The human behaviour is affected by many aspects in modern societies
where media is one of them. Media plays a widespread role in an
individual’s daily life. India has a huge population of youth and they are
also targeted by many industries for advertisements. Presently young
generation is spending their large quantum of times with computers, smart
phones with apps, iPods, television, movies, video games, etc. Media have
both positive as well as negative effects on the people. So, with the help of
this study researchers can find out whether media has been more on
positive side or negative side. For this study researchers have taken youth
of Jaipur city as sample. Thus, the present study aims to find how media
influences youngsters and how it affects their positive impact and negative
impact on youngsters in Jaipur.

sources of hackers. The social media websites are www.linkedin.com,
www.facebook.com, www.twitter.com and www.orkut.com etc. are
continuously distracting students from their studies. The main focus of
students should be education but unfortunately today’s students are
emphasizing on such sites by which they are wasting their time. It has
become an addiction for college students, teenagers and adults also.
According to The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), social
media is “the relationships that exist between networks of people”.
164.81 million of energetic Indian teens and Students now use social
media websites
Jaipur, the bustling modern city is one of the three corners of golden
triangle that includes Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. As of 2011, Jaipur had a
population of 30, 73,350. According to census of 2011 Hindu population
accounts for 77.9%, Muslims 18.6%, Jains 2.4% and others 1.0%. While
47.49% people lived in rural areas and 52.51% lived in urban areas. The
overall literacy rate for the district was 76.44% where 87.27% are males
and 64.63% females were literate. In addition to its role as provincial
capital, education and administrative centre the economy of Jaipur is
fuelled by tourism, gemstone, jewellery, textiles and information
technology. In case of media: major daily newspapers include Rajasthan
Patrika, Samachar Jagat, Dainik Bhaskar etc. The state owned All India
Radio is broadcast both on medium wave and FM. The public broadcaster
Doordarshan provides a regional channel in addition to the private
broadcasters. Population of Jaipur includes a huge mass of youngsters
who are either born and brought up here or come for education or job
purpose who are accompanied with various gadgets of media. Media isn’t
inherently positive or negative; however, youngsters should have a
healthy balance between exposure to media and other, intellectually and
physically stimulating activities.
Using various media sources, youngster’s attitudes and habits can be
altered. For example majority of people have mistaken or wrong notions

about various diseases like leprosy or HIV/AIDS. People think that by
touching people suffering from these diseases we would be infected. You
might have heard on radio or watch television programs or read
messages which explains us that by touching an HIV/AIDS patient others
do not get infected. Similarly, for eradicating polio there are special
programs and messages disseminated through the media. They inform
people about the need for giving polio drops to children and about the
day that is declared a ‘polio day’. Significant arrangements are made to
give polio drops to as many children as possible on polio day. Change
would also mean things for the better. Mass media play an important role
in communicating this change. By giving the necessary information, and
sometimes skills, the media can help bring about this change.
Movies and television programs regularly show characters using drugs
and alcohol and engaging in aggressive behaviours. At a growing stage
when youngsters seek greater freedom and independence, the adoration
of drugs, alcohol, risky sexual and violent behaviours in the media make
it challenging for youngsters to make responsible behavioural choices.
Still, media cannot solely be blamed for youngster’s consumption of
drugs and alcohol, or association in sexual activities. Youths can learn to
improve social interactions with their peers through participation in
social media. Social media also allows youths to cultivate new
friendships, which brings them access to wider networks and provides
even greater learning and social opportunities. Other benefits for youths
engaged in social media include improved social confidence, additional
social support and sharp media literacy. Social media diversifies
youngster’s social skills, which will aid them navigate through a
technologically astute society. The media affects everyone, depends what
type the youth look at. Media has affected their thinking patterns and
their opinions towards various topic and subjects as well as opened new
avenues and a whole overabundance of subjects that were previously not
even given a mention. One of the most important things that media does
for youth is keeps them informed and engaged as well as encourages

them to move in the right direction. As per the law and jurisdiction for
social media networking regrettably, there is not any law for social
networks in India, as it is international law that user must be minimum
18 years older more to register himself in any social media website.
There is no authority to check the user details if user is below 18 year
age or above 18 year age. Even after an established authority of TRAI,
there is no proper controlling on social media.
Literature Review
Review of earlier literature is significant part of research process. It
works to provide a background to the study being planned. It describes,
compares, contrasts and evaluates the major theories, arguments,
themes, methodologies, and approaches in the scholarly literature on a
research subject. Review of literature also collectively compares and
contrasts these opinions, themes and methodologies etc., with the
concerns of a proposed piece of research. It makes the researcher
enables to identify what has not been said in the literature on a subject.
Following are the few literature reviewed for this research:
Singh and Siddiqui (2016) in their study concludes that social media has
become the habit for many person; peoples are seen enthusiastic with
these technology every day. Social media has enlarged the quality and
rate of alliance for students. Youngsters have been seen in contact with
these media daily but it also has some demerits which affect people
negatively. Fake information can direct the education system towards the
failure, in an organisation wrong advertisement will affect the
productivity, social media can abuse the society by invading on people’s
privacy, some useless blogs can influence youth that can become violent
and can take some inappropriate actions, are some examples of demerits
and harmful effects of social media. Goyal (2016) in his study explained
the issues related to restaurants and social media. This study had given a
clear indication that social media though not much popular in people of
Jaipur for restaurant selection is now a strong driving force. Online
visibility through social media marketing is gradually becoming a secret

weapon of restaurant owners in having a strong customer base.
Consumer buying behaviour is changing very speedily and marketers
have to change their strategies according to the scenario. Bhargava and
Rani (2015) states that growth of social media sites shows a major
change in Indian Students and teenagers behaviour in their life. The
social media websites has become a significant part of life today and it
had a very bad effect on education. No any third party is there who could
verify for what actions are been performed by which user, so it is strongly
recommended to check teenager’s activities on social media websites.
Above studies shows that number of researchers conducted the studies
on some related issues of social media but nobody has adopted the
similar issues in context to Jaipur city.
