2. Modification or mutilation?
Our topic will be about body modification and it’s effect on
the young people of today. This includes the prejudice and
decimation which is often speculated to be against
individuals with body modification. This includes how body
modification is judged in the job industry and in education
systems. We will explore both the advantages and
disadvantages of having body modifications such as
piercings and tattoos and whether it is really worth it to get
such modifications in today’s society.
Our target audience will be young adults who are looking
to get body modifications or have already got body
modifications. This will typically be a student, or also
parents of students, and young adults looking to go to
college/university.
This means that our documentary will be relatively formal
and purpose will be to inform and slightly entertain.
3. What we will include…
Facts and statistics about body modification in today’s
society – the rising number of people who chose to have
these body modifications and what effect this has on their
lives - and whether this affects them negatively or
positively.
Is it worth getting your body modification? We intend to
have this question answered by the end of the
documentary, presenting a balanced argument
throughout.
We aim to receive opinions from the public from vox pops
to experts in education fields and tattoo artists. This
means we will develop an overall opinion which is not
biased and representative of only a certain type of
person/group of people. We will be conducting random
sample interviews in Solihull and Birmingham to
document these opinions.
4. How we have prepared prior to
filming…
In order to prepare for our filming, we have produced a
documentary which we will be handing out to 20
individuals about their opinions and knowledge on body
modification.
We will find and explore articles from the internet who are
valid, reputable sources such as The Guardian whom we
will source statistics and real life case studies from. We
will also gain information from reputable tattoo artists and
piercers in Birmingham.
We will be planning to conduct interviews with individuals
who will only aid the audiences understanding of how
body modification is affecting young peoples lives today.
For example, we will be interviewing the Principle of
Solihull Sixth Form, who will provide us with his personal
opinion on students with body modifications.
5. Resources…
We will be using a camera, headphones,
and tripod will be provided to us by our
Media Studies teacher.
We will be accessing a Mac computer to
upload our footage and to edit our
footage.
We will also be using websites such as
Prezi and Slideshare to upload our
evidence to our blog.
