2. INTRODUCTION
• The term ‘phycology’ is
derived from Greek
word ‘phykos’ which
means ‘seaweed’.
• It is the scientific study
of algae and also
known as algology.
• Phycology is a branch
of life science
3. GENERAL CHARACTARISTICS OF PHICOLOGY
• Eukaryotic
• Most unicellular but some multicellular
• Produce oxygen that is returned to the atmosphere
• Do not have true roots or leaves
• Mostly aquatic although some are found in soil or on tress when sufficient moisture is present
• Contain chlorophyll and carry out photosynthesis
• Cellwall was thin and rigid.
• No vascullar tissue
• Cellwall is made by celluloge and pectin.
• Reserve food starch.
4. CLASSIFICATION OF ALGAE
• Chlorophyceae
• Green Algae
• Example:Volvox
• Xanthophyceae
• Yellow green algae
• Botrydium
9. WHY BLUE GREEN ALGAE(CYANOPHYCEAE
CALLED CYANOBACTERIA???
BACTERIA
• Advent in arkiojig era
• prokaryotic
• Cell wall is made by peptidoglycan
• Amitosis cell divison
• In outer part of the body has mucilage cover
• 70s ribosome is present
• Chlroplast,andoplasmic reticulum,golgi
body,mitochondria is absent
• Attacted by faz

10. SPECIAL FEATURES OF ALGAE
• Algae as superfood
• 60% photosynthesis
• To produce light
• Sex organ are non-jacket
11. IMPORTANCE OF ALGAE
• As food
• To produce biofuel
• In industry
• As fertilizer
• In pisi culture
• To reduce environment pollution
• As producer in ecosystem
ADVANTAGE
12. DISADVANTAGE
• To spread plant disease
• Damages the deployment
• To linged Roads
• To create water bloom
• To spread fish deases
