This document provides information on the production technology of strawberries. It discusses the botany of strawberries, noting they are monoecious plants in the rose family. Several common varieties are mentioned such as Ofra, Chandler, and Seascape. The document outlines ideal growing conditions for strawberries, including soil preparation and amendments, planting methods, irrigation, mulching, pruning, harvesting, pests and diseases. Strawberries require frequent irrigation when young and produce highest yields at temperatures between 16-27 degrees Celsius.

2. INTERDUCTION:-
It is also known as the queen of fruit.
It is most important soft fruit.
Strawberry production give the return in
shortest time than any other fruit.
It is the best natural source of anti-oxidant.
It is promote the bone health.
It is rich in mineral Ca,P and K.
3. BOTANY:-
Scientific Name – Forgaria ananassa
Family – Rosaceae
It is a Monoecious plant.
Pollination occurs by both self and cross.
4. Soil & CLIMATE:-
Grown in temperate and sub-tropical
condition
Sensitive to frost and injury.
Dormant during winter.
Growth resumes during spring.
Soil well-drained , high in organic matter
& slightly acidic.
Optimum PH-(5-6.5).
Flowering and fruiting at 16-27 C gives
better yield.
6. PROPAGATION:-
Runners is the most common method used
in strawberry propagation.
PLANTING:-
Soil preparation start 1month before
planting.
Creates beds-hill or matted rows or
raised for better drainage.
7. Hills-transplanting is done in March-April.
Spacing depends on variety and type of
cultivar.
Usually 30*60.
MANUREING AND FERTILIZER:-
For annual cropping 70-80 ton
FYM/ha,40kg P and 80 kg K/ha.
For pre-planting 20 tons/ha,20:40:40
npk/ha as basal dressing.
Urea (2%),zinc sulphate (0.5%) is
beneficial for
higher yield.
8. IRRIGATION:-
Strawberry being shallow rooted plant
requires Frequent irrigation.
First 2months-twice per week.
Third month weekly ,forth and fifth
months every 2weeks.
WEEDING:-
Manual weeding and Herbicides use.
9. MULCHING:-
Minimize freezing injury ,suppress weed
growth , reduce soil erosion.
Organic mulch or inorganic mulch can be
used.
TRANING AND PRUNING:-
Bud & shoot thinning removal of 1-2
buds improves the fruit yield and quality
Application of GA (50PPM) & 20PPM
NAA induces flower and fruiting.
10. HARVESTING:-
Strawberries are ripe when red colour
covers the fruit.
Harvested daily , early and conditions.
Average yield 8-12tons/ha
Harvested by hand.
It can stored only 5-7 days at 0c and
95%RH.j
11. PEST AND DISEASE:-
1. Strawberry Root weevil
2. Hairy Caterpillar(Defoliate leaves during
June - July )
3. White grubs and cut worms
4. Red spoder mites
DISEASE AND CONTROL:-
Black Root Rot – Caused by water
logged
Leaf spot , grey mould , Red scale .
