• Saavedra’s expedition was dispatched, but like
the first two expedition, it did not succeed.
Saavedra and his men were held prisoners by
the Portuguese.

• King Charles I organized an expedition from
Mexico commanded by Ruy Lopez de Villalobos-
he sailed the Moluccas with orders to colonize
Philippines and spread the Christianity with the
natives.

Portuguese. But even he failed in his mission, he
gave our country the name Las Islas Filipinas in
honor of Prince Philip of Asturias (Late King
Philip II of Spain).
