Roundtable Discussion Reflection
Roundtable Discussion Reflection The Roundtable Discussion was successful because we all shared
our articles and covered all the content we brought. We shared our idea and expressed our opinions
about the articles for the topic that we chose which was serial killers. We asked many questions and
talked for the whole lunch period. The most interesting or controversial topic that arose from the
discussion was from the article,"Relatives of Guelph murder victims angered at outing arranged for
serial killer". The topic was how a mentally ill person who was known for strangling people in their

behavior and idea exchanges in student groups Standards Addressed: 5th Grade – TC2(3–5) 2. Use
various technology applications, including word processing and multimedia software. ELA2010(3)
38. Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English capitalization, punctuation, and
spelling when writing. Specific Objectives: The threaded discussion simulates traditional classroom
discussion allowing students to post comments to a particular topic and respond to the comments of
others. A threaded discussion, or thread, takes place asynchronously with each thread beginning with
a topic identified by the instructor. The students in the class facilitate the actual discussion. Each
student logs in and posts to the thread during class (or as part of a homework assignment). All
responses are displayed according to the order of submission below the original topic. The goal is to
involve the students in facilitating their own group dialogue through the use of technology. This
project introduces word processing, proper writing mechanics, internet search functions and
appropriate etiquette in online forums. Required Materials: Student Computers and a Teacher
Computer Smart Board technology (Blackboard or similar online forum) Internet (usage varies

A Discussion On The Green Movement
This chapter starts with a discussion on the Green movement in Iran and then attempts to
problematize it empirically through a critical reasoning. In this research, a virtual public sphere in
Iran is discussed. Theoretically, the public sphere is the space in which citizens deliberate their
common issues and criticize the state without fear. Habermas' definition of the public sphere
reminds places such as salons, coffee shops and teahouses rather than Internet– based spheres. In
this regard, post–Habermasian thinkers assert that all social media and technology–based
apparatuses can be studied as a new realm of the public sphere. This approach goes beyond the basic
description in which Habermas (1982) refers to the 17th and 18th centuries ... Show more content on

Nowadays, social media provide a virtual public sphere in which people are able to talk and share
their comments and discuss different topics. The evidence demonstrates the virtual public sphere has
become a great arena of discussion for people in Iran, yet it should be declared that there is a long–
term discussion whether or not cyberspaces media could be a positive way of doing politics. For
instance, Kranzberg (1985, p. 50) believes, "Technology is neither good nor bad, nor is it neutral."
At any rate, despite many red lines and censorship that newspapers, news agencies and other official
media are faced; the new social media can publish the news, share the ideas and circulate different
topics. Having said that, this paper is aware of sophisticated filtering of social media in Iran, which
causes many limitations for citizens, however, people use VPN to circumvent this filtering and
distributing the news.
In this study, the basic definition of the public sphere by the German philosopher, Jürgen Habermas,
is expressed. Further, this text will discuss around some other scholars who either criticize or expand
his theory. The basic empirical research of this study showed that the Iranian virtual public sphere,
some topics are frequently discussed such as the organized corruption, the political prisoners, the
Green movement, the poverty, the unemployment, and

Euthanasia Discussion
Whose responsibility is it to decide when, where, and under what conditions a person is to die? This
question inevitably brings up discussion of spirituality, beliefs, and legislation. Euthanasia is an idea
that has been around for decades yet as we progress in technology and medical competency the
discussion screams to be addressed formally by passing legislature. Euthanasia must be taken out of
the hands of lawmakers and put into the hands of the thousands fatally ill patients trapped in their
own bodies and/or minds. It is our responsibility as a society of profound thinking individuals to
discuss this difficult and troubling issue that has plagued the lives of families all over the entire
world. We must debate on an issue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As of right now there are two countries that have legalized euthanasia, The Netherlands and
Belgium, along with Australia's Northern Territory. In the United States there is only one state that
has legalized PAS, which is Oregon. PAS is defined as "the prescription or supplying of drugs with
the explicit intention of enabling the patient to end his or her life by an overdose" (Willems et al.
2000). The debate has multiple angles of support and opposition. The leading support groups for
euthanasia center around the fact that it is their lives to control. As Dorothy Rasinski Gregory states,
Ask the average physician, attorney, or layperson what kind of death he or she would prefer and a
variety of responses might be heard: "in my sleep; . . . after I've had a chance to bring closure to a

pain; . . . after I've had a chance to say 'goodbye'; . . . not dependent on anyone or anything; . . .

Focus Group Discussion
Objective The main objective of this focus group discussion was to get information from human
resource representatives, as well as a few mangers of surrounding companies about their feeling and
attitudes toward MBA programs, North Dakota State University's program specifically. Our
discussion focused on four main aspects of MBA programs: employer sponsored MBA programs,
attitudes toward MBA programs, the pros and cons of the MBA program at North Dakota State
University, and the human resource representatives' thoughts on MBA employees. The information
collected from the discussion will be used to encompass MBA education in the greater Fargo–

To make conversations more personal, the moderator had to address some more sensitive subjects
that would in turn make people more shy to answer, but after a few individuals would give answers,
other would bring it back to them and answer the question fully. Also, when you addressed an
individual by name, it make the conversation more relatable and would result in improvement
participation rates and positively affect quality of data gathering.
What We Would Do Differently
If we could do this focus group again, we would try and include a larger collection of participants.
This improvement would allow us to hear more insights, and give our group a wider variety of
responses. A smaller–sized group may be more personal, but doesn't offer as much depth as a
slightly larger size.
Additionally, something that would help is finding ways to get people to participate more during the
focus group. Not everyone will have as much experience as the next person, but it's still important to
hear their thoughts and opinions. The more that people participate, the better our findings will

A Discussion Of Regression Results
Discussion of Regression Results
In order to empirically examine the extent to which changes in the price of chicken causes changes
in broiler (chicken) consumption, time–series data was collected on 40 observations extending from
1960 to 1999 on nine explanatory variables in total. I regressed this data using an Ordinary–Least
Squares (OLS) approach. The main explanatory variable used for my analysis was the consumer
price index (CPI) for whole fresh chicken with the base years denoted as the 1982 to 1984 time
period. The econometric model for my regression analysis is listed below:
Broiler Consumption = a+β_(1 ) (CPI of broilers)+ β_2 (income)+ β_3 (population)+β_(4 ) (CPI for
beef)+β_(5 ) (PPI for corn)+ β_(6 ) (NPI for broiler feed)+β_7 (CPI)+β_8 (AP of Broilers)+β_9
(population)+β_(10 ) (exports of beef,veal and pork)+ ε
Data regarding my dependent variable was originally collected as pounds consumed per capita.
However, I multiplied the per capita broiler consumption data by 100,000 to obtain broiler
consumption in pounds per 100,000 people. In this way, I was able to obtain a larger coefficient on a
few of the explanatory variables, which allowed for a more suitable display and discussion of the
results in the paper. Further, the objective of this analysis was to explain to what extent price of
broilers, represented as the consumer price index on whole fresh chicken, impacts broiler
consumption in pounds. Specifically, the coefficients on the

Abortion Discussion Questions
The topic for this discussion board was initially intended to be about a specific interest group we
wanted to see go away, so perhaps we have gone beyond the purpose of the discussion board by
debating the morality of abortion itself. Despite this, I would like to continue the discussion because
I find it interesting.
I disagree with some of the inferences you seem to have drawn from my response. I did not imply
that all abortions are justified; in fact, I would personally advocate for stricter regulations on
abortion. Furthermore, I believe that your statement describing a fetus as merely "a burden" is an
understatement of the scenarios I was trying to describe. When a fetus threatens the life of the
mother, I would describe its presence as more than just a burden. However, this does not mean I
necessarily support abortion when a pregnancy results from personal irresponsibility. For that
reason, I would like to rephrase the last statement in my former response. Instead of saying that
abortion is less often an issue of personal responsibility, a more accurate representation of my
opinion is to say that abortion should less often be an issue of personal responsibility. I did not mean
to describe how things currently are; rather, I intended to explain how I feel things should be. I
apologize for any confusion that may have caused. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
What that specific point should be, however, is certainly a gray area among most who share a
similar view. The specific points in fetal development that you listed would indeed be an important
consideration in deciding when exactly that point

Willpower Discussion Questions
Discussion Question Willpower is something that everyone has, it is just that majority of people do
not know how to use it efficiently. It is explained from the beginning of the willpower instinct that
people often set goals then lose control of themselves. Having experienced failure in obtaining my
goals in the past, now that we are tackling willpower challenges I have been more productive toward
my goals. One of the reasons that we tell ourselves that we can't achieve our goals, is because of the
many changes that we must make in ourselves and it seems impossible. I can build on this because I
have told myself that this will never work but I have had more success now than I have before.

1. The world within which Winston lives is replete with contradictions. For example a, major tenet
of the Party's philosophy is that War is Peace. Similarly, the Ministry of Love serves as, what we
would consider, a department of war. What role do these contradictions serve on a grand scale?
Discuss other contradictions inherent in the Party's philosophy. What role does contradiction serve
within the framework of Doublethink? How does Doublethink satisfy the needs of The Party?
2. In the afterword, the commentator describes 1984 as "a warning." Indeed, throughout the text,
Orwell plants both subtle and overt warnings to the reader. What do you think are some of the larger
issues at hand here?

education against which he valiantly, but unsuccessfully fights. Discuss Winston's "capitulation" at
the hands of O'Brien. How is Winston brought to "love Big Brother?" In sacrificing Julia, how has
Winston, in essence, signaled his own end?
13. How would you describe the author's tone in 1984? Does it add to or detract from the character's
discourse?
14. Discuss the role of sex and intimacy in 1984. What specific function does the Party's directive
on sexual interaction serve?
15. In the final analysis, how accurate was Orwell in his vision of the future? In what ways does our
contemporary society compare to his idea of society in 1984? Are there examples in which he was
correct? What is most opposite? Do you see a potential for aspects of Orwell's "vision" to come
true?
16. During his final encounter with O'Brien, Winston argues that, if all else fails, the inherent nature
of the individual–the "spirit of man"–is strong enough to undermine a society such as that created by
The Party. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Is Winston's belief applicable to the world
we live in today? Can you cite examples in our own recent history that support or dismiss Winston's
belief in the resiliency and righteousness of the human spirit?

"Hocus–Pocus Accounting" by Douglas R. Carmichael, Journal of Accountancy, October 1999; Vol.
188, Iss. 4; pg. 59, 5 pgs
Abstract:
SEC Chairman Arthur Levitt decried what he termed "accounting hocus–pocus" and called for
coordinated efforts to uncover it. He targeted the practice by some companies of improperly
boosting reported earnings by manipulating the recognition of revenue. Among the most common
methods of doing this are the bill–and–hold transaction and a long list of sham transaction involving
shipping, billing and/or related–party involvements. Both the SEC and the AICPA seek to increase
independent auditors ' awareness of problems associated with these practices. Full Text: | Copyright
American Institute of Certified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The SEC has emphasized that the above is not a simple checklist. A transaction might meet all the
criteria and still fail the revenue–recognition guidelines. The following factors also must be
considered:
* The date the seller expects payment and whether the seller has modified its normal billing and
credit terms for the buyer.
* The seller 's past experiences with bill–and–hold transactions.
* Whether the buyer has the expected risk of loss in the goods ' market value.
* Whether the seller 's custodial risks are insurable and insured.
* Whether Accounting Principles Board Opinion no. 21, Interest on Receivables and Payables (on
discounting the related receivable), applies.
* Whether the business reasons for the transaction have introduced a contingency to the buyer 's
commitment.
A WELL–PREPARED AUDITOR
In planning the audit of all revenue transactions, the auditor must understand the client 's industry,
business and products as well as its procedures for accepting orders, shipping goods, billing and
recording sales and removing product from inventory. When a client engages in bill–– and–hold
transactions, he or she should determine whether the transactions comply with the SEC 's criteria.
Auditors need to consider many factors to assess the appropriateness of revenue recognition. For
example, in an SEC enforcement case, the seller was a toy maker with a highly seasonal

2. What differences are there between P and S waves?
There are two types of body waves: P–waves and S–waves. P–waves are primary waves. They travel
the fastest and are longitudinal waves. A longitudinal wave is when the particle moves parallel to the

organization. The structure of this course, and the discussions in each module, and how each built

student learning and success. I'd like to begin with rubrics, and the rubrics I currently use compared
to some of the examples gleaned from my peers in the discussion boards. All of my assignments
have an attached grading sheet. This outlines where points are divided among specific items such as
following direction, mastery of a skill or technique, creativity (photo project) or content (essay) and
presentation. Students know what is expected, however, sometimes I think that certain categories
such as content, can be subjective and ambiguos. Having said that, I read several of the peer rubrics
provided and found wonderful examples for ways to make that grading more specific, and less open

A Discussion On The Illness Of Depression
A Discussion on the Undiscussed Illness of Depression
How do you feel when you read the term 'depression'? Do your feelings differ when you read the
term 'influenza'? Perhaps your answer is yes, but why? Clinical depression is an illness just as the
influenza virus is an illness. Clinical depression can be defined as a chemical imbalance in the brain,
resulting in a pervasive and persistent low mood. In comparison, the influenza virus, more
commonly known as the flu, can be defined as a viral infection of the respiratory passages resulting
in coughing, the production of excess mucous, and a sore throat. The location and nature of each
illness may differ from one another, but a victim is simply a victim. Thus I question why twenty–

Although depression may not cause a dry cough, runny nose, or a sore throat like the influenza
virus, those experiencing clinical depression are no better off. Symptoms such as loss of appetite
leading to weight loss or overeating leading to weight gain, social withdrawal, loss of interest in
hobbies and activities of pleasure, as well as persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, worthlessness,
guilt, or emptiness correlate with depression. These symptoms of clinical depression often lead to
thoughts of death and suicide. For this reason, the fatality rate, compared to that of influenza, is
much greater for clinical depression. To different extents, both clinical depression and influenza can
make it hard for their victims to face the day.
Treating and/or managing the influenza virus is far easier a task than treating and/or managing
clinical depression. An enormous collection of research has gone into fighting the influenza virus.
This research has resulted in vaccines that can protect one from contracting specific strains of the
virus, anti–viral medications to treat specific strains, as well as a wide array of pain killers,
decongestants, cough drops and anti–inflammatory's to ease one's symptoms. Far less research has
been conducted on the topic of clinical depression; thus, less effective treatment is offered. Similar

How do you know when you are improperly using your personal power? How do you know when

misused power will be when you lose the support of your team and start experience insubordination

overwhelmed and think that pushing your weight around to show power will be the way to earn

1. Why do U.S. corporations build manufacturing plants abroad when they could build them at

U.S corporations build manufacturing plants abroad because international operations are becoming
highly important to the national economy. Companies decide to go global for the following reasons:
1 expand their markets, 2 obtain raw materials, 3 seek new technology, 4 lower production costs, 5
avoid trade barriers, and 6 to diversify.
A good example of a U.S company who builds manufacturing plants abroad is Nike. According, to
Market Realist Nike moved 900 million units through supply chain on 2015, its manufacturing

is because it's part of its outsourcing strategy. To be able to explore new innovate ways to customize

bought the forms from the pharmacy then all the information a pharmacy need should be there.
2. Pharmacies could send a representative to work at some of the larger hospitals. This would allow
someone to go in person and quickly communicate what information is needed.
3. With the way technology is today pharmacies and doctors could partner to build an app so that
prescriptions could be sent instantly to pharmacy and if a problem arouse the app could be used to
communicate.
4. In larger doctors' offices or hospital room could be sent a side for the most commonly used drugs
which would allow for easy access to the doctor if both doctors and pharmacies are closely located.
5. Pharmacies could reward doctors' offices with benefits for first time answered phone call. This
would give incentives to get to all the calls.
6. Pharmacies could provide pagers to doctor's office so doctors know when calls are coming in.
7. The pharmacy should have a person whose only job is to answer the phone call being returned
about misunderstandings.
8. Doctor offices and local pharmacy should meet together and find way that best fit both party's
needs.
9. Pharmacies could employee doctors to interpret what it was the other doctor was trying to get
across.

Example Of Harkness Discussion
Harkness Thoughts? Overall, I felt that we could have done much better in our Harkness discussion.
One main problem I felt with this type of discussion is that there are so many people. In the socratic,
having small groups allows everyone to be able to contribute and be involved in the discussion.
Having 10–15 people and just one really broad question doesn't cut it. I feel like there could have
been either smaller groups or multiple questions within one group. Like 10 minutes with 1 question
and another ten minutes with the corresponding question.I saw that a lot of people felt frustration
because their points were being said by multiple other people, leaving them with nothing to
contribute. Therefore, a few people could be assigned one text

1. a) The class is in a productive zone when every individual is contributing to the discussion.
Prevalent silence is a sign that we aren't being productive, but the discussion must also be
meaningful rather than just filling the silence. For me personally, I need to make sure to pick the
times when my input is most insightful to speak up, as well as trying to reach out to the people who
are quiet. My level of heat started out too high and went down to a manageable amount where I
don't feel nearly as afraid to contribute. The class as a whole tends a little on the cold side, and that
seems mostly due to fear of heat. It's not that people don't want to contribute, it's that they're afraid
of saying something stupid or meaningless.

Jeff says he doesn't want to edit the paper, but he accepts anyways. Annie believes she can prove
that the school is profiling. Annie and Britta don't want to add anyone to the study group. Jeff
frequently excersises control over the study group.
Interpretations: Jeff just wants the editor position so he can have an office. Annie thinks the school's
Dean is racist. Annie doesn't actually think the school's Dean is racist, she only wants to have an
interesting story for the paper. The study group is conflicted about adding new people. The study
group looks to Jeff for guidance.
3. What has surprised you about the group dynamic in the class?
There has been a lot of genuine support for other peoples' ideas and also the conversation we all had
where we established that we don't think other people look as stupid as they think they do. I realize
that we're all civil, but I feel like people actually care more than I would have expected. 4. At first I

Discussion On An Instructional Method
Discussion as an Instructional Method I would use discussion as an instructional method because it
is a great interactive learning tool and facilitates listening, teamwork, confidence, critical thinking,
critical listening and critical reading. Moreover, classroom discussions can help students sharpen
their communication and speaking skills. Classroom discussion helps to dispel myths and
preconceived prejudices about others and students tend to develop mutual respect for one and
others. Above all, discussions foster better understanding as students share their "take" on the
subject, additional knowledge is shared. Hence, discussions require keen listening skills. I would say
from my personal experience, classroom discussions opened up my own understanding of many
subjects and helped me to navigate toward "right" thinking. The best way to express my love of this
teaching method is to tell the story of how much I hated it when I started Mercer University. My
second semester at Mercer, I had surgery and had to take two online classes. This was when I was
first introduced to the discussion method. As with most things new, it was frustrating. It grew more
challenging because the responses that I had to reply to did not make sense 80% of the time. Many
of the students did not write very well and we were required to respond. It was extremely difficult to
respond to something that did not make sense. So, I became a critical reader. I made sense out of

Group Discussion Strategy
Strategy #1 or Procedure #1: Class Discussions
Description: To encourage everyone to participate in a class discussion, I will use a talking tool to
facilitate the discussion. The talking tool will be a small koosh ball that will be passed around to
each person with a light underhand throw. Everyone will get at least one turn to talk and participate
in the discussion. First I will provide a model to the students by showing students how to lightly toss
the ball underhand and then how to catch the ball. Once I catch the ball I will model how to provide
to the discussion and then toss to another student. I will also model how to list and be an audience
member to the person talking. Then I will have the students take turns tossing the ball and ... Show

Before students enter the hallway I will demonstrate by modeling how to line up at the door and
enter the hallway. I will then demonstrate how to walk in the hallway with my hands to myself and
with a voice level of 0. I will then have the students line up at the door next to their shoulder partner.
Once students have a voice level of 0 I will allow the students to go into the hallway. The students
will stop once they are in the hallways until everyone is together in one line. The students will then
follow the line leader with their shoulder partner down the hallway to their next location. By having
quiet and smooth transitions, will save time and cut down on behaviors which will benefit the
student's learning environment.
Theoretical Model /Area it best fits and why:
I would show the students how to walk in the hallways appropriatly by modeling. The students
would observe and then repeat what they have observed which relates to the Social Learning
Theory. The Social Learning Theory developed by Albert Bandura focuses on imitation and the
ability of one to watch, memorize and repeat a behavior. Students will imitate me after I model for
them and they will also be able to imitate their classmates. When walking to another location in teh
hallway the students will follow and imitate the line leader to get to their destinatation effectively

Questions For The Group Discussion
Two Questions for the group discussion:
"Inside a church, a pastor has flipped a verse of the bible to accommodate polygamy. Consulted by a
business millionaire, the pastor ransacked the bible and finally arrived at a verse to support the holy
matrimony. Quoting Isaiah 4:1 the pastor joined the notable influential member with three women".
Does the text Isaiah 4:1 justify the polygamous wedding?
During the discussion, which follows the presentation, the group was amazed at the shocking photo
of a man franked with three women in their weeding attires. The scenario in a sociological
dimension prompted the geographical background where the wedding could have happened. It is
assumed that most Christian communities view polygamy as an abominable act, which presumably
does not conform with most biblical canons. For some geographical areas, it is illegal and
punishable by law, particularly in western society; yet it is acceptable in some countries and
shockingly among faith communities.
The expression that the Pastor "flipped a verse of the Bible to accommodate polygamy", could be
inferred that the pastor was either desperate for the man's money or that he was afraid of losing his
membership in his church; and so, he was ready to do anything to keep his buoyant church member.
However, for charity sake, we do not know the bigger picture of what really happened or what might
have moved the pastor to succumb to the risky demand. Sociologically his society allows it

Teaching By Discussion Analysis
"Teaching by Discussion" As a Sunday school teacher at my previous church for four years, it was
important to give individuals a chance to give their input to the Scriptures as we studied them.
However, we are never too old to learn something new. After reading the article, "Teaching by
Discussion," by Kenneth O. Gangel Ph.D., I realized some areas I fell short with my students in
discussing questions. Getting students involved in discussion at times was like pulling teeth, no one
opens their mouths and I found myself doing all of the talking (discussing). With all honesty, there
are other Sunday school teachers who fall in this same question and answer category, which I have
experienced. Nonetheless, this article expressed our purpose as teachers is to get the students
involved in classroom discussions by asking the right questions. Discussion is not conducted for the
sake of therapy but rather for the sake of pinpointing answers to questions for solutions. Ordinarily,
teacher and students are engaged in a cooperative effort to seek for truth, knowing in advance that
truth also its application to life can be found in God's Word. Furthermore, I can relate to this article

Discussion On Abortion
US POSITION
The US and UNPA
The U.S continually supports UN programs and there are many national and international debates
about the subject. But the relationship between the U.S. government and UNFPA has followed a
path similar what is known as the "gag rule" (Guttmacher, (2015); Jones, (2011). The global gag rule
(also known as the Mexico City Policy) is a rule that prevents any organization (including UN
agencies) receiving U.S. international family planning funds from providing counseling or referrals
for abortion or advocating for access to abortion services in their country even with their own
money (PIA, (2015); Guttmacher, (2015); Jones, (2011). Though it has political connotations, I say
it is a national policy that keeps changing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Someone might be against abortions on moral grounds but still support the legalization of it, because
criminalizing abortion will bring more hard to the mother (Brannigan & Boss (2011). The UN
believes that denying access to family planning will hurt women and create a poorer social outcome
for the families, women, and girls (PIA, 2005). It is better to provide women with the necessary
tools to prevent unwanted pregnancies and abort if necessary in a safe fear–free environment. Legal
barriers will lead to denial in access which will lead to unsafe abortions. The United States does not
support coercive abortion or forced sterilization. The U.S. has funded and defunded UNFPA from
time to time depending on how the administration of the day interprets the gag rule. Regardless of
the moral status of the fetus, my moderate view is that abortion might be morally wrong, but making
it illegal will create more harm to society, especially to women. My perspective is therefore a
utilitarian moral

APA Discussion Analysis
APA Discussion One important aspect I gained by taking the APA quiz is that there is no time frame
for plagiarism. Another aspect is that Walden University professors can give you an "F" on a paper
that shows plagiarism (Walden University, n.d.). I included this because I thought that should you
have plagiarized then the first course of action was to be put on academic probation. I am glad to
now know that this is not the case, although I will continue to view this as such to avoid plagiarism
in any of my papers. A strategy I will use to ensure that I have properly cited my sources will be to
utilize me resource table that I enter all used resources. This allows me to access these resources

The core responsibilities of operations managers tend to be similar across many industries. The
planning of various company operations and activities is another major concern of the operations
manager. Operations managers tend to determine which products are bought and sold, what prices
they are bought or sold for and to whom they will be marketed. The operations manager also helps
plan and coordinate activities between various departments such as determining what types of sales
promotions the company will engage in. (Chron.com) Operation managers add value to a company's
products or services by ensuring that business operations are efficient in terms of using as few
resources as needed, and effective in terms of meeting customer requirements. An operations
manager typically ensures smooth operation of various processes that contribute to the production of
goods and services of an organization. (Buzzle.com) http://www.buzzle.com/articles/operations–

1. Who should be held accountable for the factory that killed hundreds of people in Bangladesh? Is
it sufficient to arrest the building owner, or should the companies that buy from the factories face
consequences as well?
The stakeholders who should be accountable for the factory fire are the Western retailers that source
from the factory, Bangladesh Government and the factory building owner who leased or rented the
building. The companies that buy the goods from the factories should also be held accountable for
reasons such as:
Exploiting the cheap labor to earn high profits

The labor laws in Bangladesh indeed should be strengthened like those in the U.S. to prevent such

4. Some people have called for a boycott of garments produced in Bangladesh. Do you agree with
this recommendation? If retailers boycott the factories to ensure their compliance with basic levels
of safety, what happens to the people who work in those factories? Consider your response using a
utilitarianism perspective.
I don't think boycotting garments made in Bangladesh will solve the problem. A boycott of garments
from Bangladesh would increase unemployment, considering the dependency of the country, and its
people in garment manufacturing industry. This could result in an increase in the poverty level of the
country. Bearing in mind all the stakeholders, it may be advisable to increase the safety, hygienic
and compliance standards of these factories avoid disasters like the fire accident.
5. Oxfam claims that the wages paid to workers in the garment factories are far too low and should
be boosted significantly. Is Oxfam right? Is it a human rights violation to source goods from
factories where wages are so low? If higher wages are implemented what might happen to the

Discussion Of Trolleyey Experiment
Aim
The aim of this experiment is to set up a simulation of a car accident using trolleys and dummies as
models to create this car simulation.
Colleagues
The following colleagues have helped to develop results for this experiment: Georgia Wright, Nicole
McGrath and Tahlia Faulds.
Hypothesis
PART A
If Trolley A and B collide very hard then the dummies would propel off the trolleys because of the
impact of the collision and force.
PART B
If the trolley was set at far distances on the ramp, then the collision between the car and block will
effect the distance of the dummy that will propel off the trolley.

Reflection On Harkness Discussion
After taking part in the Harkness discussion that we had in class last Tuesday, I honestly feel that I
gained many new perspectives which now help me formulate and update my own view of the
police's use of force. Originally, I was stuck on the thought that police use excessive force against
minorities simply because they could; I believed they were solely abusing their power. Furthermore,
after hearing about the many police brutality crimes against minorities that have been circulating in
our country for over the last year, it only furthered my previous stance. However, having read the
various articles for the Harkness discussion and taking part in the discussion, my stance has changed

There was also concern if current education can develop a nurse's preparedness in delivering quality
care (Griffiths et al, 2012). One of the participants stated "you might be the best clinician in the
world but if you can't communicate and you can't listen properly to people and you don't take on
board and understand what they're saying you may as well go dig the street" (Griffiths et al, 2012).
Furthermore another participant stated "...each individual should be [evaluated] and their needs be
assessed and implemented on that particular individual...I just feel it's a conveyor belt system. Get
them in and get them out sort of thing" (Griffiths et al, 2012). In another qualitative review which
explored nurse's perspectives on patient–centred care, suggested time management was the largest
barrier preventing them from communicating effectively with their patients (Chan et al, 2012). One
nurse stated "sometimes, I have to deal with 20 patients in one single shift... if one needs 10 minutes
and there are 20 patients in total, how much time would we have to spend on this? Don't we need to
do other tasks?" (Chan et al, 2012). According to the Australian Commission on safety and quality

Threaded Classroom Discussion Lesson Plan Title: Classroom Threaded Discussions Concept/Topic to Teach: Proper writing, behavior and idea exchanges in student groups Standards Addressed: 5th Grade – TC2(3–5) 2. Use various technology applications, including word processing and multimedia software. ELA2010(3) 38. Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English capitalization, punctuation, and spelling when writing. Specific Objectives: The threaded discussion simulates traditional classroom discussion allowing students to post comments to a particular topic and respond to the comments of others. A threaded discussion, or thread, takes place asynchronously with each thread beginning with a topic identified by the instructor. The students in the class facilitate the actual discussion. Each student logs in and posts to the thread during class (or as part of a homework assignment). All responses are displayed according to the order of submission below the original topic. The goal is to involve the students in facilitating their own group dialogue through the use of technology. This project introduces word processing, proper writing mechanics, internet search functions and appropriate etiquette in online forums. Required Materials: Student Computers and a Teacher Computer Smart Board technology (Blackboard or similar online forum) Internet (usage varies depending on topic) Anticipatory Set (Lead–In): The lesson should begin with the instructor creating the initial online forum ... • 12. A Discussion On The Green Movement This chapter starts with a discussion on the Green movement in Iran and then attempts to problematize it empirically through a critical reasoning. In this research, a virtual public sphere in Iran is discussed. Theoretically, the public sphere is the space in which citizens deliberate their common issues and criticize the state without fear. Habermas' definition of the public sphere reminds places such as salons, coffee shops and teahouses rather than Internet– based spheres. In this regard, post–Habermasian thinkers assert that all social media and technology–based apparatuses can be studied as a new realm of the public sphere. This approach goes beyond the basic description in which Habermas (1982) refers to the 17th and 18th centuries ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nowadays, social media provide a virtual public sphere in which people are able to talk and share their comments and discuss different topics. The evidence demonstrates the virtual public sphere has become a great arena of discussion for people in Iran, yet it should be declared that there is a long– term discussion whether or not cyberspaces media could be a positive way of doing politics. For instance, Kranzberg (1985, p. 50) believes, "Technology is neither good nor bad, nor is it neutral." At any rate, despite many red lines and censorship that newspapers, news agencies and other official media are faced; the new social media can publish the news, share the ideas and circulate different topics. Having said that, this paper is aware of sophisticated filtering of social media in Iran, which causes many limitations for citizens, however, people use VPN to circumvent this filtering and distributing the news. In this study, the basic definition of the public sphere by the German philosopher, Jürgen Habermas, is expressed. Further, this text will discuss around some other scholars who either criticize or expand his theory. The basic empirical research of this study showed that the Iranian virtual public sphere, some topics are frequently discussed such as the organized corruption, the political prisoners, the Green movement, the poverty, the unemployment, and ... • 14. Euthanasia Discussion Whose responsibility is it to decide when, where, and under what conditions a person is to die? This question inevitably brings up discussion of spirituality, beliefs, and legislation. Euthanasia is an idea that has been around for decades yet as we progress in technology and medical competency the discussion screams to be addressed formally by passing legislature. Euthanasia must be taken out of the hands of lawmakers and put into the hands of the thousands fatally ill patients trapped in their own bodies and/or minds. It is our responsibility as a society of profound thinking individuals to discuss this difficult and troubling issue that has plagued the lives of families all over the entire world. We must debate on an issue that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As of right now there are two countries that have legalized euthanasia, The Netherlands and Belgium, along with Australia's Northern Territory. In the United States there is only one state that has legalized PAS, which is Oregon. PAS is defined as "the prescription or supplying of drugs with the explicit intention of enabling the patient to end his or her life by an overdose" (Willems et al. 2000). The debate has multiple angles of support and opposition. The leading support groups for euthanasia center around the fact that it is their lives to control. Focus Group Discussion Objective The main objective of this focus group discussion was to get information from human resource representatives, as well as a few mangers of surrounding companies about their feeling and attitudes toward MBA programs, North Dakota State University's program specifically. Our discussion focused on four main aspects of MBA programs: employer sponsored MBA programs, attitudes toward MBA programs, the pros and cons of the MBA program at North Dakota State University, and the human resource representatives' thoughts on MBA employees. The information collected from the discussion will be used to encompass MBA education in the greater Fargo– Moorhead area. Method and Procedure The team brainstormed a list of questions ... To make conversations more personal, the moderator had to address some more sensitive subjects that would in turn make people more shy to answer, but after a few individuals would give answers, other would bring it back to them and answer the question fully. Also, when you addressed an individual by name, it make the conversation more relatable and would result in improvement participation rates and positively affect quality of data gathering. What We Would Do Differently If we could do this focus group again, we would try and include a larger collection of participants. This improvement would allow us to hear more insights, and give our group a wider variety of responses. A smaller–sized group may be more personal, but doesn't offer as much depth as a slightly larger size. Additionally, something that would help is finding ways to get people to participate more during the focus group. Not everyone will have as much experience as the next person, but it's still important to hear their thoughts and opinions. The more that people participate, the better our findings will ... • 18. A Discussion Of Regression Results Discussion of Regression Results In order to empirically examine the extent to which changes in the price of chicken causes changes in broiler (chicken) consumption, time–series data was collected on 40 observations extending from 1960 to 1999 on nine explanatory variables in total. I regressed this data using an Ordinary–Least Squares (OLS) approach. The main explanatory variable used for my analysis was the consumer price index (CPI) for whole fresh chicken with the base years denoted as the 1982 to 1984 time period. The econometric model for my regression analysis is listed below: Broiler Consumption = a+β_(1 ) (CPI of broilers)+ β_2 (income)+ β_3 (population)+β_(4 ) (CPI for beef)+β_(5 ) (PPI for corn)+ β_(6 ) (NPI for broiler feed)+β_7 (CPI)+β_8 (AP of Broilers)+β_9 (population)+β_(10 ) (exports of beef, veal and pork)+ ε Data regarding my dependent variable was originally collected as pounds consumed per capita. However, I multiplied the per capita broiler consumption data by 100,000 to obtain broiler consumption in pounds per 100,000 people. In this way, I was able to obtain a larger coefficient on a few of the explanatory variables, which allowed for a more suitable display and discussion of the results in the paper. Further, the objective of this analysis was to explain to what extent price of broilers, represented as the consumer price index on whole fresh chicken, impacts broiler consumption in pounds. Specifically, the coefficients on the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 20. Abortion Discussion Questions The topic for this discussion board was initially intended to be about a specific interest group we wanted to see go away, so perhaps we have gone beyond the purpose of the discussion board by debating the morality of abortion itself. Despite this, I would like to continue the discussion because I find it interesting. I disagree with some of the inferences you seem to have drawn from my response. I did not imply that all abortions are justified; in fact, I would personally advocate for stricter regulations on abortion. Furthermore, I believe that your statement describing a fetus as merely "a burden" is an understatement of the scenarios I was trying to describe. When a fetus threatens the life of the mother, I would describe its presence as more than just a burden. However, this does not mean I necessarily support abortion when a pregnancy results from personal irresponsibility. For that reason, I would like to rephrase the last statement in my former response. Instead of saying that abortion is less often an issue of personal responsibility, a more accurate representation of my opinion is to say that abortion should less often be an issue of personal responsibility. I did not mean to describe how things currently are; rather, I intended to explain how I feel things should be. I apologize for any confusion that may have caused. ... It is explained from the beginning of the willpower instinct that people often set goals then lose control of themselves. Having experienced failure in obtaining my goals in the past, now that we are tackling willpower challenges I have been more productive toward my goals. One of the reasons that we tell ourselves that we can't achieve our goals, is because of the many changes that we must make in ourselves and it seems impossible. Similarly, the Ministry of Love serves as, what we would consider, a department of war. What role do these contradictions serve on a grand scale? Discuss other contradictions inherent in the Party's philosophy. What role does contradiction serve within the framework of Doublethink? How does Doublethink satisfy the needs of The Party? 2. How would you describe the author's tone in 1984? Does it add to or detract from the character's discourse? 14. Discuss the role of sex and intimacy in 1984. What specific function does the Party's directive on sexual interaction serve? 15. In the final analysis, how accurate was Orwell in his vision of the future? In what ways does our contemporary society compare to his idea of society in 1984? Are there examples in which he was correct? What is most opposite? Do you see a potential for aspects of Orwell's "vision" to come true? 16. During his final encounter with O'Brien, Winston argues that, if all else fails, the inherent nature of the individual–the "spirit of man"–is strong enough to undermine a society such as that created by The Party. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Is Winston's belief applicable to the world we live in today? Can you cite examples in our own recent history that support or dismiss Winston's belief in the resiliency and righteousness of the human spirit? 17. • 26. Discussion "Hocus–Pocus Accounting" by Douglas R. Carmichael, Journal of Accountancy, October 1999; Vol. 188, Iss. 4; pg. 59, 5 pgs Abstract: SEC Chairman Arthur Levitt decried what he termed "accounting hocus–pocus" and called for coordinated efforts to uncover it. He targeted the practice by some companies of improperly boosting reported earnings by manipulating the recognition of revenue. Among the most common methods of doing this are the bill–and–hold transaction and a long list of sham transaction involving shipping, billing and/or related–party involvements. Both the SEC and the AICPA seek to increase independent auditors ' awareness of problems associated with these practices. Full Text: | Copyright American Institute of Certified ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The SEC has emphasized that the above is not a simple checklist. A transaction might meet all the criteria and still fail the revenue–recognition guidelines. There are two types of seismic waves: body waves and surface waves. Body waves travel through the body of the Earth while surface waves travel along the surface of the Earth. 2. What differences are there between P and S waves? There are two types of body waves: P–waves and S–waves. P–waves are primary waves. They travel the fastest and are longitudinal waves. The main point that I took away was that diversity in the sport community is a major issue that many people tend to ignore. Dr. Laura Burton of the UConn Sport Management Program, Fluerette King of the Rainbow Center and Nicole Melton of the UMASS Amherst Sport Management Program all provided their opinions on the issue of diversity in sports. They answered many highly debated questions in relation to diversity and sport and how the two fit together. They then opened the floor to the people in the audience for a chance to ask questions. Immediately, this was a perfect reference to help describe that one overarching topic that encompasses all that I gleaned from this course. That one topic is organization. The structure of this course, and the discussions in each module, and how each built upon skills and topics learned, allowed me to understand a great online tool to have, organization. I'd like to begin with rubrics, and the rubrics I currently use compared to some of the examples gleaned from my peers in the discussion boards. All of my assignments have an attached grading sheet. This outlines where points are divided among specific items such as following direction, mastery of a skill or technique, creativity (photo project) or content (essay) and presentation. Students know what is expected, however, sometimes I think that certain categories such as content, can be subjective and ambiguos. Having said that, I read several of the peer rubrics provided and found wonderful examples for ways to make that grading more specific, and less open to argument from the student. For example, the Grading Rubric for PHI–111 Research Paper, provided by Carolyn Brown in Module 5/Discussion 1, has a good breakdown of the content section of a research paper into categories including Thought, Details and ... • 34. A Discussion On The Illness Of Depression A Discussion on the Undiscussed Illness of Depression How do you feel when you read the term 'depression'? Do your feelings differ when you read the term 'influenza'? Perhaps your answer is yes, but why? Clinical depression is an illness just as the influenza virus is an illness. Clinical depression can be defined as a chemical imbalance in the brain, resulting in a pervasive and persistent low mood. In comparison, the influenza virus, more commonly known as the flu, can be defined as a viral infection of the respiratory passages resulting in coughing, the production of excess mucous, and a sore throat. The location and nature of each illness may differ from one another, but a victim is simply a victim. Thus I question why twenty– first ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although depression may not cause a dry cough, runny nose, or a sore throat like the influenza virus, those experiencing clinical depression are no better off. Symptoms such as loss of appetite leading to weight loss or overeating leading to weight gain, social withdrawal, loss of interest in hobbies and activities of pleasure, as well as persistent feelings of sadness, anxiety, worthlessness, guilt, or emptiness correlate with depression. These symptoms of clinical depression often lead to thoughts of death and suicide. For this reason, the fatality rate, compared to that of influenza, is much greater for clinical depression. To different extents, both clinical depression and influenza can make it hard for their victims to face the day. Treating and/or managing the influenza virus is far easier a task than treating and/or managing clinical depression. An enormous collection of research has gone into fighting the influenza virus. This research has resulted in vaccines that can protect one from contracting specific strains of the virus, anti–viral medications to treat specific strains, as well as a wide array of pain killers, decongestants, cough drops and anti–inflammatory's to ease one's symptoms. Far less research has been conducted on the topic of clinical depression; thus, less effective treatment is offered. Similar to influenza, a young adult in Canada ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Discussion On An Instructional Method Discussion as an Instructional Method I would use discussion as an instructional method because it is a great interactive learning tool and facilitates listening, teamwork, confidence, critical thinking, critical listening and critical reading. Moreover, classroom discussions can help students sharpen their communication and speaking skills. Classroom discussion helps to dispel myths and preconceived prejudices about others and students tend to develop mutual respect for one and others. Above all, discussions foster better understanding as students share their "take" on the subject, additional knowledge is shared. Hence, discussions require keen listening skills. I would say from my personal experience, classroom discussions opened up my own understanding of many subjects and helped me to navigate toward "right" thinking. The best way to express my love of this teaching method is to tell the story of how much I hated it when I started Mercer University. My second semester at Mercer, I had surgery and had to take two online classes. This was when I was first introduced to the discussion method. As with most things new, it was frustrating. It grew more challenging because the responses that I had to reply to did not make sense 80% of the time. Many of the students did not write very well and we were required to respond. It was extremely difficult to respond to something that did not make sense. So, I became a critical reader. I made sense out of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Consulted by a business millionaire, the pastor ransacked the bible and finally arrived at a verse to support the holy matrimony. Quoting Isaiah 4:1 the pastor joined the notable influential member with three women". Does the text Isaiah 4:1 justify the polygamous wedding? During the discussion, which follows the presentation, the group was amazed at the shocking photo of a man franked with three women in their weeding attires. The scenario in a sociological dimension prompted the geographical background where the wedding could have happened. It is assumed that most Christian communities view polygamy as an abominable act, which presumably does not conform with most biblical canons. For some geographical areas, it is illegal and punishable by law, particularly in western society; yet it is acceptable in some countries and shockingly among faith communities. The expression that the Pastor "flipped a verse of the Bible to accommodate polygamy", could be inferred that the pastor was either desperate for the man's money or that he was afraid of losing his membership in his church; and so, he was ready to do anything to keep his buoyant church member. However, for charity sake, we do not know the bigger picture of what really happened or what might have moved the pastor to succumb to the risky demand. However, we are never too old to learn something new. After reading the article, "Teaching by Discussion," by Kenneth O. Gangel Ph.D., I realized some areas I fell short with my students in discussing questions. Getting students involved in discussion at times was like pulling teeth, no one opens their mouths and I found myself doing all of the talking (discussing). With all honesty, there are other Sunday school teachers who fall in this same question and answer category, which I have experienced. Nonetheless, this article expressed our purpose as teachers is to get the students involved in classroom discussions by asking the right questions. Discussion is not conducted for the sake of therapy but rather for the sake of pinpointing answers to questions for solutions. It is better to provide women with the necessary tools to prevent unwanted pregnancies and abort if necessary in a safe fear–free environment. Legal barriers will lead to denial in access which will lead to unsafe abortions. The United States does not support coercive abortion or forced sterilization. The U.S. has funded and defunded UNFPA from time to time depending on how the administration of the day interprets the gag rule. • 73. Discussion Of Trolleyey Experiment Aim The aim of this experiment is to set up a simulation of a car accident using trolleys and dummies as models to create this car simulation. Colleagues The following colleagues have helped to develop results for this experiment: Georgia Wright, Nicole McGrath and Tahlia Faulds. Hypothesis PART A If Trolley A and B collide very hard then the dummies would propel off the trolleys because of the impact of the collision and force. PART B If the trolley was set at far distances on the ramp, then the collision between the car and block will effect the distance of the dummy that will propel off the trolley. • 75. Reflection On Harkness Discussion After taking part in the Harkness discussion that we had in class last Tuesday, I honestly feel that I gained many new perspectives which now help me formulate and update my own view of the police's use of force. Originally, I was stuck on the thought that police use excessive force against minorities simply because they could; I believed they were solely abusing their power. Furthermore, after hearing about the many police brutality crimes against minorities that have been circulating in our country for over the last year, it only furthered my previous stance. However, having read the various articles for the Harkness discussion and taking part in the discussion, my stance has changed for the reason of the training the police receive and ... There was also concern if current education can develop a nurse's preparedness in delivering quality care (Griffiths et al, 2012). One of the participants stated "you might be the best clinician in the world but if you can't communicate and you can't listen properly to people and you don't take on board and understand what they're saying you may as well go dig the street" (Griffiths et al, 2012). Furthermore another participant stated "...each individual should be [evaluated] and their needs be assessed and implemented on that particular individual...I just feel it's a conveyor belt system. In another qualitative review which explored nurse's perspectives on patient–centred care, suggested time management was the largest barrier preventing them from communicating effectively with their patients (Chan et al, 2012). One nurse stated "sometimes, I have to deal with 20 patients in one single shift... if one needs 10 minutes and there are 20 patients in total, how much time would we have to spend on this? Don't we need to do other tasks?" (Chan et al, 2012).
