, MMORPGs
absolutely dominated the market (The MMORPG). The MMORPG consists of a large player base, interacting on a virtual computer platform through
the role of their personal, fictional character. Games differed in many ways, but most commonly, players attempt to level up various skills, fight other

The game is set in a fictional world named Gielinor, a world similar to Europe in the Middle Ages, but with fantasy elements like creatures and magic (
RuneScape Wiki 2008). This makes it strikingly similar to the same setting for the Arthurian stories. Both RuneScape and the Arthurian legends contain
fictional animals like unicorns, griffins, and phoenixes (RuneScape Wiki 2008, McShane 2013). Both also contain magic. Players in RuneScape can
use spells to help them in combat, like fireballs, and spells to accomplish other tasks, like teleportation (RuneScape Wiki 2008). Magic in Arthurian
stories works similarly, with combat magic like the enchanted Excalibur, or non–combat magic, like Merlin's ability to see the future in Historia
Regum Britanniae (Geoffrey of Monmouth 1136). The two worlds seem incredibly similar, with only specifics being changed. But it is not only the
setting that is similar, the characters are as well. Players can choose to be a melee, magic, or ranged, as well as custom their combat in many ways
(RuneScape Wiki 2008). Two of these classes, the melee and the mage are extremely similar to the wizards and knights from the Arthurian legends
and other medieval stories. RuneScape also shares other similar minor characters like hermits, damsels, and priests (RuneScape Wiki 2008).
RuneScape is even directly influenced by the legend, as it has its own version of Camelot,

Virtual Stealing
In "Should Gamers Be prosecuted for Virtual Stealing?" by Alex Weiss, the author attempts to argue against a Dutch jury's decision on a case involving
virtual theft. The essay discusses a Dutch court case involving a thirteen–year–old who stole something from another person inside of a video game.
The author then proceeds into telling readers about stories from a game called EVE. He talks about the value that the time is worth and his past
experiences in EVE. I have found that the author was unable to write an effective argument. The author showed weak pathos, bad ethos, and crude
logos. The author's pathos was weak in the sense that there was so little of it. He told a story of how he was once a thief in EVE and that he has
since changed. This could get people inspired to turn over a new leaf. Weiss also stated that Kotaku said that six years of subscriptions to EVE was
equivalent to one thousand... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There was no real research done about RuneScape, the game the court case was on. This showed the author to be lazy. He did do research on EVE
which shows inconsideration and bias because he chose to do research on a topic that had nothing to do with the case and it was something he was
familiar with. Weiss shows himself to being bias in the fact that he offers no rebuttal to his argument. The author willingly gave up information in his
personal story that proves himself to be dishonest and untrustworthy. Weiss stated that he was in an "e–relationship with someone who thought he was a
girl" (729). Weiss did use a good source when it comes to his subject. His source is good for gamers, but the author is writing to non–gamers and they
may see his source as unreliable. Weiss has presented himself to be lazy, bias, inconsiderate, dishonest, and untrustworthy. Weiss' ethics will end up
being called into question and this will weaken the effectiveness of his argument rather than present himself in a more positive

Growing up for some children could be a very hard for them. These children don't have very many friends, and get bullied day in and day out.
Video games are their escape from the "real world" and get lost in various virtual worlds with alter life styles. With the way most games are being

Those improvements are straight in the brain, and will help your reflexes in every activity, rather than just video games. Patience and
perseverance are a huge thing in a lot of popular MMORPGs today. Runescape for example, has a very large leveling system with numerous skills
that you can master. "Grinding" these skills with require a lot of time just to get anywhere in most games, but grinding will also help you do
repetitive task that could be a annoying to others. "Is grinding really a life skill? You bet it is. The ability to endure routine and repetition is one
that will come in handy no matter what you pursue; E.g. grinding through homework," (Messieh). The outcome in this patience is the reward of
being a high level and the satisfaction of completing something others give up trying. Social skills are a big part of the every MMO because you
have to be able to work with others and be able to communicate well. Studies show that kids that will participate in social activities through gaming
they will improve there skills in real life, and preform task in social causes. Social skills are also manifested in forms of civic engagement: the ability
to organize groups and lead likeminded people in social causes. A number of studies have focused on the link between civic engagement and gaming.
For example, one large–scale, representative U.S. study (Lenhart et al., 2008) showed that

Should Video Gamers Be Taken In Court?
Alex Weiss an ex–Video gamer believes that "Video games are not work or investments for which people should be compensated; they are
escapism." His rational is based on the decision of the Dutch court to charge a 13year old boy with stealing two virtual items during the playing of a
game called RuneScape. Weiss uses different examples as to why he believes the 13–year–old had done nothing wrong. One reason being" the
developers of the game RuneScape did not explicitly state that the thief couldn't do what he did." I agree that a 13–year–old should not be taken in to
court because of a virtual game that should be the responsibility of his parents to monitor what kind of game and what the rules are that their child is
playing. The ruling of the Dutch Supreme Court has set a president that should lead to universal governing rules set forth concerning the world of

Chapter II– Review of related Literature Summary: Online gaming has faced and still faces many problems. The main reason for this is that the
Internet was not designed for such a medium. "The Internet was designed to provide redundant points of communication, not to provide high–speed
arcade action (Bates, "Lag and the Game Reviewers" 175)." A few technological barriers stand in the way of a vision of ideal multi–player gaming over
the Internet. The most significant of these technological problems are the problems of latency and reliability. Internet latency is inevitable data
transfer delays that create lag in games, keeping an online game from running smoothly. Some also feel that because of this lag, true interactive
gaming will never be possible over the Internet. Bandwidth issues are also a problem. Receiving data is difficult over the Internet, particularly
collecting data from several players in a multi–player game. Another problem that online gamers face is finding people to play with online. Dedicated
game server sites have helped answer this problem. MPath, TEN, and BattleNet are some such game systems whose principal mission is
match–making. However, some of these dedicated game servers charge

Fragoria Review: Old But Gold
Browser MMORPGs in the mold of old favorites like Diablo and Runescape are a rarity, but Fragoria seeks to change this. In a nutshell, Fragoria dives
you deep into another fantasy world, this time filled to the brim with Slavic fairy tales and other legends. Unlike more modern RPGs, Fragoria looks
like a mid–2000s RPG, yet this is where its appeal lies.
To register, you can use your Facebook account or Google+. If you prefer the age–old option which is to register using your email, you can do so.
Diving into Fragoria
[insert screenshot 1 – Choosing a character]
Before you immerse yourself into the world of Fragoria, you will first choose between three characters: a hulking man clad in armor, a lady warrior, ...

By accomplishing them, you will be receiving rewards.
At first, traversing around the game's immersive world will is rather slow. Thankfully, you will have a mount as soon as you arrive at the first village.
This will allow you to traverse quickly around the world. Moreover, you can automatically make your character move to certain spots on the map – all
you have to do is click on an icon next to the minimap.
[insert screenshot 5 – Say hello to other characters]
Fragoria wouldn't be as good as it is without other characters fighting alongside – or against – you. You can make friends, join guilds, and even battle
against others in Arenas, which are designated PvP zones in the game. Guilds may even clash and do battle on special areas, as well as fight with each
other defeat bosses.
There is also a pet system within the game.
Is it for you?
[insert screenshot – 6 – It's a pretty decent RPG]
First off, let me say this: Fragoria isn't for everybody. Unfortunately, point–and–click games are quite outdated and may not appeal to you if you're
looking for something a little faster. However, if you're a hardcore RPG fan and want to try out old–school style games, Fragoria is a world you can
spend hours

What is the Voodoo Religion, and its Stereotypes
By: Yann Landy Simboro
Sutdent ID: 100127310

Tuesday April 15 2017
One don't have to look very far to find links and ties with Voodoo to western popular culture. We can see from Zombie movies, to different types of
horror movies how the Voodooreligion have been stereotypically viewed. Novelty stores sell pin–filled dolls to aim a public ranging from miscreant
romantic partners to unreasonable bosses. Even Runescape (an online gaming platform) has its own Voodoo brand, and can choose to be in different
"Voodoo" clans. These chops feature witch doctors, jinxed Hoodpiles and punctured Voodoo dolls. These types of representations... Show more content

This process is said to be reciprocal, and follower must look after Lwa by performing these rituals, which can sometimes come in in the form of
animal sacrifice. In the other hand some Voodooist ritual allow followers to thank the spirit for their protection, blessings or good fortune. To
maintain a good relationship with the Lwa, or stay in good terms followers must all conduct themselves properly according to the customs of the
community and the religion. In this way one can see how Voodoo can influence a persons day by day decision, activities, and decision making.
Part of voodoo belief is that the Lwa communicate with followers through possession. The Lwa takes place of the host, and temporarily displaces
its soul. According to this belief the medium cannot feel pain or become injured while he is in trans. The lwa speaks through the host giving
intructions, advices or prophecies of future events. In some cases the Lwa can rebuke the host for failing to perform their duties. This idea of being
possessed unites two different types Voodoo practitioners. One of them primarly existing in northern, and central portion of West African coast. This
type of voodoo is the oldest known Voodoo and goes back to 6000 years ago from to Fon and Kongo. The other is practiced primarly in Haiti as well as
in parts of north and sourth America.
Books that explore either form of voodoo often explain the religion through series of stories and anecdotes instead of using a straightforward
analysis. This is also the main reason voodoo is soo widely seen in a stereotypical way in the modern western world. The reason as to why there is
no straight forward representation; and also the leading factor as to why the Voodoo religion is seen in such a way is due to three

Personal Narrative Analysis
I remember anxiously waiting for my older brother to connect to the internet through dial up for the first time. I would constantly pester my brother
with questions about how images appeared on this magical box. Never before in my life had I ever used anything like it. Knowing that any simple
form of interference such as picking up a phone would cut off the connection, I had to learn how to make the most out of my time and constantly save
the progress of any software or game that was open.
Ever since my little brother, Daniel, was diagnosed with autism, it has been difficult to communicate with him because of his inability to articulate
words. At first my family and I tried to teach him basic words and introduce sign language to him. With each attempt, he smiled and replied with his
favorite word, "buh"! One day when I was playing Runescape, it hit me. The solution was right in front of me: technology. Waiting patiently as the
slow dial–up internet loaded each page, I came across a simple soundboard and asked my mother to purchase it. On the day of arrival, my family and
I spent the evening assigning sound recordings to each button and adding pictures next to them. After we showed Daniel how the soundboard worked,
I was bewildered when he had pushed the "I want" button and the picture of the food he desired. Because of technology, ... Show more content on

When I look at a piece of technology, I always question myself: "How does it work"?" Always wanting to learn how code works, I signed up for my
high school's Java class. At first, understanding Java was like Charlie Brown listening to his teacher speak. However, with time, it became clearer and
felt like a challenging game. Although the class continually became more difficult, I thoroughly enjoyed the learning process. Despite knowing that
there will be many difficulties to face, I decided to follow my passions and to major in Computer

Computer Mediated Communication Analysis
Computer–mediated communication is a ubiquitous feature of modern life. Whether the communication is through Facebook, Twitter, email, instant
messaging (IM), or such media as massive multiplayer online role–playing games (MMORPGs,) the ability for human beings to communicate across
time and culture is unprecedented in history. Never before have people been able to communicate so freely with strangers around the world. However,
it lacks at least one critical aspect of face–to–face interaction: nonverbal communication. Therefore, it is imperative that we continue to find more and
more ways to approximate the nonverbal cues provided by speaking in person. Nonverbal communication, loosely defined as all parts of communication

Nearly everyone has experienced the frustration of writing a carefully crafted email which has subsequently been misinterpreted by the recipient.
Michael Duffy writes, speaking of interacting with clients via email,"Comments in e–mail form are often seen as curt and sometimes harsh. Without
that interaction when the client is explaining her comments, the smallest, most benign suggestion can escalate to a crisis before you know it. And soon
you'll assume the client wants to change the whole creative direction rather than simply make a minor tweak." (Duffy) So, robbed of the nonverbal
cues (a shrug, a shake of the head,) which indicate that the suggestion is indeed small and benign, the email comes off as harsh and demanding. Email
interaction is just one of many forms of computer–mediated communication. Often, people use a combination of many forms, such as instant
messaging, texting, email, and chat to communicate online. In fact, in a survey by advertising giant Euro RSCG Worldwide, half of the respondents
said they knew someone whose dating or marriage relationship started online (Friedman.) Match.com, a popular dating website, had over twenty
million active members in 2008 (Match.com.) So it seems quite possible to at least begin a meaningful relationship over the internet, but it seems that
it's not beneficial to rely on online–only relationships too heavily. In studies, it has been shown that

Impact of Media on the People of Pakistan
In the late 20th Century, mass media could be classified into eight mass media industries: books, newspapers, magazines, recordings, radio, movies,
television and the internet. With the explosion of digital communication technology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the question of what forms
of media should be classified as "mass media" has become more prominent. For example, it is controversial whether to include cell phones, video
games and computer games (such as MMORPGs) in the definition. In the 2000s, a classification called the "seven mass media" became popular. In
order of introduction, they are:
1.Print (books, pamphlets, newspapers, magazines, etc.) from the late 15th century
2.Recordings (gramophone records, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This transmittion of mass advertising to millions of people is a form of mass communication.
Video games may also be evolving into a mass medium. Video games convey the same messages and ideologies to all their users users. Users
sometimes share the experience with each other by playing online. Excluding the internet however, it is questionable whether players of video games
are sharing a common experience when they play the game separately. It is possible to discuss in great detail the events of a video game with a friend
you have never played with because the experience was identical to you both. The question is if this is then a form of mass communication.
MMORPGS such as Runescape provide a common gaming experience to millions of users throughout the globe. It is arguable that the users are
receiving the same message, i.e., the game is mass communicating the same messages to the various players.
A life without the presence of mass media would seem improbable for many! Let's read about the pros and cons of mass media and its effect on a
larger scale.
Mass media enjoys a very prominent role in our lives. There are various effects of mass media on the society at large. Media tends to influence and it's
obvious, there are positive as well as negative influences of mass media. However, it also depends upon the way audiences perceive things. The power
of the mass media is by far recognized by everybody in terms of advertising, marketing and as a

America's Competitive Advantage
I've always been a calm and collective individual, favoring the slow and calculated approach to problem solving, assuring the problem is achieved
to maximum success. As such, I'm the kind of person to try everything first hand, in order to find out the true best way in order to accomplish a
task, despite what a guide may say. However, I also have the intelligence to do so in a productive way. They say you shouldn't reinvent the wheel,
and to build upon others success, at some point someone tried just that, and was able to create a 'better' wheel. At the end of the day, it is still a wheel,
but it's this innovation that drives the world forward. I'm an innovator. I'll be the guy trying the thing no one thought of, using some method someone
dismissed as 'xp waste' and still be able to put some spin on it in order to create something that is better than everything else.... Show more content on

something, after years upon years of effort. That's why my crowning achievements in gaming are often in games that I have revisited on numerous
occasions over the course of my life, These achievements include 100% completion of Spyro 2, and recently purchasing a max cape on

Social Benefits Of Video Games

  • 1. Social Benefits Of Video Games Video games have been around since 1950s and have gone a long way from what they are today. They are in no doubt a big part of our society and with doing so they have been criticized by many. Video games come in different categories which include: action, racing, adventure, role–playing, simulation, strategy, and sports. The purpose of these games can be casual, serious, art, Christian, and educational. You can play these games on different types of platforms as well to make it the gamers preference. In today's society, it is common for one to play video games. Some people play causally and some play professional to make money. Even though, video games are now mainstream, they are still being stigmatized and it has been like that since the creation of them. Some people see video games as a waste of time and that they are unproductive, but after being studied thoroughly by researchers that is not true; video games are known to have benefits. It can help children with development and it can help adults perform better at their job. It can also help people with different disorders. Video games should not be stigmatized because of the advantages ranging from cognitive to social benefits for children, people with disabilities, and adults. The social benefit that gaming has is a way to interact better with others and allows for an alternative way to learn. • 2. Should Video Gamers Be Prosecuted for Virtual Theft> Elizabeth Shreve September 20, 2015 Eng 111 4–5:15 Professor Roof Paper 1 Prosecution in the Virtual World Many online gamers will pay for virtual items with real money. Some people want laws in effect for the real world to protect their rights to their belongings. Theft in the virtual world occurs quite often. In an article titled, "Should Gamers be Prosecuted for Virtual Stealing?" the author Alex Weiss calls out a young teenage boy who is being prosecuted for stealing in a videogame. If this were to become legal, it would someday bring people to "sue" their co–worker for too much talking or some other non–existent crime. If some choose to spend their time unproductively, would they not expect to be compensated for such types of loses? While some people see turning to the law for in–game crimes, they fail to realize that video games have their own ways of punishment, so the actual physical prosecution should not be necessary. Weiss observes how games like World of Warcraft will strictly punish their gamers for theft, scamming, and vulgar language. He says, "Violators can be banned and victims' lost goods are refunded." Weiss then goes on to point out how in EVE will actually encourage players to have a behavior of piracy to give them a sense of pride. (729) There are many different games with different styles of engagement and how the game is to be played. To have a universal punishment for these crimes seems unfair and unfit. In spirit video gamers build their video games from the start of nothing, laying out the rules and all the abilities of the game. The chances of being able to steal in the virtual world without hacking is nearly impossible. Physical prosecution for virtual theft may be providing justice for the theft committed yet providing injustice on a law abiding citizen. Video games make it very easy to steal in, so what will happen when a non–criminal citizen takes the opportunity to do so

Released in 2001, there were no games like it out there for its time. For many of us gamers, Runescape was the beginning of an amazing journey. The game was free to play on your web browser, no download necessary. Once your account was created you were able to start your adventure in the exploration of Runescape, there is no better game you can get lost in. Runescape is the missing piece of achievement, adventure, and connection that you are searching for. The concept of the game was revolutionary from the questing to the combat system. Players would have complete control on what they wanted to do. There was a ray of activities such as what type of combat, crafting, merchanting, cooking, mining, hunting, and many others. With each milestone you hit a player would feel a sense of accomplishment. The longer it took to reach that goal the more satisfying it was. This sense of achievement was what all of us craved. For many players this system of gameplay at this level was never seen before. We were used to the console games such as Zelda or Super Mario that had a set storyline to follow and a goal to reach, once completed the game was over. Unlike the typical game of the time Runescape was a never ending story. There was always something to achieve and conquer within the game setting it apart from Zelda and Super Mario. Summary: The Mask Wearer By Amos Darara In America, kids are taught to read by sounds, how "the" sound, how each syllable is supposed to sound like however I was though differently, since I was born in Canada. I am French Canadian and how we learned to read was by seeing the word and each word had a different picture of them, for example, "mama" ,the word for mom in french, looks totally different than "papa",the word for dad. We were never forced to read anything however during our break, while in class, we did not have anything to do except strategy games or reading books, so we end up reading scary books or "go to a certain page "books. Before coming to America, I had never ever had to write a book report in my life. The stories I now prefer is the one's that the main character increases in power over time and we can see that with experience, he grows stronger mentally and physically. He also has to have a goal to achieve, enemies that provide challenges and outsmarting them and not just being overpowered. I would run around outside dipping and dodging my brothers just like the football players on TV. Howeverbaseball was where my natural talent and passion fell. I grew intensely intrigued with the game. While most kids my age 7 or 8 were all in their room trying to be the best runescape player I would spend hours on end playing outside playing in the dirt with a ball and a bat. My house had an oversized back yard, with a big red shed. That big red shed was the backstop of my diamond I didn't use bases. Summary: Should Gamers Be Prosecuted For Virtual Stealing Should Gamers Be Prosecuted for Virtual Stealing Summary: In this article a situation involving two parties is broken down and explained. First there is the victim who claims he was stolen from on a virtual game called runescape. While the other party is the thief who is being charged with theft. The writer states his opinion throughout the piece and makes it very apparent that this is childish. However the victim felt it was enough to take to federal court. The victim claims that the thief stole a amulet and a sword from him in the game. The reason he feels he can take this 13 year old to court is because he invested money in the subscription and also time to obtain the virtual currency to buy these items. The big issue with this case however is the fact that the thief used violent actions with his virtual character to obtain the objects from the owner. The writer goes on to state that it is a virtual game and therefore nocrime was committed. This case in the end concluded in court that the thief believes that it was a crime and sentences the 13 year old to 145 hours of community service. Response: ... • 10. Should Gamers Be Prosecuted For Virtual Stealing? "Should Gamers Be Prosecuted for Virtual Stealing?" Summary, Reaction, and Response In 2012, the Dutch Supreme Court convicted a teenager of "virtual theft." The defendant stole two items within the then–popular game Runescape. Although the defendant's attorney pointed out the neither items even existed or had any real economic value, the court ruled that the time spent by the victim in the acquisition of these items within the game actually gave them economic value. The author gives examples of similar behavior being not only allowed, but accepted within older, similar games. The author argues that gamers should not be prosecuted for theft within games, assuming the stolen "object" has no economic value, and that cases like this one "[make] no sense to [him]." In my opinion, the alleged "thievery" was completely the fault of the victim. I am aware that in our society, blatantly blaming the victim for their situation is very wrong, and in nearly every case, I agree with that belief. Here, however, there are only two ways that the "thievery" could have even taken place: the victim was tricked, which is completely their fault, and non–refundable, or the perpetrator of the crime edited and or exploited the script of the game. The second of which he should have been banned from the game for, not taken to a real–life court by an angry thirteen–year–old. I have found that the author was unable to write an effective argument. The author showed weak pathos, bad ethos, and crude logos. The author's pathos was weak in the sense that there was so little of it. He told a story of how he was once a thief in EVE and that he has since changed. The main reason for this is that the Internet was not designed for such a medium. "The Internet was designed to provide redundant points of communication, not to provide high–speed arcade action (Bates, "Lag and the Game Reviewers" 175)." A few technological barriers stand in the way of a vision of ideal multi–player gaming over the Internet. The most significant of these technological problems are the problems of latency and reliability. Internet latency is inevitable data transfer delays that create lag in games, keeping an online game from running smoothly. Some also feel that because of this lag, true interactive gaming will never be possible over the Internet. Bandwidth issues are also a problem. Receiving data is difficult over the Internet, particularly collecting data from several players in a multi–player game. Another problem that online gamers face is finding people to play with online. The Voodoo Religion And Its Stereotypes New Religion Movements What is the Voodoo Religion, and its Stereotypes By: Yann Landy Simboro Sutdent ID: 100127310 Prof: Chris Cutting Tuesday April 15 2017 One don't have to look very far to find links and ties with Voodoo to western popular culture. We can see from Zombie movies, to different types of horror movies how the Voodooreligion have been stereotypically viewed. Novelty stores sell pin–filled dolls to aim a public ranging from miscreant romantic partners to unreasonable bosses. Even Runescape (an online gaming platform) has its own Voodoo brand, and can choose to be in different "Voodoo" clans. These chops feature witch doctors, jinxed Hoodpiles and punctured Voodoo dolls. • 27. Personal Narrative Analysis I remember anxiously waiting for my older brother to connect to the internet through dial up for the first time. I would constantly pester my brother with questions about how images appeared on this magical box. Never before in my life had I ever used anything like it. Knowing that any simple form of interference such as picking up a phone would cut off the connection, I had to learn how to make the most out of my time and constantly save the progress of any software or game that was open. Ever since my little brother, Daniel, was diagnosed with autism, it has been difficult to communicate with him because of his inability to articulate words. At first my family and I tried to teach him basic words and introduce sign language to him. With each attempt, he smiled and replied with his favorite word, "buh"! One day when I was playing Runescape, it hit me. The solution was right in front of me: technology. Waiting patiently as the slow dial–up internet loaded each page, I came across a simple soundboard and asked my mother to purchase it. On the day of arrival, my family and I spent the evening assigning sound recordings to each button and adding pictures next to them. After we showed Daniel how the soundboard worked, I was bewildered when he had pushed the "I want" button and the picture of the food he desired. Because of technology, ... Always wanting to learn how code works, I signed up for my high school's Java class. At first, understanding Java was like Charlie Brown listening to his teacher speak. However, with time, it became clearer and felt like a challenging game. Although the class continually became more difficult, I thoroughly enjoyed the learning process. • 28. Computer Mediated Communication Analysis Computer–mediated communication is a ubiquitous feature of modern life. Whether the communication is through Facebook, Twitter, email, instant messaging (IM), or such media as massive multiplayer online role–playing games (MMORPGs,) the ability for human beings to communicate across time and culture is unprecedented in history. Never before have people been able to communicate so freely with strangers around the world. However, it lacks at least one critical aspect of face–to–face interaction: nonverbal communication. Therefore, it is imperative that we continue to find more and more ways to approximate the nonverbal cues provided by speaking in person. Nonverbal communication, loosely defined as all parts of communication other than... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nearly everyone has experienced the frustration of writing a carefully crafted email which has subsequently been misinterpreted by the recipient. Michael Duffy writes, speaking of interacting with clients via email,"Comments in e–mail form are often seen as curt and sometimes harsh. Without that interaction when the client is explaining her comments, the smallest, most benign suggestion can escalate to a crisis before you know it. And soon you'll assume the client wants to change the whole creative direction rather than simply make a minor tweak." (Duffy) So, robbed of the nonverbal cues (a shrug, a shake of the head,) which indicate that the suggestion is indeed small and benign, the email comes off as harsh and demanding. Email interaction is just one of many forms of computer–mediated communication. Often, people use a combination of many forms, such as instant messaging, texting, email, and chat to communicate online. In fact, in a survey by advertising giant Euro RSCG Worldwide, half of the respondents said they knew someone whose dating or marriage relationship started online (Friedman.) Match.com, a popular dating website, had over twenty million active members in 2008 (Match.com.) So it seems quite possible to at least begin a meaningful relationship over the internet, but it seems that it's not beneficial to rely on online–only relationships too heavily. In studies, it has been shown that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 30. Impact of Media on the People of Pakistan In the late 20th Century, mass media could be classified into eight mass media industries: books, newspapers, magazines, recordings, radio, movies, television and the internet. With the explosion of digital communication technology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the question of what forms of media should be classified as "mass media" has become more prominent. For example, it is controversial whether to include cell phones, video games and computer games (such as MMORPGs) in the definition. In the 2000s, a classification called the "seven mass media" became popular. In order of introduction, they are: 1.Print (books, pamphlets, newspapers, magazines, etc.) from the late 15th century 2.Recordings (gramophone records, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This transmittion of mass advertising to millions of people is a form of mass communication. Video games may also be evolving into a mass medium. Video games convey the same messages and ideologies to all their users users. Users sometimes share the experience with each other by playing online. Excluding the internet however, it is questionable whether players of video games are sharing a common experience when they play the game separately. It is possible to discuss in great detail the events of a video game with a friend you have never played with because the experience was identical to you both. The question is if this is then a form of mass communication. MMORPGS such as Runescape provide a common gaming experience to millions of users throughout the globe. It is arguable that the users are receiving the same message, i.e., the game is mass communicating the same messages to the various players. A life without the presence of mass media would seem improbable for many! Let's read about the pros and cons of mass media and its effect on a larger scale. • 31. America's Competitive Advantage I've always been a calm and collective individual, favoring the slow and calculated approach to problem solving, assuring the problem is achieved to maximum success. As such, I'm the kind of person to try everything first hand, in order to find out the true best way in order to accomplish a task, despite what a guide may say. However, I also have the intelligence to do so in a productive way. They say you shouldn't reinvent the wheel, and to build upon others success, at some point someone tried just that, and was able to create a 'better' wheel. At the end of the day, it is still a wheel, but it's this innovation that drives the world forward. I'm an innovator. I'll be the guy trying the thing no one thought of, using some method someone dismissed as 'xp waste' and still be able to put some spin on it in order to create something that is better than everything else....
