Beowulf Family Traditions
Beowulf, the epic of England is about the importance of the family and a leader or a king. There was
a kingdom named Danes led by king Hrothgar, Is an old man he had a wife younger than him and
doesn't love the king. King Hrothgar has a close friend and that was the father of Beowulf so that,
king Hrothgar put Beowulf as his right hand to guide and led the group of Danish in every fights.
One night there was a celebration in the kingdom of Danes, lots of foods and alcohols, they are
having fun and singing, shouting and laugh, they enjoy in every minute during that night, but there's
someone ruin their celebration, someone came into their kingdom. Nearby, there was a creature herd

Like Water For Chocolate Family Tradition Essay
In the novel Like Water for Chocolate, food and Mexican family traditions are the main focus of the
book. Esquivel uses food recipes from her Mexican heritage passed down from generation to
generation to tell a story. The story takes the reader on a complex journey with the De la Garza
family showing how the enjoyment of cooking family recipes brings honor to their ancestors, as
well, as, hardship from family traditions by causing the youngest child from marrying and finding
true love. Throughout the novel, the De la Garza family enjoys many family traditional food recipes,
but with that came an unexpected recipe of traditional disaster. As in the novel, Like Water for
Chocolate, I also have experienced a family tradition where the food is delicious but the tradition
has left a bad taste in my mouth. Every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Esquivel argues that some family traditions can determine the outcome of your life and if you do not
like that direction you need to fight to change the family tradition. Throughout the novel Tita is
required to obey the family traditions, which is to care for your matriarch (Mama Elena) until she
dies. Tita always feels trapped because of family traditions which causes her to make decisions that
don't make her happy. Esquivel writes, "If intends to ask for your hand, tell him not to bother. He'll
be wasting his time and mine too. You know perfectly well that being the youngest daughter means
you have to care for me until the day I die" (10). It was obvious to Mama Elena that Tita was having
feelings for Pedro because she asked Mama Elena if Pedro could come to the home. Tita's comment
caused Mama Elena great frustration and anger because Pedro wanted to marry Tita and Mama
Elena was not going to break the family tradition and allow Tita to start a relationship with Pedro.
Another example, of how "tradition" many times becomes a recipe of disaster

My Favorite Family Tradition
What is your favorite family tradition? Maybe it's family Christmas, or family Thanksgiving. For me
it is deer hunting. My family has been deer hunting in the same place for the last 25 years. It all
started with my grandpa going hunting with his friends. Then when my uncle got old enough to deer
hunt he starting going too. Once my dad started dating my mom he started going out hunting with
my grandpa too. Deer camp slowly grew until they had eight guys out there all hunting everyday.
Then my grandpa died and a lot of the people stopped coming out. This was before I ever hunted,
but when I did I could tell that there were lots of good memories, and history in that place. Even
now when we drive down the road my dad or my uncle will say, ... Show more content on

* * * I had taken the day off of school, and my uncle took the day off of work so that we could go
hunting a day earlier. We woke up at 5 a.m. to get into the stand by sunrise. Anybody that has been
deer hunting since they were a kid knows how difficult it is to sit in a stand for hours when you are
ten years old. I had managed to sit in the stand next to my uncle for two hours before we decided to
go get breakfast. Two hours might sound like a long time to some people, but my uncle can sit in the
woods for 11 hours straight and have the time of his life. However, that was not the case for me. We
crawled out of the woods and got in the truck to go back to camp. The road that we hunt on is a
single lane road that is about four miles long with a deep ditch on the north side, and a very shallow
ditch on the south side. The woods is at most 20 feet from either side of the road, so you are pretty
immersed in wilderness. As we were driving back to camp my uncle was scanning the woods as we
drove and he saw a deer in the woods. He drove by and stopped so we didn't spook the deer.
Something I didn't know that you were supposed to do until that point. We quietly get out of the
vehicle out and I grabbed my gun. I couldn't freehand shoot because I wasn't strong enough to hold

My Family Traditions
My family has a lot of different traditions, but one stands out more than the others. The holiday I am
talking about is Christmas. My family has always celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. We start
the celebration by going to our church's Christmas Eve service. During this service, we sing
Christmas songs and watch a video of the first Christmas. After the service, all my family goes to
my grandparents' house to open presents and have supper. The meal is different than most Christmas
meals. All of my family members bring an appetizer instead of bringing a main dish. One of my
cousins is Haitian and one of uncles is Italian, so we have a lot of different cultures represented. My
favorite is my uncle's meatballs. Once we eat we have two different places to sit. One is called the
kids' room and the other is the adult room. You are supposed to sit at the kids' table if you are not
married. Once we have finished eating we all head to the living room to open presents. Before we
open presents, one of my younger cousins reads a Christmas poem. A different cousin reads the
story every year.
When it is finally time to open presents, we always open them one person at a time and always go
from youngest to oldest. We go one at a time because my grandma likes to see what everyone got.
Once everyone has opened their presents, my grandma tries to recruit some people to play bingo.
She likes being the person who calls out the numbers because that's what her mom always did. We
have been doing all of these things for as long as I can remember. My dad says they have been doing
things this way for the last 40 years. My grandma is the main person that has been carrying on these
traditions.
I would say my grandmother is the glue to our family so everyone follows her lead. I think that my
other family members are so used to doing these things that they will continue to do them in the
future. I would say I am a participant in this tradition. I am one of the younger grandchildren, so I do
not say much or try to change anything. If I did offer a new idea, I do think my grandma would
consider it. My whole family takes part in this tradition. I have six aunts and uncles and twelve
cousins, so my family is pretty big. Everyone

Aging Tradition : Family Dinner : A Dying Tradition
Family Dinner: A Dying Tradition
The era of dining as a family is becoming as extinct as the dinosaurs. I find this to be distressing and
tragic because it personally affects my family. Just a generation ago, 80 percent of families ate their
meals together every night and the numbers have dwindled since. Now, in 2017, 40 percent of
American families eat dinner together, and even then, usually no more than two or three times a
week (Food Marketing Institute). Within the last 20–30 years, something has changed. This tradition
is dying because people now are constantly busy, becoming so caught up in life that they simply do
not value family time as much as past generations. According to the study, "Correlations in Family
Meals...", "Family meals offer routine and consistency and provide an opportunity to socialize
children and teach them about communication skills, manners, nutrition, and good eating habits."
There are numerous benefits that can come from just sharing a meal with your loved ones, yet so
many people don't take advantage of this quality family time.
Dining together is paramount in a family's relationship with one another; this time is used to catch
up, bond and spend time together. I cherish every moment I can gather around the dinner table with
my family because a lot of the time my family can't all make it to dinner anymore. I believe that this
tradition needs to be revived and restored for the sake of disconnected families everywhere.

Mexican And American Family Traditions
On the fourth Thursday of every November, families gather together to spend a day filled with food
and laughter. Thanksgiving celebrates the day the settlers and the Native Americans enjoyed their
first meal together. However, my parents were both raised in Mexico and never had a typical yearly
Thanksgiving celebration. Despite my parents home being Mexico, they started a family in America
and decided to teach their children about both of the places they come from. A compromise between
American and Mexican traditions formed and served as a family tradition until last year. A year ago,
my family ate a Thanksgiving meal at my sister's parent–in–laws house. From the second someone
gazes at the table, everything appears different. Although the shape of the table resembled the long
wooden rectangular table my family owns, nothing else contained similarities. For starters, the red

Holidays Another way that older generations pass down elements of the Korean culture is through
holiday traditions. For the most part, the interviewees listed the typical American holidays that their
families celebrate, including Christmas and Thanksgiving. It was evident that some American
holidays were less emphasized, such as Independence Day and Halloween. Julie expressed that the
lack of observance of some American customs exemplifies her parent's transmission of Korean
culture. For example, because Halloween is not a Korean holiday, Julie and her siblings never
dressed up or went trick–or–treating like a majority of their friends. Instead, their parents took them
to pumpkin patches, church functions or harvest festivals. Julie formulated ... Show more content on

most formal family tradition:
So, one of the parents announce that it is time and my cousins and I will all bow to the older aunts,
uncles and grandparents of course. We're supposed to memorize something in Korean to say to
them. After we do that, they say something back to us and give us cash or give the younger kids
candy or a small gift. I'd say it's the most formal or traditional thing that we do with our whole
family. It's pretty cool. (Interview Ray November 10, 2015)
Although it is not a consistent annual tradition in his family, Daniel expressed that he is familiar
with this ritual and has done it before due to its prevalence in the Korean American community

My Favorite Family Traditions
Many families have traditions that they do every year and many families don't. Other families don't
have traditions to do for a holiday or even on a day. My family is one of the families that have
dozens of family traditions. We have traditions in almost every single holiday. We have traditions in
Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving. Some of our family traditions aren't even on a holiday
some are on days of the week. My favorite family tradition I love the most to do with my family is
during Thanksgiving. My family and I enjoy Thanksgiving a lot out of all the traditions we do every
year. I always have fun spending time with my family during this time of year. One of the favorite
family traditions my family does is around Thanksgiving. The day before Thanksgiving we all help
out in the kitchen and make dinner. Every Thanksgiving we have it's either at my Grandma's house
or our house. My Grandma always makes the pies the bread and the greens. I remember last year my
Grandma didn't finish making the greens, we almost got sick but my aunt Alisha fixed them Before
we could get sick. My mom and I season and make the Turkey while My Aunt Alisha makes the
yams. The yams are really good at making yams they are amazing. While we are cooking in the
kitchen my sisters play some music so we don't get bored in the kitchen.Meanwhile,e my little

Family Traditions In The Interlopers By Robert Frost
When family traditions or arguments are started, they often continue on for a long while, and most
of the time, they do more harm than good. In "The Interlopers" by Saki, two neighbors go into the
forest to fight to the death over the land they both think they deserve. And in "Mending Wall" by
Robert Frost, two neighbors have to rebuild a wall between their lands every spring, even when one
of the neighbors thinks it's not necessary. Saki and Frost use conflict, metaphors, and
characterization to convey that family traditions sometimes create barriers that divide people and
cause unnecessary hatred. For example, there was a lot of conflict between Georg Znaeym and
Ulrich von Gradwitz in The Interlopers because of a family argument that has been going on for
years over the land they live on. They hate each other so much, that they even ran into the forest and
tried to kill each other. "Death and damnation to you, Ulrich von Gradwitz" (Saki, The Interlopers)
Because of the lawsuit that went on between the two families over the land they live on many years
ago, they now are fighting and literally trying to kill each other because of something caused by
their families. Another example of how traditions can divide people is in Mending Wall, because the
main character just wants to get rid of the wall, but his neighbor refuses to get rid of it. "My apple
trees will never get across and eat the cones under his pines, I tell him. He only says, 'Good fences
make good neighbors.'"

Family Food Traditions
Family Food Traditions Eating brings people closer together everyday, and for everyone, there are
important memories that have been created because of food. Whether it's a formal dinner, or an
informal picnic, there will always be special bonds between people because food was involved. We
need to have traditions with food because they form and strengthen the bonds between us. There are
holidays in every culture where the food is the focal point. For example, the most important tradition
involving food in the U.S. is Thanksgiving. According to a 2015 poll, 95% of people in the U.S.
spend Thanksgiving with their families."Thanksgiving by the Numbers." Fox Business, Fox
Business, 23 Nov. 2016. This is because people in the U.S. grew up making memories with their
families, and they want to make more memories with their children. These traditions are important
to people because they make them nostalgic, so it's necessary for people to take a break and spend
time with their families. To relate the topic of nostalgia with food to my life, I recall a cherished
memory I have about making enchiladas with my grandma when I was nine. My mom's father is
hispanic, but her mother is not, so she learned how to make hispanic food just for him. I have always
admired this, because she learned how to do this just to make my grandpa happy. She made us many
hispanic dishes, but my favorite is still her enchiladas. I still remember the smell of the chicken and
beef that my grandma had prepared

quinceañera. My parents invited friends and family members to celebrate this happy occasion. In a
mexican culture they do a quinceañera to show the transformation of a young girl into womenhood.
The quinceañera is the last party to show that the girls are no longer little girls in the eyes of society.
My quinceañera dress was a aqua puffy cloud. The music was blasting it could be heard

This tradition was started about 17 years ago when our two families just wanted to hang out more
and have fun and now it goes every year and gets us close to each other all over again even though it
is always very strong. We have such good relationships now with their family and now we do a
bunch of stuff with them. My whole family, Me, Nicole, my mom, and my dad all love it down there
and we keep going back and always find new stuff even though it is very hard. It is my dad's all time
favorite place and the same can go for me. The Mangold family, Mike, Judy, Michael, Erica, Ryan,

Essay on Impacts Of Family Traditions And Religion In India
Impacts of Family Traditions and Religion in India
Family traditions and religion greatly impact the lives of many people in India. These elements of
culture are reasons that form the way that Indians lead their lives. Both factors make up what type of
person that individual will become. That is the reason why religion and family traditions are so
valued in Indian society.
Religion is probably the most definitive factor in the way that an Indian will lead his life,
particularly if they practice Hinduism. In Hinduism this person must follow a strict set of rules
called Dharma. These rules state how this person shall lead his life. They state that each person must
follow their Dharma at all costs. For example if their Dharma tells them to ... Show more content on

This caste system also allows patriarchal rule, which greatly limits the roles of women in, the Indian
society.
This patriarchal role of males in the Indian family allows for all the power to be placed on the father
of the household. This power can be abused which I would assume happens with the children in
these families. The oldest male child has the authority to boss around his other siblings, and in the
death of his father he then becomes the leader of the household. This could lead to many harsh or
unfair ruling by older siblings or by other members of society. This would lead for the younger
sibling to have to adjust greatly as they grow into adulthood. These rules that govern Indian
household are often strict and are always final. This is accepted by all.
Another deciding factor in what shapes the lives of Indians are the strict rules of their religions such
as not crossing water or eating beef. Also not cutting their hair is another religious rule that must be
followed for Sikhs. These rules can limit ones personal freedom or civil rights as in the case for
women.
The effects of Hinduism that effect society are very clear to Indians. One good example of this is
that many Hindus go hungry everyday but yet the let cows roam. This seems awkward to me
because I am and outsider but to Indians this is and unchangeable law that must never be broken.
There are other more subtle things that

My Family Traditions
Family, they are single–handedly the most important aspect of your development into an
independent adult. I've grown up in a white suburban neighborhood, and my hometown is in
Champlin, Minnesota. My life is heavily influenced by my family and family traditions such as
celebrating Christmas and having Easter egg hunts. Childhood is the most crucial part of everyone's
life. It's also the most critical time for learning and because of this, while you're growing up, you
tend to absorb a tremendous amount of information. Parents are a major force in a child's
development, and they instruct what is right and what is wrong. The ideas and traditions of parents
typically pass on to you, and then to your children. These ideas and traditions will be a major key in
helping you find who you are as a person. In the past two years, I've come to realize that my family,
family traditions, and the food I consume has transformed me into the jolly, independent, young
adult.
Traditions and celebrations such as Easter and Christmas have been a valuable reason for helping
me find my identity. As a child, I would be awoken by my sister on a chilly Christmas morning, and
it's one of the most incomparable feelings in the universe. Realizing that it's Christmas gives the
biggest energy boost imaginable. Dashing out of my room, I run downstairs and catch a glimpse of
all the presents for myself, and because of this, Christmas has taught me the holiday spirit and how
to be an extremely jolly person.

and compassion.
Three years ago, I was lucky enough to travel to Ethiopia. There, I participated in what is now my
most treasured family tradition. As a way to celebrate the upcoming Ethiopian Christmas, my family

Hanukkah And Family Traditions
For my family and I, Hanukkah is the holiday that represents family and religious traditions. We

However, Hanukkah has a long and powerful story behind it. The Hanukkah story describes how the
"Maccabees" rededicated the second Temple in Jerusalem and how the Menorah that was lit with
such little oil, lasted for eight whole days. It holds great importance to the Jewish religion and was
not always celebrated in the way that it is today. For example, gifts were not originally given, and
family gatherings only took place to pray in Synagogue.

Family Traditions In Bless Me, Ultima By Anaya
Family traditions vary from cultures and the way individuals were to be raised. The Lunas wished to
use the blood of Antonio's afterbirth to help with their farming which most likely represents the
family's attatchment to the earth. The vaqueros wished to burn the afterbirth and let the wind scatter
the ashes, which represents their carefree and exuberant lifestyle. They both struggle to resolve their
problems and deny the opinion and traditions of one another. The farmers stated, "It is blasphemy to
scatter a man's blood on unholy ground..." (Anaya 6). The vaqueros stated, "His forefathers were
conquistadores, men as restless as the seas they sailed and as free as the land they conquered."
(Anaya 6) . Traditions could create a discrimination between families due to the misunderstanding
of certain beliefs that one has. Eventhough both families come from completely diverse
backgrounds and cultures, they now share the same ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Antonio then exclaims that, "Sometimes I felt like Jason, like I wanted to shouth and cry, but I never

strive of taking pride in his family and also acting and behaving cautiously in order to keep shame
away from his parents. It can be reasonably justified as to why Antonio would feel like Jason and his
character is viewed as quite developed at his refusal to show his feelings in which are left behind at

The Sripathi Family Traditions
It is foolish to think following the community's beliefs and traditions is better than what one
believes in. In the novel "The hero's walk" by Anita Rau Badami when family traditions are broken,
many harsh consequences are made. In the Sripathi family, decisions made causes society. guilt and
female rights to be an issue.
Growing up in a south asian family comes with many restrictions. Society has a big role in what
families should and should not do. Especially in marriage. Sripathi is raised in a community where
having the same cast, background and family traditions is important when choosing a life partner.

Badami is shown how females rights is an issue. Women aren't allowed to do certain things. For
example work, leave their homes, and talk with certain people. Maya had told her dad how she was
going to marry a white man, instead of a Hindu man. Her dad had nothing to say but " If you persist
in doing this foolish thing...never show your face in this house again. Never" (113). Maya's dad
cares more about what others will think of him rather than how his daughter feels. Since he respects
his family's dignity more than anything and her doing something that is never done in the small
town, religion will bring lots of negative attention. Likewise, her dad believes the fact that her
daughters soon to be husband's people are very bad and have nothing good in them. It is awful to
say women face physical abuse and can have zero say in stopping the action being made. Simply
from being a female. When Sripathi and his wife had gotten in a fight he had "Without thinking
slapped her back, and she stopped crying abruptly" (36). Even Though both Sripathi and his wife are
frustrated with each other, that is not a justification for his violence. In this situation the wife can not
go and ask for help, As no one will hear her voice in what's wrong. No one will believe her either.

Describe one of your favorite family traditions and why it is meaningful to you. 500 words.
My favorite holiday traditions and querencias are Christmas cookie making and Thanksgiving Black
Friday shopping are my. The word querencia has the root of the word querer which is a spanish verb
that means to desire and to want. A querencia is something one desires or something that makes on
feel safe, comforted and free. The first tradition that comes to mind is Christmas cookie–making.
Around December 1st, the Christmas spirit begins to spread my around house. Christmas songs
slowly become more ubiquitous in our family playlists. Soon, every family member becomes a
sycophant and complements one another to ensure they receive the gift he or she wants. On Fridays
when I don't have much homework after dance, my family crowds around in the family room to
watch "25 Days Before Christmas". As the cold white snow falls across the town and we would all
watch, warm and excited. My favorite part of Christmas is baking the cookies for "Santa". My aunt,
mom, grandma and I bake cookies for the entire family and two special ones for Santa. At this time
we chat about gifts and shopping and share jokes. I loves this tradition because I love cooking and
most of all I love being with my aunt, mom and grandma all at once. I always feel compelled to take
two spoons and scoop out extra batter for myself while no one is looking. I cherish these family
traditions because it is a time where my

Asian Family Traditions Research Paper
Tradition seems to be something you have to follow and strive to accomplish. No one can follow
tradition since there are obstacles. My family has always been–in my eyes–a typical, Asian family.
One day a woman came up to me and my cousins, and asked if we were related. You see, I thought
my family was just average and Asian because that was what we were mentally. But physically it
was different. My cousins Raymond, Daniella, my little brother Richard and I all looked Asian. My
other cousins Cindy and Natalie looked Black. Not many Asian families look like this. They go with
the stereotype of black hair, brown eyes and,"yellow" skin. We, were not the ideal family. This
originates from my grandmother. Growing up, she was just my grandmother nothing extraordinary
or different; she just blended into the crowd of other Asian grandmas. Turns out she had three
husbands and had children with each of them. That's not normal. I was blinded by seeing only my

This marriage didn't go by traditional standards as well because not only was it an interracial
relationship but she was bearing his child before marriage. In an Asian family you would be
disowned, this is not an exaggeration you would be kicked out and financially cut. (It might be
cliché but Asians are strict.) I never thought the one to enforce the rule was the person who also
broke it. On the frontlines, her second husband had died. Lastly, was the man who I thought was my
grandfather, we had a picture of him in our shrine. It's traditional if a family member dies to have a
picture of them in your shrine to honor them and remember them in my culture. He was another
Vietnamese guy who my grandmother thought she loved. She married him, had his child and
eventually he died from alcohol poisoning. Seems like a very short synopsis, considering it consists
over 30 years, but this is all we really know about my grandmother's

The Importance Of Family Traditions
It's very important to set up a family tradition because it often tell a story about a family and it
identifies who your family is and how they're different from other families. Traditions can also
bridge together gaps between generations, and it unites family members to spend more time
together. Which is why some of our family traditions that we spend together would be
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New year's. On Thanksgiving Day, our family friends would always
invite us to their house. Since we we're always invited my mom and I would start days before
preparing the ham. We would slow cook the ham and prepare it. My mom and I would also make
sweet potato with marshmallows on the top (not sure what's It called). Then later at night we would
go to our family friends house with some other friends and we would start praying and saying what
were all thankful for, and would start to go around the table getting portions of food such as Turkey,
ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and mac and cheese. Then after we were done with our food we
would start doing our black Friday shopping. We would start by going to Best Buy and get the best
deals in the stores, then we would go to Memorial City Mall and shop clothing, buy gift cards and
buy stuff for my mom, dad, brother and girlfriend. Which is how my family would end our
thanksgiving tradition. Our Christmas traditions doesn't start on Christmas day but it starts on
Christmas eve. Me and my dad usually do our

Family Traditions And Thanksgiving
For this week's discussion, I decided to continue focusing on family relationships. Thanksgiving is
two days away; it will also be my dad's 50th birthday tomorrow so we are throwing a huge surprise
party for him. The holidays are a time we spend with family enjoying each other's companies. The
reason I chose this topic is due to the difference my family compared to my husband's side of the
family. After reading Chapter ten I could learn more about the concepts to have a better
understanding of why that is and of the concepts involved.
As the holidays approach, I can't wait to spend time with my family, but it is difficult to enjoy
anything at my husband's family events. "My family traditions include immediate family getting
together, joking and laughing while telling family stories" (McCornack, 2013). Ever since my
husband's mom passed away in 2007 from cancer it has been difficult for his family to get together.
They don't seem to make spending time a big priority, in fact, my sister–in–law lives ten minutes
away, she will visit her sister who lives in the same town as us but refuses to come see her brother
until he goes to her house. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One thing important to remember before we visit with family is our family privacy rules. "The
conditions governing what family members can talk about, how they can discuss such topics and
who should have access to family privacy rules(McCornack,2013, pg.339). These are important
because if my cousin does something on the internet that isn't allowed and it sparks a conversation
in my family so my parents can tell us that, that isn't allowed and it isn't okay for us to be doing.
That conversation stays a family privacy conversation and only family members know or talk about
it. If someone else were to find out it could cause drama that we were talking about a family
member and that we used this example as a way to teach our kids what isn't

Analysis Of Family Tradition In Like Water For Chocolate
"You know perfectly well that being the youngest daughter means you have to take care of me until
the day I die." (10). This statement shows how Tita is being oppressed not by mama Elena choice
but family tradition. Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel concentrate into the stories of the
women of De La Garza. Tita the main character aim to find love, happiness and independent, and

anything in her power to stop Tita to fulfil her goals which is to find true love with Pedro. This
mother and daughter relationship was predestined since the day when Tita was brought up into this
world, and her father's sudden death. Mama Elena was the opposite of a loving, caring women she

Tita was born in a family with strict rules and traditions. It is tradition that keeps Tita and Pedro
apart. Even though Tita and Pedro are madly in love with each other. However, because tradition
demand that Tita the youngest daughter does not marry in order to take care for her parents. "For
generations, not a single person in my family has ever questioned this tradition, and no daughter of
mine is going to be the one to start". (10). Tita mother makes this statement to shows that she has
power over Tita life, she's not going to let anybody come between her decisions and explained to her
that tradition could not be broken. Later in the story, Pedro fails to gain Tita's hand in marriage when
he speaks to her mother. Instead Elena offer Rosaura the middle sister to marry Pedro in which
pedro agrees. "When you're told there's no way you can marry the women you love and only hope of
being near her is to marry her sister". (15) This news leaves Tita broken–hearted because she
imagines this could have been her, marrying her true love, having a future with him, and probably
having children with him. Instead she is doomed to served her

The Importance Of My Family Traditions
Throughout life many families develop habits that they continue each year. These habits are known
as traditions and many families have them. One thing I find when asked what is unique of my
family, is the fact that we have many traditions and are constantly finding new habits we form into
traditions. Traditions around the holidays are common for many families, as well as for my family
also. Many of the traditions that my family have are around Easter and Christmas, but there are also
many more that bring us together throughout the year.
Each year my family has a big Easter celebration. Growing up we would wait anxiously while the
older kids and adults would hide the plastic Easter eggs stuffed with candy and money. When the
front door opened we raced out onto my grandparents farm to find as many eggs as we could. As we
got older the egg hunting was just not as fun so my grandmother suggested that we do a decorating
contest. We could do anything we wanted to the eggs as long as we used the egg base. We still
continue on the egg hunt for the little ones, but often find ourselves trying to add on to replace the
missing piece of it. Even just this last Easter we added on to our fun festivities. We divided into
teams and did an egg scavenger hunt. We all loved it and have decided to make it an annual
tradition.
For Christmas the constant traditions are no different. My family loves Christmas and enjoys getting
to spend the time together. For us the celebration starts early, as

My Family Tragy : Essay, And Family Traditions
In order, for my family to stay united we do family traditions such as going out on the lake, "Family
Friday", and mudding. There is nothing like quality family time than being slung off the tube like a
tsunami coming through and you're wiped away. The lake gives me a feeling that I can't just help but
smile and have fun with my family. "Family Friday" is a name we made for one of our family
activities where we all hang outside the house. We barbecue on the grill, play pool, and most of all
cherish and love one another. My family is mostly from the country being raised as "rednecks" what
some people would call it. We're one of those families who instead of getting mad when thrown in
mud or gets dirty we smile and laugh. One of our favorite activities to do is take our four wheelers
out and drive them straight through the mud pit with no hesitation. Once again, family time is
important for a striving family which is why we go out on the lake, have "Family Friday", and go
mudding.
Lake days with my family not only make me feel relaxed but they make me forget about any
problems elsewhere and just enjoy the day and my family. We go tubing behind the boat,
wakeboarding, and skiing. We get all our friends to bring their boats out and we all go to the middle
of the lake. We anchor the boats down and all talk to each other from boat to boat. The middle of the
lake is where my family and I feel we can all be together without any distraction and also be where
every single one of us is enjoying ourselves. The lake is only one of our family traditions but it is by
far one of the best traditions in my mind.
"Family Friday" is a time for good old family fun and barbecuing. Everybody gets home from work
and winds down. My mom will start cooking dinner while we all talk and hangout anxiously waiting
for our food. My mom will call everyone to dinner and we will all come running in the house like
jaguars catching their prey at top speed. We will have bone–sizzled barbecue ribs, baked beans,
coleslaw, and mac n' cheese. Later on, the adults all drink beer and hangout on the back porch while
us kids run around like wild hooligans. 99% of the time we make late night McDonald's runs at 1am

Abory Essay : My Family And Family Traditions
Do you have any family or friend traditions? If you do you should know what a tradition is and if
you don't or you are not sure. A family tradition is a time were you gather up with your family. Then
you eat, party, play games, or just hang out. The tradition would be that you do these things every
year on the same day or holiday with the same family members. Some of the time traditions are very
important to our lives since people can be put in situations where they can only see these family
members or friends one time a year. So the time that you have the tradition that would be the only
time that they could see them. Now I am going to tell you about some of the traditions that me and
my family have together each year.
Most people have a family tradition, and some people may not have a family tradition. It's ok if you
don't, but I do so I am going to tell you about my family traditions. One of my family traditions is on
thanksgiving. I go to one of my grandmas house and my mom, brother, grandma, grandpa and I all
hangout. Then we start to cook, and when we cook everyone gets a changes to participate in the
cooking. Right before the dinner is finished my brother and I set the dinner table so it is ready when
it's time to eat. After all the food is done we set it all up on the dinner table. Before we eat we pray
and give thanks for what we have. When we are done praying we spread the food around so that
everyone has something of everything they want. Then we eat, after we

My Family Tradition At The Slopes Of Rural Switzerland
Every family has different traditions stemming from their background. My parents come from two
significantly different backgrounds. My mother hailed from the slopes of rural Switzerland while
my father was a military child growing up in a multitude of places, but mainly, from the East coast.
My parents tried to pass on elements of their childhood traditions on to my sister and I. This created
a very unique new family tradition which mainly emphasized the values of punctuality, the
appreciation of nature, and the importance of democracy. One of the major three ideas of my
family's tradition is punctuality, it is the difference between showing you respect someone else or
that you don 't. I remember many times where we were early to someone 's house, so we waited
around the corner so as not to arrive early and 'startle' the people we were coming to visit. I used to
always laugh at my mother since what good can two minutes do, but I have started to notice that
now, I too will wait close to my destination so I can easily get to it at the agreed upon time has
arrived. This has changed me majorly as I too know wait around corners unordered to not be early or
late. This has led me to quickly draw while waiting in order to pass the time. It has probably been
one of the main sources for my love of both maps and flags as I could quickly start drawing them
and pick up at a later point with relative ease. I have changed this tradition by convincing my
parents that we don 't have

The Importance Of Tradition In Shirley Jackson's The Lottery
Following Tradition
When one thinks of the word tradition, the thought that often comes to mind is a positive one, such
as the thought of Christmas dinner at grandma's house or church on Easter Sunday. Most of these
traditions we follow blindly, meaning that it is just something we do even if we do not remember
why. According to the Merriam–Webster Dictionary, a tradition is "an inherited, established, or
customary pattern of thought or action" (757). Since it is inherited, we do not really have a say in
receiving it or not. It is expected that we continue the tradition because that's what our ancestors
have done. While following a long line of tradition can be truly great, when the reason for the
tradition becomes blurred it can become harmful. In Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery," blindness can
be undesirable when following a tradition and can make that tradition dangerous.
My family has many traditions that we practice. As I mentioned before we go to Church on Easter
Sunday. Many little details make this tradition the tradition that it is. The whole family gets dressed
up in their very best and as a family we go to mass and praise Jesus. After mass, we stay dressed up
and meet our relatives at Café 422 for a giant Italian meal. Once we all are too stuffed to take in
anymore, we retreat to my aunt's house where we can finally get into comfortable clothing and hang
out in the living room usually playing some type of game or watching a movie. For me, I follow this
tradition

family traditions, the children and even the extended family members are not told why a member of
the nuclei family is ill. When my father who was residing in another country had a stroke; the
children were not timely informed. The concern was that it can disrupt school activities, knowing
that all the children are in college in addition to the cost of travelling from one continent to another
continent. Looking back now with the exposure to another culture and a professional as a nurse; I

Family Traditions and Practices
The regular practices and traditions in a family life have different forms and dynamics, because
every family structure and composition has different modes and standards of living. And it depends
on the changing aspects of a family that how they perform and practice certain traditions and
practices.(Wolin, Bennett, Jacobs, 1988) it can be classified in few groups and categories mention
below.
(a) Under–ritualized families: The groups of a people who are not interested to follow and celebrate
any ceremonies and traditions, in vacations or in free time. They do not involve and organize any
family events and festivals. Their domestic and household life is often seems to be blank, unfriendly
and cool. They live in society with other people but are least interested to participate in social and
cultural practices. These people are not considered very sociable, welcoming, and outgoing to make
any relations and contacts. Mostly these people live in a nuclear family style, individuals living
separate or often together but in a more democratic and independent way and they can decide and
spend their life according to their own will. (b) Families with Strict Practices: People that follow
traditions and customs very strictly in an inflexible way and do not tolerate or agree for any changes
in their routines, these people mostly have joint family system in developing societies and all the
close family members living together and share their economy in a collective way. Senior members

Mexican Family Tradition
Throughout my life, being Hispanic has always meant family and unity. I was born into a Mexican
family on my mother's side; we would often gather together for family parties, events, and holidays.
Our lives are intertwined with each other; if something significant happened to an individual in the
family, a majority of the family would be involved. My family usually gathers together to celebrate
major holidays, but this past year I witnessed relatives assembling during a difficult farewell.
Celebrating Christmas Eve has been a family tradition for as long as I can remember. My immediate
family would usually attend Mass and drive to the house of my great–grandmother, affectionately
named Grandmama, to gather with my extended family, where homemade tamales were eaten and
gifts were placed under the Christmas tree. However, Christmas Eve of 2015 was spent in the
hospital with my dying Grandmama. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

evening. Despite difficulties, my family came together and celebrated what mattered with
Grandmama for the last time. Weeks later, sorrow spread throughout all branches of the family.
Grandmama passed on and the family gathered once again for the funeral. Several relatives flew in
from Mexico and those from northern California returned. The funeral was filled with tears, but
there was also joy at seeing relatives whom my mother, aunts, and grandmothers had not seen in
many years. Although the reason for assembly was heartbreaking, my family, young and old, came

Family Traditions In North Korean Family
Family traditions are passed on from generation to generation, however they are not always static
rules. Tradition is like a living organism that adapts to change over time. In order to understand
modern North Korea's family customs, it is important to consider the tradition of the past. Before
North Korea's liberation from Japan in 1945, North Korean families operated differently than they
do today. Their ideology was founded on Confucius's principles of family, including "only a country
where family life was harmonious could be peaceful and prosperous" (Asia Society). The family is
an integral part of society the same way a cell is important to a body (Suzy, 264). The government is
even considered "one family" that everyone is a part of (Monday). Every individual in a family has a
role and every family has a role in society. The ideal family is modeled from Kim Il Sung's nuclear
family (Suzy, 268). It is clear that family is a fundamental priority in North Korean society.
Blood ties are particularly significant to North Koreans because of lineage (Kim, 2014). According
to the Center of Global Education, North Koreans consider themselves to be connected to their
ancestors as if a piece of them has always existed. As long as their heirs live, another piece of them
will always exist. Male kinship is considered to be most important because it continues the family
line. For this reason, families are patriarchal. Traditionally, the eldest male was the head of the
household and

Family Traditions For Dysfunctional Families Essay
Family Traditions for Dysfunctional Families In todays world there are at least 1 Billion families.
Which means there has to be at least 1 Billion family traditions. Family traditions can be many
different things but my family traditions all can relate back to dysfunctionalism. There are more
dysfunctional families in the united states than normal families. More than 50% of happiness comes
from dysfunctional families and still, the celebrate Birthdays, Religious Holidays and Casual
Holidays . Can you imagine Holidays being the root of our happiness. What is a dysfunctional
family? "A dysfunctional family is where the relationship between the parent and child are strained
and unnatural" (Artical 1). Dysfunctional families can range from many different things such as
failing to be a provider for their child or lack of emotional, phychological and/or physical needs.
There are also different types of dysfunctional families. Dysfunctional families can be because of
addiction, alcohol, no emotional support, religious fundamentalism and rigidly dogmatic beliefs,
overly possessive parents and sexaul abuse.
First on the list is Birthday. Every year this day is celebrated with cake and gifts. Sure, this seems
casual but something makes it different. Once the kid reaches 18 whom ever brough them cakes, the
18 year old has to buy them for that person for 18 years. Crazy right? Well that is just the way things
go. Another tradion that we celebrate on birthday is the cutting of the

My Family Heritage : A Tradition Or A Person 's Background...
Heritage is a tradition or a person 's background. Events that happen in a person 's life can affect the
way a person 's views their heritage. A heritage in my family is to be there for each other whether in
good or bad times. Growing up in my household where my mom and her siblings, cousins are close
with that I grew up in a close–knit family. However, during the time of my brother 's death. My
family heritage is put to the test.
I remember the day I found out he had died like it was yesterday. It was in the summer, July of 2006,
and my birthday had just passed the 13th of June. I had just turned ten that year. I was appending the
night at my aunt and uncle's house, which I regularly did during that summer. We got up, and went
to Hardee's that morning. I ate two sausage biscuits and we had left soon after.
Next we get into the car to go to my grandma's house, but I noticed the car ride there seemed more
quiet than normal. My aunt told me, "Tyler had died," and I said, "Is it a Tyler I know?" She said,
"Yes." I said, "My brother Tyler.", and she said, "Yes." I remember thinking this woman is crazy, and
my brother is not dead. Then, the car ride got completely silent, and we pulled into my grandma's
house.
Getting out of the car I could feel something was different. I begin to slowly walk up the stairs, and
the first thing I could see was my cousin crying. Then, I looked into the dining room and I see my
grandma, my granny, and my brother's grandma sitting ad

  • 5. Like Water For Chocolate Family Tradition Essay In the novel Like Water for Chocolate, food and Mexican family traditions are the main focus of the book. Esquivel uses food recipes from her Mexican heritage passed down from generation to generation to tell a story. The story takes the reader on a complex journey with the De la Garza family showing how the enjoyment of cooking family recipes brings honor to their ancestors, as well, as, hardship from family traditions by causing the youngest child from marrying and finding true love. Throughout the novel, the De la Garza family enjoys many family traditional food recipes, but with that came an unexpected recipe of traditional disaster. As in the novel, Like Water for Chocolate, I also have experienced a family tradition where the food is delicious but the tradition has left a bad taste in my mouth. Every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Esquivel argues that some family traditions can determine the outcome of your life and if you do not like that direction you need to fight to change the family tradition. Throughout the novel Tita is required to obey the family traditions, which is to care for your matriarch (Mama Elena) until she dies. Tita always feels trapped because of family traditions which causes her to make decisions that don't make her happy. Esquivel writes, "If intends to ask for your hand, tell him not to bother. He'll be wasting his time and mine too. You know perfectly well that being the youngest daughter means you have to care for me until the day I die" (10). It was obvious to Mama Elena that Tita was having feelings for Pedro because she asked Mama Elena if Pedro could come to the home. Tita's comment caused Mama Elena great frustration and anger because Pedro wanted to marry Tita and Mama Elena was not going to break the family tradition and allow Tita to start a relationship with Pedro. Another example, of how "tradition" many times becomes a recipe of disaster ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. My Favorite Family Tradition What is your favorite family tradition? Maybe it's family Christmas, or family Thanksgiving. For me it is deer hunting. My family has been deer hunting in the same place for the last 25 years. It all started with my grandpa going hunting with his friends. Then when my uncle got old enough to deer hunt he starting going too. Once my dad started dating my mom he started going out hunting with my grandpa too. Deer camp slowly grew until they had eight guys out there all hunting everyday. Then my grandpa died and a lot of the people stopped coming out. This was before I ever hunted, but when I did I could tell that there were lots of good memories, and history in that place. Even now when we drive down the road my dad or my uncle will say, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... * * * I had taken the day off of school, and my uncle took the day off of work so that we could go hunting a day earlier. We woke up at 5 a.m. to get into the stand by sunrise. Anybody that has been deer hunting since they were a kid knows how difficult it is to sit in a stand for hours when you are ten years old. I had managed to sit in the stand next to my uncle for two hours before we decided to go get breakfast. Two hours might sound like a long time to some people, but my uncle can sit in the woods for 11 hours straight and have the time of his life. However, that was not the case for me. We crawled out of the woods and got in the truck to go back to camp. The road that we hunt on is a single lane road that is about four miles long with a deep ditch on the north side, and a very shallow ditch on the south side. The woods is at most 20 feet from either side of the road, so you are pretty immersed in wilderness. As we were driving back to camp my uncle was scanning the woods as we drove and he saw a deer in the woods. He drove by and stopped so we didn't spook the deer. Something I didn't know that you were supposed to do until that point. We quietly get out of the vehicle out and I grabbed my gun. I couldn't freehand shoot because I wasn't strong enough to hold the shoot the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. My Family Traditions My family has a lot of different traditions, but one stands out more than the others. The holiday I am talking about is Christmas. My family has always celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. We start the celebration by going to our church's Christmas Eve service. During this service, we sing Christmas songs and watch a video of the first Christmas. After the service, all my family goes to my grandparents' house to open presents and have supper. The meal is different than most Christmas meals. All of my family members bring an appetizer instead of bringing a main dish. One of my cousins is Haitian and one of uncles is Italian, so we have a lot of different cultures represented. My favorite is my uncle's meatballs. Once we eat we have two different places to sit. One is called the kids' room and the other is the adult room. You are supposed to sit at the kids' table if you are not married. Once we have finished eating we all head to the living room to open presents. Before we open presents, one of my younger cousins reads a Christmas poem. A different cousin reads the story every year. When it is finally time to open presents, we always open them one person at a time and always go from youngest to oldest. We go one at a time because my grandma likes to see what everyone got. Once everyone has opened their presents, my grandma tries to recruit some people to play bingo. She likes being the person who calls out the numbers because that's what her mom always did. We have been doing all of these things for as long as I can remember. My dad says they have been doing things this way for the last 40 years. My grandma is the main person that has been carrying on these traditions. I would say my grandmother is the glue to our family so everyone follows her lead. I think that my other family members are so used to doing these things that they will continue to do them in the future. I would say I am a participant in this tradition. I am one of the younger grandchildren, so I do not say much or try to change anything. If I did offer a new idea, I do think my grandma would consider it. My whole family takes part in this tradition. I have six aunts and uncles and twelve cousins, so my family is pretty big. Everyone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Aging Tradition : Family Dinner : A Dying Tradition Family Dinner: A Dying Tradition The era of dining as a family is becoming as extinct as the dinosaurs. I find this to be distressing and tragic because it personally affects my family. Just a generation ago, 80 percent of families ate their meals together every night and the numbers have dwindled since. Now, in 2017, 40 percent of American families eat dinner together, and even then, usually no more than two or three times a week (Food Marketing Institute). Within the last 20–30 years, something has changed. This tradition is dying because people now are constantly busy, becoming so caught up in life that they simply do not value family time as much as past generations. According to the study, "Correlations in Family Meals...", "Family meals offer routine and consistency and provide an opportunity to socialize children and teach them about communication skills, manners, nutrition, and good eating habits." There are numerous benefits that can come from just sharing a meal with your loved ones, yet so many people don't take advantage of this quality family time. Dining together is paramount in a family's relationship with one another; this time is used to catch up, bond and spend time together. I cherish every moment I can gather around the dinner table with my family because a lot of the time my family can't all make it to dinner anymore. I believe that this tradition needs to be revived and restored for the sake of disconnected families everywhere. Memories Around The Table ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Mexican And American Family Traditions On the fourth Thursday of every November, families gather together to spend a day filled with food and laughter. Thanksgiving celebrates the day the settlers and the Native Americans enjoyed their first meal together. However, my parents were both raised in Mexico and never had a typical yearly Thanksgiving celebration. Despite my parents home being Mexico, they started a family in America and decided to teach their children about both of the places they come from. A compromise between American and Mexican traditions formed and served as a family tradition until last year. A year ago, my family ate a Thanksgiving meal at my sister's parent–in–laws house. From the second someone gazes at the table, everything appears different. Although the shape of the table resembled the long wooden rectangular table my family owns, nothing else contained similarities. For starters, the red coated, ... For the most part, the interviewees listed the typical American holidays that their families celebrate, including Christmas and Thanksgiving. It was evident that some American holidays were less emphasized, such as Independence Day and Halloween. Julie expressed that the lack of observance of some American customs exemplifies her parent's transmission of Korean culture. For example, because Halloween is not a Korean holiday, Julie and her siblings never dressed up or went trick–or–treating like a majority of their friends. Instead, their parents took them to pumpkin patches, church functions or harvest festivals. Julie formulated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We're supposed to memorize something in Korean to say to them. After we do that, they say something back to us and give us cash or give the younger kids candy or a small gift. I'd say it's the most formal or traditional thing that we do with our whole family. It's pretty cool. (Interview Ray November 10, 2015) Although it is not a consistent annual tradition in his family, Daniel expressed that he is familiar with this ritual and has done it before due to its prevalence in the Korean American community (Interview Daniel November 14, 2015). My family is one of the families that have dozens of family traditions. We have traditions in almost every single holiday. We have traditions in Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving. Some of our family traditions aren't even on a holiday some are on days of the week. My favorite family tradition I love the most to do with my family is during Thanksgiving. My family and I enjoy Thanksgiving a lot out of all the traditions we do every year. I always have fun spending time with my family during this time of year. One of the favorite family traditions my family does is around Thanksgiving. The day before Thanksgiving we all help out in the kitchen and make dinner. Every Thanksgiving we have it's either at my Grandma's house or our house. My Grandma always makes the pies the bread and the greens. I remember last year my Grandma didn't finish making the greens, we almost got sick but my aunt Alisha fixed them Before we could get sick. My mom and I season and make the Turkey while My Aunt Alisha makes the yams. The yams are really good at making yams they are amazing. • 37. Family Traditions In The Interlopers By Robert Frost When family traditions or arguments are started, they often continue on for a long while, and most of the time, they do more harm than good. In "The Interlopers" by Saki, two neighbors go into the forest to fight to the death over the land they both think they deserve. And in "Mending Wall" by Robert Frost, two neighbors have to rebuild a wall between their lands every spring, even when one of the neighbors thinks it's not necessary. Saki and Frost use conflict, metaphors, and characterization to convey that family traditions sometimes create barriers that divide people and cause unnecessary hatred. For example, there was a lot of conflict between Georg Znaeym and Ulrich von Gradwitz in The Interlopers because of a family argument that has been going on for years over the land they live on. They hate each other so much, that they even ran into the forest and tried to kill each other. "Death and damnation to you, Ulrich von Gradwitz" (Saki, The Interlopers) Because of the lawsuit that went on between the two families over the land they live on many years ago, they now are fighting and literally trying to kill each other because of something caused by their families. Another example of how traditions can divide people is in Mending Wall, because the main character just wants to get rid of the wall, but his neighbor refuses to get rid of it. "My apple trees will never get across and eat the cones under his pines, I tell him. He only says, 'Good fences make good neighbors.'" ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Family Food Traditions Family Food Traditions Eating brings people closer together everyday, and for everyone, there are important memories that have been created because of food. Whether it's a formal dinner, or an informal picnic, there will always be special bonds between people because food was involved. We need to have traditions with food because they form and strengthen the bonds between us. There are holidays in every culture where the food is the focal point. For example, the most important tradition involving food in the U.S. is Thanksgiving. According to a 2015 poll, 95% of people in the U.S. spend Thanksgiving with their families."Thanksgiving by the Numbers." Fox Business, Fox Business, 23 Nov. 2016. This is because people in the U.S. grew up making memories with their families, and they want to make more memories with their children. These traditions are important to people because they make them nostalgic, so it's necessary for people to take a break and spend time with their families. To relate the topic of nostalgia with food to my life, I recall a cherished memory I have about making enchiladas with my grandma when I was nine. My mom's father is hispanic, but her mother is not, so she learned how to make hispanic food just for him. I have always admired this, because she learned how to do this just to make my grandpa happy. She made us many hispanic dishes, but my favorite is still her enchiladas. • 53. Essay on Impacts Of Family Traditions And Religion In India Impacts of Family Traditions and Religion in India Family traditions and religion greatly impact the lives of many people in India. These elements of culture are reasons that form the way that Indians lead their lives. Both factors make up what type of person that individual will become. That is the reason why religion and family traditions are so valued in Indian society. Religion is probably the most definitive factor in the way that an Indian will lead his life, particularly if they practice Hinduism. In Hinduism this person must follow a strict set of rules called Dharma. These rules state how this person shall lead his life. They state that each person must follow their Dharma at all costs. For example if their Dharma tells them to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This caste system also allows patriarchal rule, which greatly limits the roles of women in, the Indian society. This patriarchal role of males in the Indian family allows for all the power to be placed on the father of the household. This power can be abused which I would assume happens with the children in these families. The oldest male child has the authority to boss around his other siblings, and in the death of his father he then becomes the leader of the household. This could lead to many harsh or unfair ruling by older siblings or by other members of society. This would lead for the younger sibling to have to adjust greatly as they grow into adulthood. These rules that govern Indian household are often strict and are always final. This is accepted by all. Another deciding factor in what shapes the lives of Indians are the strict rules of their religions such as not crossing water or eating beef. Also not cutting their hair is another religious rule that must be followed for Sikhs. These rules can limit ones personal freedom or civil rights as in the case for women. The effects of Hinduism that effect society are very clear to Indians. One good example of this is that many Hindus go hungry everyday but yet the let cows roam. This seems awkward to me because I am and outsider but to Indians this is and unchangeable law that must never be broken. There are other more subtle things that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My life is heavily influenced by my family and family traditions such as celebrating Christmas and having Easter egg hunts. Childhood is the most crucial part of everyone's life. It's also the most critical time for learning and because of this, while you're growing up, you tend to absorb a tremendous amount of information. Parents are a major force in a child's development, and they instruct what is right and what is wrong. The ideas and traditions of parents typically pass on to you, and then to your children. These ideas and traditions will be a major key in helping you find who you are as a person. In the past two years, I've come to realize that my family, family traditions, and the food I consume has transformed me into the jolly, independent, young adult. Traditions and celebrations such as Easter and Christmas have been a valuable reason for helping me find my identity. As a child, I would be awoken by my sister on a chilly Christmas morning, and it's one of the most incomparable feelings in the universe. Realizing that it's Christmas gives the biggest energy boost imaginable. Dashing out of my room, I run downstairs and catch a glimpse of all the presents for myself, and because of this, Christmas has taught me the holiday spirit and how to be an extremely jolly person. ... For me, food is a magnet that brings together friends and family from around the world: it has been an element of my life that has motivated me to spread my values of generosity and compassion. Three years ago, I was lucky enough to travel to Ethiopia. There, I participated in what is now my most treasured family tradition. As a way to celebrate the upcoming Ethiopian Christmas, my family and I prepared meals to donate to those without sources of food or shelter. As I returned to the U.S., I knew that I wanted not only to share the entertaining elements of Ethiopian cuisine, but its culture of hospitality as well. Since returning, ... We open gifts just like everyone else during this time of year, and celebrate with each others company. However, Hanukkah has a long and powerful story behind it. The Hanukkah story describes how the "Maccabees" rededicated the second Temple in Jerusalem and how the Menorah that was lit with such little oil, lasted for eight whole days. It holds great importance to the Jewish religion and was not always celebrated in the way that it is today. For example, gifts were not originally given, and family gatherings only took place to pray in Synagogue. It was an unforgettable experience that is the butt of many jokes in my family and our circle of Jewish friends. My mom and I could not stop laughing because the tree she bought was about two feet tall and a string of lights we used was made for a full grown christmas tree so the "christmas tree" consisted mainly of lights. The Lunas wished to use the blood of Antonio's afterbirth to help with their farming which most likely represents the family's attatchment to the earth. The vaqueros wished to burn the afterbirth and let the wind scatter the ashes, which represents their carefree and exuberant lifestyle. They both struggle to resolve their problems and deny the opinion and traditions of one another. The farmers stated, "It is blasphemy to scatter a man's blood on unholy ground..." (Anaya 6). The vaqueros stated, "His forefathers were conquistadores, men as restless as the seas they sailed and as free as the land they conquered." (Anaya 6) . This can be portrayed in many ways, but take into consideration the continuous strive of taking pride in his family and also acting and behaving cautiously in order to keep shame away from his parents. My family has always been–in my eyes–a typical, Asian family. One day a woman came up to me and my cousins, and asked if we were related. You see, I thought my family was just average and Asian because that was what we were mentally. But physically it was different. My cousins Raymond, Daniella, my little brother Richard and I all looked Asian. My other cousins Cindy and Natalie looked Black. Not many Asian families look like this. They go with the stereotype of black hair, brown eyes and,"yellow" skin. We, were not the ideal family. This originates from my grandmother. The Importance Of Family Traditions It's very important to set up a family tradition because it often tell a story about a family and it identifies who your family is and how they're different from other families. Traditions can also bridge together gaps between generations, and it unites family members to spend more time together. Which is why some of our family traditions that we spend together would be Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New year's. On Thanksgiving Day, our family friends would always invite us to their house. Since we we're always invited my mom and I would start days before preparing the ham. We would slow cook the ham and prepare it. My mom and I would also make sweet potato with marshmallows on the top (not sure what's It called). Then later at night we would go to our family friends house with some other friends and we would start praying and saying what were all thankful for, and would start to go around the table getting portions of food such as Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans and mac and cheese. Then after we were done with our food we would start doing our black Friday shopping. We would start by going to Best Buy and get the best deals in the stores, then we would go to Memorial City Mall and shop clothing, buy gift cards and buy stuff for my mom, dad, brother and girlfriend. Which is how my family would end our thanksgiving tradition. Our Christmas traditions doesn't start on Christmas day but it starts on Christmas eve. Me and my dad usually do our ... Thanksgiving is two days away; it will also be my dad's 50th birthday tomorrow so we are throwing a huge surprise party for him. The holidays are a time we spend with family enjoying each other's companies. The reason I chose this topic is due to the difference my family compared to my husband's side of the family. After reading Chapter ten I could learn more about the concepts to have a better understanding of why that is and of the concepts involved. As the holidays approach, I can't wait to spend time with my family, but it is difficult to enjoy anything at my husband's family events. "My family traditions include immediate family getting together, joking and laughing while telling family stories" (McCornack, 2013). Ever since my husband's mom passed away in 2007 from cancer it has been difficult for his family to get together. They don't seem to make spending time a big priority, in fact, my sister–in–law lives ten minutes away, she will visit her sister who lives in the same town as us but refuses to come see her brother until he goes to her house. ... One thing I find when asked what is unique of my family, is the fact that we have many traditions and are constantly finding new habits we form into traditions. Traditions around the holidays are common for many families, as well as for my family also. Many of the traditions that my family have are around Easter and Christmas, but there are also many more that bring us together throughout the year. Each year my family has a big Easter celebration. Growing up we would wait anxiously while the older kids and adults would hide the plastic Easter eggs stuffed with candy and money. When the front door opened we raced out onto my grandparents farm to find as many eggs as we could. As we got older the egg hunting was just not as fun so my grandmother suggested that we do a decorating contest. We could do anything we wanted to the eggs as long as we used the egg base. We still continue on the egg hunt for the little ones, but often find ourselves trying to add on to replace the missing piece of it. Even just this last Easter we added on to our fun festivities. We divided into teams and did an egg scavenger hunt. We all loved it and have decided to make it an annual tradition. For Christmas the constant traditions are no different. There is nothing like quality family time than being slung off the tube like a tsunami coming through and you're wiped away. The lake gives me a feeling that I can't just help but smile and have fun with my family. "Family Friday" is a name we made for one of our family activities where we all hang outside the house. We barbecue on the grill, play pool, and most of all cherish and love one another. My family is mostly from the country being raised as "rednecks" what some people would call it. We're one of those families who instead of getting mad when thrown in mud or gets dirty we smile and laugh. One of our favorite activities to do is take our four wheelers out and drive them straight through the mud pit with no hesitation. Once again, family time is important for a striving family which is why we go out on the lake, have "Family Friday", and go mudding. Lake days with my family not only make me feel relaxed but they make me forget about any problems elsewhere and just enjoy the day and my family. We go tubing behind the boat, wakeboarding, and skiing. We get all our friends to bring their boats out and we all go to the middle of the lake. We anchor the boats down and all talk to each other from boat to boat. The middle of the lake is where my family and I feel we can all be together without any distraction and also be where every single one of us is enjoying ourselves. The lake is only one of our family traditions but it is by far one of the best traditions in my mind. "Family Friday" is a time for good old family fun and barbecuing. Everybody gets home from work and winds down. My mom will start cooking dinner while we all talk and hangout anxiously waiting for our food. My mom will call everyone to dinner and we will all come running in the house like jaguars catching their prey at top speed. We will have bone–sizzled barbecue ribs, baked beans, coleslaw, and mac n' cheese. My mother hailed from the slopes of rural Switzerland while my father was a military child growing up in a multitude of places, but mainly, from the East coast. My parents tried to pass on elements of their childhood traditions on to my sister and I. This created a very unique new family tradition which mainly emphasized the values of punctuality, the appreciation of nature, and the importance of democracy. One of the major three ideas of my family's tradition is punctuality, it is the difference between showing you respect someone else or that you don 't. I remember many times where we were early to someone 's house, so we waited around the corner so as not to arrive early and 'startle' the people we were coming to visit. I used to always laugh at my mother since what good can two minutes do, but I have started to notice that now, I too will wait close to my destination so I can easily get to it at the agreed upon time has arrived. This has changed me majorly as I too know wait around corners unordered to not be early or late. This has led me to quickly draw while waiting in order to pass the time. It has probably been one of the main sources for my love of both maps and flags as I could quickly start drawing them and pick up at a later point with relative ease. The Importance Of Tradition In Shirley Jackson's The Lottery Following Tradition When one thinks of the word tradition, the thought that often comes to mind is a positive one, such as the thought of Christmas dinner at grandma's house or church on Easter Sunday. Most of these traditions we follow blindly, meaning that it is just something we do even if we do not remember why. According to the Merriam–Webster Dictionary, a tradition is "an inherited, established, or customary pattern of thought or action" (757). Since it is inherited, we do not really have a say in receiving it or not. It is expected that we continue the tradition because that's what our ancestors have done. While following a long line of tradition can be truly great, when the reason for the tradition becomes blurred it can become harmful. In Shirley Jackson's "The Lottery," blindness can be undesirable when following a tradition and can make that tradition dangerous. My family has many traditions that we practice. As I mentioned before we go to Church on Easter Sunday. Many little details make this tradition the tradition that it is. The whole family gets dressed up in their very best and as a family we go to mass and praise Jesus. After mass, we stay dressed up and meet our relatives at Café 422 for a giant Italian meal. Once we all are too stuffed to take in anymore, we retreat to my aunt's house where we can finally get into comfortable clothing and hang out in the living room usually playing some type of game or watching a movie. • 138. Mexican Family Tradition Throughout my life, being Hispanic has always meant family and unity. I was born into a Mexican family on my mother's side; we would often gather together for family parties, events, and holidays. Our lives are intertwined with each other; if something significant happened to an individual in the family, a majority of the family would be involved. My family usually gathers together to celebrate major holidays, but this past year I witnessed relatives assembling during a difficult farewell. Celebrating Christmas Eve has been a family tradition for as long as I can remember. My immediate family would usually attend Mass and drive to the house of my great–grandmother, affectionately named Grandmama, to gather with my extended family, where homemade tamales were eaten and gifts were placed under the Christmas tree. However, Christmas Eve of 2015 was spent in the hospital with my dying Grandmama. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While past Christmas gatherings were full of joy, this time bittersweet feelings hung heavy. Several relatives drove down from northern California, so I was able to meet family members whom I had either never met or had not seen in years. Seeing Grandmama weak in bed, straining to speak, wrenched my heart. However, I had the opportunity to spend time with my relatives throughout the evening. Despite difficulties, my family came together and celebrated what mattered with Grandmama for the last time. Weeks later, sorrow spread throughout all branches of the family. Grandmama passed on and the family gathered once again for the funeral. Several relatives flew in from Mexico and those from northern California returned. The funeral was filled with tears, but there was also joy at seeing relatives whom my mother, aunts, and grandmothers had not seen in many years. Although the reason for assembly was heartbreaking, my family, young and old, came together to celebrate the life of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 146. Family Traditions In North Korean Family Family traditions are passed on from generation to generation, however they are not always static rules. Tradition is like a living organism that adapts to change over time. In order to understand modern North Korea's family customs, it is important to consider the tradition of the past. Before North Korea's liberation from Japan in 1945, North Korean families operated differently than they do today. Their ideology was founded on Confucius's principles of family, including "only a country where family life was harmonious could be peaceful and prosperous" (Asia Society). The family is an integral part of society the same way a cell is important to a body (Suzy, 264). The government is even considered "one family" that everyone is a part of (Monday). Every individual in a family has a role and every family has a role in society. The ideal family is modeled from Kim Il Sung's nuclear family (Suzy, 268). It is clear that family is a fundamental priority in North Korean society. Blood ties are particularly significant to North Koreans because of lineage (Kim, 2014). According to the Center of Global Education, North Koreans consider themselves to be connected to their ancestors as if a piece of them has always existed. As long as their heirs live, another piece of them will always exist. Male kinship is considered to be most important because it continues the family line. For this reason, families are patriarchal. Traditionally, the eldest male was the head of the household and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Events that happen in a person 's life can affect the way a person 's views their heritage. A heritage in my family is to be there for each other whether in good or bad times. Growing up in my household where my mom and her siblings, cousins are close with that I grew up in a close–knit family. However, during the time of my brother 's death. My family heritage is put to the test. I remember the day I found out he had died like it was yesterday. It was in the summer, July of 2006, and my birthday had just passed the 13th of June. I had just turned ten that year. I was appending the night at my aunt and uncle's house, which I regularly did during that summer. We got up, and went to Hardee's that morning. I ate two sausage biscuits and we had left soon after. Next we get into the car to go to my grandma's house, but I noticed the car ride there seemed more quiet than normal. My aunt told me, "Tyler had died," and I said, "Is it a Tyler I know?" She said, "Yes." I said, "My brother Tyler.", and she said, "Yes." I remember thinking this woman is crazy, and my brother is not dead. Then, the car ride got completely silent, and we pulled into my grandma's house. Getting out of the car I could feel something was different. I begin to slowly walk up the stairs, and the first thing I could see was my cousin crying. Then, I looked into the dining room and I see my grandma, my granny, and my brother's grandma sitting ad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
