Several theories have been conceptualized in the past on the concept of employees’ wellbeing and health. Studies have liked the deterioration of employee health and wellbeing on lack or reduced motivation in the organization or among employees in the organization. In most cases, the theories that have been used to study employees’ health and wellbeing in connection to motivation are naturally content and process theories. Process theories are focused on studying the needs of the employees while process theories are focused on understanding the behaviors of the employees. This study will investigate both the needs and the behaviors of the employees based on the variables in the research topic.
According to a study that was done by Abbot and Doucouliagos (2003), most of the content theories investigates the incentives, necessities and the basic elements of the job that contribute to human contentment. They also focus on understanding the basic factor in the organization that influences the conduct of the employees. Some of the commonly known content theories include Herzberg’s two-factor theory, McClelland’s theory, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory, and Alderfer’s ERG theory. This study will employ McClelland’s theory, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs theory
to understand the needs of the employees in this study. Similarly, Burns and Others (2015) argues that process theories are the kind of theories that investigate and explains factors that stimulate, direct, maintain and stop employees’ behaviors in an organizational perspective. There are four types of process theories and they include Expectancy, Equity, Reinforcement, and Goal setting theories. However, based on the goals and objectives of this study, expectancy and equity theories will be used alongside the identified content theories.

Research Design Selection and Justification
As already discussed intensively in week 5 assignment, this
study will employ a qualitative research method to collect its
11. data. The method was selected based on the benefits that it
offers the researcher in addressing a social problem just like the
one the study aims to solve (Creswell et al, 2007). Considering
the objectives of the current study, this study will use an action
research design to complete the study. The main objective of
this study is to synthesize information that administrators can
rely on to develop strategies that will enhance employee
wellbeing and health in residents’ homes healthcare
organizations. In this regard to get a clear perspective of the
organizations, the researcher will source some of its participants
in the study from the organizations (Edwards 2010). Similarly,
the researcher will have to collaborate with the organizations in
question to justify the strategies that will be modeled from the
research findings.
Since this study will be conducted at the individual level, action
research design provides an individual action research design
that will allow the researcher to conduct the study alone.
Conducting a study that involves solving a problem requires
that the solution is assessed for its effectiveness after the
recommendations have been implemented (Creswell et al, 2007).
Action research design is imperative in this perspective since
the design provides a framework that allows the researcher to
assess the effectiveness of the solutions that was recommended
after they have been implemented. Similarly, this research
design has been identified as the best because the design
provides a research framework in which the researcher will be
able to use either survey interviews, questionnaires or even
observation as tolls to collect data which have proven to be
cheap and easy to analyze the collected data (Edwards 2010).
Based on the above benefits of conducting research using action
research design, I will use the design in conducting my study.

Problem Statement
Most of the studies that have been done in the recent past
indicates that most of the resident homes healthcare episodes in
United States lead to an adverse effect on the patients. It has
also been highlighted that 1 out of 20 medical procedures will
result to an error and employee turnover (Brown, 2015).
13. Researches that have been done indicates that medical errors
cost the American healthcare more than $1.9 billion in legal
litigations and estimated $2.3 billion in additional hospital days
every single year. Surprisingly, most of the studies have
suggested that these statistics may be way below the reality
based on the fact that it is difficult rather complex to capture
real data in clinical setting (Brown, 2015). Several factors have
been linked to the several adverse incidents and medical errors
that are experienced in healthcare today. The incidents and
errors are caused by both latent and active factors, system and
individual causes are also linked to the problem that is
adversely impacting the healthcare. Employee wellbeing as a
factor that may cause medical errors include lack of employee
motivation programs, long working hours, overworking which
results to staff burnout in the healthcare which results to high
employee turnover. Several studies that have been done to
highlight the effects that healthcare staff well-being and health
problem have on the patients’ treatment outcomes and safety in
resident’s healthcare homes. However, little has been done to
address the major concerns of how the resident homes
healthcare professionals’ health and well-being can be improved
in the process and reduce the high employee turnover that is
witnessed in these organizations and improve the quality of life
care in these healthcare organizations.
It this essence, the major problem has been how to develop
frameworks within the resident’s home healthcare organizations
that will improve the working environment and enhance the
healthcare of the professionals that work in these organizations
and reduce the problem of employee turnover in these
organizations. The concern rather problem has been caused by
lack of sufficient knowledge supported by empirical evidence
that provide resident’s homes healthcare organization
administrators with enough literature that can guide them to put
in place programs that will enhance the health and well-being of
these group of healthcare practitioners. Such programs that
14. enhance the health and wellbeing of the employees are
important as they will not only curtail high rate of employee
turnover but also increase quality of care and patient
satisfaction. The problem is that most of the healthcare
administrators do not have the required knowledge to implement
health and wellbeing improvements for the nurses working in
residents’ homes care organizations
. Healthcare sector is one of the sectors in which employees are
involved in intensive work in a stressful environment.
Understanding this problem through scientific investigation is
important as it provide ways to enhance the welfare and
improve health of resident’s home healthcare organizations’
employees is very important as it will contribute to the
management of employee turnover in these organizations (Best
& Kahn, 2016). It is because of this concern that there is need
to conduct a research to investigate the problem and synthesize
enough knowledge to understand how the poor health state of
employees affect their productivity and contribute to employee
turnover. This is also important as it will provide health care
administrators in this sector with knowledge that is imperative
in developing programs required to motivate and enhance
employee health status.
Purpose of the Study
The current study focus on the effects and the impacts that
staff’s health and wellbeing have on residents’ healthcare group
home. Employee turnover in healthcare has been a major head
to the healthcare administrators and it is because of this that it
is a major policy issue in American healthcare (Brown, 2015).
The purpose of this study is to synthesize knowledge through
literature review and use of primary data that can be used by
residents’ homes care organizations administrators to develop
programs that are required to enhance employee wellbeing and
health. However, most of the policy makers do not understand
the reasons why the American healthcare is experiencing high
15. employee turnover that has direct effect on the quality of care
and patient satisfaction. The overriding purpose of this study is
to describe how healthcare administrators in resident’s homes
healthcare organizations can improve employees’ working
environment through effective programs that improve wellbeing
and health of the health professionals and limit the problem of
employee turnover, enhance patients’ safety and quality of care
provided. The study will also look at how poor health status of
employees contribute to employee turnover and how it affect
their productivity. The study will review literature to
investigate the effects that employee wellbeing and health status
has on quality of care and how it contributes to employee
turnover in healthcare organizations. The study will also
achieve its purpose by collecting data from study participants to
provide empirical evidence on the best programs and
frameworks that can be implemented to improve employees’
welfare and health in residents’ home healthcare organizations.
