featuresincludedare;bulletin,headline,copy,audioclips,voicers, wraps, live cross, and a two way.
The bulletin is an organised collection of news stories that will be talked about within the news
broadcast.Thiscan alsoinclude elements suchas;sportsreports,stockmarket information,weather
reports etc. In America the bulletin is usually called a newscast. In broadcasting the headlines are
short summariesof afewimportantstoriesthatwill be explored in more detail in the bulletin. The
copy is when the newsreader reads only the news and doesn’t include interviews, witness
statements or have anybody else speaking. Audio clips are when a news reader is reading a quote
but usuallythere isanaudioclip of the original quote that is usually played. Voicers are a recorded
report that contains the journalist’s voice and there is no actuality and it can be understood as a
recorded reader. Wraps are a recorded report in which a journalist’s at the beginning and the end,
an actualityisusuallyplayed in between so it ends up being that the report is wrapped around the
actuality. The live cross is when the live news is passed over to a correspondent that will be
broadcastinglive fromadifferentlocation.The locationof the correspondentis usually in the scene
of the event. Finally,the twowayisa live interview which is conducted by a presenter in the in the
studio with a correspondent in the field.
The news broadcast “world at one” is broadcasted on BBC
radio4. The target audience forBBCradio 4 is generally for
people over 30 covering everyone in the social
demographic scale. The radio show appeals to this
audience because it is formal and it involves news about
politics,sport,and other world news. The first feature we
hear is the audio clips within the first 13 seconds; the
feature used is an audio clip from Ed Miliband speaking
about launching the labour campaign. The technique was used in the headlines of the show; the
headlines includedstoriesabout;the beginningof the labourcampaign, George Osbourne attacking
labours spending plans, weather Ched Evans should be allowed to play football after rape
allegations. When the presenter was speaking about the headlines from the show she only gave a
brief descriptionof whatthe storyinvolves.Anothertechnique used in the broadcast is a live cross,
this technique is used 2 minutes into the broadcast and it is crossing over to their political
correspondentJamesLandon.The bulletinof the newsbroadcaststarts3 minutesintothe videoand
ends 7 minutes in.
The voicer feature was used 3 minutes into the broadcast and lasted till 4 minutes and 10 seconds.
During the voicer they speak about Ched Evans and weather he should go back to playing football
after his rape charge. 27 minutes into the radio show is the live cross which goes more in depth
about the who Ched Evans story but this time the reporter was outside the football club.
