Socrates and Hippocrates engage in a dialogue about mathematics. Hippocrates seeks Socrates' advice on mathematics as he has been thinking about their previous discussion with Protagoras. Socrates asks Hippocrates questions to clarify his understanding of mathematics, including what it is, what it studies, and the difference between existing and non-existing things. They discuss topics such as astronomy, prime numbers, and the relationship between mathematics and the real world. The dialogue focuses on elucidating the nature of mathematics.

4. A Socratic Dialogue on
Mathematics,ALFRÉD RÉNYI(some
parts)
SOCRATES : Are you looking for somebody, my dear Hippocrates?
HIPPOCRATES: No, Socrates, because I have already found him,
namely you. I have been looking for you everywhere. Somebody told
me at the agora that he saw you walking here along the River Ilissos; so
I came after you.
SOCRATES: Well then, tell me why you came, and then I want to ask
you something about our discussion with Protagoras. Do you still
remember it?
HIPPOCRATES: How can you ask? Since that time not a single day has
passed without my thinking about it. I came today to ask your advice
because that discussion was on my mind.
SOCRATES: It seems, my dear Hippocrates, that you want to talk to
me about the very question I wish to discuss with you; thus the two
subjects are one and the same. It seems that the mathematicians are
mistaken in saying that two is never equal to one.
5. There is a conversation between Hippocrates and
Socrtes on Mathematics.
6. In this article , hippocrates requests socrates to help him to study
mathematics.
Socrates ask different question related to mathematical facts to
clear the concepts of Hippocrates likethis:
(a)What is Mathematics is?
(b) What is the object of Mathematics?
(c) What is the differences between rock and reflection?
(d)What things does a mathematician study?
• Discuss about astronomy,motions of stars,prime
number,Mathematical objects,living ceatures e.t.c.
• Written in classical style.
• Focus on existing and non-existing things.
• Focus on nature of Mathematics and its relation to the real
word.
• Discuss about the maps of real world.
• Focus on study of numbers and geometric forms.
• Focus on prime numbers and real numbers.
7. Conclusion
I think this article is very valuable for dialogue on Mathematics
between socrtes and Hippocrates. In this article, there is
discussion between them about prime number
,astronomy, motion of star e.t.c.The key part of this article is
nature of mathematics and their relation to real world. There is a
most important examples that mathematical maps of real
world. There is most beutifully presented existing and non-
existing numbers ,mathematical things. There is used number
of sheep to clear the concept of prime numbers. There is also
given a lot examples to clearify the concept of mathematics.
Overall,I conclude that this article is great article to clear the
concept of dialogical nature of mathematics by great
personalities socrates and hippocreates. So, I highly
recommended all mathematician,mathematics
educators.mathematics learners and also who loves
mathematics to read this dialogue and get amaging facts
knowledge about Mathematics.
