2. This music video has been effective by using a variety of
shots to capture the audiences’ attention. For example
there is a close up of the lips which creates quite an
eerie feeling as well as suggest something suspicious.
Additionally the red colour lipstick could suggest danger
which could hint to the audience that the song is about
something bad.
3. There is an establishing shot at the beginning of the
music video which captures a silhouette of a girl staring
at something. She is also surrounded by trees, this is
quite an interesting shot because it catches the
audiences attention and straight away highlights to the
audience that this is going to be quite dark, depressing
music. Therefore this means they can decide whether
they would like to continue watching.
4. Low key lighting is consistent throughout the music as
this provides an atmosphere and creates a tension in the
video. The use of low key lighting also reinforces the
genre of music and provides a meaning to the piece.
This has been created using a small budget so therefore
is not the best quality but I feel it has been done in an
effective way.
5. There are a lot of different locations and costumes in this
music video which are conventions of a music video.
This is good because it highlights how they have put
thought into it and created more meaning within it. It
looks effective when there are different shots of sections
of the face because it creates more of a tense feel and
the bold red colour against the black expresses danger.
6. Editing has been one of the key components in this
video. The creator has thought had about cutting to the
beats of the music to create a more professional video.
This has been done well and allows the viewer to feel
the rhythm and tempo of the music and feel connected
with the piece. It also adds effect to the music video and
makes it more interesting.
7. A lot of editing techniques have also been used such as
dissolves and cross cutting. This is where shot are cut to
other shot in a different location but with the same
meaning. The effects are effective and highlight that a lot
of time and effort has been put into making it and that
they have experimented with editing.
8. Considering this is a low budget music video, it has been
put together very well and has been made in an
interesting way for the audience to watch. I feel they
have used the lighting well as well as experimenting with
the editing. I think when making my music video I will
consider the costume and location more because these
are slightly lost in the piece. I would decide exactly what
they will be wearing and where they will be so when
filming it run efficiently and easily.
10. There are many close ups used which emphasises the
artists emotions and expressions. This also allows the
viewer to have a more personal feeling with the artist
and feel as though they are connected. This is effective
because the viewer will then continue watching. By
having close ups of each member of the band it also
means the audience feel as though they are meeting
each member and beginning to know them.
11. A long shot has been used when the boys are standing
in suits. I believe this has been used to promote them as
a band and allow the audience to see their image. This is
effective and I also feel this may have been done to
create a fan base for the band. This is because it is
creating an image of them meaning people will
remember them and then tell others about them.
12. The boy band make sure they create a performance for
the viewer. They perform a dance routine which is not
only showing off their talent but also that they work well
together and their strong friendship they have as a band.
Perhaps this may have also been done for the audience
to copy and feel as though they can become part of the
band.
13. A mixture of high and low key lighting has also been
used. This has been done by using sources of light. In
one particular part the boys are surrounded by light and
this gives a professional stage appearance. This is a
clever idea because it then means a happy atmosphere
is created and the scene is bright and draws the
audience in. People enjoy watching things that cheer
them up so this grabs their attention as its so visually
bright.
14. They have also cut the video to the beats of the music.
Again this is a very good way to edit because it means
the tempo and rhythm is enhanced the audience are
able to feel the music more. I find this clever and makes
the music better as the image you are seeing is going to
it.
15. After watching this low budget music video, I have
understood how you can make a really professional
looking image. I like the idea of creating the light sources
and I feel that particular shot looks extremely effective. I
also feel they have carefully thought about the costume
and locations meaning the video looks more
sophisticated. The makers have also understood the
conventions of a music video and have been able to
enhance these.
