WHAT IS PRECEDE-PROCEED MODEL?
PRECEDE-PROCEED was developed for use in public health.
Its basic principles, however, transfer to other community issues as well. As a result, we’ll treat
it as a model not just for health intervention, but for community intervention in general.
And in fact, PRECEDE/ PROCEED focuses on the community as the wellspring of health
promotion.
PRECEDE-PROCEED is a community-oriented, participatory model for creating successful
community health promotion interventions.

Educational/Environmental Diagnosis and Evaluation.

factors that most clearly
influence the outcome

which of them are most
likely to be changeable.

2, you create
the objectives
for your
intervention.
• In Phase 3,
you identify the
predisposing, enabling, and
reinforcing factors that act
as supports for or barriers to
changing the behaviors and
environmental factors you
identified in Phase 2.

  • 2. WHAT IS PRECEDE-PROCEED MODEL? PRECEDE-PROCEED was developed for use in public health. Its basic principles, however, transfer to other community issues as well. As a result, we’ll treat it as a model not just for health intervention, but for community intervention in general. And in fact, PRECEDE/ PROCEED focuses on the community as the wellspring of health promotion. PRECEDE-PROCEED is a community-oriented, participatory model for creating successful community health promotion interventions.
  • 3. PRECEDE Predisposing Reinforcing and Enabling Constructs in Educational/Environmental Diagnosis and Evaluation.
  • 4. PRECEDE •As its name implies, it represents the process that precedes, or leads up to, an intervention.
  • 6. PROCEED •The name describes how to proceed with the intervention itself.
