3. Introduction
I am analysing the music video
see you again by Wiz Khalifa,
Featuring Charlie Puth. The hip-
hop/rap song is part of the
soundtrack for “Fast and Furious
7” This song touched the heart
of many as the purpose of it was
to remember Paul Walker, a main
character in the Fast and
Furious franchise who tragically
passed away.
4. Genre Characteristics
Similar to the previous song i analysed ‘No
Frauds’ this song follows one of the larger hip-
hop conventions which is flaunting wealth, All
the locations and props seem to be very high
budget, for example 21 seconds into the song
Charlie Puth is shown on the top of a peak with
an amazing view, playing a Grand piano in front
of an expensive car, 2 minutes and 20 seconds in
you see Wiz Khalifa wearing expensive items of
jewellery on his wrist in front of another great
view.
5. Narrative and performance
Based music video
This is a narrative and performance based
music video as the director keeps cutting
back to scenes from the movies with paul
walker in creating a sort of journey through
clips and also cutting between the
performance side of the video. Although the
locations and props are very high budget,
the focus of the video is definitely the
journey Paul Walker has gone on with all of
his friends and family and that they will
see him again.
6. General technical aspects
The video is just under 4 minutes long.
There are around 120 shots and about 5 were repeated, there
are also 2 performers Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth. There are
also snippets of the previous past 7 fast and furious films
within the video containing all the main characters. Wiz
Khalifa has two costumes and Charlie has one within the
video. There are also 3 different locations (not including
the sections from the movies). The shots for the music video
were from the same places from the movies and also scenic
shots and slow editing pace fit well with the sentimental
song.
7. Intertextual references
There are clear intertextual references to the Paul Walker’s
memory and his career throughout the Fast and Furious Films.
This is made clear through the lyrics “see you again” and
also supported through the visuals.
8. Conclusion and evaluation
All in all this is a mix between a narrative and performance
based video with focus around the remembrance of Paul Walker.
This video stood out with the scenic shots and shots from the
movies to really capture the moments within Paul Walker’s
time within the Fast and Furious films.
