P5,M2 Unit 1 Business Enviroment Essay
P5 – Describe how John Lewis would be influenced by economic factors in a time of economic recession and economic growth in the UK economy
The two economic environments that I would be describing about are recession and growth on the business activities of John Lewis. Growth occurs
when more goods are being produced and consumed, and also incomes are rising. During growth people spend more money on goods and services as
they have more money to spend and also businesses would invest more and hire more labour as it links to increasing demand. Recession however occurs
when people involved in business become more cautious so they cut their spending down and also cut back on their orders as well as making workers
unemployed or redundant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will benefit John Lewis as sales for the good quality products would be increasing which furthermore could lead to John Lewis recovering
from their losses if they were in one and go into break even or begin to start getting profits. John Lewis would buy more stock from its suppliers at
this period of the economic environment as when demand increases you must get more supply to meet that demand. Also John Lewis at the time
since they buy in bulk from their suppliers they can benefit from getting more stock at a good price that gives good value for money, as usually
suppliers would offer you extra amounts of stock if you buy in large quantities. During this period of time interest rates would be low compared to in
recession because there isn't as much financial institutions to try get as much finance as they can from small amounts of borrowings from their
company in this period as customers, business etc intend to borrow more money in this period of time as they are fairly financially stable, so to
encourage the businesses and customers to begin taking sources of finance they lower the rates. So John Lewis is more likely to start borrowing
sources of finance if needed then in the period of growth.
Recession affects the business activities for John Lewis because in recessions it

Internal And External Factors That Affect The Business...
The business enviroment are all the factors that affect the business operations and stability. There are two types of business enviroment; the external
and internal business enviroment. The external enviroment is unexpected and out of the control of the business because those are factors that the
business does not have power to control. The internal enviroment of a business includes factors that are inside the business which ones affect the way
of doing the operations inside of the business; however, the business has control over the internal enviroment factors. Both external and internal factors
are equally important and the decision taken in each of them can affect the business positively or negatively.
Business Environment Business environment refers to all the internal and external factors that affect a business' operations and success, how the
company function around its employees, customers, and management. The business environment constant changes; however, some changes are
unpredictable because it is challenging to predict what will happen in the future such as the social and economic changes. The business environment is
different from country to country, from place to place; the United States economy is different than the Chinese economy and that is just one reason that
makes the business environment different from other country. In addition, culture, preferences and tastes vary all over the world, and business needs to
adapt to meet the needs of the customers

Market structures
In this part of the report I will explain the different type of market structures I will give advantages and disadvantages for all and how they have direct
relationship with pricing and output decisions.
Monopoly
A monopoly in the market structure controls the industry; it is the one and only business in that industry. The entry barriers are very high a somewhat
impossible to get in and out of, they have no competition so can set quite high prices depending on the demand for the product and set government
regulations. Advantages for Monopoly is the business can make huge profit but as this would be an advantage for the business this would also be a
disadvantage as they have control over pricing they will set high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With easy entry and exit of the market there are a lot of businesses selling the same product or service at the same prices, businesses in perfect
competition are price takers they have little control over the prices of their product as there are so many small businesses in perfect competition none
has control over the industry. Disadvantages for perfect competition in the market is no businesses will have an upper hand on their competition with a
lack of product to choose from they are all selling the same product at the same price. An advantage for perfect competition is that the business will
know when the consumer's demands change from which they can respond to their wishes.
Monopolistic competition
Monopolistic competition in the market structure has many businesses selling similar but none identical products with free entry into the industry
businesses are competing against each other. The businesses in this industry have some control over the prices they charge but with none of the
company's being big enough to make a difference to the prices over the whole industry. Businesses must find themselves quickly in the market to know
if they are going to profit or loose from their investment. Advantages for monopolistic competition in the market are with no entry barriers
disadvantages for monopolistic competition it because they have some power over the market they can rise or lower their prices.
Market structure has a direct relationship with

For example: Vodafone is warning that if BT purchases EE their company will go into broadband as well, O2 is announcing that they may go into an
exclusive agreement with Three. The result of more telecom companies merging together can results in drastically lowering the prices in order to
attract customer. It can be beneficial for clienteles; however it can hurt organisations profits. From the other hand, "quad–play" may put some people
off due to lack of freedom–customer may be happy with broadband but unhappy with TV. In that case changing for different provider can be tricky.

–The Guardian Feb 02nd 2015
In 20th century air travel was exceptional and expensive; travel was restricted for wealthy individuals that tend to travel for special occasions. After
the II World War improved design has modernised the industry and allowed to carry more passengers. That resulted in economies of scale that
lowered the price of the ticket within reach of a regular person. Ryanair Ltd is an example of low cost carrier that revolutionised the airline industry by
offering short–haul flights around the Europe for the lowest fares (Ryanair, 2015). In similarity to other businesses, the airline industry is affected by
changes in its external environment. Ryanair as well as other low cost airlines can afford to cut the price of the ticket by reducing operating costs. One

OUTCOME 3
Give examples of being able to maintain legal and good practice requirements when assessing occupational competence.
C. In carrying out assessment of occupational competence, I would ask myself:
How effective was my assessment and feedback?
Was there anything I didn't anticipate?
How did I deal with it?
What went well?
What could I improve?
If I had to change anything what would I do differently?
I would ask the learner what they intend to do and how they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This would be a write up on underpinning questions when a range has not quite been met. This could also be a write up on a hair style that was
achieved, explaining how they went about getting the achieved look.
Insufficient evidence – If a learner hands back their assignment but has not met the criteria covered, they would be told there was insufficient evidence
to complete the assignment. They would be asked to add the required evidence making the assignment achievable.
Recognising prior learning – This would be when a learner has completed a unit in another qualification within the set time of the national standards. I
would check their certification for proof of this and get the learner to take the test of under pinning knowledge so they would not have to do the same
unit again. I would be able to document this in the learners log book with a RPL form, the form would need to be signed and dated from the achieved
date on the certificate.
C. To plan the assessment of occupational competence to address learner needs and current achievements.
In my assessment plan I would identify any specific need that the learner may have e.g. Dyslexia (I would check with the relevant department within
the training establishment to see what help could be offered to the learner i.e. extra time given for assignments and written tests). I would then agree
the level and extent of their current knowledge

Persuasive Essay Against Animal Captivity
Seaworld should be banned from keeping animals held captive
Keeping animals in captivity is an argument over the rights for the animals held captive at seaworld or marine parks around the world. Keeping
animals held captive is when large sea animals are captured from the ocean and kept in a small enviroment such as a tank or an aquarium that are used
for shows and entertainment living an unnatural life.Seaworld is a marine mammal park that puts animals such as whales and dolphins into serious
harm that can help in the killing of the species as whales are in danger of extinction. In this report i have found imformation on the affects of keeping

captivity may be possible as following the evidence of the Release of 3 dolphins into the wild after captivity and seen months later according to the
website UK.whales.org as cathy williamson states.Although she states that any animal released should be free of any behaviour that could affect
there survival in the wild and also beable to relearn life skills, like catch live fish and stay away from boats or dangers in a rehabilitation period. This
shows that seaworld animals should be given a chance to rehabilitate and be released into the wild.
It seems that some mammals may be more endangered in the wild after captivity as some orcas may be unable to survive in the wild after captivity
as they may be too mentally and physically scared after the habitat they have lived their lives in as reported on the website UK.whales.org by cathy
williamson They may also not beable to capture live fish again or beable to survive without human care as they have adapted to the captive
enviroment. This information shows that after keeping orcas captive they would be more endangered living in the wild as they wouldnt know how to

COMPETITIVE ENVIROMENT IN WORLD OIL MARKETS
OPEC Has Been Waring Its Role on Oil Markets
The largest organization to control and impact oil suppliers is the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), an entity which
associates with13 countries: Algeria, Angola, Ecuador, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and
Venezuela. The mission ofOPEC is to coordinate and unify the petroleum policies of its Member Countries and in order to ensure the fair and
stabilization of oil markets. OPEC controls oil prices through its pricing–over–volume strategy. According to Foreign Affairs magazine, the oil embargo
shifted the structure of the oil market from a buyer 's to a seller 's market.
During the 1970s, it was Golden age for OPEC. Due to Arab oil embargo in 1973 and he outbreak of the Iranian Revolution in 1979, after ten years in
taking control internationally, OPEC had rose its influence by stabilizing the crude oil price on world market.
Since 1970s, due to the shortages of oil supply and internationally increasing price of oil, old oil–consuming countries, especially OECD countries,
encouraged of improving energy efficiency and developed alternative energy sources, mainly coal and natural gas, to reduce crude oil demand.
Moreover, because of increasing oil prices, Non–OPEC countries, such as Russia, the United States and China had growth desires for oil investment.
Therefore, Non–OPEC countries' oil proven

Essay on Silent Spring
The following quote "The sedge is withr'd from the lake, And no birds sing," (Keats) seems like a very simple sentence with no meaning to it.
However, after reading Chapter 6 of
Silent Spring , I realized how loaded the comment is with meaning. The quote is describing humans and how humans treat the plants here on earth. The
quote describes a scene where humans continue to destroy plants because they feel that they are in the way or that the plants are not appealing to look
at. However, the plants that humans kill each day with chemicals and pesticides end up ruining the complete area and stripping it of the natural beauty
of the land. The situation cannot be fair when chemicals are used. Humans today expect that when they kill a plant ... Show more content on

Birds sang and took baths in it. When chemicals were used, the lake became contaminated and along with that the birds left that area. In the Chapter,
Carson describes a situation like this. It was a situation where sage was destroyed. When this happened the animals that used this sage slowly went
along with it. The quote "and no birds sing" is telling of after the area was damaged by chemicals and the sedge was withr'd, the animals that adapted
there also felt withr'd and damaged so they left. This left the area without birds singing.
Carson writes about the beauty of the land and plants. She also tells the uses of these so called "weeds" and why they should not be destroyed by
chemicals. Carson tells of a way that when the plants need to be removed, they can be removed safely without affecting the land around it the way
that chemicals do. Carson does not feel that there is hope for our future. The quote I chose to use tells of no hope either. The quote is telling that
this is what happens when chemicals are used. In the world today more and more chemicals are being produced to kill off certain plants. Today's
knowledge of chemicals is increasing and each day more people are replaced with the work of machines. These machines make it easy to spread the
chemicals across the land and can only do harm in this situation of our enviroment. Increasing pollution of these chemicals are also destroying the
ozone. When there are other ways to rid

For instance, Oji–Okoro (2010) in his study, the relationship between FDI and telecommunication growth in Nigeria, expounded that FDI influx
boosted the growth of the country's telecommunication sector tremendously. A host of research has been carried out to investigate the significance of
foreign direct investment on the economy of Nigeria; however, most of these researches are concentrated on the sector where the large chunk of these
investments goes to––the oil and gas sector. The low level of foreign direct investment in the agricultural sector might be one major reason why not
much work has been done to analyze the impact of FDI in Nigeria's agricultural sector. A sectorial analysis of cumulative foreign direct investment in
Nigeria from 1980–2007 is described in Figure 1. The major gap this study points out and intends to address is that, studies that have even attempted to
empirically study the impact of FDI in the agricultural sector of Nigeria use the FDI that is obtained in the entire economy 17 Journal of Economics

The Enviroment
Enviroment What are we doing to our environment? This is a question many people have asked but never quite been able to answer in the fullest way.
How do we find out the answer then you ask? By multiple sources. There's the 'scare' tactic, saying what could happen in the future if we don't change
our ways. There's the 'inspirational' tactic which spreads the word of all good that we can, should, or maybe even have done to our environment. And
last but not least, the 'fiction transformation' tactic which turns something that we would read ourselves or maybe to our children to open up our eyes
of what's going on. Why is this important to even know? Many different 'eco enthusiasts' express their research on the environment, this general tactic
is called ecocriticism. Ecocriticism is where authors analyze texts that embellish environmental concerns and study the various... Show more content on

Ecosystem is a biological community of living organisms/biotic components (plants & animals) and non–living/abiotic elements (sunlight, soil, air &

Bag Tax: The Consequences Of The Industrial Revolution
We, as a whole, have put a detriment on ourselves and our enviroment. The consequences of the industrial revolution and beyond are beginning to
show. Our beautiful rolling hills and plains have become a place for us to dump our garbage. Our kin can no longer enjoy many of the places that
the world has offered us. It is up to us to stop this process of destroying our enviroment. A simple tax would be a step in the right direction. A tax on
plastic bags being used in the stores and markets would do many things, of which are, deterring people from using them, aiding in federal funds, and
consequentially making people want to advance in their careers and job opportunities. The main idea behind a bag tax is to prevent people from using

businesses and business decisions making is changing consumer preferences. Urbanization and increased access to modern technology are giving
people new choices and a chance to pursue more modern lifestyle. These developments will create growth opportunities but also challenges for
organizations. Customers are always changing and organizations need to reevaluate their long–term consumer strategies in order to keep up with
changing lifestyles. A person's lifestyle is essentially who he is. A person's habits, beliefs, morals, and financial status combine to manifest how he

Reigate College

In this report I am going to investigate into Reigate College and evaluate into the business how different stakeholders in the organisation have an
impact on the college all together. Evaluating which of the stakeholders has the most power and those who have the least power and impact on the

If he did not play his role towards the college everything would go totally wrong and the college would lose their reputation they have today.
Teenagers would also be choosing to go to a different college as if the grades of the students at the college were gaining weren't up to the standards
they should be, people would then turn to look at other college's, this would then be a downfall for Reigate as they want as many people as possible
to choose Reigate college for the service they provide.
Government:
The Government work with the college to provide them with a budget of money which can go towards improving the process of the college for
example with the money the government give the college they can use it to improve the image of the college by adding more buildings to expand the
college to give students a wider choice around the college. Also the government provide the college with essential equipment to help enhance the
learning of the students as individuals, such as stationary etc. also as well as the government providing the college with essentials like stationary for
the students they also provide exam boards etc. without the governments input on the college they would suffer a lot as there would not be enough
money alone for the college to survive and help the students to succeed in what they want to do for their future career. As without money the college
cannot provide the service for the students at a high standard as they

The Dangers Of The Polar Bear
The polar bear ia a large bear that lives in the north. They are the second largest bear in the bear family, and they ha a unique white fur that
differentiates them from the rest of the bears. This white fur is not only their unique characteristic, but also an amazing tool that God has given them so
that they can survive in the wild. In order to better understand polar bear, pwople must understand their habit, their characteristics, and the dangers they
are facing. First of all it's a question that everyone cares, what do they eat? Their diet is depend on high–fat content in the seal fat, this is one of the
few stuff that can provide them enough calary to maintain their survival and to pass down their specie. The types of seals that they eat are usually
seals. Ringed seals for the females and little ones, and for the males, they will hunt the bearded seals which are bigger than the ringed seals. In the
good times when they have access to a lot of food, they may only eat the bludder and the skin of the seal because that's the fattest part. However,
when the time is not that good, they will also eat other stuff if they are avaliable. They will hunt whales if they are trapped, they are also acceptable
with small animals and carcass within their reach. Unlike some bears, they don't have the habit of storging food. After they finished eating, they will
leave the rest of the body for scavengers. Sometimes the scavengers might be other polar bears that failed their hunt. And it

Learning in a Different Enviroment Proves to Be Beneficial To Students
Many cultures come to the United States by way of study abroad programs, foreign exchange, and the sister city exchange. There are more than just a
few ways in which we as human beings can get a different perspective on methods to communicate and learn. I learned first hand how to take the best
methods from one culture and combine it with the accepted methods of my own. The city I grew up in, the high school I attended, and the sister city
program I became involved in helped nourish and develop my work habits, attitude, and drive to learn. After reviewing the short passage I feel that
learning is preceded by a personal process rather than a cultural process. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some methods of learning are more socially accepted in their culture. It took me as a person to decide which ones were a complement to my own
methods. For example, the attention to detail and the efforts to perfect whatever tasks they were performing was conclusive when I watched them. I
could choose to perform tasks incompletely and carelessly but now I pay greater attention to everyday tasks and ritually complete them. The time that
I spent in Japan has proven to be advantageous because everything that I do takes a combined course from their culture as well as my own. During my
stay in Japan I found myself adapting to this new environment with out a great deal of difficulty. If for any reason I might not have been interested in
the culture it might have been more strenuous for me as a person to understand, appreciate, and learn about the culture. I find myself using the
language ( although not fluently) even today when I come across Japanese people whether they are tourists or they live here. I am confident that the
knowledge I gained while in Japan will aid my future career in the importing and exporting business. As you can see there is an abundance of reasons
why it is great to learn in a new culture. There are, however, a small amount of disadvantages to learning in a new culture. The leading disadvantage
would be the evident language barrier. It may be extremely difficult for the new student to learn the language of the culture, but

Starbucks is one of the most recognizable coffee retail chains in the world. Their brand focuses on high quality coffee using specialized roasting of

Since, Starbucks has rebounded and in the 3rd quarter of 2011 has reported record sales and net revenues (www.Starbucks.com). The downward turn of
the economy was definitely an uncontrollable event that caused a threat to the company. However, it also provided an opportunity for the stakeholders
to re–examine their corporate structure and mission which forced them to make changes for the betterment of the company by increasing the customer
experience. I believe Mr. Schultz did an outstanding job of turning the company around during this time. Had he not made the changes that he did,
Starbucks may have failed. The political/legal segment focuses on the influences groups and organization has on the government and how the
government influences them as well. While this country is still faced with a down economy, Starbucks CEO, Howard Schultz, wants to set a trend
and "redefine the role of business in society" (Dolan, 2011). He is asking for companies to get involved in the education and training for society's
workforce in an effort to help decrease the unemployment rates and put people back to work. He believes it is the responsibility of the business
community "to serve the communities where we do business by helping to improve, for example, the quality of citizens' education, employment,
healthcare, safety, and overall daily life...." ((Dolan, 2011). In addition, The Starbucks Foundation is partnering with

The behavioral approach would view the origins of Jake's anxiety as being that of his enviroment. This approach infers that we can look to the cause

Erosion is unfortuanately present at Cronulla beach, the local government have tried to tackle this problem with solution such as dune stabilization and

is not recycled or incinerated ends up in America's landfills. Landfills that are not in proper working order can pose a serious threat to humans and the
environment, but ones that safely store all of their waste may possibly be helpful for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rock should be as nonporous as possible to stop waste from seeping into the groundwater, but one must be able to predict where the waste will go
if it escapes through the liner of the landfill.5
The next layer is the bottom liner of the landfill, which can be made of one or more layers of natural or synthetic materials. The liner is the landfill's
defense to keep the waste out of the environment. This liner can be made of clay, plastic, or a composite of plastic and clay soil. Natural liners, made
of clays and shales, often crack and allow the waste to enter the environment. In addition, some chemicals can soak into the clay, thus causing additional
harm to the environment.6 The Geomembranes, liners made of plastic, may seem like they are the best available today, but many household chemicals
can break down the plastic, and it can be easily punctured.7 Thus, like natural liners, Geomembranes may also allow waste to enter the environment.
Combinations of the different kinds of liners can be more effective than the use of a single material.8
The leachate collection system is what collects any water that has been contaminated by seeping through the waste in a landfill. Leachate refers to the
water that has been contaminated. If the system happens to fail for any reason, the leachate can contaminate groundwater, the source of many
communities' drinking water.9

How Food Is The Basic Survival Of The Organism Essay
Q1 Introduction: When an organism lives in an unknown enviroment, the enviroment changes which also tends to affect the organism itself. Some
of these changes are known as rewards or also refferred to reinforcers. When a particular behaviour is practised a reinforcement will apply as a
reward, which will create a likelyhood of the same behaviour to be practised by the organism. The most popular reinforcement for an organism
relates to biological processes which is food, because food is the basic survival of the organism because when an organism is hungry, food is a
reinforcement. Food has been an aquired an evoulutionary development of organisms and when food is used as a reinforcement, strengthens the
behaviour means the organism is, Ferster and Skinner (1957) describes it as "shapes up"(pp744). Shaping up organisms is a useful tool in this area so
that the organism can provide the same performance in many different enivroments and includes the differentiations of new forms of response from
reinforcements, this is then reffered to buliding skill. The overall concept was then taken to context with a well skilled chicken that has been shaped up
in the past, and was observed with three different schedules of reinforcements, one with Fixed Intervals (FI), Variable–Ratios (VR), and Differential
Reinforcements of Lower Rates (DRL). The scientific purpose of this experiment is to relate the nonhuman behaviour such as the chicken with a
human behaviours. Q2 Glossary: Law of

P5,M2 Unit 1 Business Enviroment Essay

  • 1. P5,M2 Unit 1 Business Enviroment Essay P5 – Describe how John Lewis would be influenced by economic factors in a time of economic recession and economic growth in the UK economy The two economic environments that I would be describing about are recession and growth on the business activities of John Lewis. Growth occurs when more goods are being produced and consumed, and also incomes are rising. During growth people spend more money on goods and services as they have more money to spend and also businesses would invest more and hire more labour as it links to increasing demand. Recession however occurs when people involved in business become more cautious so they cut their spending down and also cut back on their orders as well as making workers unemployed or redundant. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This will benefit John Lewis as sales for the good quality products would be increasing which furthermore could lead to John Lewis recovering from their losses if they were in one and go into break even or begin to start getting profits. John Lewis would buy more stock from its suppliers at this period of the economic environment as when demand increases you must get more supply to meet that demand. Also John Lewis at the time since they buy in bulk from their suppliers they can benefit from getting more stock at a good price that gives good value for money, as usually suppliers would offer you extra amounts of stock if you buy in large quantities. During this period of time interest rates would be low compared to in recession because there isn't as much financial institutions to try get as much finance as they can from small amounts of borrowings from their company in this period as customers, business etc intend to borrow more money in this period of time as they are fairly financially stable, so to encourage the businesses and customers to begin taking sources of finance they lower the rates. So John Lewis is more likely to start borrowing sources of finance if needed then in the period of growth. Recession affects the business activities for John Lewis because in recessions it ... There are two types of business enviroment; the external and internal business enviroment. The external enviroment is unexpected and out of the control of the business because those are factors that the business does not have power to control. The internal enviroment of a business includes factors that are inside the business which ones affect the way of doing the operations inside of the business; however, the business has control over the internal enviroment factors. Both external and internal factors are equally important and the decision taken in each of them can affect the business positively or negatively. Business Environment Business environment refers to all the internal and external factors that affect a business' operations and success, how the company function around its employees, customers, and management. The business environment constant changes; however, some changes are unpredictable because it is challenging to predict what will happen in the future such as the social and economic changes. The business environment is different from country to country, from place to place; the United States economy is different than the Chinese economy and that is just one reason that makes the business environment different from other country. In addition, culture, preferences and tastes vary all over the world, and business needs to adapt to meet the needs of the customers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Monopoly A monopoly in the market structure controls the industry; it is the one and only business in that industry. The entry barriers are very high a somewhat impossible to get in and out of, they have no competition so can set quite high prices depending on the demand for the product and set government regulations. Advantages for Monopoly is the business can make huge profit but as this would be an advantage for the business this would also be a disadvantage as they have control over pricing they will set high ... With easy entry and exit of the market there are a lot of businesses selling the same product or service at the same prices, businesses in perfect competition are price takers they have little control over the prices of their product as there are so many small businesses in perfect competition none has control over the industry. Disadvantages for perfect competition in the market is no businesses will have an upper hand on their competition with a lack of product to choose from they are all selling the same product at the same price. An advantage for perfect competition is that the business will know when the consumer's demands change from which they can respond to their wishes. Monopolistic competition Monopolistic competition in the market structure has many businesses selling similar but none identical products with free entry into the industry businesses are competing against each other. The businesses in this industry have some control over the prices they charge but with none of the company's being big enough to make a difference to the prices over the whole industry. The mission ofOPEC is to coordinate and unify the petroleum policies of its Member Countries and in order to ensure the fair and stabilization of oil markets. OPEC controls oil prices through its pricing–over–volume strategy. According to Foreign Affairs magazine, the oil embargo shifted the structure of the oil market from a buyer 's to a seller 's market. During the 1970s, it was Golden age for OPEC. Due to Arab oil embargo in 1973 and he outbreak of the Iranian Revolution in 1979, after ten years in taking control internationally, OPEC had rose its influence by stabilizing the crude oil price on world market. Since 1970s, due to the shortages of oil supply and internationally increasing price of oil, old oil–consuming countries, especially OECD countries, encouraged of improving energy efficiency and developed alternative energy sources, mainly coal and natural gas, to reduce crude oil demand. However, after reading Chapter 6 of Silent Spring , I realized how loaded the comment is with meaning. The quote is describing humans and how humans treat the plants here on earth. The quote describes a scene where humans continue to destroy plants because they feel that they are in the way or that the plants are not appealing to look at. When chemicals were used, the lake became contaminated and along with that the birds left that area. In the Chapter, Carson describes a situation like this. It was a situation where sage was destroyed. When this happened the animals that used this sage slowly went along with it. The quote "and no birds sing" is telling of after the area was damaged by chemicals and the sedge was withr'd, the animals that adapted there also felt withr'd and damaged so they left. This left the area without birds singing. Carson writes about the beauty of the land and plants. She also tells the uses of these so called "weeds" and why they should not be destroyed by chemicals. Carson tells of a way that when the plants need to be removed, they can be removed safely without affecting the land around it the way that chemicals do. Carson does not feel that there is hope for our future. The quote I chose to use tells of no hope either. The quote is telling that this is what happens when chemicals are used. In the world today more and more chemicals are being produced to kill off certain plants. Today's knowledge of chemicals is increasing and each day more people are replaced with the work of machines. These machines make it easy to spread the chemicals across the land and can only do harm in this situation of our enviroment. Increasing pollution of these chemicals are also destroying the ozone. For instance, Oji–Okoro (2010) in his study, the relationship between FDI and telecommunication growth in Nigeria, expounded that FDI influx boosted the growth of the country's telecommunication sector tremendously. A host of research has been carried out to investigate the significance of foreign direct investment on the economy of Nigeria; however, most of these researches are concentrated on the sector where the large chunk of these investments goes to––the oil and gas sector. The low level of foreign direct investment in the agricultural sector might be one major reason why not much work has been done to analyze the impact of FDI in Nigeria's agricultural sector. A sectorial analysis of cumulative foreign direct investment in Nigeria from 1980–2007 is described in Figure 1. The major gap this study points out and intends to address is that, studies that have even attempted to empirically study the impact of FDI in the agricultural sector of Nigeria use the FDI that is obtained in the entire economy 17 Journal of Economics and Sustainable Development ISSN 2222–1700 (Paper) ISSN 2222–2855 (Online) Vol.4, No.10, 2013 www.iiste.org rather than use the FDI that flows specifically to the agricultural sector. The question that then comes to mind is; what is the impact of foreign direct investment that flows specifically into the agricultural sector on the output and productivity of ... How do we find out the answer then you ask? By multiple sources. There's the 'scare' tactic, saying what could happen in the future if we don't change our ways. There's the 'inspirational' tactic which spreads the word of all good that we can, should, or maybe even have done to our environment. And last but not least, the 'fiction transformation' tactic which turns something that we would read ourselves or maybe to our children to open up our eyes of what's going on. Why is this important to even know? Many different 'eco enthusiasts' express their research on the environment, this general tactic is called ecocriticism. Erosion is unfortuanately present at Cronulla beach, the local government have tried to tackle this problem with solution such as dune stabilization and rip rap walls. Rip rap walls are when larged rocks are piled in a certain angle to catch drifting sand and protect the beaches from harsher waves and to protect buildings from high tides. There are also many programs which help to ensure the stabilization of dunes, these include the planting of new vegetation to combat erosion, fencing and designated walkways to prevent human interference. The main reason of dune stabilization is to slow down the speed of erosion. In 1974 the Cronulla beaches were at an all time low and was in a critical state, from this the University of New South Wales designed a new wall, a wall which is different from the conventional walls used to prevent erosion and transportation with these hexagonal concrete blocks weigh well over a tonne each to be used as a line of defence agiasnt the waves and erosion. The anglerfish have to adapt to the very little food source they have in the deep sea. They both have devoloped many features that can help them while they live in these extreme enviroments. Anglerfish adapt to very extreme envirorments which they live in. Anglerfish can expand their stomachs so that they can eat two times their size. This is really good because in the deep sea food is very scarce. So the fact that they can eat lager paportions is a very good adaption in their part. If they were not able to do that they would probally end up dieing. The anglerfish developed a relationship with a certain type of bacteria that can glow. That bacteria is in them but it stays in their esca. This is a good thing because that makes them be able to light their esca so that they can draw prey in and eat them. Landfills and their Effects on the Enviroment Essay Landfills And Their Effects On Humans And The Enviroment Every year Americans collectively create approximately 208 million tons of municipal solid waste, which breaks down to 4.3 pounds of waste generated per American per day. In addition to this normal waste, the United States produces roughly 279 million tons of hazardous waste per year.1 All of this waste has to go somewhere. Two good methods of waste disposal, infrequently used, are incineration andrecycling. However, any waste that is not recycled or incinerated ends up in America's landfills. Landfills that are not in proper working order can pose a serious threat to humans and the environment, but ones that safely store all of their waste may possibly be helpful for the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The rock should be as nonporous as possible to stop waste from seeping into the groundwater, but one must be able to predict where the waste will go if it escapes through the liner of the landfill.5 The next layer is the bottom liner of the landfill, which can be made of one or more layers of natural or synthetic materials. The liner is the landfill's defense to keep the waste out of the environment. This liner can be made of clay, plastic, or a composite of plastic and clay soil. Natural liners, made of clays and shales, often crack and allow the waste to enter the environment. In addition, some chemicals can soak into the clay, thus causing additional harm to the environment.6 The Geomembranes, liners made of plastic, may seem like they are the best available today, but many household chemicals can break down the plastic, and it can be easily punctured.7 Thus, like natural liners, Geomembranes may also allow waste to enter the environment. Combinations of the different kinds of liners can be more effective than the use of a single material.8 The leachate collection system is what collects any water that has been contaminated by seeping through the waste in a landfill. Leachate refers to the water that has been contaminated. If the system happens to fail for any reason, the leachate can contaminate groundwater, the source of many communities' drinking water.9 Finally, the cover is to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. How Food Is The Basic Survival Of The Organism Essay Q1 Introduction: When an organism lives in an unknown enviroment, the enviroment changes which also tends to affect the organism itself. Some of these changes are known as rewards or also refferred to reinforcers. When a particular behaviour is practised a reinforcement will apply as a reward, which will create a likelyhood of the same behaviour to be practised by the organism. The most popular reinforcement for an organism relates to biological processes which is food, because food is the basic survival of the organism because when an organism is hungry, food is a reinforcement. Food has been an aquired an evoulutionary development of organisms and when food is used as a reinforcement, strengthens the behaviour means the organism is, Ferster and Skinner (1957) describes it as "shapes up"(pp744). Shaping up organisms is a useful tool in this area so that the organism can provide the same performance in many different enivroments and includes the differentiations of new forms of response from reinforcements, this is then reffered to buliding skill. The overall concept was then taken to context with a well skilled chicken that has been shaped up in the past, and was observed with three different schedules of reinforcements, one with Fixed Intervals (FI), Variable–Ratios (VR), and Differential Reinforcements of Lower Rates (DRL). The scientific purpose of this experiment is to relate the nonhuman behaviour such as the chicken with a human behaviours. Q2 Glossary: Law of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
